"The historical gem that is Nordhavn’s old Customs House was painstakingly deconstructed in 2019, with each limestone block numbered, before 2024 saw it lovingly reassembled again in its same 1916 design. Now home to 15-seater Sushi Anaba, it combines Danish tradition with a Japanese aesthetic, the centrepiece of which is a beautiful Douglas Fir counter. This is probably the best sushi place in the nordics. Seats a dozen by the counter where you can watch chefs preparing your meals. Be on time (or a little early) as the service starts exactly on time. The food is a mix of different preparations - you'll get some nigiris, different parts of tuna in various preparations, a curry/tonkatsu-like dish, but also fresh local tomato presentation. Two plus hours will fly by quickly and you'll love every minute of it.

Top 5 best restaurant experience ever. From the moment we arrived until we left the after-dinner lounge it was a perfect evening. Mads and the team are highly skilled at translating the Japanese kitchen to a Nordic context, and we were surprised and awed by the new and unique taste, flavour and texture we got to experience throughout the meal. A must visit and we are sure to be back.

The food is great, the service is great compare with most of other restaurants. But since it is award as Michelin one star and based on my experience I would only think it is 3/5 for the food. First of all, I think the vinegar rice I had is a bit too salty which over take the some white fish nigiri flavour. Secondly, I had one fish bone in of the nigiri. Third, I think most of the nigiri is using same sauce with all kind of fish is a bit too simple. Last thing I would like to mention is that the bowl of the soup dish I had is a bit broken. As Michelin one star restaurants, I think this is a bit unpleasant experience.

Sublim - exceptionel - and yet so unbelievable simple! Sushi Anaba was everything we dreamed it would be. Guided by quiet mastery, chef Mads Battefeld crafted each piece with intent — not to impress, but to express pure, uncompromising perfection & tradition. We were blown away! Why this hasn’t 1 or 2 Michelin stars, is still a mystery, but that doesn’t change the fact that this is one of Copenhagen’s best food experiences!

An incredible experience with a delicious tasting menu. The sushi and warm dishes were all complex, fresh and delightful. Impeccable attention to detail, from the interior decor to the food preparation to the greeting when we arrived. Worth it!!

Located just at the corner of the building, the entrance is where there is a small court yard outside. The staff were very friendly and greeted us in similar Japanese manner. We had a non alcoholic pairing with the sushi omakase and it worked well. The seafood was very fresh and used a wider variety of fish within Scandinavia. Although some dishes were slightly salty, but it may be catered for the Danish palate. A combination of traditional and contemporary techniques. Highly recommend! 😋🍣

One of the best food experiences I have ever had. Although the price tag is high, it was all worth it. It is a must try maybe once (or twice) in your life. It is that good. We got the menu with everyone else and we were 8 (4x2 pax). Definitely a restaurant I would say live up to my expectations.
