The chef, Gia Rokashvili, uses local ingredients and serves the food with local wines. Tony had boiled beets in wild plum sauce, freshly foraged mushrooms with chili pepper, mint, and tarragon; baby lamb stewed with cumin, cooked with wild rice; fresh tonis puri, bread made in a tandoor-like clay oven. He ate with Keti Bochorishvili, former Deputy Minister of Economy and Sustainable Development, and Tamuna Gvaberidze, gallery owner.

The Oldest Newest Wine Region in the World

"A hilltop Kakheti winery founded in 2007 by an American expat and a Georgian partner that was among the first to export traditionally made Georgian wines to the U.S.; it’s closely associated with exuberant supras—massive, toasting-filled feasts—and serves a parade of regional dishes (foraged mushrooms, khachapuri, rolled eggplant with walnut sauce, lamb chakapuli, shkmeruli). Its inky, plummy Saperavi is formidable and benefits from decanting." - Ray Isle

Great atmosphere! Wine was excellent, we did the tasting and bought some to take with us. The smoke eggplant dish was so good. Also the bread was some of the best we've had, paired great with the whipped butter. Roasted potatoes with the plum sauce was very good as well. Spoke with the chef who was so nice, and his wife did our wine tasting and was also very nice. Great place to visit.

We went without booking on a Sunday night. There is an English menu. They advise what wine is suitable for you so we took a full bodied red which was amazing. We didn't finish the bottle so took the rest to our guesthouse. Food was amazing. We had an aubergine based salad and a vegetable ones. Absolutely amazing. So was the chicken stew. Not cheap, but amazing food and decor. It is worth it

The place is absolutely amazing: calm and with its own charm. And the food…. oh it is amazing! I could never think that eggplants 🍆 can be so good. Big thanks to the chef 🧑‍🍳! I highly recommend this family run restaurant 😌

Absolutely loved this place, what great vibes! The Saperavi wine was very good and we ended up buying a bottle. Great veggie selection, we had the bread, butter with salt and red beans, all very yummy. Great service

Its amazing place! Very qualified wine, frendly family who own this place and soo viby atmosphere! Highly recommend for anyone who understands natural wine. There was really soo good: we first come for wine tasting and say that we don’t love chacha so they replaced it on very nice red wine which was smell like strawberry. And the most cute thing: chef was listening very good music and sing so we can hear it and enjoy! We kinda in love with this place ♥️

Special place. Quality and fresh ingredients. Recipes that stay true to Georgian roots, on a more refined level while tasting like great home food (truly from Mum’s kitchen!). The waiters were lovely and really won me over 🥹 Must-try: the fried aubergine, chips, choux dessert, and a glass of saperavi !

Had a blast! Excellent own natural Saperavi 23, solid tomato salad, and of course tasty khachapuri! What else to ask for?

The lunch we had at Pheasant’s Tears was delicious. The ingredients were fresh, the flavors well-balanced, and the dishes paired beautifully with their natural wines. A memorable culinary experience in a charming setting.
