Great dine in for breakfast, or lunch. The customer service is impeccable. The waitresses are timely and respectful. The food was good, cooked just right. Overall a unique atmosphere for friends to meet or families. A clean and pleasurable experience.

Google
So very disappointed. Came in for breakfast on a Sunday and it was a super cute hole in the wall breakfast diner feel! However... The food was about as bad as it could be. I ordered the chopped steak and eggs... I don't know why she asked how I wanted it cooked because what I got was a burger patty. It wasn't bad enough that it was an overcooked frozen burger patty .. it was totally bland/unseasoned. The home fries were the worst I think I've ever had to be honest... Also completely unseasoned and chopped to different sizes so as to overcook some and be mushy. The biscuit was clealy a frozen one as well and barely a biscuit in that it didn't have buttery/flaky layers and was more of a roll. The eggs were actually okay. These spots you kinda expect a certain level of friendly charm in the service, and it was just not. Not bad service, just not a friendly, local vibe. With the prices matching all the more trendy/hip breakfast spots ... This place is definitely NOT worth the money

Google
Oh my gosh. This is the best breakfast brunch place in Dallas! Every time I come here to visit my sister from California I stop here for breakfast. You cannot come to Dallas/Plano and not eat here. Best service, best food. Best coffee. Long lines waiting but it’s definitely worth it.

Mauricio Romero F.

Google
Great food and service. Basic ambiance, but who needs a fancy place for breakfast that overcharges.

Dawn G.

Google
ABSOLUTELY LOVE THIS PLACE. When traveling to visit family in TX, we ALWAYS have to stop in here atleast once. Maybe even 2-3 times. The staff is wonderful. The place is always clean. The food is delicious and very plentiful. Love their homemade biscuits.

Kelli R.

Google
First of all I loved that their hasbrowns came out crispy without having to ask!! Weird thst hashbrowns aren't on their menu, only "home fries" but maybe that's what they call them? I've never seen gravy used for eggs Benedict so that was different and not what I was wanting. The ham was really juicy though. I never got a refill on my coffee. I'll be back to try a different breakfast menu item and give them another go.

Google
I always end up here when craving waffles or pancakes and get their waffle and chicken tenders quite often when visiting. Very nice atmosphere and a big menu serving lunch and breakfast items! The waitresses are very attentive and nice, the wait time for food seems to be quick everytime I go.

Google
We love Poor Richard's Cafe. My husband has eaten here several times, so this time. I decided to go because he bragged on it so much!!! And so when we got there, and it was awesome !!!! We had a great host who seated us, a beautiful and friendly waitress who gave us awesome service and was very attentive. We received the most delicious food within about 10-15 minutes. Everything was beautifully eye desirable 😋 The place is beautifully decorated with American style decor and a place where veterans can feel right at home. My husband is a vet, so it felt very special to us.On our way out, to pay, we meet another friendly and kind cashier!!!! Thank you, Poor Richard, for a great meal and a comfortable place to feel at home!!!! Mardianne and Barry

Yelp
One of the best local spots for some breakfast in Plano! I've been coming here for years now and I love the general atmosphere and vibe of this place. It feels comfortable and familiar, and it helps so much that the staff is so sweet and treats you like family. The food is great, and that's really all there is to it. It's not a mind-blowing Michelin Star meal (no disrespect of course), but I have never had a bad meal here since the day I first started going. They have such a wide variety of food, and they do lunch as well! The only thing I would change is the price, over time their prices have increased on a lot of menu items, which is understandable but hurts my wallet afterwards lol. Don't get me wrong, still a lovely experience though, and it won't stop me from coming here. I get the same thing everytime, The Breakfast Quesadilla with bacon and a side of French fries that are covered in this addicting seasoning (don't worry, every table comes with a shaker of this stuff, it's so good) If you're ever in the mood for a hot meal, some lovely people, and a cup of great coffee, please support this restaurant!!

Yelp
Good job They have a lot of experience in what they do, I recommend them. lights, outlets, chandelier breakers, and other electrical work

Yelp
Old school American diner. Flags and Americana are everywhere! Wait staff works as a team and are so nice! The portions of food are large and the coffee never stops!
google avatar

Terri J.

Yelp
This is a no frills old school breakfast Mecca located in East Plano. There's nothing special - it's just good food, great service and strong coffee. Regulars take up a lot of seats and the chicken fried steak is so good. Come by!

