Beautiful tropical feeling in the desert. We loved the restaurant and the food! Lunch vibes and casual dining. We enjoyed our chile rellenos, filled with delicious cheese mixture and the outside was so crunchy and yummy. Chips and salsa We delicious, salsa homemade and with a hint of spice. Would definitely cone back.

We held our wedding reception at the Double Eagle, and it was absolutely beautiful! The staff were amazing and made sure we had a wonderful evening where everything ran smoothly. The food was great, and the setting was absolutely beautiful!

The atmosphere is stunning. Old House charm with lights and decor. They tried to seat us in the side dining room with no one else there, kinda weird knowing we had reservations and could have a table in the main dining room with other patrons. Good it self was good, but not spectacular.

The wedding we held at the Double Eagle in Old Mesilla was absolutely phenomenal. The venue is historic, timeless, and unique. Our guests were 'wowed' by the ornate bar, palm court, formal dining room, decor, and art. The food was outstanding--everything was beautifully served, hot, and delicious. Shoutout to Amy Lavender, who planned and managed our event. Amy, you did an awesome job and kept us organized, told us what we needed to consider, and guided us through every detail. AND you're very fun to work with! I'd advise anyone looking for a special wedding venue to give Amy a call at the Double Eagle. We have many happy memories of the event and appreciate everything the staff did to create such a magical evening!

We held our wedding reception at the Double Eagle, and it was beautiful. There were a couple of things that could have been better. It was brought to our attention that the cake was leaning backwards. I would have made our cake; however, I was informed it had to be made in house. Also, there was no bartender available during the dance portion of our ceremony. The guests were very impressed with the venue and food.

First and last time here. We came here tonight for my birthday and I was honestly less than satisfied with everything. The food was good. The bus gal the amazing. Always making sure our waters were filled and table was clean. The drinks were meh. For the price of the old fashions I would have thought they would be done correctly. And they weren’t. But they still were drinkable. The server we had however, probably the worst service I’ve gotten anywhere. There was only 4 tables in the room and the server we had only had us as a table. Our first round of drinks came out at a reasonable time. And our server took our food order at that time. She asked for which sides we wanted and then asked if we wanted soup or salad with our meals. And how she asked it thought it same with the meal. But we were surprised when we saw on the bill that we were charged for them. We wanted to order another round of drinks before our food came out but our server was no where to be found. Several minutes later our food was delivered and we put in a second round of drinks. We were finished with our meal and waiting for a box by the time our drinks arrived. And we know it wasn’t the bars fault because we saw the other tables promptly get their drinks and when we received ours, the ice was half melted. We saw our server maybe a total of 4 times the whole night. For being a “fine dining” establishment, I’m very disappointed with the service. The food was good but not good enough to come back for the overpriced mediocre drinks and terrible service.

It's still a great place, but it's not quite the same as before. We miss the wonderful buffet that was a regular Sunday thing (2023). We just went back for a fantastic dinner! This place is a definite go-to for an amazing dinner with friends or just your significant other.

Google
Came here with a large group for a team dinner after a full day of work. We had a reservation and we were seated promptly in one of their side rooms. This place is beautiful on the inside and you are really coming here for the atmosphere. The food was just OK, the ribeye was cooked as requested to medium well but was likely only a USDA Select grade of meat. The house salad with Green Chili Ranch was the winner for the night, it really popped with the right amount of spice and flavor. The service was relatively slow but we were a large group but we had several people helping us. Seemed like the water was tough to get refilled and we didn't get our bread until everyone was nearly done with their entrees. I would definitely come here again with a more intimate group to give it a try! But again you come here for the atmosphere!

