The Lighthouse is located on busy Battersea Park Road in Battersea, southwest London. The nearest station is Battersea Park.
This pub was built in 1866 and was originally known as The Clock House. The name comes from the small, crowning clock that sits atop the building. The pub has had a few monikers over the years, such as Dovedale House and later Bar Room Bar. The pub was renamed The Lighthouse in 2008.
This is a good-sized, one-bar pub with a comfortable, contemporary feel. The bar area is L-shaped, with a centrally located traditional servery and modern pendant lights above. Opposite the servery is a row of comfy booths, while the area by the entrance is open plan with a variety of seating.
The decor consists of boarded floors with rugs, light- and dark-painted walls, a fine selection of mixed artwork, and some interesting bric-a-brac. At the rear of the pub, there is a sizeable, decked, south-facing, walled beer garden with a retractable roof.
The beer selection is solid and offers a range of familiar favourites, local independent brews, and cask ale. I decided on a Pravha; my pint was great, price point was a smidge above average. The food menu features hearty pub classics—fish and chips cost £17.50—and roasts are available on Sundays.
I arrived at 11am on a chilly Saturday morning in January. The pub had just opened, so everything was calm and relaxed. I ordered my pint, had a good mooch around, and sat at a poser table to enjoy it alongside the decent soundtrack. The service was excellent; the team on duty were welcoming, friendly, and courteous.
Visiting this Young’s pub was a very agreeable experience all round. The building and architecture were easy on the eye. The interior had an upmarket, contemporary feel, which made settling in very easy, and the beer was good without breaking the bank. The service was on point, and the beer garden is a massive bonus. I enjoyed it here — definitely worth a visit if you’re in this neck of the woods.
