The 26 Best Restaurants In Kansas City, Missouri - Kansas City - The Infatuation

"Don’t limit yourself to the gorgeous pastries or fancy sparkling waters at Billie’s—they’ve also got some really good and substantial breakfast and lunch options. Like their spicy tuna bowl and the beet burger that’s been described by our vegetarian friends as “the best in the freaking world.” While it closes at 6pm, it’s a perfect place to meet for a casual coffee and a gluten-free, dairy-free pastry. Seriously, try the Blue Majik bar with blue spirulina or one of the candy bar imitations and see if you taste a difference." - ryan bernsten

Billie’s Grocery is a bright, modern café that perfectly balances health-conscious eating with serious flavor. The menu is packed with fresh, inventive dishes — from vibrant grain bowls and seasonal salads to beautifully presented breakfast plates and baked goods that taste indulgent yet wholesome. The ingredients are clearly top-quality, and every dish feels carefully crafted rather than overly trendy. The atmosphere is warm and airy, making it a great spot for brunch with friends or a relaxed solo meal with a coffee. Service is friendly and attentive without being rushed. Whether you’re after a nourishing meal or just a great cup of coffee in a stylish space, Billie’s Grocery delivers every time.

Had an awesome time and a fantastic breakfast. Gluten-Free waffles, eggs and a charcoal latte. There's so many more things I'd love to try on the menu and in the cases. If you're in KC and you like breakfast, check it out!

Come here for the first time is a little chaotic. The tables are quite closely packed together and making it difficult to maneuver do the water station and back. Staff are very nice, the specialty baked goods are great. The croissants unfortunately fell flat. I would still return, but there are many things on the menu I would like to try

Google
Had the carnitas burrito and it was delicious, coffee was great too. The pastries looked amazing, they were flying off the shelves so they must be very good. Great ambiance and quick service, it is self seating but had no issue finding a spot. Definitely coming back to load up on pastries.

Google
I stopped by on my way through town. It’s rare to find places that have good gluten free baked goods. I was 100% pleased! I got a cinnamon roll and a donut. Both were so good! The cinnamon roll was soft and bready. It had such a delightful texture and crumb. It was as not overpowering with cinnamon, but just perfect. The cream cheese frosting was divine! The donut was delicious as well! Perfect texture and fabulous frosting!

This place has been on my bucket list for a while and I finally made time to try this place out and see what it’s all about! The desserts were overflowing! I ordered the poke bowl, the Majik amino-ade and the gluten free cheesecake! It was hard to make any decisions in this place but that just means I’ll have to make multiple trips back! It’s a unique spot in Kansas City! Everyone should visit this place at least once!

Google
The baked goods looked amazing!!!! We did not try them tho. My husband had steak and eggs and i had the salmon bowl. It’s unfortunate but his steak was very undercooked and his eggs were also undercooked. The food looked amazing and i wish it was for him. My bowl was actually pretty good my egg was lightly poached but the rest of my food did not need to be cooked. The mushroom latte was pretty good as well. The atmosphere is very cool. We have heard great things about this place but it did not deliver. My husband ate a couple pieces of the steak and a small part of his egg and his potatoes, which were amazing, and no one asked how his food was they just came and grabbed his plate. It’s a cool place hopefully your experience is better.

I went in for Sunday Brunch with my family a few weeks back. I had heard good things. I had the trout plate. It was excellent. Great flavors. Well prepared. Fresh and delicious. I ama trout snob, and was pleasantly surprised that they did it so well. The baguette on the side was delightful. I also tried the waffles. It is not easy to make a great gluten free baguette or waffle. But they did it! Had I not know they were gluten free, I would never have suspected it. Everything else we ordered was also praiseworthy. The restaurant was pretty full of people, but still quite comfortable. My only complaint is that the room is very loud. I am not sure if loud restaurants is a “thing”, but it is not my thing. The building they are in is a beauty. It has the decorative tile exterior which is really nice to see. The inside space is open and clear and feels great. I need to go back some time for a bread making class. That would be fun. I definitely recommend eating here!

Yelp
Always the best Gluten Free selection and all so tasty!! I've never had a bad experience here.

