Grand Canyon Lodge - North Rim

Sad to say that this review won't matter much as the cabins and the lodge burned down after our stay. Glad I was able to experience both before they were gone.||The stay there was quiet and rustic. The cabins provided the bare minimum, which was perfect and expected. They were clean and the beds comfortable. No TV, WiFi or Cell Service..... ||The lodge was beautiful and provided a magnificent view of the Grand Canyon. Food was very good and reasonably priced, given it was the only place to eat :)||I hope they rebuild quickly as the North Rim provides a welcome retreat from the hustle and bustle and the crowds at the South Rim.

After several visits to the South Rim, we found the North Rim to be so much more our relaxed style. The Grand Canyon Lodge was a wonderful place to stay and much more budget friendly than any hotel on the southern rim. And it is on the RIM! With great views and a friendly staff. We found the food to be okay, not great. We stayed in a cabin and it was quite comfortable, clean and felt rustic, but really wasn't. And the drive in was long, but so beautiful. We plan to return and stay longer next time.

The views from the lodge are breathtaking. The staff are friendly and helpful. The cabins are adorable and everything is very clean. The food is excellent. Mitch was my server for breakfast two days and he is amazing. Mitch is very friendly and knowledgeable of the area. I give him a 10/10. The mule ride was so fun!

This is a beautiful lodge with panoramic views of the canyon. The restaurant is nice and the staff at our visit was friendly. The food was good. It’s a little pricey but it’s the only option in the area and was expected. Make reservations in advance to get a table for dinner. The cabin we stayed in was perfect for our needs. The overall surrounding property of the park cabins, and lodge is well taken care of, clean, and has many trails and paths with beautiful views. Highly recommend!

4.5 stars. Location is unbeatable. The lodge is in one of the most spectacular settings in the world. Lodge dining is pretty decent for a national park and especially given its remote location. The cabins are almost a hundred years old, but are clean and functional. The advantage of staying on the rim is that you get to enjoy the surroundings across the entire day— sunrises, sunsets, stargazing, afternoon thunderstorms. Don’t miss it.

Nice lodge on the north rim. It looks like they gave nice cabins some with a rim view. We didn't stay here but loved the views. The Bright Angel Point trail at the lodge is still closed for repairs (May 15 2025). But many other nice views including the paved scenic drive. Lots of people but not nearly the crowds you see on the south rim even though we were here on opening day. It is sad that this beautiful location has now been destroyed by wildfire within two months of our being there. Glad we delayed leaving the area until after the May 15 opening and explored the North Rim when we did.

We recently stayed at the Grand Canyon North Rim Lodge and, while we did run into an unexpected issue during our stay, I have to say the customer service was absolutely exceptional. The lodge manager went above and beyond to make things right, handling everything with kindness, professionalism, and genuine care. It's rare these days to see that level of follow-through, and it truly made all the difference. The location is, of course, stunning — and thanks to the way our concern was handled, we left feeling cared for and grateful. I wouldn’t hesitate to stay again!

Our cabin was 100 years old, but you wouldn’t know it. It was in great shape and everything worked just fine. The people were awesome. The location was amazing and the whole experience was just what you would expect for a national park like the Grand Canyon. 100% recommended. We made a reservations a year ago and it was easy to get in

This review is for a Pioneer Rim cabin at the lodge. We got a last minute cancellation and couldn't have been happier to get a spot. The cabin slept our family of four comfortably, the shower was hot, towels and linens were nice enough. If this had been a hotel anywhere else it would have had 2 star review but the location makes all the difference. Our cabin literally had a view of the grand canyon. What more could you ask for? We were able to wake up for sunrise and walk 200 feet for unrestricted views and simply stepped outside for night sky views. The cabin did have heat which we had to turn up in the night to stay warm. Our kids loved the bunk bed. We did have a mouse visit us in the middle of the night. My fault for not hanging up my running pack that still had some snacks in it but you are in the wilderness and you will have to deal with animals. We did not eat at the lodge, nor at the deli so no idea on how the food is. We did ask about gluten free options and the response was so shaky we just brought all our own food. The gift shops were nice and the rangers were awesome to talk to. Can't wait to come back. My biggest gripe with the whole cabin setup is the parking. Expect to walk a long long long way from your vehicle to your cabin. Make sure to bring rolling bags or a backpack to carry all your stuff. They are supposed to have someone who can meet you at your vehicle to carry stuff from car to cabin but that person was on break when we checked in. Didn't bother asking on check out.

