We decided to an overnight trip in Milwaukee, and the first thing we wanted to experience was a delicious and boozy Milwaukee brunch. After much research, we stumbled on Centraal, which seemed to not only have a promising menu but a potentially cool vibe.
Unfortunately, things didn't unfold the way I would have hoped. When we walked in, the hostess told us she would be right with us to put our name in for a table. I guess in that time, someone received a text for a table. They stood behind us in line. However, when another hostess came back, before we could add our names, the lady behind us essentially 'cut' in front of us to get seated. I had to quickly tell the hostess that when she was back, we wanted to put our names in. She was unapologetic, but did add our name to the list when back. We ended up sitting at the bar because some seats opened up. Unfortunately, the service was super slow and the bartenders hardly checked on us for additional drinks or the tab. It took several attempts to finally flag them down for our check.
The food was just as mediocre as the service. My husband got the cheesy beef and hashbrown potatoes and I got the chicken and biscuit with chorizo gravy. His meat looked a bit sad and boiled, but at least it was tender. It was unfortunately flavorless. The chicken and biscuit was better than his dish but still lacking. The jalapeño and cheddar biscuit didn't taste of either. The egg was overcooked, and the chorizo gravy had little to no flavor. At least the chicken was good.
The highlight of the visit was the drink selections. We enjoyed our Bloody Marys (and they had a good selection of different variations). They also had a delicious version of an espresso martini with a caramel-infused vodka.
Overall, I likely would consider finding another brunch if only in Milwaukee for a short time.
