Fortune House Chinese Cuisine

This is one of my most favorite restaurants in DFW. I need to also visit the Lower Greenville location! This Fortune House location is more family-friendly and has a relaxed atmosphere. The food is incredible and there is a large menu to choose from. Our favorites are the dumpling sampler (pan fried but steamed is also delicious) and the orange beef. We also always get jasmine tea and it is delicious. I tried the mango pudding for the first time and it was dairy free made with coconut milk. Service has always been exceptional here. Even if you can’t afford to buy multiple plates for a big meal the small plates are affordable and filling for lunch.

I was so excited to try Fortune house and ordered via Uber eats for the first time. I was shocked at the poor quality of the food. The pan fried pork buns had potential to be good, but they were completely burnt on the bottom. The burnt smell was horrendous and was all over the bun The hot and sour soup was also disgusting, worst I have ever had (And I absolutely love hot and sour soup normally). The soup was incredibly salty and lacking in filling… I don’t think I’ve ever seen hot and sour soup this color as well. Inedible. I also ordered the soup dumplings, Which were OK (The tops of the dumplings were very thick, and not a ton of filling), And the chili wontons (doughy taste, not a lot of filling). Overall, the best things were the fried wonton chips which came with the soup, and the sauces that came with the dumplings/wonton. Pretty sad for a meal, and shocking with how terrible it was

So delicious forgot to take pics and all most finished everything! Delicious soup dumplings Xiao long bao pork and crab and pork. Only recommend pork xiao long bao since crab one is not worth $4 more dollars. Actually like taste of pork one better. Pan fried pork buns were great but next time when I’m back probably want pork one and want to try spicy wonton!

The Honey Beef with 6 buns was really disappointing. The beef was very tough and hard to chew — completely different from the picture. I’ve ordered other dishes before and they were great, but the beef this time was a letdown. The beef in the Dry-fried Rice Noodles was also big, tough, and not tender at all.

This review is for Zane! You are amazing! This was my first time here and Zane helped me order and everything that was brought to our table for better and better and better! The sizes were large so I had leftovers and they were just as good the next day! I had the lychee lemonade (not on the menu) and it was awesome! I got one to go and forgot it and when I came back for it he had it at the bar with a covered straw waiting for me just in case I was coming back The food The service The atmosphere Wonderful! Eat here!

I had dinner at this place yesterday and made my reservation through Google. They honored all my requests, and I was warmly welcomed by an amazing server named Alex. She truly elevated our experience by explaining the dishes, engaging in conversation, and ensuring we were well taken care of. She was incredibly attentive, checking in on us frequently and promptly refilling my drink when it was running low. The food was absolutely outstanding! I ordered the ginger beef and started with a sampler of dumplings—both were exceptional in quality. The restaurant's ambiance was wonderful, offering a great view, but the highlight of the evening was undoubtedly the top-tier customer service provided by Alex. I love sharing my experiences through reviews, and this place definitely exceeded my expectations. A huge thank you to the entire team, from the kitchen staff to the front-line service—you are all fantastic!

Omg! I had the best experience at this restaurant. We came for lunch, about 30 min before they closed for their evening setup. Y'all! The ambience was amazing! It's such a vibe! Everything was delicious! The only complaint that I had was that when you order a meat entree they give you the option of fried vs steamed rice. That side of rice they bring ain't worth a damn, but everything else was great y'all! We ordered the sesame chicken, the boiling beef, the crispy green beans and the dumpling sampler. Our server Ana was the best! Cannot wait to come back to this spot!

I usually don’t give lower than 4 star rating at any restaurant, but this restaurant is an exception. The interior of this place is quite nice and the service was quite pleasant. However, when it comes to food it is mostly disappointing. We ordered five dishes including a Shumai. Out of the dishes we ordered, only the hot boiled beef and the Shumai were decent. The edamame tofu literally is a microwaved edamame, the rest tasted just like ones you can get from cheap take out place for munchies. Above all, the entree portions are small with expensive upcharges compared to other places. The 3 star rating I’m leaving is the balance of mostly mediocre food quality and good service.

