R Wine Bar & Kitchen

We visited this Italian restaurant for lunch for the first time and had such a wonderful experience. The atmosphere was fun and light, and it felt extra special that they brought in a high school jazz band to play Christmas music — such a thoughtful touch that made the meal even more enjoyable. Our food was absolutely delicious, and our waiter, Jackson, was kind, attentive, and very polite. The service really added to the overall experience. One thing we always appreciate is how involved the owner and his wife are whenever we visit. It’s clear they take pride in their restaurant, and that level of care is a huge draw for us. We loved our lunch and will definitely be back again.

Surprised by the overall experience. We frequently visit Maribella and, after being recommended by multiple coworkers to try this location, decided to book for a date night before a show. Upon being sat down, our waitress was extremely attentive and friendly. Throughout the dinner however, the noise in the restaurant became unbearable. There was a large group sat adjacent to our table and we both extremely loud and vulgar. Spilling wine bottles and glasses, having inappropriate conversation, and overall being very rude. Other tables noticed also were very displeased. The waitress was extremely frazzled towards the end of our meal as the larger table had multiple dishes that were not prepared and the larger group took up the attention of the staff. We, and the table next to us, waited 20-30 minutes to get our bill after our tables had been cleared. Despite multiple staff helping this area, the sole focus of the staff was dedicated to this larger group. The food itself was amazing, and what we had ordered came out promptly and well prepared. Truly such amazing food, just unfortunately ruined by the ambience of the restaurant. Perhaps we just booked a busy night, but we are not willing to risk another incident when you're paying for quality food and dining experience.

This place was great for dinner! I was able to taste some wines before making a selection. Ruth our waitress had some great recommendations. We had our small children with us and they offered a child menu and high chair. To our surprise there was also live music. We will return when we come back into town.

Service was great. Salad, wine, appetizer great. Had high hopes for the main course but was completely let down. Both my wife and I received pasta dishes to which the flavor were both very good ,but the pasta in both dishes were both overcooked and mushy beyond redemption. The added meatballs were pretty tasty but overcooked pasta at an Italian place ?Had to dock some stars for that.

Visited on a Saturday for lunch, there was live music. Service was great, and the server was very knowledgeable about the menu. Overall experience was good, and all of the food was as well. Really enjoyed the Lemon Cake dessert it was a big hit with the family.

Had a birthday dinner for my wife here. It was amazing! I had the beef tenderloin & gnocchi. The beef was flavorful and the gorgonzola flavor of the sauce really came through. My wife had the tortellini with shrimp. Very flavorful shrimp with fresh veggies with the tortellini. Then we ended with a key lime cheesecake. Cheesecake was good, not great, and would probably order a different dessert in the future. I prefer much more key lime flavor coming through. Overall, great expirence and will certainly be back!

Atmosphere was really nice and our server was very polite,friendly and helpful.Food steak was perfect,pasta was good and desserts was so yummy. We have great time listening live music.

An amazing restaurant with impeccable service and food. This has been one of our mainstays for a few years now and I don't see that changing. The food is excellent and somehow continues to get better. The ricotta is a must have each time and has been updated recently with even better toast. Creamy, a bit of honey, and delicious. We always get the bisteca gorgonzola steak with gnocchi and the Chilean seabass. Both are cooked sous vide so they're as tender as can be and very flavorful. The garden salad is also a must have each time as it's fresh, great greens, and excellent dressing options. Other favorites are the pasta al limone and pasta alla papalina with chicken. You can't go wrong with any of the deserts. I haven't even mentioned the wine. It's well curated and for those that don't always know what they want, the featured wines are always great to try. I don't know my old world wines very well but you can always ask for a recommendation to get something that's great. The service has always been great, which is something that's difficult to find in Sioux Falls. You can tell there is server training and they actually seem to care about your experience. They also have live entertainment Thursday through Saturday, which brings in some of Sioux Falls best entertainers.

