Delicious ! Good service nice atmosphere. Honestly the 4 stars is pretty unfair because the food was great , but it was not spicy at all and they didn’t ask about spice levels when they took our order. Great specials I was really blown away you deserve 5 stars but it was so good I just wanted it to be a little better 🌶️ next time I’ll ask about that when I order.

While vacationing in California we had dinner here and it was absolutely delicious! We loved it so much we went back for lunch another day and were not disappointed. The food is beautifully presented and the taste of everything we ordered was amazing. The atmosphere is soothing and the service very friendly! Don't let me forget the drinks which were also delicious, and this is coming from someone very hard to please when it comes to alcoholic drinks! I strongly recommend you give your taste buds a treat and visit Bangkok By The Bay!

Google
Amazing Thai food with tons of flavor, a great atmosphere, and super friendly service. A beautiful Thai lady with incredible cocktail knowledge recommended the perfect drinks to pair with our meal. Everything we tried was delicious and the vibe made it even better. Definitely a spot worth coming back to! Parking was easy to find, and there is an EV charging station near by.

Google
Yummy well crafted Thai food, we all cleaned our plates. The space was quiet and relaxed, perfect for conversation. Another big plus, they brought out a dog bed and water bowl for Cooper. He gives it 5 wags. A thoughtful, tasty experience all around!

Google
Such a wonderful hidden gem! This Thai place has excellent food, beautiful, mostly quiet atmosphere, and is always a joy to visit. What a refresher to go someplace with upscale dining that isn’t trying to also be a nightclub with overly loud music. I’d highly recommend this spot for any one who plans to talk to their company over good food.

Kobkhwan T.

Google
I highly recommend this place. I love the Pad Thai, Nam Kao Tod, and mango with sticky rice. The texture is authentic, just like when I ate it in Thailand.

Google
One of my favorite Thai restaurants in the east bay from the West Berkeley industrial brick building to the service, ambiance and delicious food. The roti is like dipping a doughnut in heavenly yellow curry. Just try it! Save room for the coconut ice cream - best I've ever had. There's a great space for large parties separated from the main dining room with beautiful heavy curtains. (The server offers me a charger for my dying phone!)

Google
Wow, Bangkok by the Bay is a true treasure in Berkeley! Every dish was bursting with vibrant flavors and spices that took my taste buds on a journey. The Pad Thai was perfectly balanced with a hint of sweetness, while the Green Curry was creamy, aromatic, and had just the right kick. The Turmeric Chicken was soo good! The staff was friendly and attentive, making us feel like valued guests. If you’re craving bold, delicious Thai flavors, Bangkok by the Bay is the spot—you won’t be disappointed!

Yelp
The food here is absolutely delicious in every way. It is plated so artistically and the presentation is so beautiful. We had heard a lot about this place and it definitely lives up to the glowing descriptions. We had several dishes and each one was something to marvel at. They tasted as good as they looked. My favorite was the roti appetizer with curry dip. I had never had it before but it was recommended to me and I can't say enough good things about it! It was light and flaky and yet crispy at the same time. The service was very good, friendly and efficient. I definitely would like to come back here!

Yelp
My wife and I were dropping off my sculpture at the nearby Artworks Foundry. So we needed lunch afterwards, and decided to walk here. Super glad we tried them! We both had the Bamee and shared the Basil duck rice. Looking forward to our next time! Extremely friendly and welcoming service! Bamee Ped Toom Duck confee Basil Duck Fried Rice

Yelp
Came for lunch on a weekday since I work close by. I got the pad see ew with shrimp, and my colleague got the pad thai. The food came out in about 5 minutes. I really enjoyed my dish, although it started getting a little too salty at the end. But we liked our meals. The only gripe I have is the prices for the dishes are a bit pricey than you would have at other places. There are plenty of parking spots on front of the restaurant, and on the curbside as well. I would come again.