Overall good Chinese food with mostly hits but a few misses. There aren't many Chinese restaurants around this area so happy to have this nearby! Hits - Pork soup dumpling. I tend to be picky about soup dumplings because my family is from around the Shanghai area but these surprised be pleasantly with a lot of soup but not being too oily. - Salted pork soup. Flavorful and light brothy soup you don't get too often amongst more Americanized starchier soups like Hot and Sour soup. Only con here was that there weren't too many ingredients in there, probably only 3-4 pieces of tofu. - Yangzhou fried rice. Tasty fried rice although not completely up to an actual "Yangzhou" style fried rice that's usually drier rice but overall would order again - Honey walnut prawn. A very tasty dish in general but appreciated the large prawn size. A little too much mayo for my taste but enjoyed a lot Miss - Lions head meatball had an artificial sweetener flavor to it, almost like Stevia and it was a strong aftertaste. Don't really recommend from this location - Snow peas. A standard Chinese stir fry veggie but it was very oily and wet, which usually defeats the purpose of a veggie

Wonderful experience! Saturday night dinner, we were seated immediately as a party of four. Our waiter was super attentive and had lots of support from his peers. While the restaurant was busy, it wasn't too noisy-our table was able to have a nice conversation and hear each other. The fish tank when you walk in is impressive, such beautiful fish! Parking was a little packed but not terrible. We ordered: Pork soup dumplings Dumpling Sampler-Fried Sesame Chicken-Steamed Rice Honey Walnut Shrimp-Fried Rice Shanghai Fried Rice Shanghai Scallion Noodles Every single dish was superb! Temperature on point, flavors superb, portion sizes plentiful! I definitely recommend stopping in to try this place, you will not be disappointed.

I uber eats this place on a regular basis but never been in person till last night. Food was terrific as always! The service was good and atmosphere was ok. We got sat in a very dark corner but other than that I have no complaints!

First time at this location. We came on a Sunday afternoon around 1 PM. We first discovered this place during their soft opening at the Greenville location. This place must be their original location since it has a much older feel. The first thing I noticed was the off putting smell - like backed up sewage & overwhelming bathroom. I'm pretty sensitive to smells, but the smell was throughout the whole restaurant. (I think it's the cleaner they use, it's too strong smelling.) The second thing was the menus - they definitely need a reprint as both our menus had very faded ink & looked like they had been spilled on multiple times - I had to ask for a new one since I couldn't read the first one they gave me. Soup Dumplings - Good flavor. Dumplings did not stick to each other nor on the serving container. Skin was thin & plenty of soup inside. I would recommend these. Chow Mein (pork) - Good flavor. Pork was not overcooked. Salt & Pepper Fish - Nice a crispy. Good flavor. I think it could have been slightly stronger by about 10-20% & it would have been phenomenal. I would still recommend. Pan Fried Pork Buns - Bottoms of buns are lined with sesame seeds, which I thought was interesting. I'm not a fan of lots of sesame seeds, but the flavor was not too overwhelming. A lot of soul in these, which I found surprising. I would recommend. Overall, the food was spot on, but the environment definitely needs to be refreshed. The service was great - everyone was friendly, prompt, & food came out fast. I would have given this place a 5/5 if it wasn't for the run down feeling & off putting smell. The smell really interfered with my ability to taste the food properly. Not sure if I would recommend this place in its current condition. Maybe we'll try takeout next time.

I've been coming here for years and I've seen this restaurant go down a bit further with each visit. This time, they had a few items unavailable at 11:30am. I'd understand not having items available in the evening or late afternoon, but not when you barely open. The scent of mothballs runs deep throughout the restaurant. It was somewhat bothersome during the meal. The eggplant dish I had was good, although it came with a lukewarm small bowl of rice. Don't know if I'll be making a trip back...this one was disappointing.