Yelp
We walked in to a very cool cafe diner style vibe, very busy on a Sunday brunch visit. Greeted with a smile & seated pretty quickly. Waitresses were very attentive the entire visit. I've heard of this place for years, decided to stop in. Was not disappointed and will return for sure. I went with French toast, bacon, scrambled eggs, side of hash browns, my lady went with pecan waffles, country potatoes and sausage patties, fresh hot coffee all around. Food was fresh and hot, hash browns could have been cooked just a bit longer, my lady was not very pleased with sausage patties. We'll be back and enjoy another visit. If you've heard of Poor Richard's Cafe and haven't stopped in yet. Don't hesitate like I did. True diamond in the rough. Enjoy, stay safe

Yelp
Solid classic American diner food! Service was also pretty good and it just feels like a standard classic breakfast spot inside.

Yelp
Have not been here in years Tiki Hubby and I shared the Texas Breakfast was delicious and so much food. Large CFS fresh and crispy outside with tender meat. 3 eggs scrambled fluffy and good hashbrowns and a pancake. So much food all yummy.

Yelp
Every time I have ever come to this restaurant, it has always been packed. Now it has been a couple of years since I have been just due to time getting away from me. So let's start with the good, it was Sunday afternoon a little after 11 and we were able to get a seat right away even though it was quite busy. The original waitress took our drink order and brought out our drinks fairly quickly. To be frank, she wasn't very friendly, barely spoke to us and she didn't smile once. And then we waited and waited for our order to be taken. Finally, another waitress came up and took our order and apparently she was our actual waitress. The food didn't seem to take quite as long, but I was very disappointed. I ordered the pecan waffle meal without eggs. The pecan waffle and the home fries were homemade and delicious. I had also ordered sausage patties and I was given those large frozen patties that you can buy at Walmart. I don't like paying for something that comes from the frozen food section. One of my companions for brunch ordered chicken tenders and again received something that was from the frozen food section at Walmart. Overall, the food is decent just know that you're going to get some things that are more homemade and some things that you buy in the frozen foods. The second waitress was very friendly and courteous. Overall, we were happy with our meal. I just think for the price point it could use some improvements.

Yelp
You just can't go wrong at Poor Richards! The food is amazing and they have a variety of selections plus the staff are just beyond kind in every way. My favorites are the Mushroom Omelet, Cheeseburger, the Shrimp on the bed of rice and I can really go on and on.
google avatar

Yelp
Delicious Eggs Benedict! Wonderful service in a classic cafe atmosphere that takes you back to a simpler time in a once small town. Plano has exploded but somehow Poor Richard's has kept its charm.
google avatar

Helen E.

Yelp
Met friends for brunch and some enjoyed breakfast and some had lunch. Many ordered the gingerbread pancakes and added pecans and loved them. I was happy to find a naked burger which was tasty and filling and did not raise my blood sugar. Good service and not loud or too crowded though there were lots of people. It was good. Go there
google avatar

Bruce M.

Yelp
This was a favorite of my long time friend and I could see why, the menu was home style and good sized portions, clean restrooms and pleasant servers made this lunchtime meal a good one.
google avatar

Yelp
Where do I start. The good.. serving sizes were large, food tasted good. We had a party of six. The wait staff did respond to our needs promptly. Now the bad.. first of all there was a hair on the side of my plate. I didn't complain because it didn't touch my food or the portion of my plate that had food. Next I ordered Kayla's shrimp & grits. The grits were lukewarm. Didn't even melt my butter. The waitress did take my shrimp and grits and apparently microwaved it because it was definitely the same order that I had taken a bite of. It tasted fine, I'm just not a fan of microwaved food. Especially when I'm paying almost $15 for the plate Speaking of butter, I requested real butter instead of margarine, which was not a problem, but the butter was so cold. It wouldn't smear on my biscuit, which were not hot either. Even the gravy that came with the biscuits was not hot. Lukewarm. My husband ordered a chili omelette and he asked for jalapeños to be added. They did not add the jalapeños. When he asked for jalapeños to be added again, they just brought him a little container with some COLD jalapeños. He also requested that his hashbrowns be made crispy. They did not at all. We had invited family to come eat with us. Next time we will definitely not be choosing Poor Richard's!

Yelp
ZERO STARS FOR SERVICE It was non existent except to take my order. The demographic is literally 60 PLUS! Which, no issues but even THEY had no good customer service minus the regulars. As you know, I usually don't care if the service is garbage when the food is good! Let me tell you, that chicken fried steak was DELICIOUS! It was actually real chicken, pounded down with a light crust and some yummy gravy on top! Normally you get that thick crust with mystery meat! Nope, not this one, you knew it was FRESH AND HOME MADE! Everything else, skip. Biscuits looked great and home made as well.
google avatar

Sum W.

