Anthony's Italian Deli

I tried Anthony’s today and was very happy with my meal. I got the pizza poboy and my friend got a turkey Muffoletto. The people there are super friendly and wanna make sure you have a great dining experience. The atmosphere is very family friendly. If you’re in the mood for some good Italian sandwiches, give Anthony’s a try.

A buddy and I stopped in for lunch at Anthony’s Italian Deli in Baton Rouge, and it was an awesome experience from start to finish. The atmosphere is warm and inviting, the location is convenient, and the service was friendly and quick. My friend had the lunch spaghetti, and I went with the muffuletta — hands down the best muffuletta I’ve ever had! The flavors were incredible and the portions were generous. Anthony’s is a true gem, and I’ll definitely be back soon.

After a long day on the road, we were looking forward to our first meal in Baton Rouge, and Anthony’s seemed like a great pick. We love mom-and-pop places and enjoy Italian food, so the glowing reviews and long history had us excited. The staff was warm and friendly, and we appreciated the welcoming atmosphere. That said, we wish someone had advised us more strongly on portion sizes—while the comment “Y’all are going to have a lot of food” was made, we didn’t realize just how much. One Muffoletta would have been plenty for the two of us. We ordered the New Orleans Style Muffoletta, the Godfather, and a stuffed artichoke. Unfortunately, the food didn’t live up to our expectations. The sandwiches were average, and the stuffed artichoke was especially disappointing—it was so tough and fibrous that I couldn’t eat it, despite really wanting to enjoy it. I have fond memories of my mother preparing tender artichokes when I was young, and this one didn’t compare. One Muffoletta could easily serve a family of four with average appetites, perhaps with a side or two to share for those with heartier appetites. I do wish the size of the sandwiches had been explained to us, especially since we mentioned to the person taking our order that it was our first time visiting. We decided to give dessert a try, thinking we couldn’t go wrong with a classic cannoli—but unfortunately, we were disappointed once again. It lacked flavor and just didn’t hit the mark. We’re not sure if we just ordered the wrong items, given how many people seem to love this place. If we’re ever back in the area, we might give it another try and go for something from the pasta menu instead.

I had the shrimp spaghetti, which was great but i could not stop eating my boyfriends Deli sandwich!! It was absolutely out of this world!! Now that i know the food here is good i cannot wait to come back!! & dont get me started on hoe friendly the staff was!!!! I love it here!!!! Thank yall so much!!

Ordered 1/2 muffuletta with a house salad. Counter service was very friendly and attentive. The house salad was delicious with the balsamic dressing. The muffuletta is very good, but if you’re a fan they do use a little bit different bread than you may have had at other places. Here the bread is thinner and crisp. I really enjoyed my meal and I’m eager to return and try more menu items.

Literally one of my favorite places on face of the earth. I live in New Orleans but have to make opportunity to come here at least a couple times a year. Favorite muffuletta! Love the thin loaf.

Just wow!! This place is phenomenal! The service was incredible and the food was outstanding! The atmosphere gives a feeling of sitting at a bistro in Italy. I had the Italian Lovers and pasta salad. If I am ever back in town this will be my go to every time.

This place is amazing if you're looking for authentic Italian in the heart of Baton Rouge. I had a friend visiting from NY State. Muffalettas aren't a thing up there and he really wanted to try it. We both got one and it's probably the best I've tasted in this city. The man serving us was amazing as well! He's super friendly and knowledgeable. I've been living here for years and this is the first time I've visited here but it won't be the last!

I've been a patron of Anthony's Italian Deli for a long while. When I first discovered it, they were located in a tiny space out in the back of a commercial building on Florida Blvd. East. Now they are in a much better, but still cozy, space on Government Street. This facility has indoor dining space, patio dining space, and plenty of parking, including a back overflow lot. Anthony's has been in business so long due to authentic Italian cuisine, including a great variety of take out deli items. If you need some real Italian grocery items for your home, there's a good chance you can get them at Anthony's. However, if you would rather let them prepare your meal for you, that's an excellent option as well. I think they have a first rate muffuletta, and it's important to have the right bread and meats for those. This is something they have covered! Their Po-Boys are also my favorites. These are pressed so they are crispy and flattened. I typically like to get these with a small salad, which is indeed an excellent choice. If you have room, there's always some great dessert choices. Another consideration is picking up something to take home for later, I think a tub of high quality imported olives are a good selection. Don't forget their cheeses as well, these can lift your home cooking to a higher level. Next time you are in the Government Street Arts and Entertainment District, drop into Anthony's for a bite, dessert, or take home items. You'll definitely thank yourself later!