The food here is downright delicious. My wife, who's as picky as a food critic with a chip on her shoulder, claims it's some of the best she's had in all of DFW. And I have to agree; every bite was a tasty little masterpiece. But then there's the service... Lord help us. It was sloooow. Like, 'I could've raised a sourdough starter' slow. And here's where things took a turn: two gentlemen were wheeled into the hallway, smack dab in the middle of the servers' NASCAR-like hustle. At least one server tripped over a wheelchair. Sweet baby Jesus, you'd think they'd park them up front where there's a bit more elbow room for everyone. Though when my wife asked, the server mentioned the gentleman wanted to be parked there. So, for the food? Five stars, easy. But the slow service and hallway chaos knock it down to four.

Interesting spot tucked away in a shopping center. Ample seating from a bar area right at the entrance to the main dining area in the back with a "view" of the surrounding area as it sits a bit elevated. Felt a bit warm/humid inside but fortunately only 3 other tables a little after 7 on a Thursday (3 more came in before I left). Came in after reading recommendations on the best spot for XLB in greater Dallas area. I got an order of XLB, marinated duck, kao fu and sautéed bok choy seeking an authentic Shanghai experience. Service was meh, mostly prompt and friendly at least, place appeared clean and organized inside. Food started coming out 10 min after ordering. Kao fu came first and was warm, quite honestly would've preferred cold as the reheat caused it to become a bit tough and rubbery vs the airy and crisp texture it should be (and more likely to be without additional reheating after initial cook) - 3/5. XLB was next to come out and while some ginger slices were in a dish that was brought out, I had to specifically ask for traditional black vinegar as only white vinegar. Calamity struck shortly after however, while the container was marked vinegar, was actually filled with soy sauce, big L there and almost completely ruined a XLB. Order came out with 8pc and tbh probably the best I've had in the states, rivaling that of a much more expensive offering at Ding Tai Fun. Very thin wrap, delightful soup inside and a nice filling also. Easily 4/5 and would've been 5/5 if not for the vinegar/soy sauce mishap. (Could also afford to be less stingy on the ginger slices). Bok choy came out 3rd and was largely pretty solid. Main complaint in that it was lazily cut and retained way too much of the tough stem. 3/5 After 30 min and no duck I had to ask one of the waitstaff who was standing around with another just chatting. It did come out hot 5 min later and sauce and taste on point, very tender also. Serving size was very much a snack/appetizer portion and it was really just a leg cut up with a tiny bit of the thy, a lot of small bones and whatnot to work through. 4/5. Lastly, rice was a bit undercooked so I had maybe 2 bites and left it alone. Overall a nice spot with tasty and authentic food. Staff and service could work on attentiveness especially when the place sat mostly empty. I wouldn't hesitate to come back and feast out on XLB alone.

We had a good experience here. Service was good. People were friendly.Food could have come out faster though. Most of it was hot as it should be which makes waiting fine. Everything was tasty. Dumpling sampler is a must. Sadly I've had better truffle soup dumplings in NYC so won't get that again. AC was working perfectly when we came here. Easy to find parking. The view outside was nice.