Yelp
Cold eggs and poor service. The waitresses stay near the food window and chat instead of checking on customers. Scrambled eggs with cheese came out cold when I asked them to heat it up and they brought me a new plate in one minute. I asked why so quickly and I noticed they weren't in my eggs and she said that they already have them premade. Personally, I think that's gross. 3 stars because the French toast was good.

Yelp
Excellent cafe for breakfast and lunch. Very fast service, and large portions. The chicken fried steak breakfast is probably one of my favorites. You won't find a better breakfast dinervin this area for the money and flavor.
google avatar

Yelp
Modern Diner with a touch of classic nostalgia. GREAT Breakfast and Lunch Offerings and not just sandwiches. Large plates size. Wait staff is friendly, attentive, and knowlegable.

Yelp
I've been a customer since 1973. Excellent recipes for home cooking. Ample servings of food . Current owner has done all she can to build back the business. Overall she gets good marks. One area of weakness is from the lack of waitresses and the prolonged wait to even place the order. The food is prepared fresh for each order and quality takes time. Improvement in additional help will speed things up . The line moves well and the meal is worth waiting for.

James W.

Yelp
Food was fastastic. Service very mediocre. Advice - avoid Sunday lunch. Not enough staff to handle volume. Breakfast service very very good.

Pat N.

Yelp
The food and the service is always excellent. Old fashioned menu with foods you can not find at other restaurants such as Liver and onions and also meatloaf.

Aileen G.

Yelp
Horrible! There was a 35 min wait on a small order. Once I came in a still had to wait for an extra 25 mins. I used to come here often growing up and sadly it's just not the same...
google avatar

Chase J.

Yelp
Ok so the food was good and the service was great! The lady we had serving us was super nice and the pancakes were good, and their BISCUITS???!!! to die for totally recommend to people in the Dallas area!

David B.

Yelp
Food was OK, nothing great. Omelette was undercooked and runny inside; they fixed it. Granddaughters pancake was very good. This place used to wonderful and always packed. Not anymore. Service was great
google avatar

Toriii F.

Yelp
I'm infatuated with their egg Benedict's it's the one item I can never get tired of. The service is very polite and quick and always ready to go. There is always plenty of seating and even when having to wait for a spot it only minutes to wait rather than a longer timing. It's completely organized and family oriented. As it's the first diner I've beeb to since I came to Texas!
google avatar

Amanda L.

Yelp
The menu is very intimidating because there is a lot of options. I got the pecan waffle with sausage that game with seasoned potatoes and my boyfriend got the chopped steak breakfast with hash browns and pancake. The pancake and waffle was really yummy and not dry at all. I think I preferred the pancake over the waffle though. The sausage was not my favorite, I would probably op for bacon next time if I went because the sausage was very salty. My boyfriend said his chopped steak has very little flavor. Everything else was okay. Very big place though; way bigger interior than what it looks like from the outside. Service was good , very fast for a sunday morning.
google avatar

Chris G.

Yelp
There are many breakfast spots in and around Plano, but I find myself returning to Poor Richard's most often. The food is always consistent and the service is fast and friendly. As far as the ambiance goes, it's nice to see them decorate for all of the holidays. Lots of tables and booths and the wait is never more than a few minutes. I highly recommend this place!
google avatar

Zabby D.

Yelp
The food is delish. The waffles are the absolute best ever! The food is sooo good there's a line out the door every weekend. Knocked a star off for fake butter and no maple syrup. This girl don't do margarine and colored corn syrup. Other than that, this is a staple cafe in Plano.

Sam R.

Yelp
I have been going to poor Richard's for years and the atmosphere had been very pleasant, cozy and welcoming. But just a few years ago they introduced a white, older woman hostess who always looks angry or miserable. She never smiles, never says one word to you, but simply holds her fingers up of how many people and then just motions with her fingers to follow her, throwing menus on the table and leaves. She is very unapproachable, rude and walks around like she cannot be bothered. Not sure how or why they would want someone like that to be the first person you want to meet at the door. The food was all wrong and cold by the time we got it. When politely asked to get a fresh, warm plate, it was frowned upon. If under new management, ownership or something, and the greeter or hostess is a part of it, it's no wonder the place is no longer the welcoming place it used to be.
google avatar

Mel K.

Yelp
I have been there a number of times. Food is always hot and fresh, comes out quickly. Service is great most of the time. Great atmosphere. The server I had last time embarrassed me. She wasn't rude but she wasn't friendly either. She also made a comment about how much I ate. That was embarrassing. It was the shrimp grits with toast and eggs. I ate the toast, about half the eggs and about 2/3 of the grits. She said it was a big meal and I ate a lot. I will go back but I don't want her as a server again.
google avatar

Lizzie G.