Yelp
Bangkok by the Bay was an excellent experience with wonderful service, delicious Thai cuisine, and the atmosphere was warm and decorated nicely. The restaurant is hidden from any main street and in a building that's across from a preschool or elementary school. There was plenty of parking and we were the first customers there. We were meeting friends and I would recommend this place whether you want a nice conversation with friends or if it's date night. They have a happy hour and we ordered everything on the happy hour menu. I had a glass of their Sauvignon Blanc which was ordinary and everyone else had the aperol spritzer. Every dish we had was prepared well and plated nicely. I would definitely recommend this restaurant. They have a bar with big screen tv's, too.

Yelp
I have ordered from Bangkok by the bay to go and also have eaten in. The inside of the restaurant is beautiful and food is outstanding! I love Thai food but my husband isn't a lover like I am. He was blown away by our dishes. Everything tasted freshly made and flavorful. My favorites were the tom yum and the shrimp pad Thai but everything was delicious. We will definitely be back!

Yelp
I stumbled onto this tastefully designed resto while looking for a Thai resto while passing by Berkeley. I loved that is was in a quiet and private area, much like a welcome oasis for the senses for the tired and a bit hungry traveller. Music was tastefully not loud, and was classify subdued. Staff and owner were both welcoming. For the food: Som Tum - 4/5 Khao Soi Gai - 3/5

Yelp
This lovely place was nestled in west Berkeley - plenty of parking for dinner on a Monday night. We had a reservation via OpenTable - probably didn't need one. My friend and I got the chicken skewer appetizer, egg plant with tofu dish, pad see ew with chicken, and a bowl of brown rice. The presentation was great. Every dish was pretty. The highlight was the eggplant. It was a little spicy and that's why we ordered a bowl of rice. I am giving it 3 stars because I was drinking lots of water and had a migraine afterwards-typically due to having had something with MSG. The bill came out to $60, which was a little privy considering we finished almost every dish (except the rice).

Yelp
Delicious food and excellent service. We were greeted by warm and friendly staff upon check-in with reservations on a weekday. F o o d (5/5) * Pad See Ew with chicken - tasty with a right balance of salty and sweet. The wide noodles were cooked perfectly with the Chinese broccoli. It also came with a spicy, vinegary sauce for an added kick and dimension to the dish. Definitely would order again. S e r v i c e (5/5) Staff was attentive as our water glasses were never empty. We didn't feel rushed out as the lunch service picked up. A m b i a n c e (5/5) Industrial contemporary vibes. It is a lovely spot for lunch/ dinner with a charming patio for outside dining on a nice day/ night. Overall, a solid spot that brought me back to Thailand for a bit. I cannot wait to return and try the tapioca dumplings (Sakoo Hed) and the Short Rib Massaman Curry. **FYI, parking is limited to street parking so you may want to leave your large vehicles at home.
google avatar

Yelp
Very solid Thai food restaurant and food is good! I really loved the pad see ew and thought the gai yang and shiitake mushroom dumplings were ok. The location of the restaurant is in a nice part of Berkeley and felt safe with decent parking at the front.

Yelp
Just a superior level of cooking - the impressive execution on these dishes had me texting Berkeley friends during lunch about this new spot. The moo ping skewers had good chair and the marinade kept the pork tender, and the accompanying sauce ensured the balance of sweet and acidic in the classic Thai flavor profile. The nam khao tod here is one of the best versions I have ever had, and this is a dish that I order almost every time I see it on a menu. Rice was crispy and not clumped, with chili, herbs, fermented sausage and crunchy roasted peanuts. I do prefer to roll it in lettuce and herbs, so I brought most of it home to do so and dip in nuoc cham, but next time I could just ask for more lettuce there. The pad see ew features perfectly crisp Chinese broccoli and tender wide rice noodles coated in just the right amount of sauce that wasn't overly sweet, and it came with a bright acidic, spicy orange sauce on the side as a nice counterpoint. The chicken breast in the noodles was a bit on the dry side, but that was most likely due to my arriving at the end of the lunch rush and that I tend to prefer chicken thigh. Excited to have found this restaurant as it is rare to find a Thai place at this level! Service is great and the industrial, airy space is beautiful. There's also plenty of outdoor seating and accommodation for canine friends - I saw a dog bed at the host stand. So glad I over-ordered at lunch yesterday so that I can enjoy leftovers today, but will be back soon for more.

