The Best Restaurants in Lafayette, Louisiana, aka Cajun Country | Eater New Orleans

"On the Saint Streets I like Park Bistro, opened by Peter Cooke in 2022, for its intimate, friendly vibe and unfussy seasonal plates — standout options include ahi crudo with Calabrian chili oil and an eggplant parm lasagna — plus interesting cocktails." - Beth D’Addono

Chef Peter Cooke’s Saint Streets spot leans New American with Southern Italian notes—ricotta gnocchi, risotto balls, seasonal veggies—served in a relaxed neighborhood room. Profiled by The Advocate, it’s an intimate counterpoint to Lafayette’s Cajun staples.

My family and I recently celebrated a special graduation dinner at Park Bistro, and it was an absolutely perfect choice. We secured a table on the porch, which provided a delightful, airy setting that made the event feel even more significant. The menu was beautiful, filled with inventive and healthy flavor combinations. From our experience, the potato gnocchi and roasted beets were standout dishes, just as others have recommended. On a subsequent date night, my partner and I were equally impressed. We started with the unique and delicious black-eyed pea hummus on toast. For our mains, the flatiron steak was cooked perfectly medium-rare and was arguably one of the best I’ve ever tasted. My partner couldn't stop raving about the flavor-packed eggplant parm lasagna. We ended our meal with the decadent pot de crème. The owner, Peter, even visited our table, and his passion was evident. He gifted us a jar of his homemade garlic chili crisp, which was a wonderful personal touch. Park Bistro has truly become our favorite hidden gem in Lafayette, a place we will return to for any future celebration.

We always love it here. The service is always amazing and the cocktails are wonderful. You could make a whole meal out if all the apps. I could eat like 10 of the tuna crudo apps. The desserts are always great too!

Beautiful menu & setting! The perfect place to have a celebration or just Sunday brunch. We had my daughter's graduation there & it was delightful eating on the porch. So many delicious plates & healthy flavor combinations. We had enjoyed my older daughter's graduation party there several years back when it was Saint Street Inn.

We celebrated our anniversary at Park Bistro last year and loved the food, though the seating at the bar was poorly planned — a large column was placed directly between my husband and me, which made for an awkward dining experience. Still, the food was good enough that I overlooked it and recommended the restaurant to others. Unfortunately, last night's visit completely changed my opinion. (1/9/26) I brought my family — myself, my husband, my mother-in-law, and our two young daughters — hoping to share what I thought was a great dining experience. • Flatiron Steak: fine and well prepared • Chicken Kyiv: unexpected presentation, but acceptable • Burger: served alone on a small plate with only a pickle. No side. That should be clearly communicated — a burger without a side is not a complete meal unless stated otherwise. • Service: Our waitress was kind, but the other tables were waited on maybe five times more than us. Disappointing. But, the children’s menu was the biggest issue. One child ordered “white pasta.” We were told it would be gnocchi (since they don’t carry pasta noodles), which was fine. She chose white sauce, assuming something similar to an Alfredo-style preparation. What arrived was a plate of pale, oversized gnocchi sitting in the watery pasta liquid with a light sprinkle of Parmesan. I tasted the liquid and it was indeed the pasta water. The flavor was bland, wet, and unappetizing. My daughter took one look and said "yeah, I'm not eating that" — and I don’t blame her. The dish went completely untouched. $11 wasted. My other child ordered chicken nuggets. Four nuggets arrived on a small plate with ketchup. No side. Again, $11. Children do not eat plain nuggets alone as a meal, and nothing about this felt thoughtful or balanced. If this is how the meal is to be served, servers should let the families know that additional sides from the regular menu need to be ordered for their children. I honestly don’t think the children’s pasta has been tasted by the kitchen, because if it had, it would never be served. Park Bistro seriously needs to rethink having or completely redo the children’s menu — or at the very least, taste what’s being sent out. That’s $22 in kids’ food that went entirely uneaten. I ended up sharing my burger between me and both my kids. Not ideal for how expensive this restaurant already is. We also ordered the fried ravioli as an appetizer-after being impressed by the black bean hummus bread. Unfortunately, one bite was all it took. It had an overpowering, artificial smoke flavor and was immediately unpleasant. Every adult, and even the children, at the table agreed — it was a hard no. Extremely fake smoke flavor added. Just don’t order it. The atmosphere is loud, and crowded. Last year when we visited, my husband and I didn't even talk through dinner because we couldn't hear each other. Fortunately for this visit we snagged a table outside, though they originally sat us at a table that had about 6 inches of uncovered roof, causing two of the seats to get rained on. Luckily there was one table, though smaller and not ideal, that was available for my family to sit at. I’m extremely disappointed. I previously recommended Park Bistro and spoke highly of it despite the seating issue from last year. Google reviews remain very high, but based on last nights experience, I won’t be returning — and I definitely won’t recommend this restaurant to families with children. Unless you plan on visiting McDonalds on the way home. Which is exactly what we did.