Yelp
I'm a huge fan of environment Love all the gluten free tasty treats I can't go there every day cause I literally work all the time but sometimes Sundays my hubby will take me for breakfast and he will go to Costco and leave me there to draw my doodles and sip on my drink and enjoy a sweet treat Highly recommended
google avatar

Yelp
Billie's Grocery is exceptional and I don't say that very often. The flavors! The food bursts with tastes that you might have never thought about and all marry well together. Go let your tastebuds have a party.

Yelp
After yoga we opted for a light, clean healthy-ish breakfast. It was very busy. We had to circle both parking lots before happening upon someone leaving. Be prepared for that on the weekend. Through the door is very busy and loud. Grab a menu to place your order, if you're staying look for seating before hand otherwise you could be waiting for seating too after you get your food. You're given a number to place at your table and await food delivery. Lots of folks hanging around and socializing instead of eating. I ordered the CRAB SCRAMBLE, which i confirmed contains real crab meat. Just as described: wild caught blue crab, soft folded Buttonwood Farm egg, Farm to Market croissant, pickled jalapeño cream cheese, spicy mayo, roasted potatoes+green onion. It was as delicious as it's described. The croissant was warm and soft. To me it was an omelette but not a whole lot of egg either but plenty of the crab meat, with the cream cheese was so flavorful, not spicy at all. The roasted potatoes were crispy, I seasoned it with salt. Overall the food was spectacular. The ambiance is open with natural light. We had a lot of arm workout because of swatting away gnats. If I go back it would not be to fine in.

Yelp
This place was buzzing when I came in. A cute cafe with variety of pastries that will make it hard to choose. They have pop tarts to mini cakes to pavlovas. They serve gluten free meals and it's delicious. I will be back to try their crab scramble.
google avatar

Haley W.

Yelp
Nice local spot for coffee and food. They specialize in gluten free desserts, which I've yet to go wrong with any of the sweet items. I had the breakfast bowl which is very hearty, made with perfect over easy eggs. Can get busy at times, otherwise is a good place to meet up with friends or even to work from.
google avatar

Yelp
Simple.... GLUTEN FREE HEAVEN! If you like good food, quality, fresh, AND/or Gluten Free, this us your place. Seriously my favorite spot Oh, and they have cooking classes! We took the gluten free sourdough bread one and had tons of fun!
google avatar

Allison G.

Yelp
Everyone really loved their dishes here! Great ambiance, can be very busy on the weekend but ordering is pretty efficient and seats open up quickly. The thai bowl w chimichurri steak was very yummy & a great portion with some for leftovers! Will be back to try some of their other offerings since the menu is pretty big.
google avatar

Alex R.

Yelp
Smooth operation! Light and bright space, perfect for a brunch outing. It is a clearly a popular spot and was busy but the line moves quickly and they had plenty of seating. Your order at the counter and your food and drinks are brought to your table. We had the Turkish eggs & grilled halloumi, crab omelette, and kale chips to eat there. Great flavors and filling. I had the shroomunity latte as well and it was just right, just a hint of sweetness and a nice earthy taste. Don't skip the pastry case! We snagged some treats to go and loved the unique flavor offerings.

Shannan H.

Yelp
This is our second visit and seriously one of my very favorite places to enjoy a meal and sweets!!!! Being gluten free, this place is a dream. It's busy but keeps moving efficiently. Food tasted great again!! We had the chicken and waffles. Yummy!!!! Chicken sandwich on gf bread- soooo good. And the tuna sushi bowl thing. Haha. Good too! Sweets: cinnamon roll yes! Strawberry roll - super yes! Sugar cookie- good but not ont order again bc so many things are better. But yummy Lemon blueberry bar - soooooo good Carrot cake: our favorite. And the lemon bar. I mean. Soooooo good. The strawberry roll is just so good too.
google avatar

Cara S.

Yelp
I took a class at Billie's Cooking school and it was nicely paced, the instructor was very helpful, and the recipes were delicious and provided to us the next day! I went alone but would recommend taking a partner with you since there were a lot of pairs in the class.
google avatar

Sathish N.

Yelp
The atmosphere is something here. They have a varieties of gluten free pastries here. I'd love to try their pastries in future visits. This is my second visit in a month & I tried their Grilled Chicken and lemon Gremolata sando with sweet potato fries. Food was very good. Coffee was okay not great though. This place is always packed & you can also park the car at Costco parking nearby if you don't find parking at this place.