Yelp
Stopped by for impromptu lunchie since we were in the area. We were pleasantly greeted and seated. I had the Steak Namtok, hubby had the Sai Oua (sausage) lunch specials; sticky rice, fresh papaya salad, and a gorgeous mini green salad. The plates were exclusively plated and were delicious. Ambiance was excellent as soft music entertained our audio senses as we ate our lunch. We'll definitely be back, already have another foodie in tow. Service was on point. It was pleasant while we chatted softly as other clients were scattered about. Noticed an Uber driver stopped by for a takeout. Parking: we snagged a spot marked "800 Heinz parking".

Radclyffe C.

Yelp
The vegan mushroom tapioca dumpling appetizer was delicious and beautifully presented. The khao soi was fresh and tasty. Great ambiance with gentle tailored lighting and nice pillows for against-the-wall seating. The staff was attentive and came around the right amount. Would definitely come back and bring friends.

Yelp
This restaurant is absolutely fabulous. It seemed new with very nice interior and decorations. Food is presented in a very nice way too, which I appreciate. They have an outdoor area for people with dogs. They are baby friendly as well - high chair, baby utensils and plates, etc. friendly servers, great food, ample portions, no reasons not to go again. Fantastic!

Yelp
I've been to this location in west Berkeley before as it was previously another restaurant. Came here for a dinner with my colleagues after a workshop on site. They arranged a pre-fixed menu for us and it was several courses served family style. Everything was delicious and their dinning area is lovely. Also their bar is really beautiful.

Gary W.

Yelp
Bangkok By The Bay is elevated Thai cuisine. Every dish is eye-catching and flavorful. The dining room is relaxed and lends itself to good conversation. The service is welcoming and excellent. Truly a great experience!

Yelp
Dined here for Valentine's day dinner with a reservation. I was greeted warmly by the host and was impressed with the interior design and overall comfortable and intimate ambiance of the restaurant. The host was fine with my partner and I sitting at one of tables against a bench seat rather than another table she had initially picked out. I loved the floral centerpieces on the table which also included a glittery heart suitable for the occasion. There was a special Valentine's Day menu available, but opted for the Bamee Ped Toon on the regular dinner menu. I appreciate the menu indicating which dishes are spicy. I also ordered the Bang Na cocktail. The cocktail prices on the table menu holder are different than the full Drinks menu. I was disappointed to hear from the waiter that the lower price on the table signage would not be honored. It was a little strange to see the waiter donning a Bass Pro Shop hat and bright blue nitrile gloves reminding me of the hospital. However, service was prompt and he always kept our water cups filled. The food came out relatively quickly, was plated nicely, and tasted good. I used the bathroom here (gender-neutral single stall) which was clean and adequately stocked. They dropped off the bill at the table without checking to see if we wanted dessert, so we just paid for it and left. Overall, I had a good dining experience here and wouldn't mind coming back.

Yelp
The food was meh. Curries were bland, lacked the spice and pop of Thai curry. You can get the same tbing at Berkeley bowl. The roti was down right gross.. deep fired in oil, and eating is like sucking on said oil. The service was lackuster
google avatar

Dee H.

Yelp
First time trying and brought my whole group of friends. It was easy to make a reservation and I appreciate that they accommodated. The food was exceptional and tasty. The decor and ambiance was tasteful, clean and unique. Parking is easy on the street right in front. Seemed like a cute spot for a date or intimate place for friends to catch up. "Just okay" Service was okay. The price for food was a little on the higher side but I guess it justified the upscale ambiance. I was definitely expecting more for the price paid. Example: the image of the small chicken skewers were $4.50 per each skewer

Yelp
This restaurant is exceptionally good. Usually when ordering food to go, it's a big risk as at least part of the meal has fallen apart already int terms of structure or flavor. Bangkok by the Bay has figured this out and the food is delicious even when taken away. The restaurant itself is so charming and a wonderful place to go with friends or on a date. The service is excellent and the atmosphere is cozy and inviting. It's really hard to find good Thai food and this place has got it dialed. Get going.

