Bread Face Will Press Her Face Into Bread at Seattle Art Fair | Eater Seattle

"At this weekend's Seattle Art Fair, I'm seeing an interactive installation called Self Facing by social media star Bread Face (who has nearly 200,000 Instagram followers for videos of her smashing her face into bread). Attendees are encouraged to play with the bread however they'd like, and the altered baked goods—made by Bread Face and her mom—will be part of the display; showtimes for Self Facing are at CenturyLink Field Event Center. The exhibition, according to the press release, touches on themes ongoing in her evolving oeuvre including somatic materials, domesticity and voyeurism, and Bread Face is being billed as the star of the Seattle show—a notable distinction in a city that often prefers its gluten-free options. Her work divides opinion: some find it ASMR-inducing, others dismiss it as a silly stunt, though it has been lucrative (she once had a jewelry sponsor and was featured in AdWeek)." - Gabe Guarente

I attended the Seattle Art Fair with high expectations, but sadly, it fell far short of what I had hoped for. The artworks on display were mediocre at best, and I was expecting to see more innovative and thought-provoking pieces. Moreover, the lighting in some areas was poor, making it hard to appreciate the artwork properly. There was no seating available anywhere, which made it exhausting to spend an extended amount of time at the fair, especially considering the entrance fee. I was also disappointed by the lack of engaging activities or interactive installations, which are common in other art fairs. It seemed like a missed opportunity to enhance the overall experience for visitors. Furthermore, the artists appeared unenthusiastic adding to the overall lackluster atmosphere of the event. It would have been nice to see passionate individuals who could provide insights or answer questions about the artists and their works. Overall, the Seattle Art Fair left me underwhelmed and dissatisfied. For the price of admission, I expected a more captivating and memorable experience.

It is pretty mid, they took away my pepper spray even though I am literally 5”0 and 90lbs and literally won’t be using it for anything other than defending myself if need be while walking around the neighborhood it is held in, Pioneer Square. The art is all for sale and it does feel like it. Hardly any information about the artworks or process, though one can talk to the artist if they are present there.

Yelp
Amazing art pieces at a very large venue. Would come back next year! I really like the open space and the unique collection of artists participating.