I'm averaging two night's stay in different cabins into one review. The first night was the better of the two and I'd rate it 4-star. Two of us shared a room with a twin and a full-sized bed. My review takes into account that we expected a rustic cabin without wifi, TV, or much of anything else, located in a national park. It met expectations. I think my only beef with this night was that when securing a reservation there's no suggestion from Aramark (concessionaire running this lodging business for the park service) to get reservations for dinner at the lodge dining room early or (even better) holding some tables for lodge guests. All tables were booked several weeks in advance, at least. As it was, we ate pizza slices both nights and ended up deciding we didn't need the dining room after all. The weather was warm and sitting outside on the patios (with no food involved) offered the best views. Anyone eating in the dining room after sunset would miss the views anyway. Dinners are pricey. If you want to dine with views, the first-come/first-served breakfast or lunch would make more sense (a $25 buffet in 2024). Our second night was in a larger cabin (for four single people). It rated at most 2 stars. This cabin had two rooms with a tiny hall and bathroom between them. One bunk, one full-sized bed, one futon. The lack of Aramark's attention to detail was evident here. First, we had to ask for bedding for the futon. Then one of us took a shower and found both the shampoo and body wash bottles were empty. At night, we had mouse activity in both rooms, with the sleeper on the futon having a mouse (or, she thought, something perhaps larger) crawl over her. She then changed rooms to share the full bed with me, even though I had previously been awakened by a mouse (maybe the same one) moving around that room, too, although not on me, fortunately. When that happened, I packed every snack I could find into the minifridge. We didn't notice any more mouse activity after the two incidents and none of our food had gotten disturbed. We finally got about four hours of sleep. We observed multiple gaping holes between floor and walls, one completely open, the other partially stuffed with steel wool. I also found a clump of steel wool, presumably pushed into the cabin by mice, under the bed. The carpets weren't particularly clean but, well, we were hikers so our expectations weren't high. There's minimal bedding and if it were cold, there were no extra blankets to keep us warm, just the one thin one per bed. Both cabins had mousetraps, although none was actually baited or placed in the right location. We had a lengthy conversation with one housekeeper - Aramark's staff is recruited from all over (this young guy was from Illinois) and are housed in dorms, I believe. He was very attentive to our needs but seemed tired. We saw housekeeping staff working on preparing cabins well into the evening. I got the feeling that Aramark has the place very understaffed, although at least the front desk did have all four stations staffed when we checked in and we didn't wait long there. Thet definitely need more staff members tasked with maintenance and making more permanent or even temporary measures to plug mouse holes more effectively than with steel wool that isn't fastened in place with something like wire cloth. When I mentioned the mouse/mice at the front desk, I didn't get an apology. The clerk pulled out a copy of the info sheet we had been given on check-in that apparently indicated that there might be mice. She didn't seem to want to know or to do anything about it. That was the most disappointing thing. Would I stay here again? Probably not, unless I could be sure not to get a room with mice. They are very cute cabins from the outside, but I'd rather camp, to be honest. I wouldn't have written all these details on Yelp if the link to the survey from Aramark hadn't 1) taken me to a site flagged by Bitdefender as unsafe and 2) expired by now anyway. Yelp seems my only choice. I hope Aramark and NPS both read this.

Historic lodging located right on the rim of the North Grand Canyon. Before I get into the lodge itself let me begin by saying that the North Rim is officially my favorite rim. It's known to be less traveled and visited by only 10% of all Grand Canyon visitors. No crowds, no traffic, less screaming children, and no large buses filled with international tourists. There's only one lodge you can stay at on this side of the canyon and it's at this incredible place offering several different types of lodging from larger cabins to smaller ones, and motel rooms. The lodge is literally on the edge of the canyon offering the most incredible lodging experience. For those like me who would like to sleep next to the edge itself you can rent a cabin that will offer you exactly that. The lodge also offers the following services ~ upscale and casual dining, gift shop, post office, laundry facilities, wifi, saloon (just incase you forget your own liquor), water stations, and complimentary morning coffee. You'll also find mule rides, trails in all directions that you can walk to, a visitor center, and gas station. Keep in mind that this is a historic lodge from 1928 so it's not exactly up to speed with certain amenities. But I assure you that it won't matter when you arrive and are taken back with the solitude one can find here. It'll allow you to slow down and really get away from it all. Unlike other parts of the Grand Canyon, the north rim closes each winter due to its higher elevation. The plus side is that if you should visit in the summer you'll find cooler temps here. Pro tip, stay after dark and witness some of the most incredible starry night skies....

Four of us stayed in cabin # 4. Queen bed, bunk beds and a pullout. Close to the rim. Very rustic but ok. It did have small refrigerator. Gotta keep windows open, screens closed during summer. No a/c. Plenty of hot water in tiny shower. Hot water was reversed on bathroom sink faucet. Ouch! Restaurant at the Lodge was top notch. We were there for breakfast and dinner and the food was very good. And priced very reasonably considering our location at the north rim. We also ate snacks, coffee at the saloon and it was good too. All in all I would skip the cabins and save up for the lodge.

This review is specifically for the restaurant. (We stayed at the hotel which is fine if you like rustic cabins) The restaurant is basically a Claim Jumper with a great view. The menu is fairly limited, with a heavy emphasis on meats. There are two vegetarian entree options for dinner. I really wanted to like this place because the menu appears to be well thought out, using organic and somewhat local ingredients. It appears to incorporate herbs and spices that give each dish a unique flavor. Unfortunately, the.execution of these dishes leave them to be somewhat bland and in uninspiring. The stuffed poblano was filled with chunks of chicken breast and cheese with some fajita seasoning. The pork loin was a massive piece of meat that would serve 3 people- seared in the outside and could use some extra marinating. Meatloaf was also a portion size that would normally be for 2 people. All the entrees sat on long grain white rice with a spoonful of cranberries mixed in, labelled as "pilaf" and the seasonal vegetable was a dollop of roasted corn. I think this restaurant has lots of potential but it doesn't live up to any hype. They just need to figure out how to bring more flavor into the dishes and not take such a mass produced, mega portion approach. If you're there at the north rim, you obviously have very few choices so do what you can but don't go out of your way to get a reservation here.