Disappointing this time around. This was my mom's favorite Shanghainese restaurant and she wanted to come for Mother's Day this year. Service was there (hence adding the two stars) but the food was such a disappointment. The food literally came in less than 10 minutes after we placed the order... that should've been the first sign. Smoked Fish - my mom was really looking forward to this dish as we can't find any other restaurants that make this. Last time we had this, it was amazing so we were excited this time. They must have switched chefs because this was very disappointing. The fish BARELY had any meat and the sauce was soo bitter (almost seems like they added too much of the dark or thick soy sauce). The only thing I can say about this dish that's good was that it was crispy Sichuan Boiled Fish - Disappointing! The amount of fish, cabbage, bean sprouts inside was okay but the taste was lacking. I did not taste any of the spiciness or the numbness that you are supposed to get from the peppercorns. It almost looked like they threw in crushed red peppers on top (the ones you see on pizza ) Orange Chicken - Decent! The chicken was moist and crunchy and the flavor was there. I personally wouldn't order this dish again but my mom and brother enjoyed it. Yan Du Xian - broth was flavorful with the pork bones but super lacking in the bamboo shoots and added plenty of tofu skin (wonder why ) Eggplant in Hot Garlic Sauce - I would recommend this dish. Eggplant wasn't overly mushy and the sauce was tasty! Hong Shan Rou - decent. Would I order this again? Not for the price listed. For $22 I would hope the amount of pork would be a good amount but was disappointed. Yes there were a good few bigger pieces (like 5) but I do not think it was worth this price. Pork was tender though and bok choy was crunchy Honey Walnut Shrimp - I couldn't try this as they added pineapple (my fault for not disclosing this as a food allergy) but I was surprised as pineapples are not usually added to this dish. My mom said that the shrimp was battered well and it was crunchy. However, the walnuts didn't taste right and to her, tasted like it was old/stale. Pan Fried Pork Bun - added another star (to make it 3 star) because they did this dish right. The pork was flavorful and plenty of soup inside without the dough being overly thick. We ordered two of these. Though, I was surprised that they did not immediately provide the vinegar with this dish.. we had to ask for it Overall, I don't think we will visit this place again as the prices went up but quality/taste went down.

I loved the orange beef and the spicy Sichuan fish. We ordered both with steamed rice and it was a perfect dinner for a cold rainy night. We also ordered pork soup dumplings, but I didn't like them too much. The dough seemed to be on the thicker side. My drink was the Shanghai sour. I appreciated that it wasn't too sweet or too sour, but I'll go with something else next time. Service was attentive without being intrusive. As others have mentioned, the restaurant is really nice. They also have an open-air seating area outside with pretty string lights. My bill came to about $72 plus tip, which I thought was a great price. There's plenty of parking outside the restaurant.

It's definitely not the same dumpling Mecca it once was. Xiao long bao was flavorless, and pan fried pork dumplings were soggy. These used to be the best in DFW, I would rank them mid to towards the bottom now. If this review was just for the dumplings, it would be 2 stars at best. But I also got the garlic tofu eggplant, and that was the highlight of the meal. Beef chow fun was salty but serviceable. We just drank water, it was room temp. Overall ok meal, but I doubt we'll be back, with so many better options in the area now.

Our family hang out with friends lived nearby. We loved the food and very nice staff.

10 out 10 on the BAO would eat it again and again and again. It kind of taste like something familiar but in an amazing package

Thoroughly unsatisfied. The soup no bueno, the beef no bueno. Overpriced for what it is and you could find better quality at Panda Express compared to what I got. Would recommend wu wei din or other restaurants in the area instead.

Incredibly disappointed in this restaurant my Uber has been there for over an hour. "Everyone is in the kitchen" so no one is able to help him or give him a time on how long things will take. I have personally called the restaurant 10 times and not a single answer. This is just not acceptable.

Awesome dumplings in Irving! We have been a few times and we always dine-in. I've never had anything I didn't like. The waiters are always very attentive. I decided to try delivery. What a great experience! I ordered the Chili Wontons, Dumpling Sampler and Chicken Taro Egg Rolls. Everything was delicious. I also recommend the Orange Beef and String Beans.

We come here often for their soup dumplings, pan fried buns and their noodles! The soup dumplings are great, but wish they did have a little more soup in them. The pan fried buns have a crispy bottom and soft top. The chili wontons were flavorful and another favorite! There is usually about an hour wait on Friday night and weekends so be prepared to wait. Cannot make reservations. Plentiful parking out front.

I absolutely love soup dumplings & I will say these are some of the best I have had in the DFW area. The juicy soup filling enclosed in a thin dumpling skin. The pan fried buns were also great, but I wasn't too impressed with the other dishes I tried. The tea duck was a bit too salty & tried + the honey beef was okay. The servers were quick as we put in multiple orders + the restaurant was decorated nicely. I also heard great things about their Dallas location!