Yelp
Where do I start. I always like this place. But recently my most current visits have seemed, very routine. The food strikes me as normal, nothing like wow. In the past, as I grew up the double eagle was like the top notch place to go here. So this review is well, kind of like the food. Nothing fantastic. Even the ferns in there. I just didn't think the ambiance was over the top anymore. The servers are still good. The drinks are cold, the scotch is good. 4 stars cause my phone kept flying off the table and I was convincing the ghost was screwing with me. Maybe I have higher expectations of this place due to the hype and history. It's suppose to be classy in my mind

Yelp
I have to say that the food was amazing ing!! The ribeye steaks were cooked to perfection! They had a mild mesquite flavor, and were absolutely delicious! I also had a cup of their New Mexico red chili posole--yummy! Our waiter was nice, but perhaps he was too busy to focus on all of his tables. I had to walk over to the maître d' to ask for our drink order. And once our food was served, I noticed we had not been served bread. I asked our waiter, but by the time it was brought, we were just about done eating. All things considered, we will be back! The food is just tooooo good not to! Lol

Yelp
I'll just start by saying the best part of our experience was our server, Grant. He was very attentive, interactive with our group and just a pleasant person. Booked it for a pre-birthday dinner for my mom's birthday. We had 4 adults, 1 toddler and 1 infant. I made the reservation on OpenTable and it automatically offered me the Carlotta Private Room. It is out of sight of the main restaurant and is very secluded. It's a round room with old photos/paintings on the walls, some of the original furniture, and antique-y decor. The first impression was not how pretty it was, but how smelly it was. It smelled musty and damp in there. I get that it's old, but you can still get it and keep it smelling fresh! Anyway, they had some lavash and butter with what I think was paprika as an 'amuse bouche'. We ordered beverages and then our main dishes (which were accompanied by fresh dinner rolls). For myself, I got the Sea Bass (Branzino) which came with mille feuille potatoes and asparagus. For my toddler (since they do not have a kid's menu) and husband (who ate the lion's share of the meal), we got the 14 oz aged NY strip steak and twice-baked potato. The other adults said their food was "meh". My fish was overcooked and absolutely tasteless. I was so unbelievably disappointed. I have NEVER had to add salt to any fish dish made in a restaurant... this was a first. I had to add salt AND pepper, and still it left a lot to be desired. The mille feuille had been deep fried, such that instead of being a delicate masterpiece, it became a brick of deep-fried potato! I was not a fan. My husband was also underwhelmed with his steak. He said it tasted like they just cooked a naked steak - absolutely no seasoning. What really ground my gears is the number of times the restaurant staff mentioned "fine dining". Now I've been fortunate enough to enjoy fine dining in several different states, and the lack of seasoning, flavor and sanitation (the smell) in this place should be reason enough to not use that phrase to define themselves. I was so disappointed by the experience. When your lavash and dinner rolls taste better than any of your entrees, you've got some serious problems. And to think the average plate sells for about $45... the least you can do is give people good food!

Yelp
We had to check out this historic restaurant while we were in Las Cruces. We sat at the long bar that was sort of in a room all its own. Seemed much like a sultry, smoky bar from the 40s or 50s, although it definitely wasn't smoky. Just a movie set vibe. The waiter was friendly and helpful. We had the recommended prickly pear margaritas which were huge and tasty but not too strong. We snacked on the calamari which was delicious! At 5pm we were able to order from the main restaurant menu. We were looking forward to the red chili escargot, but it didn't really live up to the hype or our expectations. Just okay. It was a fun experience and we'll definitely go back to explore more of the menu.

Raouf B.

Yelp
Sat down as a party of 4. The atmosphere was very nice. Bread and butter was good. Ordered crab stuffed mushrooms and Calamari. The stuffed mushrooms were delicious. The calamari was overcooked. Ordered fish and steaks for dinner. The Branzino fish tasted very fishy and came with a very small amount of truffle fries. The food arrived Luke warm and the server did not provide steak knives beforehand. Had to find someone to provide steak knives. One person did not like the smokey filet minion steak taste . The lobster tail was very good. Another person did not like the wagyu steak. The sirloin and scallops was very good. The wine selection was great and reasonably priced. The creme brûlée was delicious. Cost of dinner was too high for the overall mediocre food quality and service.