Fantastic food! We had the ricotta cheese and crostinis and bread and pesto for starters. For the main entree we had the honey pepper steak and champagne chicken. Both phenomenal! Server (didn't remember her name but had cute pinkish hair) was super!! Awesome ambiance! Great wine! We'll be back!!!

My first time visiting our wine bar and kitchen. You know it's good food when you walk in the door in the open air kitchen staff looks your way and nods. I knew right then I was in for a good meal, but I had no idea that I was going to be eating a piece of steak that was like butter in my mouth amazing flavor. The gnocchi was cooked perfectly not too much Gorgonzola just the right amount of black pepper, cream and butter I give it a "10" our server Addie was top-tier. She recommended delicious wine pairings with everything we ordered. The prep on the muscles was like nothing I've ever tried, but it was really spicy and delicious. I will definitely be back. The atmosphere was lively. A musician was playing the guitar and played my favorite Alicia Keys song. came over and talked to us. She was lovely introduced herself. A very friendly place to spend a Saturday night with friends.

R wine bar was absolutely fantastic! This is our second time going and it was the same great experience as the first time! I love how the servers are knowledgeable about their wine so they give really good recommendation. The pasta was amazing as usual which always hits the spot. I didn't picture it because I ate it right away but the chocolate torte is literally the best thing at this restaurant. I love it so much and I get it every single time I come! I love the atmosphere as it is very elegant and charming. Highly recommend! 4.3 stars!

I had my birthday at R Wine Bar a few years ago and have been hooked ever since! Anytime I have friends visiting, this is one of my go-to spot for a reservation. They always have live music, which adds to the fantastic atmosphere. The wine list is out of this world, and the food is really good. It's not a huge place, but it's always full of energy. You'll leave happy, full, and already planning your next visit!

This spot has so much to offer! The food is amazing and there are so many wine options. They also have a few local beers on draft. I was super satisfied with everything I had. The peach cobbler creme brûlée was just the cherry on top of my delicious meal. I hope I get to visit again next time I'm in the area.

What a wonderful restaurant! The revived stone structure and contrasting modern touches inside really give this building such a wonderful feel. The open kitchen allows you to peek at all the culinary action. We received a wonderful reception, exceptional service, and fantastic food options. The menu offers create pairing suggestions making it easy for even a novice wine drinker to have an exceptionally enjoyable dining experience without breaking the bank. Access to the restaurant is easy, with plenty of parking in the area and right in the downtown area allows for you to walk off the wonderful meal you guaranteed to receive at this restaurant. A must for anyone looking for a special night out for an outstanding meal.

Great ambiance! The sous vide steak was great--- the shrimp scampi was watery - do not order it

This place is the epitome of what a restaurant does to keep customers on as repeat customers. We had stopped at a brewery before dinner and had 6 pack of cans and a bag of bottles and were greeted warmly and led to a table up by the music act of the evening(only knock on this place was we were right by the act so it was a little loud). After being seated we were again warmly greeted by our server who was fast and attentive. After placing our drink orders(wine) she returned with my wife's glass of wine and said they couldn't find the bottle I ordered a glass of(no big deal) I ordered something else and she returned with my glass and asked if I would like the bottle as I got the last glass(thinking nothing of it I said yes). She returned with largest bottle of wine I've ever seen. We got a fun picture to share. On to the food we ordered the arancini cakes and were disappointed when the waitress returned and said the chef took it off the menu so instead we ordered the scallop crostini. While waiting on our food and enjoying the wine and music the head chef came over and explained why they took the arancini cakes off the menu. They make the breading ahead of time and bread the cakes fresh. They had gotten complaints the cakes were salty, the chef tasted the breading and agreed. The salt had settled to the bottom, as the day progressed the breading had gotten salty. Then another small disappointment the scallop crostini came out with our meal instead of before. On to the entrees, my wife ordered the pasta alla papalina with scallops and I ordered the blackened salmon. The entrees were great al dente on the pasta with a perfect sear on the buttery scallops and luscious sauce while my salmon was perfection, a great crust with a deftly seasoned crust accompanied by the perfect pillows of nicely pan fried gnocchi. We ended our meal with the perfect complement to the meal crème brûlée it was delicious and rich, yet light and delicate. We got our bill and my wife's first glass of wine was comped as it came up in conversation with our waitress we were celebrating my wife's birthday and our appetizer was comped as well due to it not being what we wanted and it came out with the meal instead of before it. This is how a restaurant keeps customers coming back again and again. We live in Mankato and we will be back because they care about putting quality food out and taking care of their customers!

