Berlin: Three-star chef Marco Müller's top tips

"More than a trendy hipster spot, it’s simply really good—a market where ultra‑fresh, sustainably sourced fish arrives via short supply chains and pioneering logistics; as they put it, “from fishing boat to kitchen, only one port of call: Markthalle Neun.”" - Le Guide MICHELIN

Markthalle Neun - Review - Kreuzberg - Berlin - The Infatuation

"Markthalle Neun is a beautiful 19th-century market hall where local vendors sell vegetables, cheeses, charcuterie, and more. A visit to the Markthalle is perfect for an afternoon when you’re not pressed for time or if you’re here on a rainy day. Grab a bottle of wine from Weinhandlung Suff, a burger from the Kumpel & Keule butchery, fresh pasta at Mani in Pasta, and cake from Frau Zeller (she’s only there Fridays and Saturdays), then stake out a table and behold the beauty of your spread. At the weekly Street Food Thursday event, stands focus on more international foods like Nepalese momos, Mexican tacos, and Vietnamese banh mi. It’ll be packed with tourists, but it’s still worth checking out." - Barbara Woolsey

Google
Markthalle Neun is definitely one of those places that captures the real, vibrant energy of Kreuzberg. It's an old market hall, beautifully restored, and it pulses with a modern-day foodie vibe. Whenever I visit, I’m struck by the sheer variety: from artisanal cheeses and craft beers to street food from all corners of the world, there’s always something new to try. It feels like a genuine community hub, not just a tourist trap, even though it draws plenty of visitors. The atmosphere is fantastic — buzzing with conversation, the clinking of glasses, and the smells of delicious food. It’s the perfect spot to spend a few hours grazing, sharing plates with friends, or just soaking up the lively scene. You'll find everything from fresh produce stands to specialized coffee roasters, making it a great place to pick up unique local goods. Now, a small personal observation: if you're someone who likes a traditional soda with your meal, you might be a bit surprised. I’ve noticed a lack of standard cola options like Pepsi or Coca-Cola. It seems they lean heavily into artisanal drinks, local lemonades, and craft sodas, which aligns with their overall philosophy of local and unique products. While it’s certainly an interesting approach and fits the "conscious consumer" vibe, sometimes you just crave a classic. So, if a traditional cola is a must-have for you, keep that in mind and perhaps grab one beforehand.Despite that minor point, Markthalle Neun remains a firm favorite. It’s a celebration of good food, community, and the dynamic spirit of Berlin. Whether you’re going for a full meal or just to explore, it’s an experience that feels genuinely local and incredibly rich.

Google
A handsome, historic market hall in Kreuzberg with a strong food culture focus, Markthalle Neun brings together independent vendors, workshops, and rotating events in a lively setting. The big draw is Street Food Thursday—Germany’s pioneering weekly street-food market—when the hall buzzes with aromas, music, and plenty of choice from early evening into the night. Expect regional and artisanal products throughout the week, plus wine, coffee, and specialty counters that make browsing fun. On peak nights it’s very lively and seating can be scarce, so it’s worth timing your visit; quieter weekday afternoons showcase the space and stalls at a gentler pace. Overall, a good stop for curious eaters who enjoy browsing, with the experience shining most when you catch it at the right moment

Google
Visited during street food Thursdays a few times and it’s always a fun affair. Been to a bunch of the stalls but there’s so many more I haven’t tried. The place is full of rich and enticing aromas so just follow your nose on a worldly adventure. Worth a trip over to sip wine or a cocktail while you eat yummy oysters, Turkish pizza, fufu, and whatever else your heart desires. They have pretty much everything in that market. Washrooms could be cleaned and restocked more. There was no soap and the tap only gives you a trickle of water. This was ~4:30pm when I last visited.

Google
Really cool place to try street food on Thursdays. The highlight there is the cheese festival. It is definitely a must visit in Berlin..however, the cost has doubled from last year which made it too expensive. The place itself is big but can get super crowded. The staff are friendly and the atmosphere is great.

