Back 40 Texas BBQ Restaurant & Catering

First time experience was awesome. The food is great, especially those beef ribs, must try, i recommend. Overall clean place and customer service was great.

We came here for an early 4 pm Father’s Day dinner because it’s a favorite of my parents. Unfortunately, this visit missed the mark. Several items were forgotten or incorrect — missing drinks, sides, dressing, and my sandwich came without the gravy it was supposed to have on it according to the menu description. We had to flag down servers multiple times to fix missing items and refills were slow to come. When the bill arrived we looked it over and as it was being signed the owner came over asking us to leave for waiting customers. When we explained we’d spent a lot of time waiting for our food and missing items. She didn't seem to care she just cared about us leaving. We told her we just received the bill she said the server told her otherwise, which felt dismissive. My Dad just starred at her in shock since she was literally standing in front of the bill being signed complaining that we have had it for a while. We waited longer for missing items we ordered then they waited for the bill to be signed. The food was OK. Mac and cheese seemed soggy. Ribs looked good. My husband enjoyed them. They give large portions. Has the BBQ smell at the restaurant and after I got home I still smelled like the restaurant. Also worth noting — one of the emergency exits was blocked by a table and when customers are sitting at the table it was even more blocked. Usually against the law at other businesses. There were so many other customers waiting I don't know how they even helped them all. The restaurant isn't that large. The parking lot can't handle that many people either.

My family and I went to the Back 40 for the first time today and it was a great experience! The service was prompt and friendly. The food was outstanding! I don’t like brisket. I have tried it several times in my life. My husband ordered it and gave me a bit to try. Y’all, I would order it. It was that good! My BBQ chicken salad was delicious as well. Oh, and the banana bread was warm and tasty! Our little one chowed down on her sliders and mac n cheese. We will be back for sure!

Not bad. Sunday noon time lunch. So, it's not as busy as a Saturday night. Wait time was normal. Waitress new her stuff. Unfortunately, there are no scallop potatoes like their other restaurant. Bit smaller but sat down ate and had a good time with a company of 3. Restrooms clean, prices as expected. Had to have the pork ribs 😋 tender and pulls right off the bone. Spouse had county fried steak able to cut with fork so tender also. Kids meal, I guess, was good, no leftovers. Not 2 bad.

The food was absolutely outstanding — perfectly smoked meats that were tender, flavorful, and cooked to perfection. The brisket melted in our mouths, the ribs had just the right amount of smokiness and fall-off-the-bone goodness, and the sides were the perfect complement to the meal. You can taste the pride and passion in every bite. What made our visit truly unforgettable was our amazing server, Kevin. He went above and beyond to make sure we had everything we needed. Friendly, attentive, and genuinely passionate about making our experience great, Kevin’s service turned a fantastic meal into a memorable one. He offered excellent recommendations, kept our table well taken care of, and made us feel like valued guests from start to finish. Oh, and the drinks were amazing!! Back 40 Texas BBQ doesn’t just serve great food — it serves a full experience, and with staff like Kevin, it’s easy to see why this spot stands out. We’ll absolutely be back, and we highly recommend it to anyone craving authentic BBQ paired with outstanding service!

Ordered the juicy brisket flavor was ok, and way over priced for amount of food received not much for little over 40 bucks.

Went here with my son for his first Texas BBQ experience. Atmosphere and service were amazing. Food was phenomenal. We ordered brisket and pork ribs which were cooked to perfection. Tater tots with garlic were very fresh and had perfect amount of crunchiness. Meat was perfectly prepared, full of flavor and softness.

Great food and nice vibe. We ordered the bbq pork ribs, juicy brisket, garlic mashed potatoes, fried okra, BBQ chicken with mac-n-cheese, and the mini sliders. All the food was really good. The kids just loved the brisket. They said it was melting in their mouth. The garlic makes potatoes are very good as well. The only negative I withhold say was that the corn bread. I would opt for a different option next time.