Yelp
Good restaurant with quick and friendly service. Line forms for tables and moves pretty quickly! Good coffee! Food was good but migas had no spice to them, I'll have to add jalapeños next time. My biggest grievance is the menu is a chaotic cluster and poorly laid out / confusing. Instead of specifying sides they say "most" breakfasts come with fixin's options but it's entirely unclear which ones when looking at the menu. I'd go back but I wish they would rework their menu so I know what I'm ordering without starting a game of 20 questions.

Byron M.

Yelp
Food was hot and excellent. Service was great, my coffee and water glass were never half full.
google avatar

Dawn W.

Yelp
A silent gem in Plano. I wasn't ready for the amazing home cooked(close enough) food. The service was great. Not a long wait so that was convenient. Will be back with my family.
google avatar

J. W.

Yelp
Best breakfast ever!!! They want 85 characters but seriously nit needed. The best hash browns I've ever had

M D.

Yelp
I had pancakes, sausage and eggs. Pancakes were dry, sausage was precooked and frozen product. Eggs were okay. I would have had a better breakfast at McDonald's at half the price. Poor Richard
google avatar

Dylan O.

Yelp
Pretty good food, and good service. The ambience is that of a nursing home but that's not what you go to poor Richard's for. It is a great place for a nice hearty breakfast that doesn't break the bank. (Awesome hangover breakfast spot IMO)
google avatar

Priscilla H.

Yelp
Went here for breakfast and couldn't resist ordering the chicken fried steak and eggs! Boy was this the a good choice!.....The chicken fried steak was perfect! Very filling . Took the biscuit home because I was so full. Ate them as a snack later, and they were delicious. Would eat that chicken fried steak for lunch or dinner anytime. Definitely recommend

James D.

Yelp
l was looking forward to eating lunch at Poor Richard's. when our office was nearby, I used to eat there several times a month. our office moved away and recently moved back so I headed there for lunch. Big mistake. the CFS which used to be real meat is not 1/4" thick, tough and has the flavor of a shoe. it has been no where near beef. the mashed potatoes tasted just like the box they came out of, they used to serve real potatoes. the only thing good worth mentioning wa the Black eyed peas. needless to say, this is the last time here. Review written while trying to choke down this high priced meal.
google avatar

Diana D.

Yelp
I absolutely loved this place! It's a good ole dinner, nothing fancy but the food and service are amazing!!! Staff was very personable yet professional and very prompt, they took very good care of us! I got a Patty melt, probably the best I've ever had. The space is very clean and spacious. We went on a Saturday morning around 11am and got seated immediately. Definitely recommend and definitely want to go back!
google avatar

Jj B.

Yelp
my all time favorite chicken fried steak, they dont do it like here anywhere else, get it with home fries!
google avatar

Carmen H.

Yelp
How does this restaurant have 4 stars??? Ate here today for lunch, ordered the Combo Eggs Benedict and my friend ordered eggs over easy with bacon and hashbrowns. Boy, the only thing we enjoyed about our lunch were her crispy hash browns. My friend's eggs were over hard, and her bacon was burnt. I am a true lover of eggs Benedict but this was the worst I've ever eaten. The hollandaise sauce was a gloopy salty yuck, my English muffin was soggy, and the potatoes that were served with it were called potato fries and they were not fries... But undercooked yuck! Service was slow & meh. It's pretty hard to mess up breakfast but PR's did. Don't bother eating here unless you don't have any taste buds!
google avatar

Michael H.

Yelp
Good food, excellent service and had a great time there. And plan on going back on a regular basis.
google avatar

Jeff R.

Yelp
Very fast service and food was great. Had the ham and eggs, pancakes and all was very good.. Give it a try and very fast no wait on a Sunday AM

Yelp
So I've been here three times now and just got around to writing a review. If you haven't been here yet then you're doing yourself a disservice. This is the definition of "at home" cooking. It's a local spot with plenty of options to feed the whole family and friends. Their service is outstanding and their food is just as great. You can see all different kinds of people here enjoying their food and socializing with their friends. It's a place frequented by locals so you know when all the locals go then you know it's good. On my most recent visit I decided to try out the Big Tex Breakfast. I wasn't readyyyyy! The size of the Chicken Fried Steak was as big as the plate which is a good 12" round plate. Then on top of it you can get eggs, hash browns, and a pancake. I'm a huge eater and love my food but honestly I couldn't finish it all. If you get this be prepared to meet your food intake limit. This is definitely a great go-to spot when you just don't know what you want to eat. Give them a shot when you're around the area!
google avatar

Ranger R.