We had been planning this trip for a long time. My husband booked a cabin months in advance and felt so lucky to get one. He has these fabulous memories of two previous visits to the North Rim, both as a child and as an adult, and had waxed rhapsodic about the view, the majesty, etc. Check-in was sloooow -- as in, stand in line for 30-45 minutes. Staff seems to use a combination of computer and handwritten charts for check-in, which accounts for the lack of speediness. We had viewed photos of the cabin online, so we were surprised to see the quite striking bare minimum of facilities within our Frontier cabin. I understand it's a cabin, in a national park, and we expected the rustic vibe. There were two beds -- a double and a single. We had to pile most of our luggage on the single bed. The double bed was placed backward so that the exposed frame for the headboard was out in the room. Yes, my shin took the brunt of it two times in the first few minutes, so my dear husband turned the whole bed around. There is no decorative bed covering -- not even a swatch -- and the icky box springs are bare to the room. Then we had to turn the sheets around. People: they had made up the bed with a bottom sheet (No mattress pad!), a thin fuzzy blanket as a top sheet (!), and a top sheet on top of that! There was no way I wanted a fuzzy blanket against my body -- who knows how often those are washed! So we flipped the order of blanket and sheet. Let's talk about the bed itself. Yowza wowza. It was so bouncy and creaky I expected to see springs pop out like they do in cartoons. Ugh. We had booked the cabin for three nights. Privately, I wondered how we would be able to manage that bed for three nights. We knew there was no television, but we were disappointed that there was no refrigerator. For some reason, there was a telephone, though that was not supposed to be present and is, these days, superfluous. One chair only. Our plans for sitting outside on the porch reading did not appear to be manifesting. The cabins are supremely un-private. They are duplexed, so you have someone directly attached to your cabin. Plus, all the cabins are in a big cluster, so people are walking right by all the time. Close your drapes, in other words. We woke in the night to a noise we did not recognize. Lay back down. A few moments later, we both sit up: could that be a mouse? It could and it was! A mouse chewed into an UNOPENED bag of potato chips. He was behind the heater. The mouse seemed unfazed by the flashlight or even the overhead light. My husband (at 3:20 in the morning) went to the lodge desk, where the night clerk could do nothing. He came back. We couldn't sleep. We checked out about 6 am. The night clerk said the manager wouldn't be in until 9 or 10. It was raining. I'm not going to mention the tiny bathroom because it all seems insignificant next to the fact that we had at least one mouse, and mice can carry Hantavirus and Plague. I see now that other travelers have commented on mice in the cabins. Some are cavalier about them; some are appalled, as we were. We did receive full credit for the three nights, thank goodness. We are so depressed that our North Rim pilgrimage was cut short and we barely saw anything. I would not recommend the cabins to anyone unless you enjoy roughing it with vermin.

Stayed in a sweet little Frontier cabin. Unfortunately, they are understaffed with only 6 housekeepers for 300 rooms. This resulted in waiting from 4PM til 7:30 for the cabin. Couldn't get hot water in the shower. When I called, they said the hot/cold is reversed in some of the cabins. Easy enough, but would have been nice to post it. My major concern is the beds. No bedbug protectors on the box spring or mattress, and no mattress pad. In a world where bedbugs are virtually everywhere, Aramark needs to step up. Unacceptable.

It's tough for me to rate this as a 3 star because it's really the only lodging option in the area if you don't want to tent camp. I guess I just expected more out of a lodge in a national park with sky high rates. We called a few weeks in advance to see if there was any availability for the week we planned to visit and lucked out with one night's stay. We drove in from Kanab and really enjoyed the scenery and the hike to the rim. Check in was fairly straightforward, though they only gave us one room key between the two of us because they were running low. Their dining area was closed due to Covid-19 which wasn't that big of an issue for us, though it would have been nice to be able to enjoy the view from inside since the temperatures were getting into freezing territory. The cafe was open for takeout food and beer which was just fine for us and we ended up having a pizza on the patio during sunset which was great. I will say the views can't be beat and the lodge is an adequate oasis along the vast canyon rim. One thing that we were surprised by (as were other guests I overheard in the lobby) was the lack of wifi. Service was spotty as well unless you were near the main lodge. I do understand that we're in nature and we shouldn't be caring about wifi but it's sort of a standard amenity at this point and anyone trying to do any business will be out of luck. Another inconvenience we overheard was the need to use wagons to transport your luggage from the parking lot to the cabins (no car access). They do have staff with golf carts to assist you but I'm not sure how readily available they are. For us we didn't mind hauling our stuff in since we were only there one night but I'm sure it's an issue for some of the older or less mobile guests. The real problem for us was once we headed to bed we had an issue with mice in the cabin. They were rifling through our snack box all night and there wasn't much we could do about it. Honestly I was happy to sacrifice my snacks to the mice to prevent them from coming into our bed. When we brought it to management's attention the next day they were understanding and did give us a partial refund but it did seem a little ridiculous to pay so much money for an experience that was about equal to tent camping in the end. Would I visit the Lodge again? Probably. There's nothing like the North Rim and I'd be curious to see what it's like when it's fully open and operational. My advice is not to stick around the lodge so much and use it only as a place to sleep. Maybe don't go when temperatures start to drop as the critters are looking for a warm shelter. I rarely spend this much money on a hotel room so I was definitely expecting more but options are limited. I just think it could have been a little better experience.

This Lodge is somewhat deceiving, you would think the rooms are in the lodge. The rooms are actually log cabins varying in size and cost. The lodge houses the check in for registration, formal dining and also a buffett dining. There is conversation and sitting areas located throughout. Lots of outside sitting areas for soaking up that clean air and enjoying the million dollar view of the Grand Canyon. We stayed in #91, a single room cabin that had one double bed and a twin, desk and 3/4 bath. It was perfect for us, we didn't come here to sit in the cabin! Plenty of walking paths for casual strolls or even longer if you wish. There are plenty of great spots to watch the sunset. Booking a room can be a task and my wife handled that nicely. I've seen comments of booking solid a year in advance. But that isn't necessarily true. Parking is one large lot. There is a deli and and coffee/beer bar that has sandwiches and what not also. We had a fun time and would definitely come back again!

This review is for the lodging here at the north rim. I had read that lodging in the Grand Canyon typically books up a year in advance. This was not the case for me when I booked a cabin less than a month from when we would arrive. In fact, when we arrived there appeared to be a few available cabins. Perhaps it is the south rim that books up. Check in is in the main lodge building. It was a really quick and easy check in. We arrived early, which was not a problem as our cabin was ready for us. There are no overnight accommodations in the main lodge. There are four levels of accommodations available in the park. There are motel-like rooms and three different cabins. There are quite a few units surrounding the main lodge, all very close walking distance to the lodge. The motel lodging is the farthest away. We were in a Frontier cabin. It's really small and very rustic. There are two cabins to a unit with a bolted door between them. Speak softly, because voices easily carry between the cabins. No fridge, no TV, no WiFi, spotty cell coverage. But hey, you're at the Grand Canyon! You should be out all day hiking and soaking up the views, not cooped up in a cabin watching TV or glued to your phone surfing the web. With that said, next time we will stay in a Western cabin, which have a porch and rocking chairs. The Frontier cabin was just way too small. It is a big plus staying in the park to avoid having to drive in and out. It gave us more time to explore for the short time we were here. It wasn't too crowded on the afternoon we arrived, and it thinned out even more into the evening as day visitors left the park. As the sun started to go down, many headed to the patio areas at the lodge to get ready to view the sunset. We decided to take a hike to Bright Angel point and what a nice treat this was. It's so beautiful here.