We recently had our daughter's wedding catered by Back 40 Texas BBQ, and from our very first visit to the restaurant all the way through the reception, their team was nothing short of wonderful. They were thoughtful, attentive, and somehow managed to meet every need, want, and "just one more little request" with a smile. The food was absolutely delicious -- we're still hearing rave reviews from our guests (some may have gone back for seconds). The staff was professional, kind, and made the entire experience smooth and enjoyable. We couldn't have asked for a better team to help make our daughter's special day so memorable.

Been going here for many...many years. Just okay, doesn't seem to be the same. Not sure if it's due to the new menu change or the value is not all there with the new price increases. I get it in this environment; however seemed high. Maybe need to add specials of the day. Maybe bring back the variety bread basket.

Haven't been here in a long time but man was I missing out. Francis was our waiter and 10/5 for service she's amazing dedicated and has great recommendations. The brisket was soooo juicy and soft the meat plate was also great with tri tip hot link and pulled pork. Everything tasted great The ambiance was great and calming everyone was friendly

Back Forty Texas BBQ has been one of my absolute favorite BBQ spots in all of California for the past 15 years. My family and I have been loyal customers for over a decade, and we keep coming back because it's just that good. Ever since the Orlov family took over a couple years ago, the restaurant has taken things to an entirely new level. The quality of the food, the attention to detail, and the customer service have all significantly improved. You can really feel the pride and care they put into running this place. The beef brisket is simply incredible...tender, flavorful, and cooked to perfection. Honestly, all of their dishes hit the mark. While takeout is great, I always recommend dining in. The atmosphere of the restaurant, combined with the warm service, makes for a full experience you just can't get from a to-go bag. If you're craving real BBQ, Back Fortu is a must..

We came here for an early Father's Day dinner at 4 PM, at a place my parents enjoy and had picked for the occasion. They've always had good experiences here, which made our visit a little disappointing in comparison. To start, the restaurant was already getting busy when we arrived, and it took quite a while for us to be greeted and have our drink orders taken. One of our drinks was forgotten (my niece's water), and it took multiple reminders to get it brought over. Her Caesar salad also arrived without dressing. A different server passing by (from a distance) noticed and kindly helped, which we appreciated. There were several mix-ups with our food. My sister ordered tater tots but received mac and cheese, and I was served a chicken fried steak sandwich that came with no gravy, which the menu clearly listed as included. By the time some of the missing items were brought out (like the tater tots), the meal was mostly over. We didn't feel like the servers were working together, and we had to flag someone down every time we needed anything, including basic refills. When the bill finally arrived, the owner came by and mentioned they needed the table for other customers. Unfortunately, the timing felt off -- the bill had just arrived and was being signed as she said this. When we explained we'd been waiting much of the meal for missing items she did not care or seem to care. When we told her the bill was literally just dropped off she said she had been told otherwise by the server, which made us feel unheard and slightly accused of lying. Not the best note to end on. My Dad just starred at her in shock since she was standing right in front of the bill being signed. No thank you for coming, how was your meal or see you next time. Jut basically get out. They had way to many customers waiting for them to even handle. Not that big of a restaurant. They have seating in two small rooms on each side of the restaurant. The front door and hostess area is in the middle of the restaurant. Their parking lot is so small. You have an entrance and an exit only. We were blocked when trying to leave. By people waiting in cars in non parking spots. We had to leave through the entrance. Another safety concern: one of the emergency exits was completely blocked by a table and customers -- a big red flag for such a busy restaurant. We totally understand places get busy and things happen, but the overall experience just didn't feel very organized or customer-focused this time. My parents have had great meals here before, so I hope this was just an off day -- but there are definitely some things that need attention.