Shardae S.

Yelp
One of my favorite go to spotslove the food and atmosphere. One male cashier is pretty amazing, the rest of the crew seems very non- conversational. But the older gentleman at the register always makes me feel welcome
google avatar

Abbey S.

Yelp
Love the big open space and walls of windows in here, perfect for a sunday brunch. The sweet potato fries could save a life.
google avatar

MaryLou F.

Yelp
Great place for gluten-free food and plentiful desserts. Get there early for lunch as the lines can be long. Good service. Great food and ambiance.
google avatar

Baylee R.

Yelp
I had a wonderful experience here! We were lucky enough to get a spot on the patio, and the weather was perfect! The vibe was awesome. The line was very long, that's how you know it's a good spot! They had tons of different pastries, cupcakes, cookies, etc. all gluten free which is awesome for those who have that sensitivity. I got the strawberry jam biscuit and it was incredible! I'd reccomend Billie's to all.
google avatar

Ruchi A.

Yelp
Loved it! The atmosphere was great and the hostess was awesome at explaining the menu! I got the limeade and the tuna bowl! I didn't live the rice in the tuna bowl as it felt undercooked and it was on the smaller side but good for lunch! Parking honestly is terrible at the location so beware if you're in a rush!
google avatar

Jolanta L.

Yelp
Billie's Grocery always have pretty and fun drinks! They have a great sweets/dessert selection, I think they all made pretty, I think some of the desserts could be better compared to André's and other places. Most of the lunches were pretty healthy. I wasn't quite impressed with the Asian style salad, it quite what I was expecting. Otherwise, most American breakfast/food were good.
google avatar

Rachel J.

Yelp
Billie's Grocery is such a cute breakfast spot and the ambiance is so welcoming. Even though it was very busy the morning I went, the wait time was super short and our food got to us very quickly. I tried the BG Skillet and the Shakshuka. Both dishes were quite mediocre and lacked flavor in my opinion. The chicken sausage in the skillet was super dry but the potatoes were very good. The Shakshuka was a bit watery and lacked seasoning. I have tried the carnitas burrito in the past and that was definitely better than what I tried this time around. I would be open to returning to try some of the other dishes because the two I tried this time were a miss for me unfortunately.

Yelp
What a true gem of a restaurant in Kansas City, especially for those who follow gluten-free dietary restrictions! As someone with celiac, I was incredibly impressed by how extensive of a menu Billie's offered with dietary accommodations and how knowledgeable the staff were at answering questions about possible cross-contamination risks. I came here around 1 pm on a weekday, assuming that the lunch rush would be over, but it was still pretty packed, which was probably a sign of how popular and great this place was! The restaurant has a decent amount of seating, with some tables scattered in between that were selling some packaged snacks, books, and local goods. It was beautifully lit with plenty of plants and overall gave off such aesthetic and elegant vibes! I actually ended up ordering several times from Billie's during my brief trip in Kansas City and enjoyed every! single! thing! that I tried :) -daily frittata with side salad: 5/5 I had never eaten such a beautifully presented frittata before! while the actual egg was baked slightly more than I'd preferred, it was incredibly flavorful and the side salad that it came with was amazing! it was so fresh and colorful and had the best crunch ever to pair with the sweet sesame dressing that it came with - would definitely get this again, even though the rest of their menu looked amazing!! I got a side of sweet potato fries as well - be warned, the portion size is HUGE and the fries are dangerously tasty! -crab scramble: 4.5/5 I was so impressed that I was able to order this item with gluten-free accommodations! Their scrambled eggs were *so* soft and fluffy and I loved how they paired with the crab, which they definitely didn't skimp on in terms of portion size! their roasted potatoes were chef's kiss and they were able to swap out the regular croissant with GF baguette slices! They have such an extensive gluten free bakery selection as well - everything looked so, so good! -tiramisu mini tart: 4/5: the dough was drier than I expected but the tiramisu filling and whipped cream on top was absolutely delicious! this is such a fun, creative way to reimagine the classic dessert! -sugar cookie with raspberry orange frosting: 5/5, absolutely no notes besides the fact that I'm still craving this cookie! this had such a wonderful chewy texture that made it hard to believe that it was completely gluten-free! i absolute love the flavor combination of raspberry and orange together and while this cookie is very sweet, it was such a treat to indulge in! -peanut butter-macademia nut-white chocolate cookie: 4/5, whow they really tried to pack everything they could into this cookie! in theory all of these flavors should work super well together but the main flavor I tasted was peanut butter - which was understandable tbh. this cookie had a similarly impressive chewy texture, though it was a bit doughier compared to the sugar cookie. i had these cookies sitting around in the fridge for a few days, but after heating them up for 15 sec or so, they tasted amazing, as if they were fresh-baked again :) I can't praise Billie's enough - the overwhelming majority of positive comments I see on yelp truly don't do this brand justice! keep on being amazing Billie's!

