Gourmet burgers, tacos, and salads at this roadside diner

"Gott’s Roadside, a popular burger diner based in St. Helena in Napa Valley, is expanding to Los Angeles in fall 2025. Originally known as Taylor’s Automatic Refresher, the diner was renamed after a trademark dispute. It has received a James Beard America’s Classics award and is famous for its burgers like the California burger, featuring Niman Ranch beef and Cowgirl Creamery Wagon Wheel cheese. It offers a diverse menu including options like kimchi burgers and Impossible meat." - Matthew Kang

"Gott’s Roadside has long been a popular, small local burger chain for a quick-and-casual lunch, and owner Joel Gott recently added another casual eatery—the Station—inside a working gas station. The Station functions primarily as an upscale coffee shop, pizzeria, and grab-and-go market with a shady picnic area; open from 7:30 a.m. to 8 p.m., it’s a convenient stop for a fresh smoothie or hot coffee at breakfast, pizza by the slice or pie at lunch, wine and beer, and very large, very delicious cookies." - Matt Villano, Jessie Beck

"Taylor’s Refresher was a classic drive-in dating back to 1949; the Duncan brothers took over the lease in 1999 and ultimately renamed it Gott’s Roadside in 2010 (which led to some family feuding). Today, Gott’s has expanded to more than half a dozen locations, but the original is still a quintessential roadside attraction in wine country. There are burgers and shakes, starring local Niman Ranch beef and Straus dairy, but also ahi burgers and tacos, half a dozen salads, and sweet potato fries." - Becky Duffett
"If you’ve spent any time in St. Helena, you’ve noticed the line outside Gott’s, and yes, we’re going to tell you to stand in it (or at the very least order ahead online). It’s gourmet fast food at its finest with a picnic table-style patio, where kids and the occasional wine-fueled grownup run wild. There is no wrong order here, but we come for the burgers (try the California and Western), the fish tacos (poke and mahi), and specialties like the Mexican street corn and chicken schnitzel sandwich. If you go for the sweet potato fries (which you should), make sure to snag an extra side of the housemade ranch, and don’t leave without one of the thick milk shakes. If you miss this location, there’s another at the Oxbow in downtown Napa." - christina julian

"Let's face it: a day of tasting big, expressive reds can be exhausting, and Gott's Roadside is exactly what you'll need after a morning of winery visits to soothe your weary palate (Fat! Protein! Carbs!) and fortify you for the afternoon: it has no Michelin stars, you wait in line to order, and they sell T-shirts and hats — all part of the charm — and menu standouts for me include the Western Bacon Blue Ring, the Kimchi Burger, and solid fish and seafood tacos; you'll leave ready to face the next round of Cabernet, and probably with a new T-shirt." - Brian Freedman
