15 Best Charlotte, North Carolina, Coffee Shops | Eater Carolinas

"Owner Cheryse Terry has built a space that transcends coffee and celebrates Black culture. Archive does this by way of creating a community gathering space with decades of vintage Black-owned magazines and newspapers, Toni Morrison totes, Maya Angelou books, and art collections highlighting Black history, all tightly situated along the walls and shelves. Enjoy a pared-down coffee menu with a few signature flavors — vanilla, caramel, and savory brown butter — and layered tea blends. This cafe and shop attracts a loyal crowd from surrounding Washington and Lincoln Heights, and nearby Johnson C. Smith University and Northwest School of the Arts. Alongside the coffee, the aux, the Pac-Man machine, and endless ephemera to explore are all compelling reasons to check out this spot." - Kayleigh Ruller

Love this place! It’s got such a cool, nostalgic vibe. I had the Foxy Brown oat milk latte which was so smooth and flavorful, and my daughter had the mango smoothie which was amazing with a bold, fresh mango taste. We split a slice of locally sourced lemon cake that was perfectly tangy and delicious. The decor is fun and full of history, and my daughter got a kick out of the vintage phones on the tables. Definitely a spot we’ll be coming back to!

Archive CLT isn’t just a café—it’s an experience. The space is full of energy, creativity, and pride, with a wall mural honoring icons of Black history and shelves packed with art, books, and local products. It feels like a mix between a coffee shop, community hub, and living museum. The atmosphere is warm and inclusive—you can sit for hours, sip great coffee, and feel surrounded by stories and purpose. Every detail, from the artwork to the playlist, reflects authenticity and care for culture. If you’re in Charlotte and want to support a space that celebrates community and creativity while serving an excellent cup of coffee, Archive CLT is a must-visit.

Vibes are unmatched, feels like home. Super cozy, amazing staff, amazing feel of the place. It’s like traveling back in time in Black America. Great spot to meet and have coffee, get some work done, or just take it all in. Wouldn’t recommend for huge parties, but a friend group of 2-3 would fit comfortably in most spaces.

Very cute place!!! We came in the morning of my birthday and the gal working the front totally just made my day. She was so kind and gave us some great recommendations as we were just visiting the area for the weekend. Also made me one of the best lattes I’ve ever had! You can tell she invests a lot of time into her business and the decor is adorable. Definitely check it out if you’re in the area 😊 Can’t wait to come back!!

Come for the coffee and stay for the vibes! I tried the Nikki Gingervanni latte and a piece of lemon cake and both were delicious— I’m still thinking about that latte to be honest The vibe of this small coffee shop is rich with Charlotte history and black culture. Definitely come check this place out!

Fresh off the plane, I headed over to Archive. I was met with extremely friendly staff who were welcoming and fun to talk to. I highly recommend coming here to support this coffee shop. The owner is an incredible person who seems to know everything about Charlotte. I was advised to order the foxy brown, and it was just what I needed. It was very tasty and gave me the boost of energy needed to go through the day. I got to capture photos of the charming inside, and you can see so much personality through the shop. It has history and hints of humor here and there.

Archive CLT is a cozy little black owned coffee shop. This place is like walking straight into a childhood home with JET magazine, black artwork, bored games, cozy couches and chairs and the smell of your mama's morning coffee. The offer a small menu of coffee assortment. The service is pleasant and quick. The coffee is great and affordable. It is on the smaller side so you'll have to grab a seat where you can. There is some outside seating. They do not offer food from what I can tell. There is a far amount of shared parking with the other establishments in the area. All in all, Archive has always been a wonderful experience visiting.
