Long overdue review for my favorite neighborhood cafe in SF. Cafe du Soleil is one of those places that is magical no matter the time of the year. Though the Equator coffee beans and healthy salads are always fantastic, what the Cafe really excels in is its authenticity and charm. The owners and staff treat their long time customers like family. No matter what’s happening in the outside world, you can expect to leave Cafe Du Soleil caffeinated and smiling. You can’t put a price on a place as charming as this.

Food was so good!!! Might be the best French toast I’ve had—perfect crust on the outside and almost custard-y inside. And the chicken bacon Gruyère sandwich was savory and delicious. Note: everyone in the cafe was on the laptops, so it seems like lots of ppl come here to work

My favourite and best place in San Francisco for years now. I was a regular at the beginning of their venture and spent days and evenings there working or with friends. Staff and especially owner super nice. I can only highly recommend that place. I wished the owner would open the same in London :))

Sweet little spot to seat for a pastry and coffee- must say that the coffee is not the best… got a flat white and the coffee tasted bitter. Croissant was good but it was more a puff pastry as it lacked the flakiness/airiness of a typical croissant.

The cafe offer a gorgeous vibe of a French bistro combined with picturesque view to San Francisco Victorian homes and accompanied by absolutely delicious coffee and food. We had some pastry which name I fail to remember, it was buttery, raspberry, and fluffy; salmon quiche (I would add some feta to it, btw), lemon eclair, and late. And I do recommended every single item of that list.

Love this place! I think I am addicted to their classic avocado toast ;-) Service is warm, friendly and fast. Beautiful sun streams in through the windows. Their baked goods are top-notch. Sparkling wine, delicious. Salads, marvelous. (There is even a great pet store, The Animal House, across the street for all your furry pal needs after you devour that croissant.) What I do not love: the herd of laptop users hogging table space and not eating anything, their drink cooling as they type-type-type. I know, I know, we are in Tech Central, but man, how much extra space do you need? Getting a spot for 2 on a weekend or even a weekday sure ain't easy, yo. It's become such a high-tech silver battleground that I avoid it most of the time now, and that's good for avocados, I guess? Sad face.

I strolled into Cafe du Soleil for an Americano - and stayed for breakfast. This was the first time I'd been in their newer digs since they moved across the street, 4 years ago? The space has a really good energy, sunlight streaming in through expansive windows and golden wood throughout, from the counter and bakery case to the bench seating. Apparently their avocado toast with eggs ($12.50) is their signature dish but instead ordered two scrambled eggs and bacon. The eggs were fresh but no one whisked them. They were overly scrambled, curds too broken while the egg whites were in small chunks. It wasn't good. I debated asking them to remake them - but would feel foolish telling them how to make scrambled eggs. Oh well, next time I'll have the quiche? Baked goods looked scrumptious and so pretty, the display sorely tempted me. The Americano was just right. Edith Piaf sang sad songs for the perfect pitch of French ambience while this nicely populated neighborhood spot hummed on a Wednesday morning.

I've been a devoted fan since they opened in their original location across the street, replacing a biker bar and their revving engines at 2am. So yeah, big fan. Not just because of the lovely French atmosphere, but the wonderful owner Mustapha, and of course, the food! Now that they're in the old Thai restaurant space, they have an actual kitchen, all the better to add the "World's Greatest Roast Chicken" to the menu. Comes with a side salad and bread, highly recommend. I'm there many mornings for the avocado toast, simple, yet elegant. Perfectly ripe avocado slices with a splash of olive oil. The cafe is my mandatory stop before any road trip, picking up a couple custom baguette sandwiches. I'm talking to you salami and cornichon flavor bombs. The sun hits the outdoor tables early, calling out people to unplug their laptops and get some fresh air. Hey, maybe even have conversations with live people in person. Yeah, makes me crazy that the place sometimes appears like a satellite office, no problem, if people would limit their table time and better yet, keep ordering food, not just milking a latte. Anyway, le Cafe du Soleil is destination worthy. 100% recommend.

I'm so glad this place opened again, It' on the other side of the street but basically the same location. I think it might even be slightly bigger. The café isn't open late like it used to be but hopefully that will change. They have a good number of tables to sit outside. Nothing beats sitting outside a café with a mug of coffee and people watching. I like that they have French onion soup and macarons. There is a pet supply store across the street which I like to stop in because they have a store cat that's always wandering around or napping in the front window.

Ambiance 5/5 - cozy inside with lots of seating options and a nice display case of both savory and sweet pastries. Food 5/5 - we came here for breakfast on a weekday, my friend got the fantastic French toast which was dense, moist, and decadently dripped in strawberry sauce with sliced strawberries and banana on top. I got the croquette madame which comes with a fried egg on top and ham and cheese between two pieces of toast. Both were extremely filling. The americano coffee was fine and the cappuccino was good (a little pricey at $5.) I liked that they served us in real mugs. The pastry selection was quite large - will have to try a croissant next time! Not sure if it has WiFi but there was someone working around 7:30am.

Delicious pastries and drinks, plentiful seating, great service, and ample sunlight -- is this the perfect neighborhood cafe? Seems like a lovely community gathering spot for those who are studying, working, catching up with friends, or soaking in the sun. Staff was friendly and very efficient. My latte was the average SF price but very delicious. This cafe was one of the first recommendations I received for Lower Haight, and I totally see why now. Would absolutely return to try the rest of their menu. :)

This is a cozy little coffee shop that I often visit in the mornings for a coffee and a bite to eat. Their sandwiches, French toast, and almond croissants are great. The owner is impressive, having worked hard to build a beloved spot in the neighborhood. This place was recently the victim of an armed robbery, which is very unlikely to happen in this area. Definitely worth visiting! Show support for the owner and his business.