Great food. Great service. And fantastic wine! Pesto was off the hook. Bruschetta was delicious. Highly recommend this Chilean red blend... Wow!

We were excited to try a new place since we typically stay by empire mall when we are in town and not downtown. There was plenty of street parking so we nabbed a spot and walked over to R Bar. We did call ahead and made a reservation and confirmed to be on the patio. When we got there, the host told us he couldn't make the patio happen so we agree to a table inside. Shortly after, he came back and said a table freed up so we were able to move outside. It was actually nice for a second to see the food prep so it helped us decide what we wanted to get. When we got outside, there was a jazz band setting up. We ordered bread and pesto to start. We then got the Pomodora pasta with meatballs and the Farfalle al limone to split. Our food came out pretty quickly. I'd say it was just okay. The pasta sauce tasted like it was a jar sauce. Meatballs were really tasty. The sauce on the Farfalle was delicious and creamy but the chicken tasted dry and perhaps a prepackaged kind. The band was also terrible. The servers and host was so lovely though. The service is great but If you aren't here to enjoy the extensive wine menu - the food isn't going to blow your socks off.

Wow, my dinner was perfection. I had the small caprese salad (which also be a great appetizer). The flavors were great and the balsamic to drizzle was excellent. My entree was the pasta limone with chicken. It was the perfect amount of creamy lemon goodness. Tart without being too tart, creamy without being cloying. Efficient friendly waitress. I usually eat at Crave at the hotel because it's simple, knowing how good this is and still so close will have me coming back here.

First time here and not the last! Excellent food, friendly staff and nice atmosphere. I gave it 4 stars due to the noise level and lack of attention on drinks. But our server was nice and friendly, I just wanted a second glass of wine with my dinner. The live band it makes it difficult to have a conversation. We were seated in the front, so maybe if you are seated farther away from the band it wouldn't be so bad? The music was fine, but just too loud to have a conversation. I had a ceasar salad to start and the lettuce was crisp and fresh. Very nice. Dinner I had the pasta al limone - farfalle noodles tossed with fresh lemon cream sauce with pecorino romano and parmesan. I added shrimp to the dish for additional money. I really liked the lemon cream sauce. It wasn't over bearing just a nice hint of lemon, very nice. Dessert was a delicious cheesecake!! Im not a big cheesecake person but this was a fantastic tasting cheesecake. I could order this cheesecake, caramello cheesecake, every time I come here. Please keep it on the menu permanently!! The carmello cheesecake is a house made vanilla cheesecake served with caramel and shaved dark chocalate. DONT MISS OUT ON THIS CHEESECAKE. The limonetta cake was very good too. Its a layered vanilla cake with buttercream frosting and lemon curd. This was a good choice as well. Both went good with my espresso to finish off the meal. I will return to try this restaurant again, and just sit farther away from the band.

Struggled on what score for my review. We didn't have a reservation and it was a busy Monday night. They sat us right away at the high top table. Bread and Pesto was great. The Cesar salad was very rich and a little on the salty side. The charcuterie was a bit of strange arrangement for me. We got skittles instead of some almonds. No mustard and no honey or jellied fruit. Service was a bit underwhelming as well. I mean they are nice and helpful just not on top of their game. Also I noticed the kitchen sending out plates that backed up waiting for runners to the table. One chef called out for service a few times. Like I said not top of their game.