Yelp
My husband and I live in San Bruno, the Saturday evening car traffic was extremely busy, we had to plan at least an hour and thank goodness we did because we arrived right on time! I Recently watched a restaurant influencer, Anthony Scott Nguyen, who reviewed Bangkok by the Bay through Facebook. When I saw the meat easily sliding off the bone and the positive praise he gave to their signature dish, I told my husband we must try it!You will need reservations if you want to dine out on Saturday evening. Very friendly and attentive staff. The ambiance is very industrial, modern and clean. I like how My husband and I were able to order both dishes to share, I highly recommend it!!! It's good!

Yelp
The food was amazing, the employees was amazing, excellent job and thank you for letting me spend my time here at Bangkok by the bay!

Yelp
I've been here twice now and what a find! It's conveniently located near Berk Bowl West and the Ashby exit off 580/80. Adorable brick building and attractive patio and interior. The menu is exciting, not your typical neighborhood Thai- a big step up in ingredients and execution. Thai basil and duck fried rice, soft shell crab, shiitake dumplings were all yummy starters. Roti and curry tasty but oily. The curries and noodle dishes we tried were all tasty and accompanying salads fresh and pretty. Can't wait to try all the other offerings!

Yelp
Great Thai restaurant located in Berkeley, somewhat hidden but not too hard to find. Was in the area looking for dinner and this place pops up, so haven't a try. Nice decor, with a clean modern look to it. Ordered mostly on the street bites portion of the menu for variety. Didn't wait long before the food came in and everything was delicious. Started with the Sakoo, which was very good. See pics for the other dishes ordered. Nice find I came across that night!

Yelp
INCREDIBLE and DELICIOUS food. Best curry I have ever had!! The crispy rice dish was AMAZING. The waiter we had was FANTASTIC and was focused on our every need. We sat outside which was very beautiful and the inside was very elegant too. HIGHLY recommend this restaurant. All the dishes were so beautiful too.

Yelp
What a lovely surprise! The food is fantastic and the owner is lovely. I will definitely be back.

Yelp
Delicious, welcoming, great service and varied menu for our gluten free friend! Atmosphere was warm and inviting, seats comfortable and noise level acceptable too.

Yelp
The place is beautifully designed and decorated. The energy is welcoming. The services is great and the food was fantastic. Everything was fresh and delicious . Best Thai restaurant in Berkeley

Yelp
Food, service and ambiance are all A+! You can't go wrong with anything on the menu. The roast duck with basil fried rice is fantastic. Ambiance is comfortable and their outside seating on a nice day is fantastic

Megan M.

Yelp
I ordered catering for roughly 40 people at my office from here. They were super helpful over email helping me identify which specific allergens were in each dish, and modifying accordingly (ex. Nuts on the side for pad Thai). The delivery was exactly on time and handoff went smoothly. They provided place cards that had the food item & allergens, as well as some serving utensils. As for the food, it was amazing!! Huge hit at the office, everyone was asking for the name and location. Highlights were the pad see ew and the green beans with tofu. Each tray photographed was a "large" on the catering menu. I highly recommend for both catering and just a meal out!

Nezar A.

Yelp
Excellent an innovative food , great preparation, nice plating in an unusual location.

Yelp
Fabulous food. Wonderful service. Very quiet, pleasant atmosphere. Parking was easy. Location near Berkeley Bowl West. This has become our favorite restaurant in Berkeley.

OLivre C.

Yelp
Great food and service, nice ambiance as well. Ordered the Moo Ping and Nuer Yang to start, both were great but the Moo Ping was especially good. All the skewers came out hot and were right off the stove. For the main I ordered the Gai Gapraw which was also great. The dish balanced a ton of flavors and spice to make the perfect bite(I did order the mild not spicy dish). Service was also great, never had to ask for water refills and was able to get seated instantly.

Sunil P.