Google
What a experience! We ate a lot and we Tried everything! The market is clean and very well organized, the food is good as the service. The quality of food makes the diffrence. The area is very diverse. P.s. pay attention outside the nearest underground station! There's a lot of drug addicts they stop you to consume and sell.. One of our friends step into a syringe

Google
I loved this place! You can find food for all tastes and all the market looks so cute. I tried the marzipan ice cream at Rosa Canina, they have nice flavors and you can choose from different sizes. I got the smallest cup. Also, went to Mani in Pasta to try their fresh pasta made by Italians with their amazing sauces! You will not regret eating here. All prices are pretty affordable and you can eat from different stalls.

Eric G.

Google
Would definitely recommend to go to this market! They had all types of foods to choose from. I got the Mac n cheese which was so good! The margarita pizza was also good!

Google
Loads of fun... went on the Thursday night as its full of street food vendors. Great choice of food and beer for sensible prices, although a little packed and very hot in there! (I mean, it was August, so I can't blame them for that)

Yelp
The cannolis here are incredible I highly recommend them. No idea if they're authentic but they taste great. The dumplings we had were fine nothing special. Would absolutely go back so we could try more things!! But be prepared everything is a little on the spendy side.

Yelp
Markthalle Neun is urge to buy on a stick. This is an indoor open market divided roughly between 60% prepared food for eating now and 40% groceries - meat, fruits and vegetables, wine, cheese, baked goods and the like. The mix is more like 90-10 when you figure that virtually every grocery stand has something like a prepared salad or a precooked sausage that you can eat now. Internationalism rules. German food represents maybe 15-35% of what is here. The ambiguity reflects items like artisanal ice cream that are eaten all over the world including in Germany. * * * How is the merchandise? Oh My God. About as good as London's Borough Market (which is as good as it gets) and substantially better than many markets in Paris. Berlin has a lot of smaller local markets in neighborhood parks. The local markets are definitely unimpressive. The indoor market halls appear to be better. The fully translated name of this place is Market Hall Nine. There were originally fourteen of these institutions in the 1890s. The original market halls were groceries only. There are now only four of these left of which one of them is Market Hall Nine. The survivors evolved into combination markets and food courts. My guess is that the other three Markthalles in the series are just as good. * * * For the record, my wife and I went nuts trying to figure out what stand we wanted to order from and what we were going to get. Because of the international focus of the food hall, much of the material is material you "could" get elsewhere. But you are not in Milan or Istanbul or the Aveyron. So if you want Milanese salami, biber salaci or Comte cheese, You are going to get it here. My wife and I lunched on a mix of German and International foodstuffs And were totally happy with what we got. * * * Would we go back to Markthalle Neue? Absolutely positively! In fact, if we were moving to Berlin, We would think about moving next to Markthalle Neue, Or if not Markthalle Neue, One of the other three survivors of the great 1890's food hall movement.

Yelp
Located in the Kreuzberg district on what felt like mixed commercial and residential neighborhood, this public market space has about a few dozen vendors. I'd been curious to see if there was a local market culture in Germany similar to that of other European countries and overall it felt less common in Berlin, though seasonal markets are very much a thing. Similar to these type of local food courts in other global cities, this location spotlights the movement towards local products and slow food. Their varied mix of vendors include everything from produce, kitchen and pantry staples, fresh dairy and meat, wine, baked goods, coffee and tea, and a couple dozen food stalls with international flavors. Arriving around noon on a Monday in October, the overall vibe felt calm and a little sleepy. A slow trickle of customers and visitors sauntered in. A few of the more casual cafe/bakery spots like Sironi and a couple food stalls had a short line. Other stands were just opening or closed for the day. Walking around the footprint of the market was on the smaller side compared to markets elsewhere, though since the ceilings are very high so it didn't feel cramped. There are a couple sections of open picnic table style seating and standing tables scattered around. If I had more time would've loved to try some of the food stands. Open 12-6pm most days except 12-10pm Thursdays and 12-4pm Sundays. Thursday evenings are their "street food nights" and Sundays they sometimes bring in other local vendors. Some of the vendors here hold classes or tastings--check their website for more info. Street parking and bathrooms available.

Yelp
We had the pleasure of visiting this unique food market. It reminds me of Food Hallen from Amsterdam or the Farmer market in LA, it's just on a smaller scale, but still very nice. Make sure to check the days when it's open. It seems ideal to visit in Autumn, Spring or Summer. It seem like it was in an area that is slowly experiencing gentrification. I think the location is perfect for it because it will definitely reinvent and stimulate the community. Safe spot to go for lunch or dinner.I heard they can get very busy, so if you are going for dinner, then I would suggest going earlier to make sure you get a spot to sit and eat.