I needed a spot to take a video call and was grateful to grab a spot outside so that I wouldn't bother anyone inside. Pros: -Free wifi! Strong enough to sustain a zoom. -Friendly service -Accessible bathroom -Parking in the area is easy Cons: -I ordered a matcha latte, but it was really green tea in a latte. I appreciated that it wasn't sugary, but it didn't have the earthiness of real matcha. Overall, a great spot to gather or post-up for a bit. I was not alone when it came to needing to get some work done at their tables and appreciated the space.

Great spot to do work at; they have wifi and ample seating, but beware NO OUTLETS! If you come charged, you can spend a good few hours here with some drink/food! The hours are decent too for a cafe, closing around 5pm.

This was the perfect spot to spend on a sunny day. The service was great; the staff was friendly and our food came out quickly after we ordered. Despite coming around 11 am on a Sunday, the cafe wasn't overly crowded; it was busy, but my friend and I easily found a seat outside to chat and hang out for an hour and a half. We shared the Tortilla Espagnol with avocado and the French Toast; both were delicious and the portions were generous for the pricepoint.

Very cute, bright, well-appointed cafe. Lots of people ordering, then curling up at a table with a laptop. The food is good - French fare. I've tried the quiche lorraine and tortilla espagnol. Good coffee drinks. They allow dogs inside - at least my good, well-behaved, silent doggy. Otherwise, I would go elsewhere. Highly recommend - a very pleasant place to hang out and chill.

It's very close to the Muni Stop. Was walking when I spotted this cute kilt cafe! We had the chocolate and hazelnut croissant, a cappuccino, the hummus and veggies open faced sandwich and the mushroom quiche! Everything was delicious!! And the service was great! The lady at the counter taking orders was just so delightful and kind!

Came here on a rainy day and was surprised to see it packed. Seems like a popular work from home spot, which also means quite hard getting a seat on a weekday especially during lunch. The french onion soup was flavored, but dare I say a little too much cheese that most of my scoops were just hardened globs of cheese. Cappuccino was delicious and so was the pastry! Would come in again but this time take it to go and eat outside near the park :)

I love this place! Only been here once but will definitely come again. Their pastries are the real deal - first and best salmon quiche I've ever tried. Their chai latte isn't too sweet or watered down. Cashier was really nice, and the music and wifi just make this place an ideal hangout. One possible gripe is lack of AC, since the place does tend to heat up when sun is out.

Wanted to like this place. Will probably give it another chance. Came in for just a single espresso to go. Sat right in front of the guy making it. Apparently he put it down on the side counter without saying a word. I sit there for about 15 mins and after seeing him directly hand coffee to other people who were there after me i get up confused and try to ask where my coffee is. He ignores me as he chats with someone. I then notice a coffee on the counter and ask if it's mine. Again ignored. I take it and i leave. $4 for a single espresso and i even tipped $1 bc they seemed nice. They were not. Again, it's in my neighborhood and had cool vibes so I will probably be back but not a great first experience. Coffee was fine though

Cafe Du Soleil is a wonder reopening of the business which was formerly a San Francisco institution just across the street, where the new Taragon Cafe is now. The new cafe is packed with available seating and a central dining table for eight, or for spreading your morning edition of the San Francisco Chronicle. Their limited menu is what you'd find at a classic bistro, coffee, tea and pastries. The exterior patio has six two person tables setup in a cute peach pink, with two sun umbrellas in a classic French bistro style. Lovely place to get a coffee before work.

I came for a quick Friday lunch with some friends and enjoyed my croque monsieur! The wait wasn't too long, and we enjoyed sitting outside to enjoy the warm weather. My friend was able to get a significant amount of work done as well, so it's conducive for remote work, although the tables inside are a little close together (maybe not the best for meetings). The food was good, ambiance was pleasant, and the service was great too!

Owner is super nice and his employees are always so welcoming. I always get a Iced Chai Tea Latte w/ oat milk and a cheese danish, literally my to-go breakfast! The cafe is usually not so busy in the morning but in the afternoon till closing they are pretty busy and the sun hits the building so we'll that you can even sit outside and enjoy your meal/drink. 10/10 recommend.

It's a cute little gem in lower haight. We were here on a weekday evening and were surprised by the beautiful outdoor patio. The vegetarian pizza was delicious (the base is not the regular pizza base but a really puffy pastry one). The coffee was really good too. They also have beer and some other drinks. It's the perfect cafe to sit outdoors on a warmer day!

I'm so excited that Cafe du Soleil, in Lower Haight at Waller X Fillmore has reopened in its new even-more fabulous location. For those who knew it previously, it's so easy: right across the street! But somehow the new location is even better. Bright, sunny, airy and cheerful and still retains that French charm. Lovely pastries, fresh salads, excellent coffee drinks, welcoming staff and comfortable spaces to relax. The outside has perfect sidewalk charm, and the inside invites you to settle in (but we should all be nice & buy something every hour we stay!) Look, I'll be honest - my family muddled through while it was closed for a while during the pandemic. But when we saw it was reopening & in an even better spot we looked in the windows every day it was preparing to open and did a happy dance. Our neighborhood is back! And Cafe du Soleil is the heart of it. Stop by, and enjoy. You'll be glad you did.
