On the Grid : Lulu’s Thai Noodle Shop

"You can’t miss Lulu’s colorful presence when cruising down Southwest Boulevard, the main drag of the Crossroads. The bustling main dining room is particularly cranking at lunch, when it fills with area professionals, artists, musicians and other creative types hungry for their lunch specials, fruit-infused cocktails and solid craft-beer selection. Their curry and noodle dishes will make you happy, so too the basil fried rice." - Brent Anderson

Nearly three decades in, Lulu’s still channels Bangkok street fare with wok-fired noodles and curries. Featured by Startland News and tapped by the Kansas City Current for CPKC Stadium in 2025, it remains a locally loved, women-owned fixture with multiple metro locations.

Lulu's never lets us down. Tonight we started with Tempura Vegetables and Crab Rangoons. Both were cooked perfectly and oh so tasty. Next we had the Spring Rolls. Very fresh and just wonderful. Then we had the Fried Cashews. What a great dish! I did not think they would be so good, but it was an excellent surprise. The flavors were incredible. Finally we had the Chicken Pad. Tasty, filling and spot on. Can't go wrong.

Sorry this would not be a recommended nor go to spot. I purchased the coconut shrimp and ginger chicken lunch specials. Shrimp was overcooked almost dry, ginger chicken was dry fried and only a few pieces with hardly any vegetables and little to NO sauce. $24 The rice was the only thing cooked perfectly. Pics attached. I'll stick to Bangkok off Metcalf they have the best Ginger chicken. Waited almost eight minutes for someone to take payment

After eating bbq all week I was craving Thai food so I came here based on all the reviews. I’m pretty sure I ordered the wrong thing because it was gross. It’s decorated really cute inside and has a fun vibe. Service was so slooooow. I asked the unfriendly young woman what’s the most common noodle dish people order and she said pad Thai. Ok great, I love pad Thai. It came out and it was clear. Where’s the tamarind sauce? It was so plain and tasted like sugar and vinegar only. I didn’t even finish half the food it was so disappointing. I should’ve known better if the place looks too cute. IYKYK

Food was good. I ordered the Drunken Noodles. The spice levels are from 1 to 4. I requested a 3. It had a little bit of spice....but not too much. I felt like it could have been a little spicier, but then again, I have a high tolerance. Next time I'll ask for #4.

We absolutely loved this restaurant! My wife and I lived in China for almost ten years, so we are familiar with Asian cuisine, and this was very authentic. To start we had dumplings and calamari (i.e. squid), which was incredible! The dumplings were the best we've ever had, including abroad; they were juicy, but not soggy, and their flavor profile was fully preserved. And the squid was perfectly fried, giving it a nice crunch when biting into it, which was a great combination with the naturally soft and chewy texture of the squid. For our main course, I had the Spicy Beef Jantaboon Noodles, and my wife had the Rainbow Peanut Noodles. These were by far the best noodles I've ever had! The best word I have to describe them is "flavorful"; these noodles combined spicy and savory flavors with other elements like the cilantro and scallions that added the occasional bite of fresh or crunchy that really complimented the whole dish. We arrived around 1:00 pm, so it wasn't crowded, but the atmosphere was really great. They really paid attention to their decor, which I appreciated. And the staff was very helpful and friendly. Our waitress knew the menu and was very helpful. She gave us our privacy, but didn't neglect our table. Parking can be difficult to find because of the location downtown, but this food is absolutely worth it! I don't think you can find better Thai food in Kansas City!

Google
The food was excellent, and our waitress Bre provided outstanding service with a constant smile while handling our group of 20+. Highly recommend stopping by and asking for her—10/10!

Google
Very disappointed with this Thai restaurant. The food was bland and lacked authentic flavor. The rice noodle tasted watery. Worst restaurant ever. I would rather eat fast food. Service was slow, and the staff seemed uninterested. Definitely won’t come back.

Google
Great food! Went for Valentine's Day and had wonderful service and got a good deal on a 3 course meal for 2. Drinks are also great! Def my go-to recommendation for Thai or Noodles in downtown KC!