Yelp
It IS possible to get soggy, cold, BURNT French Toast. This place serves it up on a dirty, sticky table with no eating utensils. The chair seats were greasy and dirty and we had to wipe them before we could sit down. A female employee working the front door on Saturday morning stood around doing absolutely nothing while three empty tables nearby her were filthy. She didn't seem to notice and she even sat a party of five at one of the dirty tables near us and we heard them ask her to clean it first. Her response was you want me to seat you somewhere else? Yes please, anywhere OUT of this restaurant.
google avatar

Joanie G.

Yelp
This review is long over due! Once we read their reviews, we've enjoyed eating here a number of times. It has become our "go to" breakfast place. When you first walk in and see, what looks like a full restaurant and stress, the hostess always manages to find you a table. So, your experience begins with positivity. All of their staff is amazing, always polite, cheerful and timely. Shortly after being seated, the "drink" staff will ask you what you'd like to drink and minutes later, you'll have a fresh cup of hot coffee in front of you. They spend the rest of your time there, making sure your coffee cup stays full and hot. Not too long after drinks are served, one of their amazing waitresses comes along and takes your order. Maybe 5-10 minutes later, your hot fresh breakfast is brought to the table by an awesome server. Their food is always sent out exactly like it was ordered (knock on wood), "gravy on the side please, "can I have hash browns instead of fried potatoes", "can I have the King's breakfast, even though it's the weekend", I could go on. My kids always tell me that when restaurant folks are in training, they should be required to take my order and serve before passing any waitress/server tests Followed by, "ok Princess" Well... I generally have your standard breakfast of eggs, bacon, hash browns, toast w jam and a couple of cups of coffee with 5 or 6 creamers, YUM. My Spouse basically ordered the same breakfast, with scrambled eggs and grits. I like my eggs over easy, I've never been served a broken over easy egg, bacon is perfection, always crispy, hash browns are just right, not too soft but not too crispy and toast is always served already buttered. Gotta have toast to sop up those yummy egg yolks! So if you're ever in Plano and are hungry for breakfast, Poor Richard's is your restaurant. Oh! and bonus, if you sleep in, it's okay. Because they serve breakfast up until 2:30pm, when they close,

Tristan S.

Yelp
Tasty, big serving, and quick service! Will come back again soon. Unique menu but I went for the classic of chicken n waffles!

Marianne C.

Yelp
I've been here twice, the first time was even before all the news about the owner broke out. I remember having their chicken fried steak, unlimited coffee refills and a very pleasant service. News broke and I thought I wouldn't ever come back here again but here I am 10+ years later. The news has died down and the establishment was saved by their long time employee. Newly painted walls ( I believe it was white, it's red now) same old seating arrangements (booths and tables) and same pleasant service. Don't fret if there's a line, it will move quickly. This time around I ordered their Saturday special which was the Smothered Steak + sides ($8.99) and a must have coffee. For that price, don't expect the steak to be more than an inch thick! It may be thin but packed full of flavor and the gravy on top just gives it more punch. From what i observed, they have a staff member who will go around at least every 5 minutes with a fresh pot of hot coffee to make sure you are not left with an empty mug. Service is always exceptional even with all the chaos of breakfast rush and the upcoming lunch time. Everybody was pleasant and smiling. Who wouldn't with that fresh coffee aroma?! Even with cramping calves and toes from 15k that morning didn't deter me from striking a conversation from the people next to me.

Yelp
We left here very full, and very happy. We were so happy to have found this place. Everything was delicious here and tasted like it was made with care and good ingredients. Best breakfast we have had in a very long time! BF got the steak and eggs and I had the country fried steak. So so yummy. We will be back!
google avatar

Holly N.

Yelp
Don't be fooled by the pictures! It wasnt as good as it looks. My BF and I were a little bit disappointed because this place claims to have the best chicken fried steak. It wasn't the best I've had. Big Tex breakfast (3/5) if you have a craving for chicken fried streak, this will def rid of your craving because it was the BIGGEST chicken fried steak ever. The gravy was good but the chicken fried steak was a bit dry to me. It wasn't as juicy as I'd like it to be. And the batter wasn't all that great. I've had better CFS that was juicier and more flavor. I will give it starts for how huge it was. THIS ENTRE IS SHAREABLE!! I recommend sharing it. It comes with your choice of eggs, potatoes and a toast or pancake. I asked for a side of extra crispy hashbrowns but it wasn't crispy enough for me. Service (4/5) everyone was really really nice but it did seem a little bit disorganized because two people came by our tables and asked us the same questions twice. I guess the tables aren't split into sections. Kinda confusing