Probably go here every other month. Location is convenient and the food is actually good. Haven't had anything I didn't like. From lo mein noodles to the por soup dumplings. My favorite is the cucumber salad. Would recommend to family and friends especially for drinks since the inside is very beautifully done and decorated. Service has always been up to par no issues ever.

I had high hopes for Fortune House as it was recommended by a foodie friend of mine but was underwhelmed by the food. We ordered the soup dumplings and mapu tofu. The soup dumplings were all touching at the edges and they stuck together which made it impossible to pick one up without tearing an edge of the wrapper and spilling out all the soup inside. The mapu tofu was also flawed: it had no visible pork in it and was a bit bland in both heat and flavor. Perhaps the chef was having an off day because my friend usually does not steer me wrong. The service was generally good but I was left sitting for 10 minutes with an empty water glass at one point. Pros: The atmosphere was surprisingly upscale for a Chinese restaurant in this price range. Easy to park. Outside patio seating is available.

Came here on a Friday after lunch with my husband. We ordered the green beans, chili wonton, and pecking duck. Service was fine, but the restaurant did smell like cleaner, which is off-putting during the day. The food was also not up to par. Will have to make another visit to see if the experience is better next time.

One visit was all we needed. Glad we tried a new place we've never been but all 3 of us said, would not come back. Sat outdoors because it was a beautiful day, we liked that they had a great patio. But the music they were playing was not the vibe. It was a mix of Bad Bunny, regaeton and rap. ??? This is an Asian restaurant. At the very least, play classical or instrumental calmer music. It's not a club! And definitely not kid appropriate The food was very mediocre. I will say the dumpling sampler was good. It came out hot . The vegetable one was sooooo salty though. The honey garlic pork had no taste. Other than a ton if honey but there wasn't much sweetness flavor to the honey. It was just very sticky, due to the excessive pile of "honey sauce". General tso tasted more like sour than the traditional sweet/sour flavor. Chicken chow mein was soooooooo salty. You literally had to mix in some plIn white rice to try to stretch out the saltiness. I liked the spices green beans however, half the batch was old green beans. You can tell due to the bitterness and skin texture. (We're chinese. We know.) Their fried rice as a side component to the entrees had zero flavor whatsoever.

Decided to check this spot out bc I was craving XLB. Upon walking in, there's a small bar and station where you can see the dumplings being made. There's a cute fish tank in the lobby and the decor is nice. I only wish the booths were in better shape as the leather was torn on most of them making for slightly uncomfortable seating. We started off with the garlic cucumber which was sooo good! It was the perfect balance of dressing. The Pork XLB were on the smaller side but nicely filled and super tasty. The pork buns looked perfectly toasted with sesame seeds and had the perfect filling. Slightly soupy and delicious! Finally the house fried rice. Big portion of rice loaded with chicken peas and carrots. Service was fairly quick and friendly!

We had an amazing time. Usually this place is super packed. We went about an hour or so before closing. We shared the Pork Xiao Long Bao, I had the Dai Ching Chicken (which I can't find anywhere else) and my partner had the Boiled Beef Szechuan Style soup. Both dishes as always were fantastic! The serving sizes are quite large and I wish I'd just shared an entree. Our server was really nice to speak with and we a really nice conversation about spice levels and what normally we can handle. (Which is a lot). Prices are really reasonable as compared to other places we've eaten at. Will definitely come again and hope to see our lovely server again!

Finally got to try out this place. Maybe more like 3.5*/ 5. Initial service was kind of slow but it got better throughout the meal. Our server stopped by frequently to make sure we had water and had everything we needed. It got busy quickly around lunch but she was still attentive. What we ordered: - Chili oil wontons: different from other places. Had a peanut-y kind of sauce and wasn't spicy. It was good but not the best - Crispy pork buns: these were my favorite! Super crispy and sesame bottom, juicy and flavorful pork filling. If anything, you have to get this here! - Pork xlb: I had higher expectations for this. It's definitely more juicy than other places, but the wrapper was a bit too thick. Flavor was good but not a lot of pork inside tbh. - Beef chow fun, pan fried chicken dumplings and cucumber salad: all of these were meh. My friend and I didn't like the filling for the chicken dumplings too much. It wasn't super crispy either for being pan fried. Noodles in the beef chow fun were over cooked to me? Taste was pretty standard. If they didn't over cook the noodles, I'd like it more. Cucumber salad was good. Not spicy and not what I expected but it was a refreshing contrast to the meal. Oh we also got bok choy and their string beans. Worth it for the price and we wanted veggies. Overall, Fortune House is good but not amazing. It was on my list for quite a while so glad I got to try it. I'll come back for the crispy pork buns and maybe try one or two other items.

