The 20 Best Bars In Mexico City - Mexico City - The Infatuation

"If you’re looking for mezcal cocktails, or drinks made with less common agave spirits like lechuguilla or bacanora, Tlecan is your spot. All of the drinks are made with Mexican ingredients like chile or hoja santa, and they have a great, albeit small, food menu, too. We like the tuna tostadas and their take on burrata, which is actually made of queso oaxaca and requesón. It’s (mostly) standing-room only with just a few stools, which is a great excuse to bop around the bar and chat with some strangers." - guillaume guevara

Where to Taste Mezcal in Mexico City

"In Roma I found a mezcalería that helped earn Mexico City international cocktail attention: Tlecān, a 50 Best Bars-listed spot named for the Náhuatl “place of fire” that celebrates Mexican heritage in both menu and decor. Earthen hues, clay pottery textures and a reverence for Prehispanic culture (including the iconic Disc of Death sculpture) evoke the desert landscapes where agave grows, while artisanal agave distillates sourced from small, independent producers are showcased both as neat pours and in inventive cocktails. Co-owner Eli Martínez, formerly head bartender at Pujol, designed a standing-room-only menu that highlights distillate differences—signature drinks include the Paloma Blanca (carbonated clarified grapefruit juice, mezcal, lime, and grapefruit salt) and the Tascalate Sour, inspired by an ancient Chiapas beverage; reservations are suggested though not required." - Lauren Mowery

Google
This was likely the coolest aesthetic I’ve ever seen in a bar. Terra cotta everywhere, incense burning — they absolutely nailed the Aztec vibe. It feels immersive and totally different from any other spot in Mexico City. Yes, there’s a line, but they move it along efficiently. Once inside, be ready for standing room only since seating is very limited — but honestly, it adds to the energy of the place. The drinks were fantastic. I highly recommend the Negroni — their mezcal twist makes it incredibly unique and one of the best I’ve had anywhere. A must-visit bar if you’re into creative cocktails and unforgettable atmospheres.

Google
Tlecān is one of the most unique bar experiences in Mexico City. The moment you walk in, the atmosphere feels almost ritualistic — dim lighting, incense, and beautiful pre-Hispanic design elements that make the space feel intimate and special. The music is also pretty unique, they played a mix of old school Mexican tunes. The sound is great. The bartenders are skilled and focused on agave spirits. The cocktails feel creative without being gimmicky. Favorites were the Paloma Blanca and the Pulque Colada, both perfectly balanced but I wouldn't say they're out of this world. It does get crowded, and most people end up standing because the space is small, but the energy is great. If you love mezcal or want to explore Mexico’s traditional spirits in a sophisticated, cultural setting, this place is a must.

Google
Excellent drinks and service. The cocktails were excellent. We enjoyed a pulque colada, tasqualte sour, and margarita. All were delicious. They will allow you to scan the QR code for the wifi and menu. There may be a wait but it wasnt too long for us on a weekday. The atmosphere is very nice and you will enjoy Tlecan.

Google
I went to Tlecan with my husband and had an incredible time. It was more than just a nice cocktail bar, it was an experience. The service was impeccable and the cocktails delicious. We even got to try traditional fried grasshopper which was delicious. I would recommend Tlecan to anyone to likes a good cocktail and a good time!

Google
Superb, unique and local. The cocktails were wonderful, the mezcal selection top notch and our server had great recommendations. We had the Negroni, Colada and Carajillo. We’ll be coming back to try more! The ambiance was fun and cozy, a bit loud but it was Saturday night.

Google
I was there tonight when Pablo Pinata was there guest bartending so it was quite busy. Overall good experience. Nice mezcal. A bit crowded.

Google
Number 20 in the World according to World’s Best Bars! Definitely love the vibe and atmosphere of this place. The red lighting showcasing the bartenders is a vibe. The bartenders here are fantastic and so talented. We got here early enough to get bar seats. They don’t take reservations so plan accordingly! The mezcal is highlighted at this bar and I enjoyed all of my drinks. The Negroni Cacao is a great spirit forward drink that makes a lovely night cap. Overall, this is my kind of bar and would love to go back!!