Trust Me I.

Yelp
This place is an excellent brunch option or if you're just looking for a sweet tooth fix. All of there baked goods are gluten free but they taste phenomenal which is so hard to find. The food is on the lighter side and refreshing bold flavors. It's always a great experience!
google avatar

Kerbie D.

Yelp
Ok so i love the ambiance. Super cute. I got the street frites- magically delish. Def would again. Also got the peanut chicken bowl... it was boring... idk.. needed more tang, more lime? Maybe some more cilantro? Idk it was just meh for me.. the char on the chicken gave it a bitter taste that needed to be balanced by SOMETHING. The desserts look amazing. Didn't try but looks to be a celiac's dream with all the Gluten free options. Amazing.. will try again? If there's a happy hour or something... but for now, it's giving basic hipster deli vibes. Oh- i got the "prissy b*itch" coctail.. there was a lot of ice.
google avatar

Melanie C.

Yelp
I love going here for their desserts! They are beautiful and delicious. Almost too pretty to eat! They also have a ton of vegan desserts for those who are looking for that option. It's a big open space with lots of natural light. They also have a great brunch menu. I would say the only negative is sometimes it's hard to find parking but other than that it's amazing!
google avatar

Avrie G.

Yelp
Wow! A million times yes will I be back! I had so many people recommend this spot to me for a quick bite or a stop on lunch break. I finally took the opportunity to visit with my grandparents and I was astonished with everything about this local business. The building is stunning, old brick, classic to KC and the surrounding scenery. The inside is clean, white, boho, and airy. I love the combined modern and rustic vibe the place brings into one. The menu is truly delectable - your favorites, just elevated. I had a Reuben, and it was the best Reuben I have had! The pickled toppings stood out in the best way, making the sandwich one to remember. Note that when something says it is spicy, it is SPICY! I was also beyond pleased with the dessert case. I truly wanted one of everything, but wasn't disappointed with our choices. Will have to be back to slowly try one of each!! Last but not least, the service was phenomenal for the store setting. Upon arrival, you can pick up a menu located throughout the store, and order at the counter. You will get a table number where you can find open seating. We had a few questions and waved an employee down who helped answer every question and interest we had. A remarkable and must see spot in KC!
google avatar

Haley M.

Yelp
The coffee was delicious, the food was yummy, but the real showstopper was the dessert case. We brought home several treats to share and couldn't get enough. Can't wait to come back and try something else!
google avatar

Erik O.

Yelp
Yup. Enough said right? Such a fun spot with outstanding service and I would argue the coffee is a close second. With so many food options to pick from, you won't have a choice but to stop in again and grab a new pastry or menu item.
google avatar

Lindsay W.

Yelp
I don't live in KC anymore but wish this place was around when I did. You order at the counter and they bring your food. It's a great menu from breakfast, lunch, sandwiches, soups and salads to bowls. Everything looked so delicious it was hard to decide what to get. The gal recommended the bagel with lox and it did not disappoint. The pastries and desserts looked so decadent so I had to try the cilantro lime cookie - yummy! Crispy on the outside and chewy / soft in the middle. They also offer cooking classes as well! I'll definitely be back when I visit KC again
google avatar

Hannah K.

Yelp
Gluten free HEAVEN! If you're gluten free and are visiting KC, this is a must visit! Tiramisu, chai bar, Snickers bar, Twix bar, cookie dough bar, cheesecake, pumpkin roll, cream puff, eclair, pumpkin woopie pie, donuts, muffins, cookies, and I tried the home made strawberry pop tart! You could go every day of the month and not have the same item. So so wonderful and delicious!
google avatar

Grace P.