Was craving soup dumplings and heard this was a good place to try out. We ended up setting a reservation since it's a holiday weekend incase and went a little early to beat the crowd. We started off with the crab rangoons and the garlic cucumbers. The garlic cucumbers was 10/10! The crab rangoons were not as expected probably like an 8/10 still delicious with the sauces that came with it. Ordered the pork and pork/crab soup dumplings which both were phenomenal. Was a good mix of soup and meat! The spicy green beans were a perfect blend of spicy, sweet and savory 10/10. Overall the food was exceptional and the service was great. They were pretty busy but Reese was amazing and working hard. He was so attentive to us to make sure everything was great and if we got all the food we ordered. Will definitely make the drive again to get our soup dumpling fix.

Got charged 35 dollars for meh rose sake when I asked for 9 dollar peach sake, I haven't had this expensive of a meal in a while. Flies during dinner time with meh twice cooked pork and chow mein...I rarely give less than 3 stars (look at my reviews) but when I do, it's bad. Wish I could like this place but that soured the rest of my week so I'm not letting this one go.

We love this place. Best Chinese food in Irving hands down. Zayn took great care of us, and really enjoyed making sure we had a good time. Can't wait to be back! The GM was fabulous too but we didn't catch his name. Amazing food and staff.

The food was pretty decent. The Chinese broccoli didn't have any garlic in it (it traditionally should), and it was very bitter. The jellyfish was good, but my favorite dish was the sweet and sour fish. The portions are huge so I recommend sharing it family style. It was hot in the restaurant, so we were sweating bad. Our waiter was very nice. Overall, it was pretty good and I would come back.

This was our first time trying this place out after hearing so many raving reviews about it. We came in on a Monday evening and had no issues with getting seated. The service was good too, there were only 4 tables full when we walked in. We ordered the soup dumplings steams and the sampler. My husband and I also ordered a Mongolian beef entree to split. The soup dumplings were pretty good- good flavor and held together when picked up. But they were pricey for what you get. The sampler was about the same in terms of flavor and taste. The Mongolian beef that we got had great flavor but I felt like we got jipped a little bit on the meat. For $18, there was way more onions that there were meat. The ratio was definitely off. For that price, I would've expected there to be a considerable amount of food but it was just barely enough for maybe 2 1/2 servings. The only negative thing that stood out to me was the flies! There were SO many flies flying around when we came. Overall, if you're looking for a quick dim sum fix, this place will suit you just fine. I would return again.

We came in pretty late (8pm) on a Saturday and were seated relatively fast! It was pretty hot inside but they opened the doors to air it out maybe 3/4 of the way through our dinner. They are a Shanghai kitchen so we had to order the Shanghai noodles and the dumplings! The pan fried buns were amazing, I don't typically see it with sesame seeds on the bottom but it added some good texture. The soup dumplings were also good but we had two that got stuck to the paper and ended up tearing. The noodles were amazing! Really tasty and well-portioned. However the Chinese broccoli was mostly stalk and felt like there wasn't enough florets. It also needed a little bit more flavor. Service was very quick and friendly!

WHAT HAPPENED HERE ? Used to order dishes after dishes, just as great as left-over. Today, walked in, the staff and kitchen support were all different. Favorite dishes from the past with 4 stars and now 2 stars. The restaurant must have exchanged ownership since I was last here.