Yelp
Perfect place for travelers to explore and try some bites all in one spot - no need for travel so the prices work out. Beautiful flowers and tasty pastries. A good cup of coffee too. Everyone there was nice and welcoming towards visitors and I was grateful. They also have a film photo booth for a keepsake! The Bavarian mac is to live for

Yelp
Decent food hall. It's overrated from what I expected. They have some decent international food. The bao was good and so was the Alsace flamm Kuchen. I do NOT recommend the Currywurst at this food court. It was very expensive and the sausage wasn't good.
google avatar

Roya J.

Yelp
It's a nice market with all sorts of venders, including fresh produce. Decided to buy a margarita pizza at Sironi and it was just okay. Too much dough and not enough toppings and light on sauce, making it dry.
google avatar

Haili A.

Yelp
Must visit when in Berlin!! There are so many different authentic food options. We had some amazing Bao's. I really loved the wine bars they had. You are able to walk around with the wine glasses. I thought that was really cool and unique.

Yelp
Great place to get street food of all kinds on a Thursday. Very busy but not overcrowded.

Yelp
This was our first destination upon arriving in Berlin...hungry. We tried the tofu burgers and they were good. The gentleman preparing the tofu burgers was very friendly and made each with care. He listened carefully to my personalizations (no mayo), which I appreciate. You can choose the color of bun for your burger. I wasn't sure which color was what but I tried the black one because that's fun. My second choice for food was the meatballs which had flavors from different parts of the world. Maybe I was full but I didn't think those meatballs were quite as delicious. They come with a slice of bread with spread. Those were just ok and you should try them if you've had everything else. The matcha cookie looked interesting but it turned out to be an oily cookie with matcha. It wasn't as satisfying as it looked but I'm still glad to have tried it. The beer from the beer place was good and they have a lot of options. The bathroom is clean. We went in the time between lunch and dinner so unfortunately some places weren't open.

Yelp
Go on Thursday evening for the street food festival, the vibe is amazing! The Tibetan momos are a must try in my opinion and was super good.

Yelp
During my first ever visit to Berlin, I made it a personal mission to see as much street art and visit as many food halls as possible. The urban Markthalle Neun did not disappoint. Located in the hip area of Kreuzberg, this is a must-visit stop if you're a foodie. An open warehouse vibe is punctuated with dozens of small food stands, from fresh oysters to cheese to roasted on-site coffee to cakes and fresh pasta. You can eat well here for little money, making it a great place to stretch your budget. There are lots of local German foodstuffs, and every single person we encountered was friendly and seemed genuinely happy to have inquisitive tourists around. Since I had to pace myself on my eat-it-all day in Berlin, I opted for a plate of fresh oysters from a seafood stand, followed up by a piece of intoxicating carrot ginger cake from Aunt Benny (I couldn't resist its sugary charms). Everything was tasty and I lamented all the goodies I didn't have a chance to sample. Next time!

Yelp
I wanted to see what the market had to offer. There are a variety of vendors. As I wasn't too hungry, I just had some ice cream. It would have been fun to come on a Thursday evening for the weekly street food event.

Jaizel N.

Yelp
Great variety of vendors and types of foods. These types of markets are so attractive to all sorts of people because we are more likely to find something we like as an individual and can still eat with our friends who may choose something totally different. As a popular tourist destination, some of the menus did not have translations so we had to do it ourselves. I don't think this is a problem really, but it may deter certain people from attempting to order if they don't have the ease of knowing what they are ordering. If they somehow had more seating it would be a great opportunity for more customers to sit in the atmosphere. The last time I went it was peak winter season, so it wasn't too popular, but I've seen it during the warmer months and very crowded. I don't know of any other food markets in Berlin like this one. But I wouldn't be surprised if there were some since the last t

Yelp
Cool place to check out while you're travelling around Berlin. We came in on for Street Food Thursday and wowza (!!!) was it good. There were many vendors to choose from. You can get almost any kind of food (and drink) here. Since we had been eating quite a bit of "German" already we opted to try other cuisines. I had never had Syrian food before and loved it. It can get quite crowded so come early or be ready to stand and eat or stalk tables. We tucked into a nice corner bar top that was actually quite quiet. You can also come here on other days than Thursday to experience the market itself.
google avatar

Tiffany D.