Yelp
I recently went back to Lulu's on a quick trip to KC. It used to be one of my favorite restaurants when I lived there 12 years ago. Good news - it still is! The location in the Crossroads is really great. Love the vibe inside. The pan friend dumplings are delicious. There is something about the crab rangoon filling that is highly addictive. I've never found it anywhere else - and I've scouted. The best dish is the Drunken Noodle. Unlike other places - it's not heavy. The taste is incredible. It's the best I've had... literally anywhere. We might be biased toward the service because we reminisced on the glory days of 96.5 the buzz (beach ball, stole xmas, kegs n eggs, etc.) with our server. But! It was great nonetheless.

Yelp
Lulu always holds a special place in KC restaurant scene. This is the first restaurant I've tried in Kansas City when I moved here back in 2018. Red curry hasn't changed one bit all these years. Toffee (Lulu's staff) was amazing! We ordered Pad Thai & Red curry for dinner. Red curry is so rich in flavor, creamy with a lot of good stuff (beans, peas, shiitake mushrooms, mushrooms, steak, bell pepper etc.,) I really enjoyed it just like I did the first time. Red curry is served with white rice. I couldn't finish all of the curry ended up taking leftovers. Ambiance is always good & less busy since we went late. Finding a parking spot is always tougher at Lulu's and crossroads.

Yelp
I have heard good things about this place but never had been, so I was excited to come here for happy hour on a Tuesday, late afternoon. First thing, when we walked in, we were not greeted or even acknowledged by the host at the counter, he didn't even look up. We just walked right in since we spotted a friend that was meeting us there. Our server made up for the lack of recognition by the host, she was great! Very attentive, speedy and friendly service. I was pleasantly surprised by how great their happy hour drinks are and the portions of the food given. I had two paloma (delicious!) Sriracha shrimp, pork wonton and to go a side of 3 crab Rangoon to go) all for under $35! I also tried the fried avocado, edamame (spicy!) and coconut shrimp. All of the food and sauces were great and tasted fresh. Everyone said there drinks were good too. On the tables they have fresh jalapeños and nuts. I didn't give a large entree noodle meal but will definitely come back to try. Their lunch specials look really good as well. I also like that they have parking close by unlike quite a few places in the area. Might be my new favorite go to!

Yelp
Stopped by and grabbed chicken fried rice with no egg (I'm allergic to egg) and it did not disappoint! It was so flavorful and delicious, one of my favorites in Kansas City! I ordered for take out and it was super quick and efficient. 10/10 experience.

Yelp
In line to see Chappell Roan, we saw two girls bust out Thai food while waiting. Roll goals - RESPECT! We commit the name Lulu's Thai to memory and end up there for dinner the next night. It's a large, fun restaurant in an artist-focused area of KCMO. It can get pretty busy here on a Saturday night so be prepared to wait if the kitchen gets backed up. Big shout out to our server, Hannah, she was lovely. Definitely get the Lulu's Rolls with the sweet chili sauce (orders of 2 or 4 - get 4!). My yellow curry was okay but my niece's KK Wan Kai was the smarter bet - less "creamy" with a little sweetness to it, best served with chicken for protein. If I lived nearby, this would likely be my go to Thai takeout dial. TY, Hannah!

Yelp
Server was very knowledgeable. Food was beautiful, fresh, very good. Really enjoyed the lunch specials as well as dumplings and crab rangoon
google avatar

Yelp
This is a great stop for lunch if you are in the area. The weekday lunch specials are a good deal and the portion seems just right. I came during the work day and the service was so quick. We were definitely in and out in under an hour. The food is about what you expect, very good but not anything special.
google avatar

Cara S.

Yelp
The service here is great, and the food came out very quickly. I thought the lunch portion was good and reasonably priced. However, I don't think this is the best thai food in KC. Their spice level does not seem to align with what it should, with the medium being very mild. Good location with parking and plenty of seating, this is a great choice for a quick workday lunch in midtown.
google avatar

Linda O.