Yelp
Stopped in for a quick treat and got this apple cinnamon roll. It was delicious and can't believe it was gluten free.
google avatar

Danielle M.

Yelp
I had seen rave reviews about this place, but was skeptical for no reason other than I generally don't believe the hype. I was very pleasantly surprised. So many great gluten-free options! I tried the sesame chicken salad, which has fried chicken on top - really great. I also got a strawberry pop tart to have later. It's more of a jelly filled pastry - it's not pop tart texture, but even better (though I didn't love the frosting and ended up scraping it off, it didn't need it). I will definitely return to try more pastries and more entrees as well.
google avatar

Brandy N.

Yelp
Such a cute brunch spot! Don't let the name fool you, this isn't your typical "grocery" run. Their menu is gluten free and DELICIOUS. The only thing is, is that they get pretty busy and it can be tough to find a table! Get there before the brunch rush, or just stop in for some desserts instead!
google avatar

Victoria L.

Yelp
A gluten-free/ celiac's dream. Fresh, clean, natural ingredients. I got this GF pop tart, a breakfast bowl and a coconut yogurt. SO GOOD. I would come back for this... and I live nowhere in Kansas!
google avatar

Monte' J.

Yelp
Update 5/18/24 Came back and tried another dish 2/5 I substituted carmelized onions for raw/fresh onions but they sauteed them anyway. I also opted for scrambled hard eggs vs poached eggs. The service was good. The meal was bland, I got a few pickled onions from my wires dish to give it some flavor. Texture wise it was good and the portion size was fair. I want to like the dish but it's lacking. I'll see if the third time is a charm and try the burger the next time around and my better half loves this place. If you haven't been come and enjoy ( the pastries are amazing and full of flavor)
google avatar

Azile Y.

Yelp
Loved my spicy tuna bowl! It's a tad pricey here but so what, you're paying for good food and the ambiance. I sat outside and enjoyed the strong WiFi signal on my laptop. I noticed that the outdoor tables were light on seating, there were two long tables, one of them had a meeting going on with every chair occupied and the other has only 2 chairs, both occupied, and then a huge space with no chairs- so I sat at a high stool instead. My friend had the Turkish eggs, which I am getting next time!! Parking situation isn't ideal, it gets so crowded- carpool or walk if possible.
google avatar

Jason G.

Yelp
Nice bright atmosphere - hip bakery feel with lots of natural light. I had the Turkish eggs. Great Mediterranean inspired flavor went well with eggs, cream and cheese with bread. I'm curious to try other breakfast items on the menu
google avatar

Jen F.

Yelp
Beautiful food and atmosphere! Highly recommend Billie's Brunch Bowl! It was protein and tons of fresh veggies. A perfect balancing act of flavors and great nutrition.
google avatar

Brelin S.

Yelp
Are we joking!!? We came to KC on a little getaway from OKC. I've been gluten free for about 15 years, so my top priority in every city we visit is so find good places to eat! Billie's Grocery did NOT disappoint! That GF cinnamon roll was hands down the best one I've ever had. I said to my husband, "it's a crazy experience to go out to eat and be able to eat almost everything on the menu!" What an incredible place. In fact, we're going to go back in before we head home!
google avatar

Shay D.

Yelp
The food was delicious!! Service was fast. I got the carnitas bowl and I am generally not a fan of pork but this was tasteee. Came with whole grain rice, beans, pico( a bit too much jalapeños for me), greens and guacamole with a red sauce on top. It was very fresh and flavorful. Dessert was a blueberry type cookie with filling in the middle. Yum yum yum. Oh yes and cant forget the Chai latte with sweetener added. Just the right combo for a Saturday lunch
google avatar

Sierra H.

Yelp
Though Billie's is a bit outside of my usual price range, I am more than willing to spend a couple extra bucks for food this delicious! The Spanish Steak sandwich I tried was wonderful. I also tried their classic frosted sugar cookie (not pictured) and I've been thinking about it for the last week straight! Additionally, staff was friendly and the atmosphere at Billie's was busy and vibrant!
google avatar

Sarah G.