Only giving this place one star because i can't give it a zero. Food was terrible and way over priced There was 6 of us. The bread was hard. Steak was chewy and burnt. Meatloaf was cold, hard and dry. Salmon has zero flavor. The only thing that was good was the mashed potatoes. There was a hair in one of the drinks the bartender made and i watched the waiter take the drink back to the bartender to make a new one but all the bartender did was spoon out the hair and pour the same drink into another glass. Not recommend WHAT SO EVER

1. We are tent campers, so we are not used to a lot of fluff and foof. We thought we would 'treat' ourselves to a cabin while on the North Rim. Well....When we got to the $200 cabin...Well I will let the pictures do the talking... And just think, the NRL has the typical covid theater going on ...What a crock.

Have been to the North Rim twice before and always had a great time. Camped both times. Always wanted to stay in a cabin and discovered they were available. Took my wife who had never been before. Stayed in a Frontier Cabin. I feel the website is totally deceptive regarding these cabins. Bed was terrible. Like sleeping in a hammock. No mattress cover. Sheets would not stay in place. Place was ridiculously small. One chair. No porch. Worst "cabin I have ever stayed in. Would never stay here again. I would rate our trip as a disaster!!!

*Note that this review is just for the restaurant at the Grand Canyon Lodge. After exploring the North Rim of the Grand Canyon, we came here for lunch. There really aren't any other nearby options, but we were pleasantly surprised with our experience. For lunch, you have the option of either a $16 buffet which comes with soup, salad, and sandwiches or ordering directly from the menu. They allow some members of your party to do the buffet if not everyone wants to. We decided to order à la carte and liked everything we got. The Asian Chicken Salad was refreshing and the dressing wasn't too sweet. My favorite was the Forever Grilled Chicken Sandwich, which came with bacon and avocado. The prices and portion sizes were pretty reasonable. We were also very happy with the service - the waitresses were friendly and brought out our food quickly. The restaurant is right by the North Rim, so you also have a great view while eating!

This was the icon of our vacation. Beautiful landscape and it feels like you're in a painting. The lodge is from the 30s and has that historic appeal.

This is the only place at the North Rim of the GC. Some complain that such a monopoly results in mediocre service (in some instances that was true) but overall that suits us just fine. The NR is almost 2 hours further than the South Rim. It also has only one lodge (versus six). That all translates to just 1/10 the crowd (per official GC stats) and the views are just as spectacular! Eating choices are far less diverse than on the SR but they are sufficient. There is the main/fancy dining hall located in the North Rim Lodge. And there are two lighter-fare options, including a saloon and a café/diner which provides cafeteria-style food (pizza, meatball subs, soft-serve ice cream, and a few rotating hot menu items). Prices are about 30% more than you might expect, but reasonable (keep in mind, all ingredients and garbage need to make the extra 2 hour drive in/out of the NR as well). Tip: Coffee is $3 and you can get a refill all day for $1 each. WiFi: None. Cellular: I had Verizon (4G = 1-3 bars, but often you're in "Ext" or 3G which means no internet, Pandora, etc. and texts are slow). Staff - from the front desk to the waiters and maid service - are overwhelmingly friendly! Lodging runs from $180/night to $240/night, including taxes, depending upon the view or size. Reservations can be done a year in advance... and if you want summer wknds, you will only get them 6+ months ahead of time (credit card will be charged but you may cancel at least 48 hours in advance for full refund). All rooms are log cabin style. There is no motel/hotel here. That's important to appreciate because it means no elevator; longish walks to/from the main front desk, ice machine, diner, or parking lot; and there will be cobwebs in every corner of your room. Tip: the rooms come with a mini fridge but no microwave, so bring lots of fruit, bread, deli meat, drinks, and protein bars and save a ton of $. There is no a/c but the windows all open and there is a ceiling fan - all of which will cool your room in the evening. Our room even came with its own tiny mousetraps (the old fashioned spring-loaded variety, with a little peanut butter as bait)... a little unnerving for some, but this is not the Ritz. Btw, the traps never went off during our 3 day stay. Tip: The lodge itself is THE best place to catch sunrise and Cape Point (about a 30 min drive within the park) is THE best place to catch the sunset. Enjoy your journey!

I've found Northern Arizona folks to be some of the nicest and most helpful folks I've ever met. In particular the staff at the Grand Canyon North Rim Lodge. We had some challenges with a rim to rim hike attempt and the team at the lodge was extremely helpful in letting us use their landline phone to make arrangements to get back to the south rim. The general hospitality and care shown by the staff was awesome. Definitely will be back

I visited the North Rim of the Grand Canyon once last year. Unless you go camping or arrive in a RV, this is the only place to stay inside of the Grand Canyon National Park on the North Rim. (There are hotels outside of the National Park, miles away.) The architecture of the lodge's main building is really nice. This is what I think of when I think of the word "lodge" in the western United States. The main building is located right on the rim's edge of the Canyon-- outstanding views :) You can't get any closer to the Canyon unless you start hiking down. The rooms are in separate buildings from the main lodge. Some of the buildings are far from the main lodge, but within walking distance. Our room was very quiet and allowed for good sleep. There is a lot of tourist information in the main building. There are two dining rooms/restaurants in the main building of the lodge, one for ordering buffet (on the left) and the other for ordering a la carte (on the right). The two dining rooms are separate. We tried both and enjoyed the cuisine in both dining rooms. I ordered yummy elk chili in the a la carte dining room :) We visited in the summertime. There aren't as many tourists on the North Rim as there are on the South Rim, but be prepared to stand in line, if you don't have a meal reservation, in the summer time. I recommend making reservations for every meal in the summertime. There are a saloon and stores near the front entrance of the lodge's main building.  Aside from drinks, the saloon also serves pizza and other fast food. They sell tourist items such as hoodies and t-shirts too. There was a place outside of the lodge to fill water bottles, not too far from the front entrance.  There were large maps posted there too. Aside from the two dining rooms and the saloon, as far as I know, there are no other places to order food nearby. I recommend bringing lots of snacks. I would stay here again if I decide not to go camping next time I visit the North Rim.  BOOK WAY IN ADVANCE.

