"Meanwhile is your summer base camp. It’s easy to get to, whether you’re coming from North, South, or East Austin, or straight off a flight. There’s shaded seating, tons of parking, and more draft beer than you’ll be able to try in a single visit. "Depending on the time of day, Meanwhile Brewing can mean breakfast tacos and coffee (from Pueblo Viejo), a barbecue lunch (from Distant Relatives), or an evening hangout with pizza (from Side Eye Pie). There’s a playground (for kids), a soccer field (for adults), and a stage (for bands). It’s mostly outdoors, anchored around a large patio that feels like an enchanted forest full of trees, and it’s one of our favorite South Austin spots for when we don’t want to deal with tricky parking, expensive drinks, or general rowdiness. We like the German- and Italian-style pilsners here, but you’ll also find every variety of IPA imaginable, as well as stouts, sours, and a very good helles." - nicolai mccrary

"The brewery’s McKinney neighborhood aesthetic — industrial, lots of warehouses — gives drinkers no idea of what’s around the corner with its massive space. Upon arrival, there’s a fancy indoor taproom, a large stage, a soccer field, and perhaps the largest brewery patio area in the Austin city limits. The food trucks are outstanding, with tacos from Pueblo Viejo, barbecue from the award-winning Distant Relatives, pizza from Side Eye Pie, and ice cream from Besame. As for the beer, the two signature offerings are the German-style Pilsner and the Secret Beach San Diego IPA, but with over 20 beers on tap, there is an array of choices. This is a great place for group outings or a brewery visit with kids, although finding a table on weekends can be challenging. A variety of non-beer options (including frozens) are also available at the bar." - Erin Russell
