21 Best Restaurants in Vancouver

"It’s more than a little confusing that Vancouver, a city ideally situated to harvest the Pacific Ocean’s bounty, has so few fine dining seafood restaurants; Blue Water Café, however, is a notable exception. Located in Yaletown and set in a converted warehouse, this is a warm and intimate spot. Dishes like sablefish with a miso sake glaze or yellowfin tuna with pepper piperade and romesco sauce go a long way toward showing what, exactly, a sure-handed cook can do with delicate ingredients." - Guy Saddy, Nicole Schnitzler

Blue Water Café – Restaurant Review | Condé Nast Traveler

"What sets this place apart in the city's dining scene? It’s more than a little confusing that Vancouver, a city ideally situated to harvest the Pacific Ocean’s bounty, has so few fine dining seafood restaurants; Blue Water Café, however, is a notable exception. Located in Yaletown and set in converted warehouse, this is a warm and intimate spot, despite its considerable size. The long bar that dominates one side of the room is often busy, but it’s hardly raucous or out of control. What's the crowd like? Tourists, business-account diners, and serious foodies looking to experience the best seafood in town. What should we be drinking? The bar is more than capable, but the star of the show here is the wine cellar; with about 14,000 bottles, it promises something for everyone. What can we expect from the menu? Dishes like sablefish with a miso sake glaze or yellowfin tuna with pepper piperade and romesco sauce go a long way toward showing what, exactly, a sure-handed cook can do with delicate ingredients. But the raw bar is also worth a test-drive; seafood tower or jellyfish-scallop ceviche, anyone?" - Guy Saddy

The 38 Best Restaurants in Vancouver | Eater

"Raw from the sushi bar or cooked from the open kitchen, seafood is the star at this Yaletown institution. Widely acknowledged as one of Canada’s leaders in responsible seafood, chef Frank Pabst and team push the culinary envelope a little each February with their Unsung Heroes festival, which celebrates lesser-loved species, encouraging diners to broaden their palates and try more sustainable seafood such as poached periwinkles and red sea urchin trifle. Year-round, the service is superb, the wine list dizzyingly wonderful, and the British Columbian seafood towers a splurge meal you’ll adore." - Nikki Bayley

"Routinely crowned the city’s top seafood restaurant, Blue Water Cafe is also among the continent’s best. After honing his skills at Michelin-starred restaurants in Europe, executive chef Frank Pabst opened this Yaletown classic to marry fine-dining techniques with local, sustainable ingredients. Eventually, the restaurant became a founding member of the Ocean Wise program, which helps consumers make ocean-friendly seafood choices. When visiting, you can belly up to the bar—which boasts more than 200 whiskeys and 1,000 wine labels—or reserve a table in the elegant brick-and-beamed dining room, housed in a heritage warehouse. Come summertime, however, you’ll want to head straight to the patio for sushi and premium sake. Fancy a splurge? Go for the seafood tower, which showcases the bounty of British Columbia."

We celebrated a birthday at Blu Water Cafe on Boxing Day and had a fantastic experience. We focused on the raw and sushi bar, ordering oysters, trout and tuna tartare, hamachi, and several rolls – all were excellent. The flavors were fresh, bright, and clean, exactly what you want from quality seafood. Every dish was beautifully executed and showcased the ingredients perfectly. The cocktails were equally impressive and paired wonderfully with our meal. The menu is extensive with so much we didn’t get to try, which just means we’ll have to return. We finished with the lava cake for dessert, and the restaurant made our birthday celebration feel special with thoughtful touches. Highly recommended for anyone looking for top-notch seafood in Vancouver. The raw bar alone is worth the visit.

My brother and I came here to enjoy a dinner for two as a prize we won at a hockey game. It was an AMAZING experience! We were treated like royalty, we had such a fun time, and the food was spectacular. Everything was so well though out and our servers were just lovely. Thankful for such a quality experience.

We sat at the main bar and our server, Adam, was outstanding. He was hopping busy behind the bar and yet gave us excellent guidance on menu options. We took his advice on our sushi order, and his suggestions were our favourite bites…right down to offering to flash fry the prawn head garnish on our sashimi platter - yum! Excellent dirty martinis, too. It was unusually busy on a Sunday evening with events happening downtown. We were off to Dave Chappelle. - timed out perfectly for us. 90 minute service.

We are seafood lovers, and my husband took me here for my birthday dinner. The oysters were very fresh and juicy. The food was good, and the service was great. We sat in the balcony area, which was warm. The only downside was the heater — it couldn’t be adjusted, so when one table complained that it was too hot, they turned it off. Once it was off, it got cold again, so they had to keep switching it on and off. The walkway to the washroom was also quite dark. Overall, we had a great time there.

We had an amazing dining experience at Blue Water Cafe. Everything was perfect - from the warm, friendly service - to the lovely booth we got just for the two of us, even on a busy night, which made the evening feel even more special. The food was great, and the cocktails were excellent. If you love fish and seafood, this place is a must-visit when in Vancouver. They also offer an extensive wine list and some fantastic cocktail options. Would definitely go back! [Date of visit: 07 October 2025]

We visited Blue Water Cafe in Vancouver after making the trip in from White Rock, and it was absolutely worth it. The atmosphere is elegant yet welcoming, and the overall vibe is fantastic. A huge shout-out to our waiter Liam, who was truly exceptional. His service was attentive, friendly, and knowledgeable — he made the experience feel extra special. The seafood was incredibly fresh and delicious, easily some of the best we’ve had. Every dish was beautifully prepared and full of flavour. Highly recommend this spot for anyone looking for a memorable dining experience. We’ll definitely be back!

Food was good but on the smaller portion. Really enjoyed the sablefish. Unfortunately our server constantly forgot our orders and required a lot of follow-ups until we got our items out, expected more from a higher priced restaurant.

The place was buzzing on a Tuesday night! We had to wait a rather long time for our food but it was delicious. The salad was a little overdressed and salty but the halibut was well prepared with just the right amount of firmness. The oysters were tiny but flavouful and Antoine, our waiter, did a great job of describing them. I didn't see anyone complaining but my friends and i felt that the restaurant was overheated. Service was prompt despite the crowds.