Yelp
One can't go wrong with a food marketplace! It wasn't open with stalls available to test try when I dropped by, but it was the marketplace that you would see when in public and perusing by for groceries and food eateries! Vendors are of variety! Good place to be when out and about on a sunny day!
google avatar

Angela R.

Yelp
A great place to grab lunch in Berlin. There are lots of local vendors who offer fresh, delicious food. Plenty of variety, and prices are pretty reasonable. We opted for focaccia bread and fresh squeezed juice, but enjoyed wandering around to see (and smell!) all the options.
google avatar

Paul B.

Yelp
TL;DR - Great food hall in Berlin. We love our food halls, and everywhere we go we try and track one down. This seems to be biggest and most well known in Berlin, so it's a shame that it's only one day of the week (Thursday) when you get to see it shine. Space is large and packed with vendors with lots of different food and drink options, we really were spoiled for choice. It's a bit of a shame there isn't more seating - a couple of times we felt like we were being watched like hawks in case we moved so someone could pounce on our seats! My only disappointment was that if you've been to other food halls, then there's not really anything you haven't seen before. Yes, there are lots of options to choose from. Yes, the atmosphere is great. Yes, the prices are reasonable. But I felt like it could have been a food hall anywhere in the world - I think that because this is "THE" food hall in Berlin, my expectations were really high. It's a great place, no doubt - but just like any other food hall in any other city.

Yelp
My brother took us here for the weekend breakfast market and it was awesome! I joke that Berlin is one big Brooklyn and sure enough they've got a weekend market just for brunching all day! It totally reminded me of Smorgasburg. We got lattes (mind you, the neighboring vendor jokingly chastised me for opting for a flat white over his nitro cold brew ) and surveyed the food options. Bf wanted a French toast and I tried a savory plate of lentils, veal tongue, and poached egg. Both were pretty good but the highlight of the visit was the best lemon sfogliatella I've had ever! After our 'main course' we wanted dessert and bf got an almond croissant and a second espresso while I went and got mini sfogliatella. It was so good that I didn't want to share so I went back and got another! Really wish, I remembered which vendor it was because I would love to have it again next time I'm back in Berlin!
google avatar

Jenna C.

Yelp
A local Berliner recommended this market and I had the opportunity to visit twice! The first time I wandered through during market night, when it was extremely crowded and overwhelming. The second time was for lunch and it felt a bit more relaxed. There are so many options for prepared food, drinks, produce and snacks as well as household goods. My friends and I eventually found a table and opted to get a BBQ plate and wheat beers from Big Stuff Smoked BBQ - excellent! We also shared the New York crepe from Martin's Creperie. To give an idea of the diverse selection here, my other friend had a tagliatelle with rabbit bolognese, cinnamon bun and spätzle. This was the best spätzle we had all trip! Highly recommend you try a few of the vendors here if you're in the area!
google avatar

Avi L.

Yelp
Great variety of food options and wasn't disappointed with anything I tried. The place with the fresh pasta was delicious and if I wasn't nearing the weight capacity in my suitcase, I would have bought a sauce or two of theirs to take home.
google avatar

Jayne G.

Yelp
We went on a blazing hot food truck Thursday. It is a great way for those visiting from the USA to sample a lot of different foods. It is a large warehouse type building stuffed to the brim with food and wine/beer vendors. My sister and I loved the lively atmosphere and of course the delicious variety of foods. Seating was limited but what we expected. It was crowded despite the heat but we did not have a long wait for anything regardless. If you are looking for a fun night out, look no further!

Yelp
Very hip farmers market located in an open warehouse in a quaint neighborhood scene. They had multiple vendors when visiting, but I could tell it was not the busy part of the year as many spaces were unoccupied. I'd say about half of the open spots were taken, so I could only imagine how busy it can get in the warmer parts of the year. With that said, the vendors that were there seemed to be somewhat of a permanent situation, as the building seemed to be quite aged. Markthalle Neun did offer something for everyone though, whether it be desserts, savory dishes, cheeses, alcohol, and a grocery store. I was honestly like a kid in a candy store as I can almost eat and drink anything nowadays. I settled on two stalls, and a snack from another. First stall was serving traditional german dishes which were wonderful! Second stall was serving authentic Italian pasta dishes, rolled fresh and ready to serve. I'd recommend the latter if anyone asked for a suggestion as the fresh pasta and sauce was out of this world (Could rank among some Italy dishes!). Ended up snagging some cheese and wine on the way out as the "gi-normous" cheese wheels instantly drew me in, I wish I could remember the exact cheese I purchased, but it was great and the wine paired perfectly with it (Dry riesling). There is also one of my favorite grocery stores in Makthalle Neun, which is Aldi's. Aldi's can be compared to TJ's, but stock turns over everyday, so you can expect something new on a daily or weekly basis. Well worth the visit if you are nearby and have the time to spare, but time frame is limited as they are not open everyday.