Not recommended for the price range. My husband and I ordered bruschetta, capers salad, and braised beef & mushrooms. The bruschetta topping used a dark vinaigrette for the tomato, and the bread tasted like it had been thawed from the grocery store. The braised beef wasn't warm enough and was quite gummy. The mozzarella in the capers salad was very dry, and the added shrimp were overcooked. The wine list was not user-friendly, as it was organized by region rather than by red and white. However, the dining environment was nice, with live music.

First time trying R Wine Bar! We had a great time. We began with a bottle of Zinfandel and thoroughly enjoyed it. The Mussles are a must! They were my favorite of the entire night. I was not a fan of the red sauced pasta as I felt it lacked flavor all around. The steak & gnocchi and lemon pasta were amazing. I would definately come back to this restaurant. There was also live music playing which is always a bonus! I do feel like the ambiance/decor is a bit drab and plain, but one could argue that it is a minimalistic rustic vibe overall.

I was staying across the street at the Hilton Garden Inn while visiting for a wedding. Looking for a glass or two of wine and a bite to eat, I strolled in on a late Thursday evening. WOW, this place is exceptional. Definitely not what I was expecting to find in Downtown Sioux Falls, South Dakota! The wine selection was excellent for not a huge city (being a resident of one of the top 5 US population centers). They also had a great beer selection. Really like the local Fernson Brewing Company's beer; my favorite was the Lion's Paw Lager. The food was great! I had some charcuterie, caprese salad and a flat bread. The toppings are eluding me... okay I had a little more than two glasses of wine. I do remember them being very flavorful and fresh tasting though. Will I be back? If I find myself in Sioux Falls again, without a doubt! If you live here or are visiting, definitely give this gem a visit.

Love this place! The atmosphere is relaxing and the food outstanding. Ruth was our server, and she was attentive and answered our questions with the confidence of the professional she is. My mom does not like tomato based sauces, but the dish she wanted had a tomato sauce. Ruth said they could do the same dish with a cream sauce instead and it was perfect! I had the steak with gnocchi and it was phenomenal. The steak was done to perfection and ranks as one of the best I've had. We will certainly come back!

One of the nicer places in Sioux Falls. Was surprised at how large it was inside too. Very nice wine selections- we typically stick to CA reds as we know them better from our Bay Area days and they had several reasonable and many pricey to cover all the bases. A had a Ragu pasta that was perfection and my wife had a wonderful Salmon dish. We will return.

Honestly can't say enough good things about this place. Did not know what to expect but what I got was a warm welcoming place. It's family owned and they take the time to be friendly and helpful. The food was top notch and the wine selection surprised me at the depth of their offerings. I will be back next time I'm close!

This restaurant is my personal favorite in Sioux Falls. If passing through Sioux Falls with time only for one dinner, I'd look here first. The combination of quality food, decent pricing, excellent service, and ambiance is right at the top.

We visited in February around 5:30pm. It was pretty quite. We ordered a bottle of wine and asked the waitress for food recommendations and that's what we ordered. It was excellent.

Just had an appetizer which was the charcuterie option. Was going to get the special of the night which was the champagne chicken that looked great but just wasn't that hungry. We didn't have reservations so sat at the bar and had the best bartender ever (Chance). They had live music which was also pretty good. Definitely try it if you're in the area, we will!

First off, this place is amazing. Great atmosphere, and the food! The food is fresh, delicious and beautifully prepared. Grand selection of wine. Very diverse and something for everyone's palate. The service is the cherry on top, the staff are attentive and so helpful. Made me feel at home. They have a jazz band on Thursdays and a local tribute band on Fridays. This place is a must visit should you find yourself on Sioux Falls and visiting (me I'm from Long Beach, Ca).

absolutely incredible! Amazing selection of wine. The pasta is fresh and the steak are sous vide and seared to perfection. The Gnocchi was out of this world delicious. Little pillows of heaven with the perfect balance of oils and sauce. Epic meal! If you're thinking of going here for a dinner. BOOK IT NOW!