Was just recently in Lafayette on business and found this place on the web. Definitely need to make a reservation as it was booked our first night. The dishes we ordered were very good and especially the “corn ribs” appetizer. Very unique and good. Pork chops were ample and juicy. Only complaint was the chicken Kyiv was a little overcooked making it difficult to cut. Once the knife did go through butter squirted on my shirt and pants so be careful!! Mandy was a great server and will be back and try other dishes

I had a delicious meal here tonight. Service was friendly and attentive and the food was delicious. The crispy shrimp were a very good, spicy and crispy as described. The flat iron steak was perfect. Served with delicious crispy potato and fried kale. Will definitely go back to try other menu items. My second visit was just a nice as my first with the added bonus of having Clair wait on our table. She is also a manager of the restaurant. The restaurant owners definitely picked the right person with her, friendly, informative and a wonderful server. Great job Clair!

Google
Cute pocket restaurant, with a good array of menu options. Service was prompt and friendly! I got the salmon and it was delicious, the Kiev was an interesting dish! Finished off with the flourless cake 🎂 Loved all the displayed art on the walls. Outdoor dining was on a nice large porch! Upon arrival not many ppl there, but it quickly filled up and a lot of guests had reservations

Brunch at Park Street Bistro is absolutely amazing! The menu is so tempting that I wanted to order everything. The drinks were fantastic too! I can't wait to come back and try more from their menu. It's definitely a must-visit for brunch lovers! -Marisa Balletti-Lavoie

Yelp
Park Bistro is such a gem! It's located in an old cottage close to UL and provides a cozy setting for date night or a small group. The porch and patio are lovely in nice weather. The service is attentive and helpful. The cocktail program is creative and seasonal. The wine list is short but thoughtful. Park Bistro greater than the sum of its parts, by which I mean I often look at them menu and think "meh," but then I'm blown away by whatever I order. The quality and flawless execution of each dish really set this place apart. On a recent visit, we had the chips and dip which was caviar with dill and chive crème fraiche and house made potato chips. It was like the best sour cream and onion dip you've ever tasted, elevated with caviar. Our entrees were chicken Kiev and lasagna, and both were perfect. No room for dessert but we need to try for it next time!

Yelp
Great food at Park Bistro! I stopped in while traveling for work, and can't remember what burger I had, but it was recommended by the bartender and very delicious. At the time that I stopped in, they had just decorated for the restaurant for Halloween which gave some spooky fun vibes. I hope that I can return for another good meal next time I am in Lafayette!

Yelp
My wife and I were very excited to try Park Bistro due to all of the great reviews. While the food was pretty good, it definitely was not worth the price. We shared two appetizers and an entree and our total was close to $60 and we left hungry. While the atmosphere and service were both very good, I don't think we will be back.

Yelp
Brunch Sunday The restaurant itself is small and quaint but fit our party of 12 nicely. They also have a nice porch for dining. Waitress/staff were great! Our waitress was super sweet and accommodating. We got a few appetizers: Chicken biscuits- really good with a small kick. I like these the best of all the apps. The biscuit was the highlight of this dish! Asparagus bisque- I didn't try this but those that did seem to think it was really good but both noted the asparagus taste is strong so be sure you like asparagus if you order this! Crispy shrimp- also really good. Unexpected flavor but in a delicious way! Risotto Balls- yummy! Not my fav but still yummy! Crispy Potatoes- I thought these were average is a good way. I found the sauce bland but my husband loved the sauce. Entrees: Chicken and biscuits- It was okay but nothing special. Both the chicken and the waffles were a tiny bit bland. That being said my husband ate it all. Flatiron Steak and eggs- soooooo good! The steak was amazing! breakfast gnocchi- when I asked my sister how it was she said "not that good". That's all the detail I got from her. Caesar salad- service was top notch when my nephew asked for the kitchen to cut his salad up. When I asked him how it was he said "it's really good". Overall 5 stars because we didn't have anything bad and overall enjoyed the restaurants service and food for our special occasion brunch!