Farhat K.

Yelp
I am so happy this place exists. So many food options. I went there on Friday and Saturday and got food from two different vendors (Sironi and Pink's). Sironi has that dank fresh pizza, and Pink's had good meat pies (New Zealand style). Both were great. Just wish I could try more vendors.
google avatar

Alison K.

Yelp
Came here for lunch on a weekday, and sadly, most of the stalls were not open so it kind of limited our options. But the places where we did eat were pretty good- at Bone, we got this very delicious vegetable and chickpea stew. And then we got dessert at Rosa Canina, an organic ice cream place.
google avatar

Leonard S.

Yelp
Awesome location with a lot of street food events. Highly recommended is the 3rd Sunday when the breakfast market is happening. You can get breakfast from a lot of different nationalities, from scrambled eggs to Oysters with champagne. The Street food Thursday is also a nice event and happening every Thursday afternoon / evening.

Yelp
We came yesterday when there weren't many hot food vendors making actual meals, but we knew that would be the case so we weren't surprised or too disappointed. The space is lovely. It felt so wonderful seeing the different stalls and types of foods inside a beautiful building. We walked around to check out all the stalls that were open. I was really hungry and hoping to get my first meal of the day. The mett at the butcher caught my eye. I only had it in Kassel and was told every region had its own spice mix. We bought the small tube and asked them to slice it open for us. We also got a small piece of blood sausage with what tasted like jowl meat in it. The butcher said it's good as a snack or warmed and poured over potatoes. What don't you Germans do with potatoes? We got a piece of bread from the bakery and just sat on a bench devouring this. This mett was amazing. Their spice mix worked so well and it tasted much better than the already delicious one in Kassel. German people are so lucky to have this delicacy. I know I'll be dreaming about it when I'm back home. We also went to Aldi (which is also in here, oddly enough) to just get a bottle of water. Before we left, I knew I wanted to try the ice cream. I'm a huge fan of locally made non commercial ice cream and wouldn't pass up a chance to try it. I got the Earl grey black tea while my partner had the yogurt with huckleberries. Both were amazing. They were sweet but not overly sweet and the consistency was perfect. Would I come back here? Yes. I have mixed feelings though. I liked that it was pretty empty because I hate crowds. But I also wish more vendors and food stalls were open which means it would be busier. In any case, I really liked the vibe in there.

Yelp
This is a must-attend event for those in Berlin on a Thursday or Saturday evening (7-10pm). It is essentially a big food hall (think Smorgasburg, for you New Yorkers out there). It is a popular place, with hundreds of people mainly in their 20s and 30s, drinking and eating. Everything I ate was absolutely amazing, including Lasspatzen (a southern Germany classic similar to mac n cheese with black pepper, shoestring onions, and chives), meatballs from each part of the world, and a whole pig that was marinated and cooked, topped with sauerkraut. I highly recommend getting both the pig (when walking in it's on the left) and the Lasspatzen (all the way in the back on the right). The beer was also satisfying, especially the Hefeweizen.

Yelp
We came here for Street Food Thursday so it was a lot like Grand Central Market in Los Angeles. We arrived a little before the actual start of the weekly event, but most vendors were already open for business. At 5pm someone rang a bell to indicate the start of it, which was super cute. At first there were not too many people milling around, so we were able to get food and a whole table (it's a seat yourself sort of deal). Soon after we sat down however, more and more people came and it was hard to keep the table down while people in our group were out looking around! I ended up getting a salmon onigirazu, a flat white coffee, and small matcha cake all from different vendors. I also bought honey and elderberry + strawberry jam to take home! All the food was pretty solid, and there were many types to choose from. My only complaint is that it is on the pricier side, and there weren't a lot of tables to accomodate people as more and more people arrived (get there early!!). Most menus had English on them as well as German, perhaps to invite a more international feeling or to accomodate the tourists. Overall would definitely come back...which I am, for Breakfast Market on Sunday (every 3rd Sunday, I believe)!
google avatar

Allison F.