Yelp
I visited the crossroads location. Very limited parking in the lot. Street parking is a challenge. Love the vibe from the moment you enter....calm and relax. There is a bar area and a full service bar. We stopped in for lunch so no drunks Our server was very attentive. Being our first time there we asked for additional time to review the menu. A seasonal menu is also available. We ordered from the lunch menu which was reasonably priced. Our orders arrived quickly and the aromas and flavors of our selections was a delight. Definitely give Lulu's a visit.
google avatar

Kenn K.

Yelp
From my experience I did really much like the food however I did love the atmosphere. I would go again for a small side and good vibes. The service was wonderful! They were very accommodating.
google avatar

Cameron S.

Yelp
A must go. We ordered 3 different entrées, all three were fantastic. I would recommend the pad Thai and drunken noodle. If you want a very soft curry, I recommend the wild mushroom red.
google avatar

Jason G.

Yelp
It's was ok. That sums it up. There was some good flavor in the Pad Thai, but there are better noodle shops. Actually might have been on the salty side. Mango sticky rice was pleasant. Server was attentive. I'd probably come back if it was on the way to somewhere or if I just couldn't decide where to eat. ‍ I DID like the decor, and some of the art on the walls were nice!
google avatar

El B.

Yelp
Isabella, a waitress here during the day was very dismissive, quick to give a check without asking, and smug.
google avatar

Elena M.

Yelp
We let my daughter choose a restaurant today and she picked this place. We started off with a sampler for an appetizer. Everything on the plate lacked flavor. The only thing good was my plate the cashew chicken. I asked for it medium but it was definitely mild. The server seemed busy. She was nice but had too many tables to check on us. When I asked her for something she seemed annoyed. The place looks cool inside just very dusty. Overall we probably won't be coming back for lack of flavor.
google avatar

Vicki W.

Yelp
Decor, service and overall vibes and Lulu's are great! It's a really fun spot with a great selection of drinks and an eclectic menu. Food can be a little bland, you will need to add sauces for a truly flavorful meal. Most recently I stopped in and order the pineapple saki - very good - and sukiyaki, which needed a healthy addition of sriracha and soy sauce. Overall, it's a fun spot for happy hour and I recommend a visit!
google avatar

Matthew Z.

Yelp
The food was great and the spice level was right on point. Staff is great. Only issue was the lack of AC in the back room.
google avatar

Melanie C.

Yelp
It was a busy night but they got us right in. We sat by a cute koi pond. The server was very sweet and attentive. We let her know we didn't have much time and she got our order in right away. The food was beautiful and delicious! Tofu was crispy and seasoned well. The wings were my favorite! They were sweet and spicy. The only negative thing I can say is that she never brought us any napkins but other than that it was a great experience and we will definitely be back!
google avatar

Sydney C.

Yelp
Such a cute place and delicious Thai food. Crab rangoons were delicious, pad Thai was great (I would ask for a higher spice level next time but I added extra chili oil that was at the table) and I also tried my boyfriend's curry dish which was really good.
google avatar

Shae P.

Yelp
A very mid restaurant. Service was okay, however the spice was not at the level that was expected. My friends and I ordered our meals 'medium' but ended up having to add to our dishes to our liking. The restaurant ambiance was really nice. I loved the decor inside the restaurant.

Bradley C.

Yelp
This is not Thai food. Period. This is Thai dishes missing the sauces and flavorings of real Thai. Check out Baramee or tasty Thai. Again, this is not Thai food.
google avatar

Olivia S.

Yelp
I just love the vibe in the Crossroads Lulu's! The decor is funky, eclectic, and a little retro. Lots of plants and cozy booths. It can get pretty hoppin on the weekends, so make a reservation if you plan ahead, but I can typically walk in on weeknights. The lot out front (which I swear used to be Lulu's parking) is now mostly hotel valet parking or parking for other restaurants, so you'll have to find street parking or use the paid garage on 22nd. They have delicious crab rangoons - honestly love their appetizer options. Also highly recommend the shrimp pineapple fried rice. Per the name, their noodle dishes are also delicious. Is this the best Thai food in the city? Probably not. But is it tasty and fun? Yes!

