As Hyde Parkers who literally live around the corner from Allday, we want this place to succeed because if we can no longer have our beloved (and sorely missed!) post office, we may as well be able to get some good pizza.
We came on Saturday night around 6:00 pm with some friends and there was a line, but no prob, we were happy to wait and put our order in with a very friendly staff person. Then we're told to go to the side and wait until a table opens up, so we do. And we keep on waiting. And waiting. This is the exact problem with the space: unlike the 35th street location, this one does not have enough seating to meet demand and there is no outdoor space for overflow. They also don't have enough people on the floor to manage the chaos--we were a party of seven and there was a huge booth where people were all done eating and then just basically sitting there hanging out. Then when another table area finally opened up, a smaller party who came in AFTER us went and took it, and no staff intervened! One of us was pissed and told someone who likely ended up being a manager, and he saved the day and made it right for us, but damn, you really need to manage the flow in here or its going to be a perpetual problem!!
We do have to say that the pizza is worth the wait. It's really good, and definitely NY-style. We shared the plain cheese and the straciatella, both were bonkers divine: thin crust, nice oven char, gooey cheese, just heaven. Better than Home Slice by leaps and bounds. We liked the Caesar but remember liking the one we had at their other location better....just too many breadcrumbs and one of us thought the dressing needed a bit more pizzazz. Still, fine. The soft serve swirl that we got with pistachio dust and sprinkles was absolutely spot-on: such a strong and not-fake tasting pistachio! Kudos!
Even though we loved the food, we were so disenchanted by our experience here that we're settling on 3 stars. The staff is great, the vibe and ambience are great, and we're excited to come back, but we need to see a better job of managing traffic and tables. Welcome to the neighborhood, and since it's a 30 second walk from our house, we'll be back soon and will hopefully end up landing on four stars.