I like the atmosphere in this place. Always wanted to try this business. Came here with my wife for dinner. The host and ser er were friendly and helpful. The request for water brought us 2 large mason jars of ice water and a wedge of lemon in each. Nice touch, no need to ask for refills. My wife got the brisket nachos. Plentiful portion, it would be better if the BBQ sauce was on the side as there seemed to be a bit too much of it already on the food. I ordered a full slab of beef ribs, with the thought I would bring some home. They were tasty, and were tender in the middle but too dry and crisp on the outer portion of all of them. (See photo) I included a caesar salad and Mac and cheese as sides. Salad gets 5 stars. Fresh and crispy greens, dressing on the side. Mac and cheese was okay but the macaroni texture was a bit soft for my taste. Wife ordered a house margarita and I had a MaiTai. Margaritas came first. It was way too sour to drink and we sent it back. My drink came 5-7 minutes later. It was okay. Wife did not reorder a drink and they took hers off the bill. Overall not a horrible experience, but I probably will not be back. Really my best advice as a grill master and frequent rib cookoff participant, do not let the ribs dry out!

We are regulars here, now. Galinda and Tim have re-mastered the place to include outstanding staff (Kevin should give classes at the local junior college), a great atmosphere , and 14-hour smoked brisket and ribs that melt in your mouth! We have brought friends, family, and business associates and plan to use their amazingly flexible catering skills (parties from 30 to 300) at our next gathering. Most recently, we went and got burgers, just cause we were in the mood. Hands down , the BEST burger around. Truly "cooked to order" (medium rare WAS medium rare) with big slices of tomato and onion and fresh leafy lettuce on a bun that was toasted and actually held together throughout the entire drippy, yummy, juicy burger-eating process. I had yummy Mac & Cheese and my BF had Texas Steak Fries that were really good (I hijacked one or two). This is now our go-too burger place as well as our barbecue must-have joint.

For most people, I'd say Back Forty should earn 5 stars. I'm neurodivergent, have a trait, HSP. I process scents and tastes (and sounds and lights) more deeply than most. And I greatly dislike any smoked food. I skipped tri tip because they smoke it. I opted for prime rib. Turns out, it's smoked, too. Or, it has a strong flavor of it. It bothers me a lot. So for that, I'm probably not going to return. However, the building is super fun to enter, inside I like it is nicely lit and decorated. Frances, she was great. The young man answering the phone doesn't have a clue about the menu. When I arrived, there were way too many staff and I'm wondering if any besides the lead really know the menu (weights and how cooked). Not same standards I was raised with and I'm not that old! My recommendation to the company is to place the weights of meat portions on the menu. And mark how it's prepared (smoked, smoke flavoring added, grilled) and cook temperatures available (rare, medium, medium rare, etc) because your employees don't have a clue. The price for my 8 oz prime rib, 2 sides, and bread was quite fair, $23 or so. Bummed that reviews say cornbread isn't good. Frances hinted it's not great, so I said surprise me (I didn't want white bread). The banana bread (no nuts) was delicious but my cornbread craving can never be satiated enough. lol! I loved the fried okra.

Back Forty Texas BBQ did not disappoint! We tried the pulled pork, hot links, salad, potato spuds, and jalapeño poppers--everything was absolutely delicious. The meat was tender, flavorful, and had just the right amount of smoky goodness. The jalapeño poppers were a standout, packed with flavor and just the right kick. The only thing we didn't love was the okra, but with everything else being so fantastic, it didn't even matter. Great service, great food, and a great experience. We'll definitely be back! We had Frances for a server and she was really sweet and kind and nice and the whole inside and outside just looks great

The ribs and the chicken just fall off the bone. Sooo good!! Can't wait to check them out in person.

The food is amazing! Hard to find good barbeque in the area. The server was very attentive and the whole staff was welcoming. Eating here is like getting a warm hug!

Looking for local BBQ I found this spot and decided to give a try. The ribs and brisket were amazing! My server Jared was helpful recommending what to order and even paired some wine with the meats for us to try. Ask for him if you come in!

Back Forty doesn't play around. You walk in and the smell grabs you by the collar--wood smoke, meat, something sweet and tangy lingering in the air. It's not subtle. It's also not optional. You're eating BBQ now. We got the tri-tip sandwich because obviously. Tender, juicy, kissed with just the right amount of char. The roll held it together like a champ until it didn't, which is when things got spiritual. Saucy fingers. Zero regrets. Chef's kiss doesn't even cover it. Also grabbed the pulled pork potato skins, which are somewhere between appetizer and full-blown life choice. Crispy, cheesy, porky little boats of happiness. Hot enough to hurt your mouth if you're impatient--and I was--but worth it. Now. The garlic mashed potatoes. I don't even know what to say. Those puppies were silky, savory, buttery perfection. Garlic present, but not aggressive. If I had a tub of this at home, I'd skip dinner and just eat it standing at the counter like a goblin. So good. We come here often. This place has its priorities straight.