Susan L.

Yelp
The prices keep going up but the quality is dropping. Placed an order for carry out. My chicken with no scallions pad Thai was reinterpreted as "no protein" by the staff. The dish with or without the expected chicken had NO flavor. None of us could taste anything in any of our pad Thai but maybe some olive oil? I think we'll try the new Thai restaurant north of the river instead.
google avatar

Jennifer M.

Yelp
Amazing food! Amazing service! Their corn cakes are so full of flavor! I also ordered PadThai which always makes me smile!
google avatar

Yumi S.

Yelp
We had a great time! The service was excellent. The food was absolutely delicious. However, I was a little disappointed on the serving size when I ordered the pad Thai. There was plenty pieces of shrimp. I just don't know why they are so stingy when it comes to the noodles.
google avatar

Kent S.

Yelp
Went for lunch. It was good. Not amazing, but good. See, I live in Hawaii, and the Thai food here is off the hook, so I am somewhat biased. The restaurant is geared towards a younger set, and somewhat vibey. Walkable from downtown and the convention center, staff friendly, and service was super quick. The building is unassuming, but the bathrooms are clean. Brown rice is made available as an option, and prices are fair. Certainly not a MUST-DO, but a solid choice.
google avatar

Eric C.

Yelp
Very low light outside. Host was uninspired. I didn't notice that the summer rolls were tofu. Never met a summer roll that didn't have shrimp but that's on me. The roll sauce was yellow curry. Also never saw that either. Well below average roll. Yellow curry with chicken was good except the curry itself had a very strong flavour. Not hot just excessive amounts of seasoning. Not my favorite. Waiter was very attentive. Music did not match the cuisine. Actually this could have been any cuisine in the world.
google avatar

Honey T.

Yelp
Come here twice now. I was not a fan of it the first time around and now was reminded of why I didn't like it in the first place. Service was good, atmosphere and decor was beautiful. However, the food lacked flavor and was mild at best. It is westernized Thai cuisine. Calling this place the best Thai food in KC is a WILD claim. $40 bucks for two mid sized bowl of noodles is WILD. I probably would not come back.
google avatar

Julia C.

Yelp
Inconsistant quality, long wait times. It's incumbent on yourself to know what good Thai is as this is not it.
google avatar

Jennifer T.

Yelp
We loved your food R Lulu's. I had basil fried rice with tofu - the best flavor! 100% recommend.
google avatar

Amanda I.

Yelp
Parking - is terrible, good luck finding a spot on the street. Ambiance- this place is super quaint and pretty neat inside. They place garlic and onion bowls around the restaurant to hone in the aromas of the food. Food - we tried several dishes and overall the food is good. The heat is not your standard Thai heat - medium is mild so if you want some heat go hot. You will not leave hungry as the portions are a good size.
google avatar

Regina S.

Yelp
I've heard great things about Lulu's and had been dying to try it. Stopped like one hour before they closed so I felt bad and was expecting to be rushed out but NO. All staff was super nice. Everything on the menu looked super yummy! I went with the pad thai and the sampler appetizer plate. It was soooooo good, my mouth is watering just thinking about them. I will be back and definitely recommend. Their drink menu looked great too, will definitely be trying it in the near future.
google avatar

Denicia N.

Yelp
Disappointed...not the flavors I wanted I would say bland and not spicy when I ordered "hot". Almost like they forgot to add any hot spice. I will not be back.
google avatar

Zachary S.

Yelp
My wife was craving Thai while visiting around Thanksgiving and landed on this place for lunch after some research. Lulu's did not disappoint! Everything tasted amazing from the Pad Se Eu my wife ordered to my spicy Beef Jantaboon, the wait staff made good recommendations for the kids, and they had a good variety of lunch specials. I could see us being regulars for work lunches, if we lived in the area. Plus there's free parking right next door.
google avatar

Emma E.