Yelp
Always stellar!!!! Double Eagle has a bit of everything- great drinks, an amazing menu, superb history, and fun stories of the supernatural. Make sure to have a cocktail in the bar area- the Double Eagle Margarita is award winning as it should be! The history of the bar area is fascinating- ask the bartender and they'll tell you a tale. We learn something new every visit. Make reservations and you can be sat in one of several rooms- the haunted Carlotta room, the Gadsden Purchase room, or the Maximillian room. Each room has its own special draw with spooky tales or significant historical events like the signing of the Gadsden purchase. Fun!! Upon ordering, note that their steak is exceptional in any form. I've gone with the beef tornadoes (medallions) and the Chicken Mesilla with a side of the lobster Mac and cheese- split among three of us and it was the perfect portion. We ended the evening with a slice of the Mile High Cheesecake with chocolate. Service is always great and timed perfectly! The prices are very reasonable considering this is a place of historic significance! Double Eagle is so good every single time.

Yelp
I highly recommend stopping by the bar area if you're in the area, it is beautiful. But Not sure if that is why they think they can serve a horrible drink? 2 Patron margaritas & 2 w the Mescal floater. All the drinks tasted like watered down orange juice. 4 bad drinks @ $14 each...have a beer or a glass of wine to enjoy the ambiance. Giving it 2 stars for the historical ambiance, it's not that hard to make a good drink

Yelp
First time dining here. The establishment itself is historic and beautiful -- lots to see in the different dining rooms, old pictures on the walls, and an atmosphere that feels like you're stepping back into another era. We ordered a chicken sandwich (which was good, and the sweet potato fries were delicious) and enchiladas with steak, beans, and rice. Unfortunately, the sides were disappointing -- the beans were still hard, like they needed more cooking, and the rice was both burnt and undercooked. On the positive side, our server was excellent -- very attentive, made sure we were okay throughout, and kept us updated on our order. One thing to note: they add a 3.5% "order processing fee" to the bill, which feels a bit sneaky and unnecessary, especially given the already pricey menu compared to the taste and quality. Overall, the place has charm and great service, but the food and extra charges didn't make it worth the value for us.

Yelp
Going to the Double Eagle is like stepping back into time. This elegant space with multiple chandeliers and where the Gadsden Purchase was signed seems out of place in the plaza. We were fortunate enough to get a reservation in the private Carlota Salon. A room where it is said the ghosts of two lovers still remain. We started with their award winning margaritas from the Imperial Bar. Our waitress was super attentive and the courses were well-timed. The red chile escargot was cooked well and was a nice twist on a traditional dish. Three in our group split the steak flight - 3 cuts of beef at a total of 58 ounces of meat (still way too much for three to share) The portions were cut and served table side. Some pieces were a little rare for my liking. A memorable dish was the steak complement of lobster mac & cheese. Perfectly cooked lobster in a creamy sauce with green chile.

Yelp
The food was decent at best. The service and the atmosphere are what sold this place. The history and the location are very amazing. Great place to visit and go for a fancy dinner. I recommend the crêpes for dessert.

Zachary R.

Yelp
We've finally given up. After more than a year of giving this restaurant chance after chance, every visit ends in disappointment. Free desserts and apologies no longer make up for the repeated problems, and unfortunately, when we bring out-of-state guests, it always reflects badly on us for choosing this place. Recent Visit - $150+ Bill * Charged $2.99 for each Coke refill and iced tea. * Crab-stuffed mushrooms were undercooked, mushrooms raw, topped with cheap Parmesan that burned crispy, and barely any crab--$17 wasted. * Ordered steak and lobster. Steak requested medium came out raw. The excessive mesquite wood smoke burned our eyes and overwhelmed the dining room. * Worst of all, the restrooms reeked of raw sewage. The smell drifted into the dining room, making the entire meal unbearable. Staff brushed us off when we raised it multiple times. A Few Months Ago - $168+ Bill * Ordered a $50 baseball filet, advertised at 8 ounces, but received a golf ball-sized portion. * Management dismissed our concern and told us we "didn't know our steaks well enough." Final Thought: The consistent pattern of undercooked food, misleading portions, dismissive management, and serious sanitation issues is unacceptable. This is no longer just about one bad night--it's a fundamental failure to provide quality and respect to paying customers.

