The 38 Best Restaurants in Seoul, South Korea | Eater

"At Hannamdong Hanbang Tongdak, 30-day-old chickens are marinated in a broth of Korean medicinal herbs (licorice, cinnamon, etc.) and slowly roasted over a wood fire rotisserie-style. The result is crispy, sweet skin encasing meat that is juicy and seasoned to the core. The chickens are a little small (so order one per person), but they’re quite substantial, stuffed with glutinous rice, garlic, jujube, and ginkgo. Try topping yours off with a piece of kimchi to cut through the hefty flavors and pair it with a draft beer. Know before you go: Go around 5 p.m., when the restaurant opens on weekdays, to avoid the multi-hour wait that builds up later in the evening." - Matty Kim

What a casual neighborhood rotisserie chicken place. Run by young oppas, you can’t miss it with the bbq going on outside. We had to queue a little but it was ok! They were very friendly and you can watch the chickens cook as you wait. Nothing beats beer and good roast chicken. The skin was crispy and the meat was succulent. You can dip in either salt, chilli sauce or honey mustard. We loved the glutinous rice that cooked perfectly too. One of the best chooks ever. Will be back for sure!

Very good roasted chicken cooked low and slow with what I believe is wood fire. The skin of the chicken was crispy and caramelised. The whole chicken was moist , even the chicken breast was moist. Inside the chicken was stuffed glutinous rice with ginseng , red dates and some herbs. Very very good. If you like samgeytang, I think you will enjoy this too. We only tried the original / traditional chicken as there were only two of us and we wanted a light dinner. We saw other tables eating other dishes and they did look very delicious. We waited for our table for 1 hour and I must say it’s worth the wait. Just leave your name / number on their waitlist and go for a walk around the area. You will be rewarded with a very good meal if you have patience.

Chicken was great. I’d order the original. I mean it’s not dry, the skin is perfectly crispy, and it tastes better than most fried chicken. They give you two sauces, but the chicken tastes good on its on own or with just the rice. The rice inside is sticky, flavorful, and feels like a warm hug. It’s served hot within minutes of you sitting down. 100% would recommend this spot. It feels very local despite being so popular if that makes sense.

Did we wait 1.5 hours? Yes. Did we end up having dinner at 11pm on Friday night? Yes. Was it worth it? YES. The vibes were immaculate. The chicken was perfection. The kimchi was godly. The guys running the place were welcoming and friendly. We got a drink at a bar around the corner while waiting so we didn't mind. I was a bit intimidated as a foreigner walking up to the place and trying to figure out how to put my name down. But that all went away with how friendly and jovial they were. You can tell people there (all locals) were having a good time. Thanks for welcoming us :)

They ask you only one question when you come in. How many chickens. There is no menu, there are no sides. Just gorgeous crispy succulent chicken stuffed with rice. It’s perfect. Yes you need to wait two hours. And once you see those chickens rotating and dripping on each other you can’t think of anything else. Put your name down and go for a couple of drinks nearby. Its worth it.

I picked up a roasted chicken today to enjoy at home, and it turned out to be one of the best I’ve ever had. The skin was perfectly crisped, the meat juicy and full of flavor — truly a standout among all the roast chickens I’ve tried. What made it even better were the accompanying sauces and the 유자소금 (yuzu salt), which added a refreshing citrusy kick that paired beautifully with the savory chicken. It was such a satisfying meal, simple yet exceptional in taste. Definitely a repeat-worthy takeout!

Lovely experience, amazing service and delicious chicken. If I was local, I’d be there once a week. Thank you.

First, you are seduced by the rotisserie outside the shop and the aromas wafting into the street. How can you refuse to try?? 21k Won for a roast chicken paired with kimchi and radish. The chicken is stuffed with glutinous rice. Roasted so it’s still juicy, with the chicken flavours shaping into the rice. Ours was a tiny bit dry, but didn’t ruin the experience. 100% worth it.