It's been nearly a week since we visited R Wine Bar and we're still talking about it. For starters, we had the bruschetta and bread and pesto appetizers. Both were outstanding. The wine list was impressive. The Chicken Parmesan and Fettuccini Pomodoro were excellent. There was live music! The place was hoping and everyone seemed happy. The only downside to the entire evening was our lack of room for dessert...which I'm guessing is also exceptional. I can't wait to return. Well done!

Okay, beautiful place. Ambiance for an "experience" with your beloved, you bet. Staff was friendly amidst a packed house on a busy night. There was a huge wedding party even there! Ok so beautiful place friendly atmosphere. The food...for a proclaimed Italian restaurant to serve stale bread is nothing short of sacrilege. $30 charcuterie board(tiny portion of aforementioned bread included) was disappointing not so much for the quality of ingredients but the amount of them. Pasta was warm and that's about all that can be said about that.

The food is delicious and best of all it's in the heart of Sioux Falls. We arrived with a reservation and were seated immediately. Our waitress was extremely nice and provided amazing service. Overall I 100 percent recommend this restaurant to anyone who wants a delicious meal.

I do not say this lightly and if you read my reviews you will see that I never said it. This is the best steak dinner I've ever had. Sioux Falls. Great steak. Easy. Preparation, presentation and taste ... unbelievable. Served on a bed of gorgonzola gnocchi. Spectacular flavor. Perfectly mid-rare cooking of a wonderful cut of steak. Absolutely nothing short of spectacular. Paired with a nice 1/2 Caesar salad that was artfully presented and tasted better than it looked. Hello. You've got my attention. Service was excellent. Very attentive. Our quite lovely server brought fresh wine glasses for each bottle (expected? Sure. Ever happen? Rarely). I didn't get her name but she was left handed! A plus! Sioux Falls has a lot of great restaurants these days but this took it to a new level.

Outstanding food. A new and wonderful place in downtown Sioux Falls. Six of us eat and all were impressed with the flavors and service. Live music most nights. A must try for dinning.

Hosted a lunch meeting in the private room/bar downstairs. Food was perfect and Taylor (server) and Bailey (manager) were absolute professionals. Everything was perfectly timed, they were present but not hovering, exactly what I wanted for a business meeting.

This was absolutely the best food and wine we have had in a very long time. Service was amazing and the restaurant has the tables spread out so you are a good distance away from other guests. The food was very fresh and delicious. If you don't know what type of wine to order with your meal the owner Ricardo will be happy to suggest a few. Casual atmosphere as well.

First time and it was fantastic from beginning to end. Great food, great wine, and timely in everything they did!

Amazing pasta. Got the parpadelle pasta the bolognese- gluten. It was wonderful. The sauce had a kick and the pasta was just perfectly prepared. The other guest for rigatoni and the sausage was great. Added chicken for more protein. Then the best part of the meal was deserts. Because we couldn't decide, they brought us two options the Oreo cookie cheesecake and the lemon cake which were both just scrumptious. Light, decadent and deliciously perfect. Highly recommend this. Visiting from chicago and I was just surprised by how wonderful this place was. Not to mention the wonderful service.

Celebrated husband's bday at R Wine Bar and it's fantastic. Customer service is amazing!

I am amazed at the amount of positive reviews this restaurant received. Our food was cold. The lettuce in our salads was brown and wilted. My entree was rigatoni noodles, probably from a package that were boiled and a sprinkling of sausage and a few shreds of cheese were thrown over the top. It had very little taste at all. The only bright spot was that Dante, the manager, was extremely nice and apologetic as was our server, and our entrees were comped. We will not be back, unless it's only for a glass of wine.

Went as part of a large work party and enjoyed a variety of appetizers and the caprese salad with steak. Fantastic bread with honeyed ricotta! Service was great keeping up with a table of 25. We had several people in our group who don't drink such as myself and were limited on drink options - there are some pretty good non-alcoholic wines being made now and would be great to see a red and a white option and maybe a bubbly on the menu.