Yelp
Careful what you get to go! I mean don't take the ghost home ! Had a wonderful experience a few years back at this historic Restaurant and Bar and must return soon, ambience is great and the food is good. if you get a chance, make sure to get a short history of this interesting place. Really enjoyable day trip.! in old town.

Yelp
Not cheap, but excellent fine dining, best in southern New Mexico. Best bar selection, too! Love the atmosphere, and service is usually very good.

Yelp
I went to take my parents for both their birthday and left with a horrible experience. We made a reservation ahead of time and still had a long wait upon arrival for a table. Once we got a table they had to look for menus?!??! Then once we got a food menu they had to look for a drink menu but must have forgot so we just took one from the table next to us. They had so many empty tables that were not cleaned off the entire time we were there. They didn't clean our table well enough as it was super sticky. Once we finally got our drinks it took forever to get straws. It took forever for them to take our order because the person getting our drinks wasn't actually our server. The food was over an hour late. We asked for a box and check as soon as it arrived and we were so close to walking out. They said they would speak with a manager for us and they offered us free dessert. It would be nice to speak to a manager in person and the dessert wasn't even provided. The food here is good and it's a nice looking place but this was by far the worst restaurant experience we have had. I understand things happen was just a shame that we paid a decent amount for such terrible service and food that we had to take to go. Didn't even get offered refills on our drinks. We didn't even bother trying to ask for anything additional to not try ti delay anything else even more.

Yelp
Good place on the weekends but not during the week. Meal was mediocre and expensive, duck was bland, wife's elk arrived to rare and it took so long to get it back properly cooked I had already finished so she ate alone. Margarita was good, and the service was very good. I will not be returning

James P.

Yelp
Interesting place, but food a disappointment. My filet and scallops was an undersized steak overdone with three scallops literally the size of a nickel.
google avatar

Jessica S.

Yelp
Beautiful setting with old world charm. The service is professional, courteous and friendly! We just stopped for margaritas. Best margaritas I have ever had!
google avatar

Pat L.

Yelp
Absolutely HORRENDOUS service! Asked twice for a drink and wine menu. Younger bartender asked " by the glass or bottle?" What? Asked four times for a menu. Server asked which menu? What? I have no idea. I don't know how many menus you have. I ordered the sea bass. Pretty good, but the potato cakes were overcooked and dry. This place is still in business because of the decor. It's a beautiful restaurant with the worst service and marginal food. Probably have a steak at Texas Roadhouse next time.

Yelp
Delicious upscale dining.Friendly service. Table-side flambé very good. Steaks cooked to perfection.

Yelp
Let's start with the one good thing, the ambiance. it is historic and elegant. It's really too bad they don't know how to run a restaurant, 1. Service - Three of us were at dinner celebration and decided to splurge. we weren't seated quickly and the waited. we waited some more and finally a woman came over and apologized and said she would be our server, poured water and left. A younger waiter came over and told us he would be our waiter. He took our drink order and started to leave and we told him we knew what we wanted for dinner ( we had a lot of time to decide) . 20 minutes later our drinks arrived. 2. Margaritas. weak, over iced and over priced. 3. Food. I ordered atenderloin with scallops, another asked for only scallops and the third chicken Marsala. the scallops that arrived were tiny. , three in number and the very worst I have ever had. same for just the scallops diner and the chicken, well, it wasn't what he ordered. We were starving so we ate while third waited. Wait staff never checked on us to see if our dinner was good - we would figure out that they must spend a lot of time apologizing. Eventually , the chicken dish arrived and was shared with my fellow scallop dinner sufferer. 4. the bill. They come and apologize. they never asked us anything, but insisted we complete customer comment cards to express our disappointment. no manager visit, no discount, total unprofessional $66 waste of money for me. AVOID THIS PLACE!