I'm in town for work and I came through here to get a to go plate for lunch. The restaurant itself has a lovely dining area filled with memorabilia showing the history of this beloved establishment. They have indoor and outdoor seating at comfortable, intimate tables. The staff are all very friendly and helpful. The menu is expansive with many delicious meals to choose from. I went with the large Italian salad and it was so fresh and tasty. The prices were fair. I will definitely come back to this spot!

I ordered a meatball sub ahead of time because I wanted to be able to have time to eat before they closed. I've never eaten here. The small sub and fountain side came to $23. See the image and you judge if it's worth it. They had their chairs up on the tables and were not at all accommodating even though I had plenty of time to eat before they closed. Never again. Over priced with poor service.

Never disappoints. I don't come here very often but when I do, I'm probably gonna get a salad. Sure it's weird, but they happen to have really epic Italian salads. The muffuletta salad is jam packed with deli meats you find on a traditional muffuletta on a bed of lettuce with lots of olives and a lovely vinaigrette. The pasta salad is so amazing I can't believe I hadn't tried it sooner - a huge portion, lots of meat, cheese and olives, and the same Italian vinaigrette that comes on the muffuletta salad. I saw they have a special with a muffuletta and a small portion of pasta salad and that will definitely be my next order. Honorable mention is their seafood lasagna. When they have it - get it. White sauce, plenty shrimp, delicious. Counter service is always great, food comes out quick for lunch, and they have a nice little patio on the 3 days we can sit outside for lunch. It's a must in mid city!

First time at Anthony's Italian Deli, and it was great! From the moment we walked in, we were treated like family by the friendly and kind staff. The service was top-notch, attentive, and made us feel right at home. And that's exactly what this place feels like - home! The quality of the ingredients is evident in every bite, and the food is simply delicious. My wife and I ordered the Godfather and the Marie sandwich, and they were amazing! The flavors, the freshness, the portion sizes... everything was just perfect. What sets Anthony's apart is the love and care they put into every aspect of the dining experience. You can tell they're passionate about what they do, and it shows in the food, the service, and the warm atmosphere. We can't wait to come back and try more of their incredible dishes. Muffuletta was good, not great. When compared to Central Grocery this sandwich had more veggies and less olives. What makes CG great is the chunky olive salad. This one fell short but still rated Good.

Where do I begin with how often these places !!! it is the most authentic Italian place in the area. The food is absolutely amazing in every regards. I have never had a bad meal here, ever !!! Ultimate go to lasagna. It is the absolute best lasagna I have ever had. And I actually lived in the city near Little Italy, for many many years and this lasagna blows all of their away. Bring the whole family and enjoy the best Italian food you will ever have !!! The portion sizes are very generous, and the staff is always friendly and willing to help you with a recommendation !!! And on a sidenote. This place has the best muffaletta in town.

First timer and I can't wait to go back! I saw this deli in the Baton Rouge 225 awards, and I thought I give it a shot... so glad I did! Right on Government street, it was so easy to find with plenty of parking around the buidling. Right when I walked it, I knew I was in the right place! The closet place to an Italian Deli that I have seen since moving to Baton Rouge. Such an authentic feel to it. I got The Godfather poboy and it was delicious and tasted so fresh. You could either choose from a large size or a poboy size. There were plenty of sandwich options too. I got mine to go, but there were plenty of tables inside and outside... all covered with red and white plastic cloths, just what I would expect in an Italian restaurant lol! So good and can't wait to bring my parents back here!

Excellent food. Try the meatball or Italian Lovers poboy. Muffslettas are great. Pasta dishes are wonderful. Great desserts.

Anthony's is a gem of a place. After hitting New Orleans and seeing the Central Market has been destroyed and is no longer in business (for now), we were dying for Muffuletta. We were heading to one of our places to visit and along the route my daughter found Anthony's Deli listed as having incredible Muffuletta sandwiches. Well let me tell you something. THIS is the real deal and it rivals the Central Market. The proportion of meats to olive spread and the bread were incredible. The staff were fantastic and they have indoor and outdoor dining with a nice shaded patio. Everything about this sandwich was wow and if you are within range of Anthony's take a detour and have the best Muffuletta I have ever had. 5 stars

This is a fun little family deli. The sandwiches are delicious! They have some plates, Julie always gets the spaghetti and meatballs! They have take and bake dishes and you can buy deli meats and such. Everyone behind the counter greets you like family and there is outdoor dining if you would enjoy that also. I imagine that place is swamped at lunchtime, we usually go later.