Google
I made my way there twice on my trip to Mexico City. The bartenders worked so nice and smooth. Roberta the waitress was rocking it. Every time I looked around she was serving someone new. The drinks are completely one of a kind. Being from Las Vegas I had to order their version of certain drinks. Their Espresso, Paloma, and Mojito are a must.

Yelp
This location is so comfortable and tucked in the busy streets of Mexico but the drinks that were created were fantastic and delicious. Wonderful presentation and amazing service, the options are only what's on the menu so you have limited selection but unique choices!

Yelp
Inventive drinks --- all Mezcal based. They do have a few small selection of nonalcoholic drinks, but they batch their cocktails so NA options are limited. I would say their best drink was their version of peach margarita --- garnished with a fresh peach slice. It was magnanimous.

Yelp
This is a must! It's small and intimate and BUSY! When I tell you I brushed up on everyone on the walk to the bathroom I'm not joking! It was late Saturday evening and we were waiting to get in. While we waited someone took our order. Eventually people left and we were able to move to the bar. The bartenders were awesome and the drinks were by far my favorite! I saw pots in the back and asked a worker what they had and he brought me all the snacks, one of which included the traditional chapulines grasshoppers and they were seasoned well. I don't know if this place takes reservations but it's worth the wait!

Yelp
Amazing bar!! Vibes are on-point. Appreciate that they take walk-in (standing room only), so a more casual atmosphere. Space can be a little limited, can be crowded during peak hours. But worth the check-out. Some of the best mezcal drinks I've ever had!

Yelp
Came here sunday night and we waited in line for about 15 min. Drinks were excellent and the ambiance was casual and fun. Recommend coming here for a night out.

Yelp
We were able to walk in early around 8 pm on a Saturday night and snag a spot for two, which was a nice surprise. The vibe here is definitely a highlight--cool and fun with a smoky, dark, and intimate vibe. The space is small but filled with unique, interactive art pieces that add to the experience. We started with some complimentary spicy peanuts seasoned with red mole, which paired perfectly with our drinks. For cocktails, we tried: 1. Tascalate Sour - This drink had a delightful egg foam on top, with a delicious cinnamon flavor and just the right amount of sweetness from cacao. 2. Margarita Kauil - A spicy take on a classic margarita with very good salt on the rim and refreshing citrus notes. The service was good and attentive, though as the night went on and the place got more crowded, it became a bit harder to track down our server. Overall, while the drinks were good, it's the vibe that makes this place. The unique atmosphere makes it a spot worth visiting on trip to Mexico.

Yelp
The palo santo burning at the door, the ambient red lighting from behind the bar, the beautiful decor and the incredible playlist. Whoever designed this vibe deserves to sleep with a cool pillow every night cause this bar is sick. The service was super friendly as servers are walking around to make ordering drinks easy as it is a little small in there. And they dropped off some homemade veg chips for snacking. Drinks were fantastic. I got the Colada Milk Punch and it was so delicious.

Yelp
Super busy!! I would rather wait longer and have a seat than be packed in so much, especially given that we went there on a Sunday night. Drinks were good but nothing special.

Yelp
VERY COOL place!! Couldn't be more my vibe. Was a little too packed to enjoy the ambiance but nevertheless we were excited to try. Enjoyed the music and ambiance and watching the bartenders make drinks. Only reason for rating is that we ordered 5 different cocktails and none were actually spectacular. We love all mezcal with a passion (frequent Oaxaca and purchasing mezcal bottles), but a few of our drinks visually looked similar (weird) and tasted like 90% mezcal 10% juice/soda water. The alcohol was super strong and very unbalanced, kind of cringed trying to finish them. One had a little Chile and was the most acceptable, but overall we were hoping for more. No lovely Oaxacan style cocktail crafting here. Like have been that we picked just the wrong drinks, but with a limited menu just not sure what else we could have done. Would return once they adjust their cocktails to be more balanced. Asked server for the bill but he proceeded to chat w a group next to us.. sharing instagrams, leisurely talking while we were trying to leave. Had to flag down someone else who then got the server to finally make his way to get our bill. But server had a cool aesthetic vibe/style that fit in with the place, just wish he would have moved a lil faster.