Yelp
We are from Chicago, and our friend took us out to dinner at Double Eagle restaurant in old town Mesilla. We each ordered our food and all was going to plan until I started to pull apart my salmon fillet which was raw! After advising the server of the raw fish, she brought it to the kitchen, she came back apologized and asked if I wanted anything else, like an appetizer, etc. I replied with a no, and was under the impression that she would bring cooked fish. It never came. After questioning her about it, she mentioned, that she misunderstood and thought I did not want anything else ... BUT THAT SHE HAD SPOKEN TO THE MANAGER "Julia" AND THAT we will not be charged for my meal. We did request to speak to the manager and nothing further came from that. One of the other individuals in my party ordered a Mexican food dish and the rice was dry and clumpy. I recommend not visiting this restaurant due to lack of hospitality, apparent inability to cook food properly, and lack of common sense and common comp practices. I will not return.

Yelp
Traveled from out of town to visit family in El Paso. Had always wanted to visit the famous Double Eagle. Made a reservation online and reviewed the menu, excited to take my gma to commemorate her 98th birthday. Made the hour drive to get to La Mesilla. Staff were all GREAT. Extremely friendly (until exiting but I'll get to that). We were promptly seated and were given menus for Peppers. I didn't make reservations for 'Peppers' I had made them for the Double Eagle, or so I thought. I ask about that and was told Double Eagle is only after 5pm. NOWHERE on the site is that specified. Well we had already made the trip so settled in. I was actually about to walk out and head to La Posta but the server showed up. Food was a mediocre version of something resembling vaguely Mexican food. Tacos had no seasoning, rice and beans were likewise flavorless, tasted days old and reheated. 'Panko' Chile Relleno was a heavily battered green chile that looked more like a carnival hot dog. Now I will say the actual restaurant is beautiful. For the 'experience' I suggest having a drink at the bar and taking a look around. La Posta is right by and has true New Mexico style food...and you get sopaipillas. Again staff were all friendly our waiter was great. When we were leaving though, hostess at the front couldn't be bothered to say 'Thank You'. Would I come back after 5 to experience the 'Double Eagle', if the food is anything like Peppers...not a chance.

Yelp
I have given the double eagle chance after chance to get it together but every single time they burn the chicken sandwich. Seriously at least 5 times I have gone the sandwich is burned. And then to have waitress insult my intellect by telling me the oil they use makes the fry on the chicken look darker... like do I look stupid? Absolutely insulting. I have fried chicken many times at home and I can tell you the problem is the oil is way too hot, and because the oil is way too hot to fry on the chicken gets cooked really fast, but the chicken in the middle is still raw so they keep having to cook it to the point that it becomes burnt in order to make sure the chicken inside is not raw. The simple solution is to turn the heat down on the oil. I have always truly enjoyed going to the double eagle. It's just so unfortunate to see it go downhill they keep changing things on the menu. It's completely inconsistent. Sometimes you order things and they are done correctly. Sometimes they are doing different stuff like putting sauces on that they never have before sometimes they're giving you fries that they've never had before and then I go back to the regular ones. It's always completely inconsistent, and I'm generally disappointed to see such a good restaurant go down hill.

Yelp
Do yourself a favor and stop here for a Bloody Mary. I'm not a big fan of them but I think these are the best. Ask for the green Chile vodka and make it extra spicy. It's absolutely amazing. One is enough. Cheers!

Yelp
historic well appointed surroundings greet its guests. all items on menu we chose were delicious, perfectly prepared and steaks, hollondaise sauce, poached eggs and everything else. service was professional and polite. guest certainly feel welcome.

Yelp
Went here for our anniversary. This place is a must. Just go and see for yourself. Appetizer, entree, dessert was amazing! Service was quality too, very friendly and attentive. Our most favorite part was the ambiance. This place is full of history and also romantic :)

Yelp
Just arrived in MN and had our first meal here at the Peppers section of the restaurant, which was New Mexican cuisine. Food and drinks was good and the atmosphere great. Would recommend.

