The 38 Best Restaurants in Mumbai, India | Eater

"No restaurant list in Mumbai is complete without a mention of Britannia, the Irani cafe that made mutton berry pulao a household name in the city. Made with tart zereshk berries (barberries) from Iran and tender pieces of lamb, the dish has remained consistent in a city that’s changing constantly. While it’s no longer an affordable order for the average Mumbaikar, eating a portion is a rite of passage. Pair with Pallonji’s soda and an order of dhansak (lentils stewed with lamb) for a nostalgic lunch in south Mumbai. For nearly a century, the restaurant was overseen by the beaming face of Boman Kohinoor, the third-generation owner and a city icon who saw the restaurant open in 1923 and died in 2019." - Sumedh Natu

The good is really good their service is also fast, but it is super super expensive. I wanted to try their chicken berry pulav but they didn't had small portion pr half plate only on big plate of 5-6 chicken pieces in 700 Rs which is too much for a single person to eat. They should start giving half portions also. Then I tried their sali mutton keema which was really good in taste.

Lovely place with an old world charm. Serves good parsi food and other delicacy. You should try their Raspberry drink and their Berry Pulao. The place is crowded during peak lunch hours but the service is very decent. Restaurant takes only Cash and no online transactions are allowed hence please carry cash with you.

I loved the staff, super friendly and understanding. Although its charm has faded a bit, as they haven't maintained it enough, definitely its history is something worth. The food is nice, although expensive and little less in quantity than expected. We had Mutton Biryani, Mutton Cutlet and Caramel Custard. As they are known for their only Parsi cuisine, the food being on the sweeter end, including the curries, might not be a great option for spicy food lovers.

Ambience was really nice because of the authentic atmosphere. The waiter was a nice and kind guy and knew how to sell things to us. We had the prawn specialty with berries. It was okay but a bit overhyped. Also everything was pretty expensive.

Ridiculously unwelcoming staff and exorbitant pricing sums up my experience at Britannia. I've visited almost all the major Parsi/irani restaurants in the city but Britannia gave me a reason not to visit again. Was in and around Ballard estate and thought this was the opportunity to try the famous Britannia & co. It was around noon so wasn't hungry just wanted to experience the place. It was almost empty just one or two tables full here and there. Ordered for a lemonade but the waiter stood behind literally on our heads to order food to which I said no and it took no time for him to place the bill on our table which according to the rules at Britannia and co means you are requested to empty the table as others might be waiting (There was no waiting at that point). I also ordered the beverage before the time it states on their menu rulebook (before 1230 and after 330 beverages and snack-only orders allowed) yet the sour experience. Also the menu prices as compared to other Parsi eateries in the city are very high. I get it being one of the most famous one among the lot but it still doesn't justify the rates also being cash only. With such an attitude of staff a visit again feels like a far fetched thought for me.

If you’re of persian origin (or just love barberries/zereshk), this place is a gem! their “berry pulao” is basically zereshk polo with an Indian twist. super unique and really tasty. we ordered one portion and it was enough for two. The owner and his daughter Diana are so warm and welcoming, which made the experience even better. definitely worth a visit 👍

Hands down - this is an absolutely precious place that must be visited. One must eat here. One must sit and revel in the charm, the grace, the serenity, the unabashed quirkiness, and the sheer delight of this restaurant - this establishment. It is as if one enters a sublime dreamworld. The owners are gems, and named thus. Mr Afsin Kohinoor and his daughter, Diana exude the grace, charm, kindness, intelligence, serenity, courtesy and excellent service in a world that needs more of their kind. All the folks here and the waiters are courteous, polite, well-mannered, and dignified. Excellent, top-notch, delicious food that brings a smile to one's face and the raspberry soda is a delight. I had their chicken sandwiches and raspberry soda one afternoon, and their chicken cutlet and raspberry soda on the second day. I hope to visit again. One can write stories - indeed one should write stories about this place if one can. It is not just a restaurant - it is one of a kind place.

As we were in Mumbai, we had to try this iconic place. Ambience wise it was good. Food taste was good but our expectations were higher given the hype of the place. Nevertheless, any visitors from outside should try atleast once.