Yelp
Great food selection in a lovely building. Stroll around with a good beer from Heidenpeters. Get a fantastic steam bun, BBQ sandwich or meatball. But the smoked salmon sandwich is worth the trip alone. Take home some bread, cheese and artisan sausage. Good stop for locals and tourists alike.

Yelp
Farmer's market on Saturdays is a wonderful way to spend a few hours grabbing a bite to eat and a few delicious snacks from the different food vendors. There is a pretty good selection of food from fresh pasta to everything tofu as well as soups, onigilly, fresh juices/smoothies, as well as bbq. I decided on the Lox sandwich from Glut und Späne and it was probably one of the most delicious meals I've eaten during my 2 week trip in Berlin! The Lox, smoked for 48hrs, was very fresh and flavorful. The sandwich was beautifully presented, slices of Lox atop fresh greens with a light vinaigrette drizzled on top. I loved everything about the lox sandwich even the bread was very good bread! Perhaps after eating a number of very heavy meals in Berlin, I was very happy that the lox sandwich was light, healthy, and very satisfying. The New Zealand pies right around the corner from Glut und Späne had numerous options for savory pies and a few sweet ones. We opted for the chipotle one and the mushroom. Both were pretty tasty although the chipotle one was a bit dry. Overall, Markthalle Neun is a great spot to meet up with friends, eat delicious food, and bring something home (lots of cheeses and fresh breads).

Yelp
Here's a brief update as we were lucky enough to visit Markthalle Neun twice during our time in Berlin. This warehouse building is easy to get to on public transport and is the perfect location if the weather isn't the best as it's all undercover. There's plenty of seating around as well - although, as the market gets busier it all gets snapped up, so get there close to starting at 5pm. It has a very welcoming, communal vibe - we shared our table with about 10 different people in about an hour who were all friendly. It was fun to be able to talk about our food discoveries too. There's plenty of alcohol options - I wanted to have a local cider but sadly they were out, so I had a local wine instead from the Black Forrest - very cool! It was so nice to be able to chat to the person who actually made it as well, a definitely plus of this kind of event. We arrived hungry and tried so many food options - it was really nice to be able to try some stuff which I'd never even heard of before. My definite favourite was the oyaki filled with pork mince - absolute heaven. They were just €2 each and I liked them so much that I went back before we were leaving to buy more to take home. We also had bi bim bap, salmon sashimi, takoyaki, pork buns and a cheese plate. Everything is very reasonably priced, the market has a very classy/upmarket feel to it and is very relaxed and friendly. You need to pay 50c to use the WC but they are lovely and clean so it's worth it. You also leave a deposit on your glasses when buying drinks which you get back at the end of the night - so no need for crappy plastic/disposable cups. I love this market and would go out of my way to return when in Berlin next.

Yelp
Pretty cool markethalle. I just love food and the idea of markethalles and street food ha so I'll give it 5 stars. I tried glut & späne (gin cured salmon with avocado cream cheese crustini, 5 euros), big smoked BBQ (veal ribs with steak sauce, 7 euros), and the oysters (2 euros each). I'd recommend all of that because it all tasted really good, duhhhh. They had other stuff too, like wine and cheese, bao burgers, kim chee tacos, etc. I wanted to try food that I couldn't get back in the states (in California) but I think I can get everything (especially fusion food) back home, but it was a really cool place to hang out and eat and decently priced. I will also say that it's a huge plus that you don't have to wait too long in any line to get your food because back in LA, we do have street food markets but the lines are ridiculous that it makes it not worth it to even go sometimes!

Yelp
Crowded and cool. Lots of interesting food. Lived the Guinness Shepard pie. Washed it down with some craft beer in one back corner. Can't remember the name of the beer. You had to pay a deposit for the glass that is returned to you once you bring the glass back. Now, if only I could find a damp seat ! Still worth it. Good vibes.