I arrived around 3pm. So keep that in mind. I will say, coming in, everything smelled wonderful. The woman at the front desk was really nice. Answered all the questions I had. I offered the trinity, because I just couldn't make up my mind. I got the garlic mashed potatoes and the Mac n cheese. And a cornbread roll at the recommendation of the woman in the front. I took this to go, as I was in the middle of a class. The food came out within 5 minutes. I was only about a 3 minute drive away, so it's not like I drove for 45 minutes before eating this. The Mac n cheese was soggy. Like, the noodles were overcooked. It was pretty meh. The mashed potatoes were just okay. The chicken was dry. I actually gave it to the dogs. The brisket was really dry. The ribs were fall off the bone delicious though. Again. I came at 3pm. So maybe it was an odd time to come. Everything is old from lunch or something? I would come back for the ribs. Maybe I would try the brisket again but come at a more normal eating time.

food especially the steak salad and barbecue are excellent. Try it - You'll like it!

Lately I've been seeing a lot of commercials for Burger King's brisket whopper. Sounded good to me and it looks so good in the pictures. Looks good but you know it's Burger King. Is it really that good? Not feeling like cooking tonight I called a to go order to the Backfourty Texas barbecue. I called and ordered a brisket sandwich. I was greeted on the phone by Wesley. Very friendly and helpful with my order on the telephone. When I got to the restaurant and went inside, he looked at me with a big smile and asked if he could help me. I said I came to pick up an order and he asked if it was for a sandwich and I said yes and he says I'm the one who took your order. I had to wait a moment while the people ahead of me were paying for their meal and then a woman had to change the paper in the cash register. She was very sweet and we got into a couple minute conversation while she worked. She was extremely friendly and made the wait fun. When she was done, Wesley came back to check me out. While he was running my card also very sweet and I enjoyed the couple minutes. I had talking with him. He's new to the restaurant and I can already tell he's going to be a great addition to their already wonderful staff. I come here every few months And everything I've ever had here is really good, but I usually go for the juicy brisket. My boyfriend and his brother love the ribs. They always get a half rack of ribs and sometimes a whole rack just so they can have leftovers. If you've been here before you know how great it is and if you haven't been, and you're reading this to see if it's someplace you would like. I say go for it. You won't be disappointed.

Been there 4 times now and every time it was delicious. Found my new BBQ spot, the brisket is my favorite but the ribs and chicken are also killer. They actually smoke all their meats, it just falls off the bones. So far it's been five star service every time!

Tremendous catering and in house food. Catered 200 person outdoor event this month. Galina and crew were timely and everyone was served in 45 minutes. Highly recommend. The Club at Westpark Bocce Club. The Best ever BBQ. 5 star rating.

The food was exactly how I expected it to be from the looks of the restaurant. A back country bbq.

Food was delicious, the pork ribs were so tender and juicy. The tri tip is amazing and the food is piping hot when it arrived. If you want a good bbq give them a try. Family owned resturant and their are very nice. Thanks again

Food; We ordered a ribeye steak with garlic mashed potatoes and salad. We also ordered a salmon (very dry lacking taste saturated in BQ sauce) with the same the same sides. Plus two drinks. The total bill $118.00 tip included. The bill didn't fit the quality of food served. The reviews from previous visitors rang truth that the meat(s are dry and over cooked. Service; The waiter and staff were nice and welcoming. Ambiance; The restaurant was clean inside and out lots of seating. I do not recommend this restaurant because it's too over priced for what you receive in food and service.