Yelp
We went to Bangkok by the Bay several weeks ago for a private dinner. The meals were flavorful, with the right amount of spice. The vegetables were large and fresh. We enjoyed the food so much we were happy to take several of the to-go boxes the restaurant packed for our group. (And we enjoyed these meals at home just as much as we did at the restaurant). The restaurant itself is clean and has a quiet chill vibe to it. Although the desserts are modest (sticky rice, coconut gelato) we overall enjoyed ourselves so much we still think Bangkok by the Bay deserves 5 stars and plan to go back again.
google avatar

Farrah P.

Yelp
Really tasty lunch specials. I had the soft shell crab papaya salad which was so fresh as well as the kang sand and pad see ew. The Thai tea (not pictured) was great too.

Dale R.

Yelp
Another great meal with our friend who had never been. The food as usual was very good, large portions and promptly served. This time we had the special of lobster pad thai and it was as good as it looks. Try the coconut ice cream as well, smooth like gelato and again a huge portion that fed the three of us. We will be back.

Ilknur S.

Yelp
Absolutely great food! We're addicted to their appetizers, pad thai and pad see ew. Their soups are also great. Basically, whatever we try, we love!

Yelp
Really cute little spot that replaced Riva Cucina tucked away over on Heinz Ave. Elegant interior and friendly staff. I wouldn't describe the fare as groundbreaking, but there are some things on the menu that you don't see everywhere. I ordered the Namtok steak lunch special. It was $23 and it came with some nicely cooked flank steak salad along with sticky rice, a side of papaya salad and some regular salad on the side. I didn't really feel like the side salad was entirely necessary, but it was fresh and crisp and I did, in fact, eat it. The flavors were all bright and seasoning was on point. Although friendly, I did find the service to be a bit disjunct. It look a while for someone to take my order and it took a bit of time for my food to arrive. They also forgot my beer and I needed to ask for it a second time. None of this was a deal breaker by any stretch and I would have happy to return. I want to try their five spice duck noodle soup next time. Wish they had more curry options for lunch....the short rib massamun curry on the dinner menu sounds delicious!
google avatar

Jen S.

Yelp
Delicious that food with friendly service. Good GF and vegetarian friendly options. Go check it out!
google avatar

Toni M.

Yelp
Bangkok by the Bay is situated where Riva Cucina used to be. I read about it in Nosh and chose it for lunch w/ Lori and Terry when it was my turn to choose where we met. I called and made a reservation for November 22. That day was very stormy so we decided to reschedule. They were closed the following Friday, the day after Thanksgiving, so we decided to meet today. I called and made a reservation for 12:30. I hadn't been to Riva Cucina since before the pandemic and that block of Heinz looks very different, so different that I bypassed the restaurant and ended up having to turn around and come back. If I had paid attention to the address that would have solved the problem, but I didn't. I just expected to recognize it. There are a couple of disabled spaces on the street nearby and I took one and walked over. To my surprise, because I was 5 minutes late, I was the first one there. Terry arrived shortly after and then Lori a bit later. I had looked over the menu, which is extensive, varied and interesting. One thing I noticed is that they're cognizant and respectful of a variety of dietary preferences and restrictions, from gluten free to vegetarian and vegan. They also offer a variety of spice levels. I was tempted at first to try either their Pad Thai or Pad See Euw, then I saw their Laab Gai, which I love. It came as part of the Isaan Som Tum Sets, w/ sticky rice, papaya salad and crudités. I ordered it mildly spicy, maybe mild plus. I also ordered hot Thai tea. We agreed to share an order of mushroom dumplings to start. Otherwise I will let Lori and Terry tell you in their reviews what they ordered. The restaurant looks very different than it did when it was Riva Cucina, much lighter walls and ambiance, as I remember it. There are two restrooms all the way down the hall on the right, one marked Men, the other Women, although both hold single toilets, so I suppose you could use either if necessary. I used the women's and it was clean, well stocked and functional. There were a few other tables seated, parties of varying sizes, large and small. A party of 7 walked in and was readily accommodated. An even larger party was seated when I walked in. I believe the workers in the surrounding buildings patronize the restaurant and form their customer base, based on their being closed on w/es and the day after Thanksgiving. The dumplings came first, w/ a tasty dipping sauce and a salad and the lunch sets quickly followed. The dumplings were delicious, five to an order. Terry and I split one, giving us 1 1/2 and Lori 2. The papaya salad had some unexpected spice heat, but nothing I couldn't handle, and it was delicious. The same was true of the laab, which I know as larb. It was beautifully presented in a bowl of red cabbage leaves. You can see in the photo the beautiful presentation. When I finished my salad I put the sticky rice in the dressing that was left and it was excellent. It was a great lunch in excellent company. I will definitely return.