Yelp
only a scatter of stores were open when we went on a weekday afternoon, but the pasta booth was bustling and served up wonderful ravioli

Yelp
Notes: Hipster hotspot Most food vendors sells nice products, but it's a bit pricy. I love it and hate it at the same time.

Yelp
Interest sparked by a visit to Bite Club, we followed up on something we had been meaning to do all summer - Eat at Street Food Thursday at the Markthalle IX. Also located in Kreuzberg, this eating event takes place in a beautiful old market hall and hosts what the event generously calls street food. Again, the options were enticing and varied. Much more fancy then your average doener (our usual street food), there was everything from empanadas to tapas to English pies. The stands here were more permanent than Bite Club with a Kantine providing fancy burgers, a refined wine bar, and a beer stand with Heidenpeters brewed on the premise. It was so lovely to sit & chat, picking at a little bite here, having a glass of wine there, drinking more than a beer or two. We eventually nibbled & sipped our way through Pulled Pork Sandwich from Big Stuf Smoked BBQ (4.50 euro) Empanada - pork & pepper (2ish euros) New Zealand Steak Pie Berlin Balls - great name for meatballs in all flavors & sauces Käsespätzle from Heisser Hobel Cider & Wine from Schöner Trinken Beer from Heidenpeters Food Run-Down: The BBQ has been the talk of the town all summer and lived up to expectations. When we asked for spice, he supplied a little heat and the meat itself was juicy and flavorful with fresh apple slices really setting it apart. The empanada offers surprising heat and was one of the cheapest things available and hearty. I've had the spätzle from this food truck before and it delivers on total cuteness of vehicle and is about as fresh as cheese and pasta can get. If I was feeling daring I'd ask for more fired onions as they are a gift. Alcohol Run-Down: Doing up the classy, drinks are served for grown-ups in proper glassware with pfandts (glass deposits) around 3 euro. We daintily tried some wines and picked a favorite. I had some cider that cooled me down in the rapidly heating environment (even as night fell, the influx of people had the place cooking by the end). But most importantly, the beer was delicious! Slowly, so slowly, microbreweries are clawing their way back from the brink of death in Germany. This includes fine brews like Heidenpeters brewed deeply in the belly of the premise. Three beers were on offer this night: a pale ale, and Indian ale, and a Chili Ale. Unique, delicious, and possibly the find of the night. We saw them again at the craft brews festival and were delighted to try more of their offerings.

Yelp
Holy smokes, do people love this place or what?! You walk in, and if you're an indecisive self-proclaimed foodie like me, this place will be both a paradise and a nightmare. I looked into Markthalle Neun and what I read didn't prepare for me for the popularity of this place. If you're a food or just int the area (or willing to make it there) on a Thursday, I would really recommend checking it out. All kinds of customers were there - families, locals, travelers, young, & old. You can already tell how awesome this place is as you get closer - cyclists who get there too late aren't able to chain their bikes to railings and fences. Chances are you won't be able to find a table unless you're lucky. Trash cans are all full and carefully-placed empty bottles are next to them. After making 2 rounds throughout the entire market, I finally settled with "Hello Good Pie" (couldn't find a Yelp page for them) and got a mini- salmon pie with a cider. They have foods of all kinds, from dessert, to dim sum-esque dishes, to meats & cheeses, sandwiches, and so on.

Yelp
Awesome indoor market with tons of fresh Italian foods, produce and more! We bought everything we needed for a dinner party here in one stop and ate a delicious pizza lunch and had some vino while shopping too. Delicious fresh raviolis with interesting fillings (buy extra to freeze for another day), fresh cannoli at multiple stalls, fresh pastas, breads, cheeses including burrata, they even have Italian speck! Beautiful selection of fresh flowers to dress your home! Can't wait to get back soon!

Yelp
The old Market Hall (opened 1891) is located exactly between the Eisenbahnstraße and the Pücklerstraße in Berlin Kreuzberg near the Lausitzer Platz. The hall is beautiful and it is a pity that it is almost empty. Who wants to go shopping there, there is only an Aldi, a drug store and discount clothing KIK and a snack bar. But there are no fruit and vegetable stalls! About half of the Market Hall is empty. Anyway, the future of the Hall seems uncertain. Before some time a resident initiative, are teaming up with locally-based retailers and restaurateurs and work for a revival of the old Market Hall as a cultural hall. Hopefully with success! To access the Market Hall you go best with the Metro to the Railway Station "Görlitzer Bahnhof" and walk the rest (about 10 minutes). Video link: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=K5zAolx0t1U