Yelp
I enjoy coming to Lulus Thai Noodle Shop and picking up dinner to enjoy from home. There is not the best of parking, however it is manageable. Most recently, I tried the Pad Thai. This dish was very good, especially the noodles. It was flavorful and and a good amount of meat. Pick up orders can be done pretty quickly and service is good enough. The outside and inside it cute and decorated nicely. They have indoor seating and a bar area. I would recommend checking out a few dishes when yoh are here.
google avatar

Kelsey A.

Yelp
Immediately when you walk into the restaurant you are greeted by a very friendly staff with a zen pond in the middle of the restaurant to set the mood. Parking was a bit of a hike, there is a paid parking garage down the street but you have to hike up to the restaurant from there. Especially with the busy hotel right across the street and their valet parking. The food was alright but not great for the price. I would recommend trying the sampler to get a little taste of everything to see what you like overall. I will say the crab in the crab Rangoon was REAL crab! Would absolutely recommend those to everyone.
google avatar

Bri'e D.

Yelp
Great spot for delicious Thai-inspired dishes! I tried the drunken noodles and a crab rangoon, paired with the Empress cocktail : a tasty gin-based drink. I also had a great time chatting with Ben, the bartender, who happens to be Lulu's son. The atmosphere is simple yet clean, and the bathroom was spotless. Definitely worth a visit!"
google avatar

N S.

Yelp
Ambiance in the art loft district. What a great find w a happy hour for drinks and appetizers! The Thai basil was authentic and very tasty w steak on it. Tried the lulu platter appetizer and it was so awesome we ordered even more. The added salad to entree was perfect if u want to get ur daily greens in. Service was excellent. Everything about thr place was a five. Added bonus was the wall paper on the bathroom wall the tuktuk zssss. Reminded me of my visit to Thailand

Alex P.

Yelp
For the curry, I think I got mushroom. I was impressed with the freshness, and abundance of vegetables. The pork which was suggested by the waiter was OK. It's basically cha siu. It was a good portion. Atmosphere is fun and retro. The Thai coffee was not that strong thankfully, a little watery, but also a large portion that I could not finish. Fun place and friendly service
google avatar

Nelu R.

Yelp
Came across Lulu's walking around Kansas City and so glad we stopped in! We were pleasantly surprised by the fun atmosphere and big portions! The lettuce wraps were amazing, as were the curried coconut shrimp and chicken noodles we shared. The service was super fast and super friendly. The only thing I wasn't a fan of was the egg flower soup which I expected to be like egg drop soup but didn't taste at all like egg drop soup.
google avatar

Jillian P.

Yelp
The service was okay. The ambiance was definitely the best part about this place, it's beautifully decorated! The pad thai was weirdly sour? I had to send it back, and I very rarely do that. My friend's crab fried rice was really good though! I wouldn't come back, but it was a pretty place at least!
google avatar

Kitty Y.

Yelp
My expectations were low already since we were in Missouri eating Thai food but I was still very disappointed. We ordered Lulu's rolls and they came out relatively quickly. They were pork filled and the sauce was good. We also ordered the appetizer sampler to start and that didn't come out until after the entrees were almost done and after we reminded the waitress we ordered it. By that time none of us were hungry anymore so we didn't really eat much of it. What I did try wasn't anything to write home about. It was very standard stuff and not very flavorful. I got the bahn mi bowl from their special menu. It was a big bowl of rice with some dry and flavorless chicken with slices of avocado. I expected some pickled carrots or daikon like bahn mis usually have. It came with barely a sprinkle of that. It did come with 2 bowls of sauces which I actually had to use because there really was no flavor. Also for some reason it came with a boiled egg cut in half. I'm not sure why since it made the whole bowl drier. People at my table got the peanut noodles and the pad se eu. The portions looked small since they put it on a plate instead of a bowl. The peanut noodles probably got the best reviews from the table. We also ordered the Tom yum soup which isn't my favorite in general so I couldn't judge. My friend who ordered it said it was lacking in flavor. The food was on par with what I expected from a Missouri Thai spot. What I didn't expect was the really horrible service we got. We were a table of 5 and made a reservation. When we came in they had no record of this reservation. They just sat us in the back corner which was fine. But since they had a divider from the front of the restaurant to the back, the wait staff could never see us unless they came to the back. We felt like we were ignored the entire time. We ordered drinks which slowly came out after we reminded them. As mentioned before, the sampler came out much later than everything else and barely got an apology. The place itself is very fusion and stylish. Reminded me of any new restaurant in Williamsburg. I think that just more effort could have been spent on the food rather than the decor. Maybe on a different night and if we were sat in the front, this would have been a different experience. After this experience, I wouldn't come here again.
google avatar