Yelp
Bangkok by the Bay is marvelous. The place is beautifully designed and decorated. The energy is welcoming. The services is great and the food was fantastic. Everything was fresh and delicious and I mean delicious. Best Thai place in Berkeley

Yelp
The roasted duck fried rice is excellent with only 22 dollars. It's very tasty and juicy. The atmosphere here is warm and pleasant. I would definitely visit this restaurant again if I have chance.
google avatar

Yelp
The food was incredibly fresh, delicious, and beautifully presented. The space had a warm, inviting atmosphere, and the service was both friendly and efficient. Every dish we tried was excellent, but the Som Tum salad stood out with its perfect balance of spice. We also shared the Pad Makeur and Pad Thai, both of which I highly recommend!
google avatar

Katy H.

Yelp
We had the best experience dining in. Every dish was delicious and flavorful. The menu is unique compared to other Thai restaurants and the restaurant vibes were great. We got two appetizers (the curry puff and the corn), and two entries (the pad kee mao and the gai gapraw). Every dish was delicious and beautifully presented. To top it off; the service was quick and friendly!

joanna l.

Yelp
Food was good. The sai oua (sausage) was very flavorful. The papaya salad that came with it was spicy. I'd say the spice level was medium spicy. It made my nose run a lot but I did manage to eat it. I'm bad with spicy food. The raw veggies were just eh. Fancy looking but it's just raw veggies. The gai ga prow was good. They were able to make it mild. The onions that were cooked with the chicken were half cooked raw-ish. I'm not a fan of raw onions so I put those to the side. The fried egg was really good and cooked to perfection. I do recommend this place, the food was delicious and the portion sizes decent. I'd come here more often but at $18 a dish, I can't afford it. Also, street parking here during weekday lunch is non existent. All the workers in the area take it in the morning.
google avatar

Joseph M.

Yelp
The Drunken noodles had the best deep wok taste of any we remember eating before. They were delicious The Gai Ga Prow was really very good And we loved the crispy rolls and the sweet chili dip that came with them Service was attentive And the space is very nice with a good outside veranda We have been twice already in last week since it opened.
google avatar

Yelp
Food is tremendous and the atmosphere is very inviting. Our party of eight very much enjoyed the dining experience.

Yelp
Tucked away in lovely ambient space amongst the Berkeley Aquatic research area, there is nothing hidden about the FLAVOR in the food! The kind hospitality & friendliness of the establishment's team is warm & welcoming. We started with just a taste of happy hour & we're immediately drawn to the dinner menu. Disappointment will not be an option here when you depart & will leave you wanting more! We will be back. Monday is also a great evening to enjoy this establishment with less of a crowd. Peaceful & delicious. Thank you!

Yelp
Had lunch there a few weeks ago and I could have eaten a whole platter of the papaya salad. Good spice balance, vinegary,crispy-crunchy. We also had had the curry puffs which were generously filled with a great filling. The pastry part was perfectly delicate melt in your mouth. We returned for opening night last night and it was great to see those pastries on the dinner menu. The surprise app was the sakoo hed which is a tapioca dumpling traditionally filled with shrimp. Instead these were filled with rich flavorful oyster mushrooms. I also had the gai ga prow chicken dish that was richly spiced and just hot enough to need a sip every few bites. My wife had pad makuer and shared an eggplant piece with me. Very tender, cooked perfectly, not mushy, kinda Al dente. We will be back. Free parking was easy on Heinz even in the middle of the day.

Yelp
Beautiful spot for dining, outdoors and in. Several visits in always great food, duck pad se ew was amazing! Vegetarian soups were great with fresh veggies and tofu.