Two friends and I stayed at the Grand Canyon Lodge for two nights during a recent trip to the North Rim. If you have been to the South Rim, the North Rim is nothing like it in terms of development. Whereas there are strips of hotels near the South Rim, there is but one place to stay inside at the North Rim and that is the Lodge. The Lodge is a beautiful wood building/complex with a large dining room and a great lodge living room that has a great view of the Grand Canyon. They also have a saloon and a small cafe. Something you might be surprised by is that you won't be staying in the lodge, you will be staying in these small cabins that are walking distance from the lodge. Ours came with 1 queen and then 2 twin size bunk beds. The cabins were tight but outfitted very nicely...the hot water and soap dispensers made it very comfortable and the heating system was great as well. Beware that service in the area is very poor so if you do want service, the lodge is the place where it is, and the only place that has wifi is the General Store which is a drive from the lodge. You should have dinner at least once in the lodge as it is a beautiful setting. The food is average (I had elk chili and venison meatloaf) but the setting is beautiful overlooking the Grand Canyon. Beware that since they have a virtual monopoly here, prices are higher on average, though they are limited on how much profit they can make. This is all something I am happy to accept while exploring the Grand Canyon.

We showed up at the losge to check in and was told our room would be ready by four. By 7:00 our room still was not availand the staff had no idea when it would be available. When we asked to speak to the managthey said they had no idea who it was and counot even give us a way to contact them. This place is a clown show and I would not recommend it. If you do come be prepared for poor service so that you won't be disappointed

We stopped by for about 20-30 minutes of rest and relaxation after hiking some of the North Rim trails. The view is AMAZING. There's a central area with a bunch of leather couches and huge windows, but even better is if you go outside onto either of the two patios. The patios give you a grand view of the canyon. It's just breathtaking. We sat out on the patio and just soaked in the view, all content & relaxed, for a while before moving on to the next part of our day.

An embarrassment to the National Park Service and to our country. With the number of international visitors at this site, I cannot believe the filthy conditions of the rim side cabins (for which we paid more). Filthy carpet not vacuumed in years. Filthy windows, so forget rim side view. Dirt everywhere, I cannot imagine using the coffee pot. Spiders and spider webs everywhere. Killed spiders in the shower, on the window sills, by the front door, etc. My wife woke up with bites on her legs!!! We reported to the front desk and were told to check out before 11 AM to avoid getting charged for the following night....they don't care, we left. They have you check in late so you don't have time to go anywhere else. Traveled 6 continents, some of the poorest countries in the world, all kind of accommodations, even dirt floors and this was the worst, right here in the USA. Don't stay here unless you have a cabin on the East side of the road. Even a housekeeper told us, they don't have vacuums, the west side cabins are "nasty" and they only change the sheets on the bed. DISGUSTING!!!

These cabins were fantastic- and reasonably priced. They had two small beds and a bathroom big enough for only one person at a time. The cabins were in close proximity to the main lodge, gift shop, restaurants, saloon, and the few hiking trails. Everything you needed seemed like it was within a hundred yards or so. If they didn't have what you need, the general store was about 2 miles up the road. We were able to book the cabin only a few weeks in advance. A friend that lived in the area but wanted to see us booked his the same day. I would highly recommend the lodging here. There isn't as much to do as the south rim and the north rim is closed most of the year.

First visit to majestic North Rim. Too bad the only dining option was terrible! Bison short rib dinner was served cold. The eggs from the buffet breakfast were ice cold and we were 2nd in line! The short staffed personnel is doing the best they can. They have reduced occupancy by 25% and they still can't handle food preparation. Aramark, the owners, need to focus on their staffing issues to improve the overall dining experience, hire quality chefs, improve wages and employee housing. Aramark is not meeting minimum contract standards that our tax dollars demand. NPS, find a new concessioner!

This is pretty much the only place to stay on the North Rim. There are cabin options as well as motel room options. We opted for a cabin so we could get partial rim view. (There are only 3 cabins available with full rim view). The motels do not have Rim view. Basic room - 2 queen beds. Small table and chairs. Mini kitchenette with coffee pot and refrigerator. We were there right after opening in May. (The North Rim opens May 15 every year). It was cold. It snowed. Even with the heater and the gas fireplace, the cabin was drafty. The lodge itself has a huge lounge room with floor to ceiling windows overlooking the rim. Gorgeous place to sit and soak in the view. Limited eating options at the lodge. There is the main dining room and there is a deli.

Avoid staying here until they have the staff to support full occupancy. The food is wretched and over priced. I feel sorry for the staff since whoever owns this place seems to be only concerned with making a buck

The National Park Service should kick "grandcanyonforever.com" off the edge of a cliff. There are several nearby. The "grandcanyonforever.com" website is the worst I have ever experienced. Customer service people are rude, inconsiderate, condescending and pretentious. You will know for yourself if you need to contact them. They can jump off that same cliff. I can't speak for the food, however several internet review sources indicate the food and food service is as consistent as the booking concessionaire "grandcanyonforever.com". Pack a lunch, go for the AWSOME view then leave. I may have a biased option that is not consistent with most. READ OTHER REVIEWS. You make the call. Go outside the park and stay up the road. Cheaper, cleaner with nice people.

Upon a road trip from California to Florida, the Grand Canyon Lodge North Rim was by far a favorite stop. Never having been to the Canyon before, I was overwhelmed by the breathtaking views. The Lodge is placed atop tremendous scenery, but feels like a part of the natural wonder. My absolute favorite part of the lodging is the grand patio overlooking it all. Providing an almost panoramic view, I spent my first few hours upon arrival sitting on one of the many lounge chairs taking in fresh air, sun, and scene all while sipping back some locally brewed beer. Those few hours have left a lasting impression on me and I will always remember that time.

