NYC Restaurant Openings: September 2024 | Eater NY

"Occupying the former Strangeways space in Williamsburg, The Test Brewery bills itself as a test‑brewing kitchen focused on experimental cans rather than predominantly on draft service." - Melissa McCart

Top IPA's to drink in NY. Fresh, super tasty and intense! Prices were really good in this taproom. Test is new brewery and I can say - they will stay here for looooong time. Awesome stuff!

I visited Test Brewery with some friends and family and we loved it!! The space is beautiful. They have a huge covered outdoor area and as well as a bar and extra seating indoors. We sat outside and tried some really tasty wine and beer. Great vibe, drinks, staff, everything. Highly recommended.

Great beer, amazing staff, and a great location A must stop if I’m in the area either to grab something for my fridge at home or to decompress after a long day. Thanks to the staff at Test for doing what you do and doing it with your heart.

The ambience is second to none, a naturally lit, well kept space that feels like you’re back home in your mother’s garden. As you step into the patio area, you’re greeted with an inviting atmosphere, where the sunlight filters through lush greenery, creating a wonderful environment for some cheeky natural wine. David, the bar’s resident expert, is very knowledgeable and inviting. His knowledge of the house wines is impressive, and he takes the time to guide you through their selection with passion. The Test is the new “spot” a much welcomed addition to Williamsburg.

It's great to know that a new brewery has opened in the city. Having just opened around 4 months ago it's not yet well known but with it's convenient location in Williamsburg I'm believe it will be a fixture in the neighborhood. The place seems to specialize in IPAS but there are a few lagers and other beverages available.

Friendly and inviting staff, lovely atmosphere with plenty of space for large groups, amazing selection of beer (their own and guest brews on tap). Powerful fans for the hot days so you can enjoy the outdoors with a cold beer or glass of natural wine (all local to NY!). Dog friendly in the garden and playlist is 🔥. Not to be missed neighborhood gem!!

We were altered to this new-ish brewery when we stopped by another brewery around the corner during a craft beer 'crawl'. WOW! Glad we did. An amazing space which includes a huge covered area (great for large parties). They also have a patio out back. The beer. Mostly IPAs. Most over 6.5% ABV. ALL so taste & delicious. They know how to make beer. Got to meet one of the owners (and his lovely wife) while we were there. Passionate about his beer. Could have talked all afternoon long. Highly recommend. We will be back...often.

Google
New neighborhood brewery, still in the process of setting up their indoor space at the time of my visit. Currently pouring a mix of their own brews and some guest beers. It's a heavy focus on IPAs, and all of their own are hazy oat IPAs. Large outdoor space with communal tables, both covered and open air. Kitchen will come with the indoor space.

Yelp
The TEST Brewery is a craft brewery that opened in Brooklyn, New York in July 2024. It was founded by brewer Ben Clayton. After starting out as a homebrewer, Clayton made a name for himself as the leader of the bar program at the Manhattan outpost of Blue Hill: a Michelin Star-awarded restaurant. In the late 2010s, he teamed up with his longtime friend Ryan Jorgenson. The two had both home-brewed together after both moving from California to Brooklyn. Together they founded the gypsy brewing operation Freethought Brewing. Although the operation was successful, Clayton broke off on his own in 2020 and started a new gypsy brewing operation which he dubbed TEST. He described his new venture as a "test kitchen brewing company". Clayton's girlfriend Jane Moriarty came on board as his business partner. TEST initially operated through online sales and in-person pop-ups. The brewery was met with success almost immediately via word of mouth. TEST also gained attention through collaborations with popular established breweries such as Root + Branch Brewing, Evil Twin Brewing and Hudson Valley Brewery. Clayton and Moriarty finally found a physical space in Brooklyn's Williamsburg neighborhood at the former Strangeways restaurant location. Initially opening as just an outdoor beer garden, the interior taproom opened to the public a few months later. I recently visited TEST while I was cycling around NYC. I was trying out a number of Brooklyn breweries and pizzerias and this was my fifth and final stop of the day. TEST had been on my radar for some time. I was impressed with how they seemed to come out of nowhere, gained popularity very quickly, and had done collaborations with some of my favorite breweries. After looking over the extensive draft list, I started out with a short pour of "Eternal Echoes" (Double New England IPA). It had nice hints of oats and tropical fruit. Up second, I had a short pour of "Hypnagogia" (Double New England IPA). It was so smooth with delicious citrus notes. I ended my visit with a short pour of "World Builder" (Imperial Coffee Stout). My favorite beer of the whole visit, it was an explosion of delicious coffee and chocolate notes! TEST totally lived up to the hype! In fact, I would even rank them in my Top 10 favorite breweries! I look forward to seeing what they'll do next!

Yelp
The Test Brewery is a newly opened local brewery in Williamsburg - I was so excited to hear of a new brewer in the neighborhood! My partner and I came to try some of their beer over the weekend and enjoyed it. They seem to specialize in IPAs, but had other varieties on tap in addition to some guest taps as well. Everything we tried was great. Service was friendly, and the space itself is very large. I can definitely see it becoming a popular spot once word gets out! Exterior is pretty non-descript, we had actually passed it at first, so keep your eyes peeled when you go.

Yelp
Wow - this place is so gorgeous and service is amazing!! Their century IPA was smooth and delicious; the keg kicked while I was there and the canned was just as fresh and drinkable. One of the owners, Jane, even let me sample some wine they were considering as a guest pour - also delicious. Can't wait to come back!

Yelp
My service dog and I had a wonderful early afternoon tasting great beer and chatting with the sweet bartender. Beer was delicious. Cute vibe. Good energy.

Yelp
I went to Test on Friday and had half pours of 6 different beers. Each beer was better than the next. I was not surprised because the brewer Ben has been making great beer at other breweries. His knowledge of beer was just as impressive as his attention to details. The tasting room was expansive, with plenty of seats indoors and outside. Brittany was our beer tender and was very nice. She recommend her favorite restaurant and was very helpful. She also got us water without asking. Love this place.