Yelp
This location has been home to several different restaurants over the years, but this was my first time trying it as Park Bistro. Certainly didn't disappoint! We came with a party of 6 for a friend's birthday during the holidays season. The outside waiting area and patio are very inviting - I booked for inside space as we didn't know what the weather would do, tho there were people dining on the patio that evening. We started out with the roasted beets (meh...but but difficult for me to say since I'm not a fan of beets anyway) and the risotto balls (fabulous!). Entrees at our table included the flatiron steak (a bit too far toward rare on the medium-rare spectrum), the ricotta gnocchi (no complaints heard), the Nashville hot shrimp burger (think crab cake burger, just other shrimp), and the eggplant lasagna. Everything looked good, but the eggplant lasagna was really out of this world. Finished it off with the Lemon Bomb for dessert. Our server was new to the gig and still figuring things out. Everyone at our table had water with dinner, but it never got refilled after the initial service. Overall, it's a nice addition to the area, giving locals somewhere for evening dining just around the corner from Olde Tyme Grocery.

Yelp
Had the opportunity to grub here for lunch with the work crew. We ordered various menu items and all were excellent. The atmosphere was comfortable, and they had no problem accommodating our reservation (lunch). Waitress was attentive and knowledgeable of the menu. I highly recommend this establishment.

Yelp
1st visit was so nice for Sunday brunch! Great cup of coffee, excellent service, very clean, nice breakfast options, lots of lunch choices. Can't wait to go back!

Debora S.

Yelp
There were six of us having brunch. We were seated quickly. Everyone's food but mine was great. Apparently the pancakes are a party in your mouth. :). The shrimp and gnocchi was a disappointment. Great gnocchi but the shrimp were skimpy and had no taste. The sauce was awful. It tasted like cornstarch and water. The butternut squash in the dish was barely cooked. Service was average. I was not impressed with the biscuits. There were two very small lukewarm biscuits for 6.00.

Yelp
We ate outside the ambiance was perfect and food was farm to table fresh. Great place to go to with friends or date night!

Yelp
Great food, reasonably priced and no waiting line, which is a winning combo to me. There are indoor and balcony seating choices.

Yelp
Intimate inside. Cozy. Can be loud but outside seating is nice. A little pricey but will definitely go back.

Yelp
One of the best restaurant in Lafayette! The service, food, drinks and atmosphere are all amazing. Love this place.

Yelp
Bringing a new vibe to Lafayette! Honestly, didn't know what to expect. I hadn't looked at the menu before being invited to join some friends for brunch. I was visiting from out of state, but I knew this was an up-and-coming spot in Lafayette. The Risotto Balls are KILLER! MUST GET! Black Eye Pea Toast was incredibly difficult to eat. The plank is useless, but I understand the aesthetic. Flavor was a "meh" but everyone else's entrees looked delightful! I'd go back, but definitely for their dinner offerings instead of brunch.

Yelp
Bon Appétit! I saw this place just opened up recently from social media, and I just had to give it a go. Overall, the impeccable food, superior service, and vibing atmosphere were top-notch. Both Peter, the chef and general manager, and our bartender did one hell of a good job! I'm definitely coming back here again! It's the perfect spot for a date night or get out of the house night. Your choice! 1. Ahi Tuna Crudo 2. Flatiron Steak 3. Nashville Hot Shrimp Burger (favorite) 4. Chicken Ballotine 5. Risotto Balls 6. Potato Gnocchi (favorite) 7. Chocolate Tart (To Die FOR!) #LambChopOnTheGeaux #parkbistrolafayette #lafayettelouisiana #frenchfood #foodaddict