The Lodge is the only game in town but that's OK by me! It boasts a view that literally brought me to tears, a panoramic picture window, verandas and an easy hike to a viewpoint over the expansive North Rim. We stayed in a charming, comfortable cabin that made us feel like part of the park. It had a small gas fireplace and a double rocker porch for chipmunk and rain watching and was steps to the rim and amenities of the lodge. We ate sandwiches from the deli, had a brew from the saloon and two meals at the dining room (make a dinner reservation ahead of time or else you may wait until after 9:30 to get in. The food is OK but hey, I'm sitting on the side of The Grand Canyon!) The visitor center where Jr Rangers can sign up was two cabins away and everything at the village is within walking distance. Best of all is the tranquility that envelops you at this side. With a fraction of the visitors of its big sister, a vantage with more crevices and slots, there are few voices, everyone is relaxed and city nerves are soothed.

Reservations desk was very accommodating and checked us right in. The lodge has a great deal of history behind it, and is beautiful and unique and for that I give it five stars; but I feel after staying here there are a few things they need to improve. Pros: Service and staff were friendly and nice. The food in the dining area was really good and the menu was very accommodating for the vegetarians and gluten free eaters. We loved the National park talks throughout the day in the dining hall. The Visitor center has a list of the talks and times you should definitely check out, It's worth it. The grounds were nicely kept up. The views of the Grand Canyon from here are SO breathtaking. Omg!!! Cons: We ate in the buffet room for dinner and they ran out of food while I was on my way back for more vegetables, Ugh! My diet is mostly veggies not meat. I personally thought the food in the buffet area was flavorless. I had to talk to the manager (Bobbi) about how we can make it right... and she did indeed make it right. Thanks Bobbi! The bed was not comfortable.

We booked a Deluxe cabin almost a year ahead of time, knowing most of the National Park lodges book out early. The cabins to the east are definitely the way to go, each with their own covered porch and rocking chairs. No a/c, only heat, and no TV since the real show is outdoors on the canyon rim. It is an easy stroll to the views from the cabins. We also made dinner reservations, but forgot to request a window table. The restaurant is perched on the rim, and the views are jaw dropping from the restaurant and the outdoor bar tables. The saloon is tucked into the forecourt of the lodge as is the deli and the visitor's center. Service at the restaurant was pleasant. The food was good, and the large chunk of chocolate cake for my birthday was rich and delicious. My husband and are planning on making it an annual event even though cabins are pricey, because this side is so much more low key than the south rim with only 15% of the crowd visiting the north rim. The wildflowers were fabulous in August, and much cooler than the desert regions since the lodge is at 8000 ft. Definitely worth the drive to get away from it all.

Had an amazing time here with fam :) By the time we booked the majority of the cabins were taken, but we were able to snag a small cabin for the three of us. It was small but very cosy and did the trick; there was a single and a full size bed, a desk, a bathroom, and a fan. Our screen had a little hole in it but maintenance was there immediately to patch it up. The lodge itself is super cute and has amazing views of the canyon from the main lounge area. The people at the front desk were very nice and you can sign up for mule rides in the main area as well. The restaurant is PHENOMENAL. Everything we ordered for dinner was excellent and I was stuffed at the end. Definitely recommend staying here on your trip to the North Rim!

This review is specifically for the dining room and lounge area. Whatever you do, I would highly recommended booking a cabin for the evening if you plan on making a trip here. Trusttttt me. The drive from Vegas is 4 1/2 hrs and the last thing you want to do is rush your visit to make the long drive back in the dark. Aside from that-- also make a reservation in advance for the dining room. We didn't really plan in advance so when we arrived at the park, we realized there were limited options to eat- the deli area or the dining room at the lodge. The dining area is much nicer and a sit down experience but dressy attire not required as most folks dine here after hiking/exploring the Northern Rim. Thankfully we were able to get a table right when they opened up for dinner at 430pm. If you can get a table overlooking the canyon, that is ideal but def requires planning. The menu is expansive with plenty of options for carnivores and herbivores. And most anything can be subbed for a Garden chickn option! My husband and I had the stuffed mushrooms to start which were delicious and just enough to share. Our server mentioned that all dishes are made to order so nothing comes to the table room temp (if it's meant to be hot). He also paced our orders. I ordered a caprese salad to follow the app and it came well before my entree. They also offer Half and full size options for most menu items here. I ordered the half salad and wish I stopped there. It was wonderful- they used green tomatoes and large slices of mozzarella and plenty of basil and greens. My entree was a pasta with a white wine sauce and veggies. It was good but waaay too much food for me and it was a full order. Not to mention I was fairly full at that point. Whatever you do, order half orders or share with your dining partners if you get a full order. You can always add on to your order! Service was very good and attentive . It was nice to chat with out server and learn about the area . Most live fairly close to the park and don't commute very far. They have their own little community there which I found fascinating. If you get a chance, go to the main lounge area with huge windows overlooking the canyon. Nothing like it! The views are to die for. Might as well make the most of your trip here so make sure to dine here, visit the gift shop and spend the night if you can.

For being in business this long, perhaps they should have more staff to relieve the traffic coming in to check out at between 4-7. It seems that they don't care. There were over 30 people standing in line and only one winder to check in. This is really bad customer service for charging people so much.

The staff is not helpful at all !! When posed with an issue all I got was "thats not my job description" not even a "hold on I will try and get someone to help" What happened to customer service ??!!