The Server Kevin was so amazing he was so nice and the food was so so good Best ribs in the world nowhere else has juicier ribs the back 40 Texas BBQ everywhere else ribs are always to dry but never at back 40 there always so juicy and the server Kevin is so nice

Don't waste your money. Small portions, no flavor, overcooked tri-tip as if it was oven cooked no smoke ring, grey in color. Grilled chicken sandwich tastes like it was from frozen and grilled on a Forman and not seasoned. Baked potato was way overcooked as was the pasta for the flavorless mac&cheese. Looks good and very clean inside. Server was very nice and helpful. The host that seated us could use some training on how to address the patrons when they enter. I will not recommend and I will not return.

Where to start?! The food, ambiance, and staff were amazing! We were greeted and seated promptly. We were treated like old friends even though it was our first time. The food came out perfectly timed. And ask the staff thanked us for coming when we left.

We ate there this past weekend. While the service was good the food was not. The prime rib was over cooked, dry and not tender. The baked potato came out with a pool of butter on top. This should of been on the side. The potato tasted like it was cooked the day before or even two days. The cornbread was grainy like it wasn't mixed properly before baking. We literally could not finish our meals or even come close to it. The menu had changed and the prices were raised considerably. We've always had good food before here but won't be going back. New owners perhaps?

The moment me and my companions walked in we were unnerved by the greeting we got from a server named Jason. He kept looking us up and down and was staring at my son's feet. I thought it was because he was wearing sandals but I noticed other guests were as well. We talked about it at the table and some of us had the feeling he was going to ask us to leave. The whole interaction was uncomfortable and he just didn't bring certain items to the table and we asked for some but then just got tired of asking as he would set something down and swiftly walk away from the table. Plus the food was just ok. Needless to say we won't be back.

We've been going to Back Forty for years. My husband and I picked up two full babyback ribs, about two weeks ago. Usually they're perfect. But this time, they were fatty with too much sauce. Were they trying to hid the fat? We probably won't go back.

Great experience having Back Forty BBQ cater a small birthday party (18 people) for us. Galina did an excellent job handling all the details and keeping in constant communication. The delivery was right on time and the food was tremendous and abundant, bringing high praise by all the attendees. Thanks to Galina and crew for making our party a big success. We highly recommend Back Forty BBQ's catering service!

Chicken Fried Steak wasn't steak. It's clearly ground meat... possibly not even beef because it was pale white; I think it was ground chicken. Pretty gross. Extremely disappointing for a $30.00 entree, with other comparable BBQ restaurants in the area for the price.

Absolutely an amazing place. Great food and atmosphere. Staff is absolutely fantastic. Highly recommend.

Love the Beef Ribs and Bbq sauce!! Rest of the food is pretty good too. But my togo delivery order was a problem - left out one item, and delivery person set food at front door without advising it had been delivered (no call, text, email, or knock or doorbell). BackForty made it right by giving me a partial refund. Still gave them a five star because I loved the SMOKED BEEF RIBS.

We loved our evening here. Our waiter, Kevin was friendly and entertaining. All the staff were nice. Good was great. I had their award winning pork ribs with ocra and garlic mashed potatoes- delicious, all of it! My partner had the Texas Trinity: a LOT of delicious food. Then we had banana pudding, a little boring but good.

Delicious food and great service! I was there for an event and they made the whole experience delightful and delicious. I definitely recommend them and will be back!

Met some family up in NorCal and decided to meet at this place. Customer service was stellar, restaurant was nice, clean and friendly vibe. Food was good, nothing special to write home about but good. Generous portions, decent price.

Dang I ate my food to quickly to get all the food pictures lol..We all ordered either beer or tea it was a party of four .We starter of with some fried foods yummy..Next we ordered three steaks and a pulled pork sandwich..all very good the food was delivered quickly and we ate everything down to the last lock of sauce..If you want to try a cool place with some delicious meats give them a shot.. Service was superb..and restaurant was very well organized..

