Five Restaurants and Bars Including Mitchell’s Ice Cream Just Became Legacy Businesses in San Francisco | Eater SF
"At Oakland’s Fruitvale Public Market, I learned many tenants are having problems due to ongoing construction in the adjacent plaza and shootings in the area; merchants have proposed solutions including requesting private security or police officers at the plaza and making "much-needed upgrades" such as paint and outdoor seating, while the Unity Council said beautification efforts will be wrapped by September 15 but policing efforts have mostly stalled (for example, a decoy police car was only in place for a week before being removed by the police department)." - Dianne de Guzman
Run by The Unity Council at the heart of Fruitvale, this market runs multiple days each week and centers Latino foodways with produce, hot foods, and neighborhood vendors. It’s highlighted by Visit Oakland and community outlets for accessibility by BART and acceptance of WIC and EBT.
It's a nice ready doing hub in the Fruitvale District. There's been some gentrification, for better or worse, but importantly it has (so far) retained it's character. There's great food in the village and a small but really nice farmers market on Thursdays.