Glen M.

Yelp
Pad Thai was delicious and great spice and heat. Adding this to my Asian cravings must stops.
google avatar

Marissa S.

Yelp
The downtown location is hit or miss. Today it was great! Usually only order carryout from here, but the few times I've dined in have been good for me, nothing super memorable - there's a quiet and dim lit interior. Carryout was ready in no time, and they didn't skimp on the portions. Parking is a little iffy, depending on the day, but there is a garage further down if no street spots are available. Ordered springs rolls, drunken noodles with tofu (medium spice), and Tom yum (medium spice). Everything was flavorful, and super tasty - especially the drunken noodles. They added the perfect amount of veggies, tofu, and sauce! The spring rolls were light and fresh, and the Tom yum packed a flavorful punch! Although, I think their medium spice level is more on the mild side, so take that into account if you're a fan of spicy foods. Overall, I'm a fan of lulus. Admittedly, it's not the most consistent as far as spice level, flavor profiles. But it usually makes for a good and filling lunch.
google avatar

Mark W.

Yelp
Awesome friendly service, fresh vibe outside, great experience over all All of the food had a great fresh taste! Presentation was amazing

Dionne T.

Yelp
The fired rice was not very good. It was just rice that was dry and not very tasty. I was expecting better.
google avatar

Nina D.

Yelp
I was honestly a little disappointed. I had heard so many great things about this restaurant and had such high hopes. I ordered the Vietnamese Fresh Spring Rolls and Pad Thai. The spring rolls were a little dry and there was a lot of vermicelli relative to other fillings. I felt the tofu was also very dry and I didn't love the curry peanut sauce that came with it. The Pad Thai had barely any flavor and I couldn't taste that sweet/peanut flavor that you usually see in other pad Thais I've had. I also felt this was primarily noodles with little other veggies and toppings. However, the staff made our orders very promptly and did a great job taking into account allergies and labeling everything.
google avatar

Thu P.

Yelp
It was my second time trying this place and I still enjoy it! I came here a year ago and remembered the portion sizes being bigger but was a bit disappointed today when they were smaller. We got chicken lettuce wraps, it tasted very healthy and fresh but a bit bland. I got the pad see eu and enjoyed it. It was a bit too salty for my taste and the noodles were very chewy. I expected a bit spicier for a thai place but when I asked for medium, it was very mild. The service was good but our appetizers and entrees sort of came out at the same time. The decorations are cute and music was hip. I would honestly recommend a more authentic thai place than Lulu's but the location of the place is great for everyone to try it!
google avatar

Acucar R.

Yelp
Me and my boyfriend came to vist Lulus in the crossroads district in KC. Immediately when we walked in we were greeted warmly by the staff and sat quickly. The vibes inside are inviting and feel fresh with all the vegetation. We orders Vietnamese spring rolls with a peanut sauce to start. I love the peanut sauce it was different than others i've tried almost curried so good. We then had a tomka soup that was light and refreshing. Our mains were the phad thai and cashew chicken at a medium spicy, i'd personally made e go even spicer. over all so good and the staff is all kind and great servers. Thank you Lulus!

Yelp
The food was very tasty and the spice on point. Do try this Thai fusion food in the heart of Kansas city!