All above horrible. I ordered the combination fried rice, and got white rice with egg. instead of saying we are not serving fried rice at this time or none is cooked, don't wait till I get home, and open the bag to find out y'all jimped me. I called and no one answered, horrible. I put it all back in the bag and will be there tomorrow to return it cause that's ridiculous. $17+ for white rice. no. I will take my business elsewhere from now on

There seems to be mixed reviews of this place and I can see why. The service, food and ambience gave me mixed feelings. Service: In the beginning, they said wait was going to be over 40 minutes but we got seated within 20. Food took a while to come out and when we asked, the server did not seem to know the status. I will give him props though because he was not our designated server and did his best to serve us. Food: Recently have had things on menu not available so this just may depend on when you go. - Xiao Long Bao: Skin thicker than what I would like but the soup is definitely good, probably one of the best in Dallas. - Pan Fried Pork Burns: seared well on the bottom but overall kind of soggy - needed more time to cook. The flavor is on point though. - Mongolian Beef: Standard with lots of onion (not a good or bad thing). Portions are great for the price. Ambience: Definitely a busy place and smaller than I expected. Would not recommend for quiet environment but would bring friends/family visiting. Certainly not bad but also not the best.

Very happy with my experience at Fortune House. I met up with a colleague for a catchup over lunch here last week. We were the first to arrive for lunch and were seated promptly. I'm glad we arrived when we did, because a lot more people showed up right after us. We ordered the pork soup dumplings to start and both ordered off of the lunch menu. The soup dumplings were fantastic, and were probably my favorite part of the meal. I ordered the orange chicken. It was a little sweeter than I usually like, but still good. I also enjoyed the hot and sour soup that came with the meal. The service was great. We got out of there under $50.

The three of us ordered two trays of the XLB with crab and pork, the cabbage and pork dumplings, sauteed snow pea leaves, and the beef chow fun. The XLB was fresh, juicy and had a good amount of crab and pork flavors coming through. The dipping sauce we made at the table with fresh ginger, soy sauce, and black vinegar complemented the soup dumplings perfectly. The beef chow fun had noodles with a nice chewy texture and a good quality beef. The sauce was light and flavorful. Unlike some places that make this dish too sweet, this one did it right. The pan fried dumplings were very tasty and the wrap had the right thickness. The one suggestion I have is to use a larger plate so the server's hand doesn't touch the dumplings, which hang over the plate, as they're being served. While the pea leaves were fresh and the dish looked great, it was a tad oily and lacked flavor. We used the hot sauce to liven it up a bit. Overall, this is a place that serves up excellent Chinese food at a fair price. What bumped up the rating to five stars was the outstanding service. The server was very friendly and responsive. The kitchen was visible through a glass partition and the restaurant was clean and spacious.

Fortune House was....okay. Let get into why I feel it's just okay. The service was rushed. And the Honey Garlic Pork was okay. It was beautifully plated and you could smell the fragrant garlic...but you could not taste any garlic. It didn't have much flavor at all honestly. We started with chicken and celery dumplings which were really good and interesting. I also had the Chili Wontons which were good too. Our entrees were just...eh I don't know. They weren't terrible but they weren't good. The honey garlic pork was just fried meat strips in a glaze. No distinct taste or flavor. The General Tso Chicken had more of a savory flavor but nothing stood out. I'm not writing Fortune House off, though. I'd definitely come back and stick to just dumplings and wontons. And I'd definitely stay away from the regular dishes that were probably catered to "American" palates.

The pork Xiao long bao and pan fried pork buns were great but the rest of the meal was just ok. Portions are smaller then usual and not as spicy as the should be. And never brought one of our dishes. Service was terrible. This is the second time it wasn't great here. Used to be my favorite place but will have to find another place now.

The dumplings were full and flavorful and the sauces were actually spicy. The chili wontons were good just not my thing, but the cucumber salad was everything... The fried rice was good also. Ambiance was nice and settling and the service was great. Will definitely be back.