I stayed in a Western cabin the night before a rim to rim hike. Cool place to stay for what it is - remote old lodge on the north rim. Incredible view from the lodge. Western cabins have two queen beds, 1 bathroom, 1 side room with fridge, fireplace, table and chairs, desk. Great for my purposes. Here are my complaints: front desk person told me it was 1 mile to R2R trailhead when it was two, holes in screens so if you want to open windows bugs get in (no a/c so you may want to), windows rattle if there's any breeze which is annoying when trying to sleep. Otherwise, this is a really neat old place to stay with gorgeous views. The saloon is fun. Restaurant was good but make reservations as far in advance as possible. I had a frontier room at first because that's what was available. When I checked in, I asked if there were any western rooms (because I heard the frontiers weren't that great) and there was one. Seems like there are cancellations at the park lodges so if you want a last minute upgrade, ask for it. Would def. stay again.

We stayed in the motel rooms (414) to be exact. This lodge is an upgrade from other park lodges we have stayed at. In particular the bed was pretty comfortable. They provide a saloon, gift shop , post office, deli, buffet and dining room. Plenty of options for something to do after hiking. They have great spots to kick back and watch the sunset and also have an outdoor fire pit. The only downside was we were only there for one day and did not want to make a reservation at the lodge dining hall for fear of missing the sights. FAIL! Because the buffet stops letting people in at 6:15 we were forced to eat at the deli. While the service was great and the portions HUGE the price is high for a normal portion eater and the food was just ok. Our fault for not making a reservation but still upsetting after our long day.

We stayed in the frontier cabins for 2 nights, since that was the only available option. I wouldn't do it again. In the frontier cabins, you share a cabin with another family. The adjoining wall is so thin you can hear absolutely everything from their short walk to the comically small bathroom to their every single word in conversation. Moral of the story - book early and spend the extra cash to avoid the frontier cabins.

Hard to rate this one. For small crowds and incredible location this is a big plus. Also hard to factor in the impact of COVID but the restrictions certainly have an impact. See other reviews re dining limitations. We got lucky on a last minute reservation in a cabin. Now the bad. The cabins are dated and in need of upgrade (shower didn't work). Our unit (4) was next to the lodge. This meant when the food delivery showed up at 4 in the morning we had to listen to the guy idle his semi for 90 mins before he departed. Finally drag was the haze of the canyon. Think LA smog in the 70s. Not sure if this was due to Ca fires or that this is new normal. Check it out before you go. Also lower some of your expectations and it would be ok

I love the North Rim. Not as crowded and it doesn't have that overly touristy atmosphere. WE stayed at the motel and it was adequate. Not great but not bad either. You do have eating limitations here. There is a great restaurant at the lodge but other than that it is a little scarce. There is also a little cafeteria like eatery that has below average food. For breakfast, try the big cinnamon roles at the saloon. They are pretty darn good. Really don't need to comment on the view of the Grand Canyon. We all know how spectacular it is. All in all, I would stay at the North Rim before considering the South Rim. Good location, good place to be with Nature.

We absolutely love our yearly trip to the North rim. The cabins are definitely not luxury and I wish they would get rid of the disgusting carpet, but we just tell ourselves that we are roughing it. The only bad thing about this years trip was the passive aggressive "hostess" at the Lodge. I felt like we were being scolded by her for having the nerve to check in early (NOT expecting to be sat before our reservation time, mind you, we just wanted to sit and enjoy the view on the patio before dinner). She then called us early and was irritated we weren't together as my sister stepped away to smoke. She told me she was so tired of people not having their entire party there. Uhm. Okay. She also was screaming names incoherently while calling for parties to be seated. The second night we also checked in about 15 min early (again, not expecting to be seated until our reservation time), and were told she was going to seat the earlier reservations first. Uhm. Yes. Good plan. We weren't asking for anything. The final night we were absolutely delighted to be seated by a different hostess! She was lovely. The battle hardened one showed up later and we half expected her to come to our table and yell at us about something. It was uncomfortable, which as a shame, because the service was great. Maybe this hostess needs a new gig, or give people the vibrating discs that alarm when their party is up to be seated. I will be on high alert next year for sure.

Enjoyed the huevos rancheros for breakfast and fresh water along with the really spectacular views of the North Rim. Really wanted to try the elk chili but that was for lunch. The lodges are like mini log cabins and great for a fun non-camping experience.

It's true what most people say about the Grand Canyon Lodge - no frills. The cabins are sparse, not a TV to be found anywhere, and if you manage to get a 3G signal you better not move!! But hey, that's part of the charm. Check-in was fairly quick, which sort of surprised me considering they don't have a whole lot of people at the front desk. But hey, I wasn't going to look a gift horse in the mouth!! The woman who checked me in was super friendly and gave me a rundown of everything that was available to me. The part that is a drag is the location of the parking lot in relation to where the cabins are. You can't park in front of the lodge when checking in, but there is a 20-min parking area near the cabins, which may or may not help you depending once again where your cabin is. Either way, plan on LOTS of walking! I was in an ADA cabin which was a tad big larger than the other cabins. Once again, it's rustic, but it did have a mini fridge which was awesome. I was expecting the cabins to be frigid, but once the heat was turned on it was hot! Kudos to the cleaning crew, I couldn't get over how spotless the room was. I probably slept better there than any other hotel I stayed in during my trip. If you want to grab a good spot to watch the sunset you'll need to get there early...I mean real early. There aren't a lot of seats and once they fill up you'll have to either stand behind everyone or fan out along the numerous trails that surround the lodge which come to think of it isn't such a bad thing. There aren't many choices when it comes to eating - there's the snack bar which didn't appear the greatest, the dining room in the lodge which serves good food, but isn't very large and you may find yourself eating dinner at 9pm. There's also the Village Saloon where you can grab a beer and some pizza, but both times I was there there was only one bartender and it could be a long wait for a beer if everyone in front of you wants a mixed drink. Remember, there isn't much around so the bar can get rather crowded. There's no WiFi at the lodge, but you can get it at the Grand Canyon store two miles away. The connection is slow and at times you'll want to pull your hair out, but if you need to check email or update your Facebook status, you can get a connection, albeit a slow one. If you have the opportunity and your wallet is deep enough it's well worth the stay, but remember, you literally are in the middle of nowhere.