I go here often to get Italian specialty meats to make muffuletta sandwiches. The also have frozen meals you can take home and bake. What I've had was tasty but I mostly come for the deli meats

I love Anthony's. I've been eating at Anthony's back when they were located on Florida blvd. I had their 1/2 Muff special which comes with a half muffuletta and a salad. The service has always been great, and the food is amazing. I always struggle to decid to get either a muff, spaghetti, or the meatball po boy.

My wife's friend told her this is the best mufaletta in town. The sign out front says so, too. And it IS really good. Different than others I've had. The bread is nice and toasty (appears to have been mashed in a press) and there is a bit of spicy red pepper in the olive salad. Gives it a nice kick. Not the thickest layer of meat you can get, but plenty enough to fill you up. (Can't speak to service and atmosphere except to say that drive through service during the coronavirus quarantine is quick and easy. I hope to be back another time and try some other menu items - even if it is all the way across town)

Still a classic and never disappoints! Have to add that the limoncello mascarpone cake is now a must-try! Perfectly light and sweet.

The food is SO good. The staff is all incredibly friendly as well. I forgot a sweater there over multiple days and they recognized me when I came back looking for it! Love this place

Pros: Pasta salad was 10/10. Cons: Staff wasn't very friendly. Charged $2 to add tomato to pasta salad.

Moved to the Mid City area recently. Been trying out the many new restaurants in the area as I lived across town for the last 2+ years. Stopped in for lunch one day and had the meatball poboy. It was very good. Friendly staff. Plan on going back again soon.

This was our first stop at Anthony's Italian Deli. It has a very eclectic vibe with lots of it's history hanging on the walls. It's a family owned business, and we loved the feel. There appeared to be many regulars there, which I viewed as a good sign. Everyone seemed to be enjoying their food, and all looked good to me. We decided to split a muffuletta. First, it is absolutely HUGE. I could only eat about 1/4 of a total sandwich, and we had to bring some home. The taste is awesome, and the cheese was melted perfectly. I'd get it again anytime I'm in the mood for one. We will absolutely be back and highly recommend them!

As far back as I remember I've always wanted to be a gangster. But let's face it, I'm just an Irish hoodlum who couldn't pull it off. So I head over to Anthony's deli to evoke that Italian American gangster spirit. And does it ever come out. Sitting inside the small deli or outside on the terrace, absolutely crushing some meatballs or the Marie sandwich, I'm alive. For a small window of time, I feel like Freddy no nose and Frankie the whop might slide in and start talking about the next job. I love every second of it. Anthony's is quaint, and is predicated on a clear family tradition of incredible food, and the insane ability to make losers like myself feel like an absolute boss via a sandwich. How is that possible? What kind of dark magic is this? I'll tell you how it works. Their food is such a delicacy, and loved in such a way, and balanced so incredibly flavor to flavor, that it actually invokes imagination. Food that causes you to day dream. Auditory and visual hallucinations. Usually you have to get ahold of some drugs for that kind of experience. All you actually have to do is allow yourself to be transported to another dimension of Italia through their menu. I've had everything they make, and not one thing I don't like. Their food has helped me through cancer and chemo therapy. In fact, I believe that it is directly correlated to the fact that I'm in remission. This food cures what ails you. Give in....submit yourself to the wonders of Anthony's Italian Deli,

Got a chance to try this hidden gem and I kid you not, this place has the Best capresse, muffelata, and meat ball sub i've ever had in my life! They wasn't kidding when they said they were known for their muffelata and meat ball sub. I highly highly recommend this place! The owner was also super friendly too! And their Dark Coffee creme brulee was rolling too!

We absolutely love Anthony's. The meatball Poboy is my fav. Friendly service and the food is always top notched. We have been frequenting this eatery on Florida Blvd & now Government for years.