Yelp
Absolutely excellent first visit to a place that I hope to come back to time and time again... It was recommended to me doubly and I was even more than that please with the food, beverages and baked goods here!
google avatar

Raven S.

Yelp
Food:5/5 Atmosphere:5/5 Service:5/5 Picture it. It's a Saturday morning and you want to grab some good food, hang out with friends, and grab some sweet treats and/or hosting essentials for your next dinner party. You're trying to figure out where to go.. there is one answer. Billie's Grocery. A beautiful spread of gluten free, protein packed, and TASTY treats and foods will greet you. Next you can order brunch or from their all day menu and with a plethora of choices, you are bound to find something you like. I ordered the steak sandwich with sweet potato fries and had to do a little dance after my first bite! The food was fresh and tasted great! After we ate I grabbed myself some mocktail mixers (how cool is it that they have tequila, gin, and rum substitutes for those who want to be spirit free?!), some flowers, and some sweets for the road. I would definitely recommend stopping in and enjoying this lovely establishment.
google avatar

Taylor C.

Yelp
Everything we got was great. The ingredients taste very fresh and clean. They have a ton of bakery items that we will have to come back and try everything looked delicious!
google avatar

Aaron S.

Yelp
Absolutely fantastic. From great pastries to healthy food options to some unique items to shop from, this place has it all. With an extensive list of ambitious menu items, I suspect that this place does *several* things well. Often busy and with a small parking lot, you may not get premium parking, but definitely worth the trip--and we didn't have to wait to be seated. To drink, I had the shroomunity latte, which I loved. The flavor and texture really hit the spot. To eat, I had the crab scramble. I didn't really get a taste of crab, but it was so good I didn't even mind. The egg and English muffin underneath were perfectly cooked and the spicy mayo is something I will dream about. Before leaving, we enjoyed shopping some of their spirit free alcohol options, probiotic sodas, and flowers. We'll certainly return! What I enjoyed: many things. Friendly service, great atmosphere, food quality, healthy options What could be better: there wasn't much love in the hash browns that came with my entree but overall not bad. Also, my wife and I's food arrived at significantly different times, which wasn't ideal. Highly recommend!
google avatar

Vladi Z.

Yelp
Been here a few times and the food is great, with solid coffee options too. Parking is a bit limited, and the prices are a little up there
google avatar

Oliver D.

Yelp
Excellent food, and very, very healthy menu options. Avocado toast dish was excellent, dad had bowl with tuna. Self service on water and utensils FYI.
google avatar

Bob C.

Yelp
So I am weekend regular and love the food, wish I could get away from the skillet but the stomach wants what the stomach wants. So why the three star rating you ask, it's because they charged me a dollar for hot sauce and a dollar for jelly, come on folks, every normal restaurant has both hot sauce and jelly on the table for their customers.
google avatar

Ashley F.

Yelp
I was so excited to try Billy's and it did not disappoint. The service was exceptional and the staff was very knowledgeable about my questions. They have a dedicated gluten-free fryer and they don't use harmful oils which I loved so I went ahead and got the sweet potato fries for the first time in a long time. Everything on the menu looks amazing including the drinks and the drinks in the cooler that are separate. The bakery items are out of this world beautiful and tasty too. I ordered the steak sandwich with a gluten-free bun and sweet potato fries. For dessert, I had the lemon curd tart. I even took a snickerdoodle cookie, a blueberry muffin, and a caramel coconut protein bite to go. I cannot wait to return. It's a little out of my way, but it's worth the trip. Check it out, even if you don't have diet restrictions. The food is delicious!
google avatar

Michele J.

Yelp
I've been a buck of times but have only had breakfast and the desserts! I love the bowls and handcrafted coffees.
google avatar

Bobbie H.

Yelp
What a gem!! so glad one of my book club friends suggested to hold our April book club meeting here. Such a cute place in Midtown with loads of drink, brunch and food options along with cute adorable pastries. Service was wonderful. This place was packed, but still found a spot to eat. So you know that it was going to be good and it so was! I had the lemon chicken sandwich. My daughter had a burgerand my friends salad. Loads of gluten-free options, healthy drinks and my favorite pastry was the Lavendar divinity highly recommend checking them out! I'll definitely be back for one of those delicious cakes!