It has to be 5-stars for the majesty, awe, and otherworldly experience. Hike the Rim Trails. Try South Kaibab Trail to go down into the canyon. Live it. Breathe it. Enjoy it!

This review is for the restaurant buffet. At $25/person, there were two small tables of options. Canned baked beans, tough BBQ brisket, extremely fatty/rubbery brisket, chicken and fish with no sauce, fries, spongy glazed peach cobbler, and disappointing salad bar. No condiments to be found. No items were labeled and staff knew nothing about the ingredients (critical for food sensitivities). The atmosphere was crap. Dark room, chairs all facing a promotional video for state parks. I'm at the NORTH RIM. I want to see the canyon. While enjoying good food. There is no excuse for serving such poor quality food. Give your cooks good recipes they'll be able follow. Don't worry, you can still underpay them. Using fresh ingredients and a few spices doesn't necessarily drive up costs. Poor quality food going in the trash does. People save up time and money for vacation. Please respect that and serve food that doesn't make customers regret stopping there.

What started out horribly turned out fantastic. We went for lunch which is first come first served. There was a chaotic mess of 50 to 60 people and no one can be seated until exactly 11:30. Names are not taken and there are no stanchions to keep the line in order. A 10 year old could develop a better system. We were seated at a table with an awesome view. The real star of the restaurant was our server Chris. He did it all. He went above and beyond to make our lunch special, the food was good but his efforts were great.

Less people, different flora and fauna make the North Rim of Grand Canyon our decompression zone. Some folks watch the ocean surf at the beach, or a campfire. We enjoy the hourly changes in color, shadow, and mood of the Grand Canyon viewed from the North Rim. Day 1 Our server Ed did a great job presenting the prime rib and Arizona Stronghold cab. He did well attending our needs including the blueberry cobbler. The food is very good and the menu variety should meet everyone's needs. The canyon views through the large windows of course cannot be over stated. Day 2 Lunch in the dining room with Kevin. Bison burger was good, as was the duck salad. Only comment is the salad had way too much greens for a lunch serving. Jamie, our server for the second night's dinner, brought the prickly pear citrus salmon and attended our every need which included an ice cream sundae for dessert. Day 3 Lunch with Kevin again, and a well fed squirrel in the dining room. We split the spinach salad and the club sandwich. Just the right amount of food the two of us. Dinner with Tim at a table for two. Halibut and a prime rib sandwich. Tawney port and bread pudding for dessert. The dining room menu and staff met every expectation and provide a wonderful dining experience in arguably one of the best locations on the planet. Morning or afternoon mocha lattes from the Rough Rider Saloon were perfect additions to the day's enjoyment. The Frontier Cabins are rustic log buildings with no frills amenities. After thirty years of travel to the North Rim we've seen telephone service move into the cabins and now empty telephone booths at the lodge standing as historical artifacts. What will we see next year?

Summary: Great experience overall. Wonderful room, helpful staff, and awesome views, but the food was sub-par. My son and I planned a south-to-north Rim-to-Rim hike in late May, so we made reservations here. The lodge and campground are hugely popular, and book up a year in advance, so getting reservations wasn't easy. I kept calling daily, and finally snagged a reservation for two nights about a month before our planned trip. Long range planning or perseverance seem to be essential if you're looking to stay here. The reservation system is very good, however; kudos to Forever Resorts on this. Our Rim-to-Rim was prevented by a trail closure on the North Kaibab Trail. The NPS sent us back out the South Rim, but we decided to drive to the North Rim, since we had reservations there. I'm glad we did! The lodge is fantastic! The views are incredible. And the whole atmosphere is much less crowded and more relaxed than the South Rim. We stayed in a Pioneer Cabin, which is really a small suite, so my son and I had separate rooms. His side had bunk beds and a fouton, my side had a queen bed. The cabin was clean, but rustic; no TV, for instance. The price of approx. $160 per night was fantastic for the size of the room. The cabin could have comfortably held five people. The lodge and cabins complex is pretty compact, so even though the parking lot is away from the cabins, most of the cabins are away from the lodge, and most of the cabins are away from the rim, everything in the complex is accessible with a five to ten minute walk, and the staff is very willing to help you get around. For example, we didn't need it, but they offered to take our bags from the parking lot to the cabin on a golf cart. If you have one of the cabins right near the rim you should take advantage of this, as the sidewalks drop away from the parking lot, so there are a few steep sections. There are plenty of trails nearby. The Bright Angel Point Trail was short, but had incredible views. There was one section that was like a bridge, with sheer dropoffs on either side, but the path itself is wide and paved. The other trails and viewpoints aren't within waling distance of the lodge, but they're only a short drive from the lodge. The food choices are limited. I looked in the deli, and the offerings frankly weren't appetizing at all. My son's comment was that the choices looked worse than his school cafeteria, so plan accordingly. I was glad we had lunch a Jacobs Lake on the way in. The dining room has fantastic views and very attentive staff. It fills up quickly, so make advance reservations to dine here. Some of the entrees, such as the steak, were quite good. Others, such as the chicken, were hardly edible. Overall, the quality of the food didn't match the decor or the price. Your options are limited, though, so I recommend that you make dinner reservations and have the steak. The quality of the food is what holds me back from giving this a five star rating. We didn't try it, but there is a nightly cookout for a fixed price; next time if the weather is nice I'll try the cookout and see how that is. The overall experience was great! I definitely want to go back!!!

The drive is very beautiful and relaxing for us, whenever we can get away, my husband and I love to take a drive. Today we headed to the North Rim. Been here before, yet, it always seem new when we come. The rolling green grasses on the road into the park is so pretty, you want to take off your shoes and just run like crazy through the tall green grass. This old Canyon lodge reminds me of my childhood experiences going to summer camp, El Tersoro. The rock and cedar building is classic lodge. And then there are the views from the great room and the lani. This would be a great place to spend a long weekend, however, they book up early and there was nothing available today. We were told they go really fast, and if you want to stay in one of the cabins, book ahead, early!