While the service was good, the food was awful. We started with an appetizer - pulled pork potato skins. These were decent. We could have made a meal those. I had the brisket so it would be juicy - even ordered a fatty cut. It was not. It was dry and tasteless. I also ordered. corn on the cob and mashed potatoes. My corn was starchy missing butter and tasted old. My husband had the whiskey grilled salmon. Everything tasted old and dry. Even the corn bread slathered with honey butter was stale and dry. My husband asked if they had pure honey. They brought a plastic bottle (you know the one in the shape of a bear) it was full of crystals and disgusting. I do not recommend this restaurant.

Wonderful feast for 4 person and had left over for another 4 person. We ordered to pick up 'Posse Package " $113 total and had a great meal . Will be coming back for sure and it's nice to see they are efficient in making the orders over the phone . Beef /Pork ribs , full chicken , beans ,potatoe salad, Coleslaw , & corn bread . Soo soo good !!! I compare it with lots of other bar b q restaurants and hands down the best quality and price point.

The turkey dip with fries keep us coming back here. So good/. Restaurant has been remodeled. . Maybe under new ownership? A must try been around for years

Yah Back Forty is back !! Are sweet neighborhood barbecue place! The New owners are so friendly and hospitable!! The place looks great! The atmosphere feels so good! French dip brisket sandwich! And angus Burger were just what we needed. Draft beer and class of wine! Beautiful Birthday opera songs! Thru out the restaurant was Awsome! And a great addition, Great experience for a good Price!

Tasty. Rustic, Western feel. The outside decor makes you feel like you're walking through the gold rush days Once inside it's like a modern saloon or something playing great country music. The smell of smoked meat priming your taste buds from the parking lot, it's hard to decide between brisket, ribs, steaks, burgers and other things. I went with the Texas dip and wife had the pulled pork sandwich. I can't decide which was better. Both were delicious This was my first time here. I've been missing out.

Such a great experience! The food was delicious! At our server's recommendation, I got the pulled pork sandwich with the crispiest tater tots I've ever had in my life. My husband loved his Tri Tip Sandwich with the potato salad side. We were full but couldn't resist splitting the peach cobbler for dessert. Our server was absolutely amazing and the food got to us really fast. Everything was amazing and it's such a cool vibe there. We will definitely be back!

Just went here for my mom's birthday. Food was amazing and well priced. Our servicer Kevin was absolutely hilarious and amazing at his job! The place was a a little dark but not too dark and was quiet enough to have a conversation without raising our voices. 10/10 will be coming back

I lived in Texas for 7 years. This place dares to call itself a "Texas BBQ." I have been there twice just to make sure I didn't catch them on a bad day. Nope. Both times lousy. In fact their meat is so terrible, I am suspicious that they do not even use a smoker. Save your time and money and pass on this dump.

Great service and scrumptious food. We were a party of three. I ordered the sirloin steak, garlic mashed potatoes, and corn on the cob. Everything was cooked perfectly. Perfect medium rare steak and the steak sauce was very tasty. The cornbread was Amaaaazing! I haven't had good cornbread from a restaurant in so long. I also tried some of the fried okra which was really delicious. Judy, our server, was so sweet, friendly and very attentive. We all look forward to visiting again. Keep up the great work!

We had a party of 4 and had the best server; her name is Stephanie. Stephanie took good care of us. The menu had changed since the last time we were there and we were confused about what to order. Stephanie walked us through and showed us how we could order what we wanted. She also gave us good advise on the delicious desserts. Overall, our experience was great; the food was excellent. Ribs, and brisket were my favs; tender, lean, and falling off the bone. Great Service received a great tip. ADVICE: Don't forget to over tip your servers. Tips make up a good portion of their earnings.

I have been super excited to try this place out and the 4th of July was a good day today. I instantly felt transported to Texas as I entered the roomy Cowboy style restaurant. The magic ended there. I ordered a petite brisket plate ($20.99) and my hubby ordered a petite tri tip ($20.99). They each came with dry cornbread and two sides. The baked beans are not sweet beans but more like ranch beans. We also had mac and cheese and coleslaw that weren't very good either. I realize that we ordered the petite plate but for $20.99 each, I felt like it should have been more substantial. They were very stingy on the meat (although the meat did taste good). DEFINITELY not worth the cost in the least. I don't think we will return.