Yelp
Miguel was an awesome bartender! He was very attentive and knowledgeable. He customized the first round to my taste and did a great job still making the cocktail perfectly balanced. Im not sure if this was just because it wasn't too busy but he explained every ingredient in the cocktail and gave us tiny samples of each which was a really great experience. As someone who likes to mix drinks at home I really appreciated the breakdown of the drinks. Highly recommend coming to Tlecan, both the drinks and service are

Yelp
Came here due to the cool interior design and mezcal selection, thinking it would be a cute cocktail bar. This place blew my expectations out of the water! The scenary is modern but ancient in their use of aztec scuptures. The servers here are highly educated in mezcal, speak really good english, and make great recommendations based on your preference profile. Eduardo in particular was worthy enough to be a Mezcal Sommelier in my opinion. While I wish I tried more food than the free snacks they provide, I was beyond ecstatic with the drinks I had. I may have had the smoothest paloma in my life here! As if the ice was made from a glacier and the ingredients were fresh as could be with the smooth as silk tequila. I could see this place being dangerous after a few cocktails! The mezcal selection may not be ginormous, but I guarantee you they will have a variety of flavors that stretch across the canvas of life. I ended up trying some mezcal that bloomed of roses as well as of earth and vegetables. It was truly unique stuff that I normally don't get a chance to try.

Yelp
Our favorite mezcal spot, servers are great and try to serve you as fast as they can. All drinks are well made and strong, love the small snacks mixed with chapulines. The decor and music is very unique and once that mezcal kicks in you really feel transported to another world. Only thing that we dislike is the lack of stools and how packed it can get at times.

Yelp
We came here after a recommendation from a foodie tour guide (Queso). We were immediately greeted at the door and walked to the bar. We found a spot by the bar and they gave us water and a snack mix (they should be selling this by the bag. It was so good and spicy). The bar keepers were attentive and the drinks were delicious. I highly recommend this bar.

Yelp
Had the best mezcal cocktail ever. Everyone was really kind in their service and hospitality, from the "bouncer" up front to the bartenders and servers.

Yelp
What a fun place. Love the vibe, service and of course the mezcal. A local friend recommended the place ... glad we went even though there were no Yelp reviews ... before this. We weren't sure which mezcals to order and so we just asked the bartender. She brought tastes of three different mezcals and we picked from those as per our preferences. Great service! Very nice people. No ... this not my first time at a mezcaleria. But I'm more of a tequila person and so often need help picking mezcals. These guys helped! When we first entered it felt very Smokey (incense smoke, not cigarettes). But it goes with their vibe :) Overall loved the place and will recommend to my friends. High NPS, huh :)

Yelp
Cocktail bar with a cool vibe and friendly staff. Ok weekend nights, can be a bit of a wait to get in. It's a cozy space but good ac for the summertime. Drinks are tasty but not very strong. More of a chill standing crowd but could see it getting a bit more dancey later in night if there's open space.

Yelp
Love this place, so cool, beautifully designed. Was walking by one night a few months ago and decided to check it out. Great mezcal selection great cocktails, the BEST service. They really try to make you feel at home. Always good music and ambiance. My favorite is the Paloma Blanca, (best Paloma I've ever had) but you can't go wrong. Definitely new favorite bar.

Yelp
Everything about this place is GREAT. Had the best, most buttery, mezcal here and a tasty twist on a Negroni.

Tom K.

Yelp
The vibe is good, the server was excellent and the cocktails are great. On the expensive side though

Yelp
Best mezcaleria in CDMX. Chic spot with a super knowledgeable staff. Super exclusive mezcals and sotols readily available for the timid and the adventurous drinkers. Ask for Eduardo.

Salvador R.

Yelp
One of the coolest new bars in CDMX. Definitely the best mezcalería in town now. Delicious "Tacos Rojos".
