Maybe you’ve eaten it in a parallel universe, but most likely it’s because you've had Nicole Rucker's treats from one of the many places she's baked around town. Now in Culver City as well as a stall in DTLA's Grand Central Market, she's doing her signature pies back in flavors like rhubarb cherry and whipped-cream-topped Key lime topped with whipped cream, as well as a variety of chewy brownies and sprinkle-topped cookies. In late 2023, when Rucker opened a standalone bakery on a quieter stretch of Washington Boulevard in Culver City, Westsiders also celebrated. Whether you visit the stand in Grand Central Market or the counter-service cafe in Culver City, you’ll be met with a glass case full of fresh-baked slices with shattering, golden crusts. The fruit pies rotate with the seasons, like strawberry rhubarb crumble, sour cherry double crust, and a summer peach pie that sells out quicker than a sneaker release. But the star of the show is the creamy key lime, a menu mainstay that nails the sweet-tart balance. Slices can be picked up the day of, but whole pies must be ordered in advance.