Fantastic food, giant muffs, even the oil and vinegar dressing for the pasta salad side (which is enough for a meal) was molto delizioso! Reminds me of our neighborhood Italian deli when I was a kid, local stuff on the walls, boxes of products for sale...fantastico! And everyone there is so sweet, especially Nonna and the girls! Didn't have room for dessert, but need to go back to attack the dessert case!

This place is way, way, way overrated. Average Italian fare, sandwiches aren't worth the price they charge. Disappointed.

This is a small quaint deli/restaurant . I've been meaning to stop by for awhile . I stopped and got the lasagna plate lunch to go it was $15 with tax . I was greeted when I walked in . They also sell deli products and products from Italy . I really wanted a muffuletta but they are huge which they offered half of one lol. I'll go back with my husband to try one . The lasagna was pretty good but the salad was delicious. Sadly the salad was extremely small. The bread was tasty and a nice size piece . All in all I will be back to try the muffulettas!

I stop in at least once every time I visit my hometown. Outstanding quality. Lunch specials offer good value too!

Solid Italian food at Anthony's! We came because we heard they had the best muffulettas in BR, which definitely could be the case! They were delicious. They serve them warm, which was different than other places. We ended up trying a few other dishes, such as the lasagna and the Italian sausage. All the food was solid and pretty authentic! We will be back for sure.

Great, traditional sandwiches. Cold cuts, meatball, muffuletta, you name it. Everything is amazing.

I have a new pit stop between Houston and New Orleans - muffuletta New Orleans style was awesome and would recommend Anthony's - maybe 5 min North of I-10 via College Dr...no surprises here and if I had a scale I would guess the whole (large) is at least one Lb of meats/cheeses/olive dressing and Anthony's secret sauce...give it a try - you won't be disappointed!

Unbelievable food. Great family ran business. Wonderful people working. The muffulettas are great. You can get take away trays for functions that will not disappoint!!

Lunch to go today and never disappoints ... DELICIOUS! We had the muffalatta with pasta and Italian salad. Can't forget the desserts ... limoncello cake, chocolate mouse cake and cannolis ... oh so good and service is always impeccable wether to go or eat inside.

The muffulettas here are the BEST in Louisiana. Sorry New Orleans, but we've tried them all and these are without question the best. No contest. Being from Southern Louisiana, we grew up eating these wonderful Italian sandwiches. These tangy olive, provolone, mortadella, ham, and salami 8" round warmed sandwiches. The bread is made from an old family recipe and cannot be matched. The lasagna is fabulous and the tiramisu is the perfect finish. Call ahead 15 minutes for pickup. The stand alone restaurant is usually busy. It's a regional favorite. Highly recommend this casual place for lunch or to grab muffulettas to tailgate before a big game, fishing, or picnics. Tell Marco and his mom "hi" when you go in. They always treat you like family.

Omg the muffulettas are so delicious...!!! We had the pizza items and the original muffulettas , We had some in the restaurant an we took some for the road too... must try also was the sausage with tomato sauce it was delicious... the only bad thing is the is only 1,600 miles away from us ... we had a road trip to new orlean... we live in Las Vegas ... but will definitely drive those mile to eat those delicious muffulettas

This might be the best sandwich in Baton Rouge. Definitely the best Italian deli sandwich in Baton Rouge. The staff is very welcoming, and it feels like a true Italian deli experience. Must try.

Always friendly service which is a must for a complete dining experience. The food is authentically delectable. One day I'll force myself to eat something other than the Lasagna but it's hard to pass up the opportunity to taste authenticity. The Lasagna is legit with its perfectly textured sheet pasta and flavorful meat sauce. The ambience is quaint and has a family intimacy about it. Love it. Highly recommend.

LOVE this place. the lasagna plate is wed-friday i think and melt in your mouth amazing. but you literally can't go wrong with anything on the menu. the muffuletta & the meatball sub are my other favorites. the almond cream cake is also delicious. also offers fresh deli & frozen items.

I found out about Anthony's Deli through my roommate who told me about their famous muffulettas. I always been a huge fan of muffulettas in general so I had to give this place a try. The service was outstanding, very friendly, and informative about any questions you had about the menu. I got the muffulettas and all I could say was wow! The different meats along with the cheese and the olive salad was total harmony in my mouth. The bread itself was soft and truly complimented the sandwich with all the good stuff inside. I also got their Tiramisu which I have to say was easily the best I had in any restaurant to this date ! Overall I highly recommend Anthony's Deli !