Yelp
On a weekday at lunch time, several of the vendors were closed, and overall the ones that were didn't offer much in terms of unique German foods or things that you could make a meal out of. Two of us ended up getting dumplings/German potato salad/etc. from one of the vendors in the back, and then one of us got barbecue from another vendor. The only other booth of interest had sushi. We also got Fritz Kolas from one of the vendors on a corner. You can also access the supermarket/grocery store from inside here where we got two separate one liter bottles of still water for less than one USD with tax. I wouldn't go out of my way to add this to my list of things to do in Berlin if you're here on vacation.

Yelp
I came when it was just too crowded. Hated it. So I won't mention the irritating goateed hipsters in their stupid fedoras. Or the douche bags with their kilts, beards and man buns. I also won't write about the lines that prevented me from trying multiple vendors. Or the inability to actually sit down in a seat so I could eat and enjoy my food. So, go during off hours. I'm not sure when that is. Or have a nightmare, like I did. We had a cheese plate; some Asian dumplings; some dim sum style steamed buns. Also, homemade ice cream. I guess it was ok. When stuff is that hectic, I can't tell if the food is bad, or people can't cook correctly with huge lines. Or maybe I just can't enjoy the food because of the hell. I don't recommend this place if you can't figure out when to go when they're not slammed.

Yelp
I got the Salat wrap since I desperately craved some greens and my friends got a Currywurst and a cheese plate. The price was very reasonable and the place got a relaxing vibe. The food was tasty and the business-owners were super friendly. It's a more Brooklyn place than Brooklyn, but the price is not crazy at all.

Yelp
The coolest location for street food events. From Vegan ice-cream, to Amazing spare ribs, you can enjoy everything here. For parents, there is a small playing ground available, and the live music will keep you entertained.

Yelp
I'm a huge sucker for large markets with lots of food stands, drinks, and small shops. Needless to say I was a huge fan of Markthalle Neun. If you're looking for a lot of variety, it's a great place to check out. There wasn't a ton of seating but it also wasn't hard to find an area to eat. If you're a tourist, it doesn't hurt to check out and fill up on some food before the nightlife.

Yelp
Where do I start and how do I finish? I really don't know the answer to either question. All I can really tell you is that this kaleidoscope of a street food and drink market is the coolest, most happening place in Berlin. There's so much to eat and drink, you really won't know where to start. It's certainly all about sustainability and as well as consumption (not the disease) there're workshops - many in English. Set in and around Lausiterplatz a couple of times a year (although in indoor part at Markthalle neun is on every week at Eisenbahnstraße) if you happen to be in Berlin then pop along. You'll probably get off at Gorlitzer U-bahn and have to dodge the drug sellers (you'll know them when you see them), but the locals take this in their stride and so should you. In fact part of the fun of this bio-market is watching the Berliners just doing their bohemian thing. I really don't know if they're trying too hard to be cool, or whether they get out of bed that way? I'm still trying to work it out, but in the end I soon put that to one side and tucked into my bratwurst from a pig called Hilda, a slice of lemon gateaux, some tapas and a smoked fish dish - all gulped down with a beautifully robust organic German wine and a Dunkel or two :-)

Yelp
Saturday Market: OK but not worth a trip I'd read a lot of amazing reviews of this market, but almost all for the street food markets on Thursday or Friday nights, which I haven't managed to catch on a Berlin visit yet. However, I saw that the market should still be running on a Saturday afternoon, so we decided to head over to grab lunch at one of the many stalls. I had a really hard time finding out who would be there on a Saturday, so wasn't sure what to expect. To be honest, coming from London, and was expecting something like Borough Market. On a Saturday, at least, that was a bit of a stretch. There were 5-10 stalls selling prepared food with another handful selling meat, fish, cheese, or wine. We scoped past everything to evaluate where to get food for lunch, and ruled out the BBQ place because the queue looked about 30-45 minutes, and I needed vegetarian food. We ended up eating at Sironi, which was a solid 4 out of 5 stars (separate review), for very tasty foccacia at a reasonable price. Basically, I wouldn't bother travelling over for this market on a Saturday if you regularly have access to a gourmet market, but if you're nearby, there is plenty to enjoy.