Yelp
Service was AMAZING! I highly recommend making reservations since the place is tiny! There's outdoor seating too. We went for lunch and I ordered a grilled chicken sandwich and half filled me up! My husband ordered the BLT. The sauces are created by the chef and they're appealing to the eyes with bright colors and tasty with distinct Flavors but do be prepared for very messy fingers! I'd recommend switching slice toast to a bun for the grilled chicken since by the time I got to the second half of my sandwich the bread was soaked in the buttery sauce. My husband got crusty potatoes and they're delicious! I chose Brussel sprouts instead for a healthier option but they arrived SOAKED in what appeared to be cooking oil & falling off of the saucer everywhere. They tasted like grease so I didn't eat them. The total was $50 plus tip so we walked out dropping $70 for lunch which I feel is a little steep for lunch for 2! Yes I recommend but might be better for dinner than lunch. I also would recommend requesting sauces be put on the side for sandwich orders to go or if you're watching your diet since the bright orange sauce fell out in clumps from my sandwich when I bit into it! Tasty but messy!!!

Yelp
Lovely restaurant! Great food and great atmosphere! Mimosas are a must! Sitting outdoors is fun on pretty days but indoor seating is fun too!!
google avatar

Yelp
Inside dining is very small and can get really loud when busy. Outside dining has fans, is covered, and has shade. Flavors were spot on and everything was very fresh and a nice departure from what you typically find in Lafayette restaurants. Will be back.

Deborah J.

Yelp
Food and service was exceptional. A wonderful little gem in Lafayette and a must try .

Yelp
Amazing service! Paul the bartender was lovely. Great food! Well priced for what you get. I will be back. :) Thanks!

Mikey W.

Yelp
Great place to enjoy a drink at the bar, brunch outside on Sunday mornings or even a birthday! Food never fails to impress any first time friends. The staff is very friendly and understanding. The kitchen accommodates specials on Fridays during lent, for us, coming from a large catholic family!

Yelp
Great service and maybe the best food in Lafayette. We tried 5 different appetizers and a dessert...every plate was even better than the one before. If the black eyed pea toast and hummus is on the menu, do yourself a favor and try it.
google avatar

Heather K.

Yelp
Always amazing food and service. Definitely a favorite in Lafayette. Food is fresh and executed well.

Don S.

Yelp
Simply stated, Park Bistro is amazing! From the quaint atmosphere to the incredible food, to the service (a special shout out to Paul), this is truly a hidden treasure in Lafayette! Lastly, the chicken liver pate' is among the best we have had worldwide wide.

Yelp
We enjoyed the restaurant 2 times during our visit to Lafayette. The steak was excellent. Prices are reasonable and great drinks. They stay open a little late for the area. Go ahead and try the restauranta

Andrew B.

Yelp
The burger was the most salty piece of food I've ever had. Burger was falling apart and way too greasy. Service was very nice
google avatar

Jen G.

Yelp
We went for brunch and the selection was limited. I enjoyed my meal but my husband and son were underwhelmed. We will try again for dinner when the menu is a little more robust. Service was what you'd expect from a neighborhood restaurant.
google avatar

Amanda L.

Yelp
This little place is bustling and a fun atmosphere casual chic. We had an early dinner and loved everything we tried from the appetizers to the meal. No room left for dessert and that was the only dissapointing thing!

Kay T.

Yelp
WOW! Our new fave! Friday night was our 2nd time to eat here and it was fantastic both times. The roasted salmon was perfectly cooked, moist and delicious, topped with melted leeks and on top of roasted onion risotto with mushrooms. I wasn't quite sure what to expect from the melted leeks, but they were soft, silky and amazing. Very nice size portion. My husband opted for butternut squash soup and carpaccio, and then finished my salmon. Small but nice and affordable wine selection. Flourless chocolate tart topped off a great dinner. The menu has plenty of options for starters, entrees and sides, and offers options for vegetarian, etc. The atmosphere is casual but elevated and great for a date night. We ate ate on the patio both times and loved it. The inside area seemed a bit loud for our tastes. Very friendly, helpful and attentive service.

Marty W.

Yelp
My wife and I took our daughter out to dinner while in town and everything at Park Bistro was a treat. The risotto balls were excellent as a warm up to the entrees. The flatiron steak, red snapper and potato gnocchi were are winners. We were too full for dessert, so we comment there. We would return to Park Bistro when in town.

Miles K.

Yelp
The best restaurant I have been!! Service was great, cool place. Everything is great recommend strongly