Make a reservation. It's just easier. Man, go for the soup dumplings! Easily the kind of food you try and then get hooked on. The kind of food you reminisce and spend fleeting moments reliving the savor. You can't go wrong with the friend or steamed. Got like 3 different kinds. I also got leek pancakes. They were delicious. Their pumpkin cake for desert was like hopia. They were super portable and I enjoyed eating it again at home. My husband like the fried fish. The digs inside are poor, man. Like the kind of place where the booth is all duct taped to Hell. Try not to wear shorts or satin. That's literally my biggest gripe.

I don't know what has happened at this Fortune House, but the food has been going downhill for the last year. Staple items are always "out" and today we were provided watered down hot mustard and sweet and sour sauce. We were told it's the chefs "new recipe". Well, it's terrible. Let's not forget the back dining room where music is being played out of blown out speaks. Guess we'll be traveling to Lower Greenville in the future. Is it new ownership? New management? I don't know, but it explains why we're the only guests in the restaurant at 11:30 am on a Sunday.

Looked for a place with something with soup on Yelp today for lunch. I found this place and was I so happy! Perfectly made dumping with lots of flavor and hot. I added a little chili sauce and what a great meal. Hot tea and just right on a cold day in Dallas.

I ordered Uber eats from here but wow I really enjoyed their pork dumpings! This chili oil is the best I've had around! Definitely will go again soon!

It's a sad day my friends but Fortune House has jumped the shark. When they first opened and for years after, they were one of the most amazing Chinese restaurants around with the best soup dumplings. They also had a friendly staff and great customer service. Those things are no more. Now, when you walk through the front door, the first thing the rude man asks is if you have a reservation. Umm if your food and service commanded requiring reservations then I could understand that. Also, if every table in the house was full then I could understand that too. So we gave up on dining in because there are far too many restaurants around to wait 45 minutes for mediocrity. As far as the food goes, well, tonight we ordered to-go for the last time because the rice was cold, the soup dumplings were small and sour (as in foul), and the sweet and sour chicken was just OK. And the customer service was once again rude and lacking any gratefulness for our business. So, unfortunately I am altering my years long 5-star review to a 1-star, do not recommend. So long, Misfortune House!

This place is more like a 3.75 out of 5 stars. authentic Chinese good in the middle of DFW... i was definitely skeptical. This place is located in the corner of a strip plaza . we ended up getting a few items via the online ordering system. When we got there, it was ready for pick up. Items we got: pork xiao long bao (soup dumplings) pan fried dumplings. drunken chicken shanghai noodles sweet and sour ribs. Honestly, i came in with very low expectations for the xlb, but i was pleasantly surprised with quality and taste. It wasn't as juicy as din tai fung, but it was good for being in the middle of texas. The pan fried dumplings, another shanghai favorite, was really good. it wasn't too crispy at the bottom, but it definitely packed a punch in terms of flavor. The shanghai noodles were also a solid choice. As for the sweet and sour ribs and drunken chicken. I don't know if i'll get these items again. I don't think i've had drunken chicken before, and its a very acquired taste. The chicken was really soaked in rice wine and the taste was strong... didn't enjoy this dish as much. If i'm craving asian food, i'll come back.

Wow! Fortune House did not disappoint! This Chinese restaurant is better than 95% of the Chinese restaurants in Houston. Seriously!! The soup dumplings were bomb! The dough is thin, perfect soup to meat ratio, and the flavor...perfection! The beef soup itself was hearty, beefy, and aromatic. I want to use this soup for French onion soup! The noodles had the perfect amount of chew. The beef shank was tender as can be. The pan fried pork buns were the star of the meal! The black sesame seeds on top added a light crunch , then to the dough, which was soft, airy and had just the right amount of chewiness. The bottom of the pork bun is fried with a layer of regular sesame seeds giving a nice crunch. Right in the middle of the bun is a pork meatball full of flavor that explodes with juices!! Reminiscent of the soup and meat from the soup dumpling. Absolutely exquisite! You can tell the chef and cooks at this restaurant are on another level when it comes to Chinese cooking techniques. Quite possibly the best Chinese restaurant in Texas!