This was our first visit and we were very pleased. The service was exceptional. The pasta dishes were fresh and nicely proportioned. The wine selection was very nice. The ambiance is smart casual with the emphasis on casual. But we were there on a very warm day. My shrimp pasta dish was excellent and I would recommend it to anyone.

This bar is a winos dream! The live music is lit, the owner is awesome, their wine selection is vast and well curated. What is holding that last star off is our sub par waitress, lady with the bangs. Prior to our arrival there was a run on gluten which left the R bar bread less and us not being able to order the majority of the menu. Great stop if you want to get wine drunk on some high quality vinos.

Had a 7:00 pm reservation ona Saturday Nihht. It started out really good and then wavered into a cluster @&*k. Our server is was friendly but very unattentive. She was more into a table of 4 young guys in there mid 20's. There was an older group behind us that waiting about 20 minutes for her to come and pick up their check. They finally got up and started walking out when she came back to them. We ordered an appetizer first and about 20 minutes after that, salad. We finished the salad and it took the server approximately 35 minutes to come take our entree order. She never checked back after delivering the salads. After the we orders the entree's, it took another 35 minutes to get them. It was not shocking that they were cold when we hit them. By now it's 9:15 and we took a couple bites of food and caught the attention of a food runner and he got boxes for us. We loaded the boxes, miraculously got the bill with another 10 minutes, paid and left. We got into the car which was parked right in front at 9:28. The next day e reheated to food at home and it was pretty good. The whole experience was disappointing because the ambiance of the place on a Saturday Night was good. Live music, good vibe, cold food and awful service. We may give it another try, or maybe just settle for take out next time.

I stoped last week, the food, service and vibe was great. I moved hotels to the Sheraton across the street. I stoped Sunday and they were closed. Back today with the same great, food and service.

While I did not have the opportunity to enjoy this new establishment once it opened, I was privy to a random act of kindness. I was wandering around the area with a colleague trying to find a restaurant and wandered into the R Wine Bar looking for help. Riccardo was incredibly nice, as was his wife (can't remember her name) and his niece (manager). Though we couldn't eat there (kitchen wasn't open yet), Riccardo and his wife opened a bottle of wine for us despite the fact they weren't open. We spent half an hour getting the full tour and enjoying the company and wine. Given the obvious dedication to the business, I have no doubt they will succeed.

We were at R Wine Bar last night for dinner and as usual it was very exceptional!! I had the pasta alla papalina and ate it all! And, we were able to share a fantastic dessert!! The music was great (although we are biased as our son was playing that night). The wait staff was cordial and attended to our every need. They are always happy and engaging. We look forward to our next visit.

Ricardo and team do a great job to give the diners a great dining experience. High quality food, friendly and fine wine and beer selection. I highly recommend R Wine to all Sioux Fallerites and visitors across the country to this local gem. A wonderful and homey location built in 1900. Welcome to the origins and history of Sioux Falls. We came for a wine tasting with Ricardo and stayed to have dinner! He recommended the Braised Beef and Mushroom Ragu, which was amazing! By far, our best meal in Sioux Falls! Great wine selection! We highly recommend!

Atmosphere is amazing, service is great, and the food couldn't be better! Their pesto is the best!! And I can't go without getting the Cesar Wedge!!

Great place to meet friends and family. Decided to explore this place last minute with my friend. We enjoyed the Charcuterie and the Shatter Grenache! Our server was friendly and very accommodating. My friend is Gluten free and they switched out the bread on the platter without hassle. We also shared a Kang Salad with the house sweet Chili dressing which was the perfect balance of sweet and spicy. Salads, panini and Charcuterie are the name of all the game here in terms of food. Wine choices are acceptable, but don't look for anything too exceptional unless you are willing to jump over to their Riserva list starting at $100.00. They have plenty of room, some fun decor and a "wine wall" for the corks you are given to sign. I would recommend checking this place out I don't think you'll be disappointed.