Yelp
Went with a few friends for drinks and dinner. The bartender, who said that she was originally from Wisconsin, was very friendly and took care of all of us very quickly. She even remembered everybody's order when it was time for a second round. After the second round, we asked to be seated for dinner. We had a small room with a large table all to ourselves. It took quite a while to get water and a couple of bottles of wine. They came back two or three times to tell us they were out of the bottles we selected. Most of us ordered the Cesar salad to start with. The server prepared everybody's salad all at once in a large bowl, table side. It was very tasty with just enough anchovy; everyone liked it. A couple of us ordered the 50th anniversary steak and lobster special; they liked it. One ordered the duck and compared it favorably to duck he had in France. I ordered the 14 oz ribeye with a baked potato and a side of sautéed mushrooms. The steak was tender and delicious and the baked potato was a competent baked potato, though served not quite hot enough. The mushrooms were not to my liking; it tasted sweet, the consistency syrupy. I prefer (and make at home) mushrooms in a (dry) red wine reduction with shallots and butter...no sweet stuff. I want to give 3.5 stars, but I rounded up mostly because of the bartender.

Yelp
This was my first time here. The building is simply breathtaking. I cannot say enough about it other than to say you must tour it yourself. The red chile posole was perfectly seasoned. That alone gets 5 stars! The service was good, menu just right and prices better than I expected. I will be back with more family next time.

Yelp
I took a drive today to check out this place. It's an older restaurant so you get a different feel. Service was great. The food was also very good. I had the brunch burger special that came with an egg and I added a green chile. The burger was like a home made burger as the meat was very thick. The restaurant itself has some older furniture and the architecture of the building. I highly recommend this restaurant.

Yelp
Had dinner sitting at the bar at Double Eagle on a business trip to Las Cruses. Bartender was busy and I was just a guy at the end of the bar so didn't get a lot of attention. Ordered a steak and bake potato and a salad. Salad was slow to come out and the food was right behind it before I could get through 1/2 the salad. Food was warm, not hot including the potato. Potato was old like it had been sitting around for a while and the steak was OK but nothing memorable. The reason for a 1 star review is someone added an additional $10 to my bill. My bill was $56 and a $10 tip (20%) but my credit card was charged $76 instead of $66. Maybe they thought I wouldn't notice but its a company card and my charges have to match my receipt. I've called 2 times over 3 days and was told that Chelsea in accounting would look into it but she was busy each time I called. I leave a message with with the person who answers the phone but I get no return call. I'll dispute the charge with the credit card company but beware of extra charges. It might be a regular thing there.

Lisa B.

Yelp
Service was great . Food was just ok. Beans and rice were horrible. But the ambience makes up for it .

Yelp
The draw of Double Eagle is the decor, imported and reinstalled from The Drake hotel, it's lovely and otherworldly from the perspective of Southern New Mexico. The service is the disappointment. The greeter strained to smile and in unenthusiastic monotone reluctantly agreed to let us sit in the lounge area next to bar for our lunch. Our party of 4 was then given one drink menu so we asked for three more. Then we were delivered one food menu so we asked again for three more. Each ask seemed to frustrate the waitress. Finally the waitress memorized our order, she didnt write it down. Someone in my party commented that they were always impressed when people could memorize orders like that. A different server delivered the food, the order was entirely mixed up for example she server didnt know which of the four burgers was the medium rare one. The burgers that should have been dry or had onion rings were the opposite and served with fries. We gave the server a couple of corrections limiting them to just what was necessary. The waitress returned to recite our order to us aloud, she was challenging us, telling us that she was right. This was over the top and really wrecked the meal, a defiant person who wants to have a fight? Really!?

Yelp
Great place to spend part of your Sunday afternoon. A laid back and relaxed atmosphere.

Yelp
We have been here multiple times and we have never been disappointed. We went here for dinner again and it was absolutely delicious. Best steak in Las Cruces by far! And the rest of the meal was equally as wonderful. Our server (shout out to Beija) was fantastic as well: very timely, personable, and cooked us a delicious banana foster for desert. The atmosphere was perfect for our anniversary celebration.

Yelp
Oh man... where do I even begin. This is our second visit here. The last visit was fantastic. This time the service was inferior. The only reason the star isn't 1 is that the food was great! There seems to be a private event, but I think it was almost solely on the server. I used to be a server when I was younger, and I wasn't too good at it, but man, I would've done a much better job. We waited for a good 30 minutes until a server greeted us. We had to flag down the back waiter even to see our server for the first time. We usually get bread with the order, but he didn't bring them out. He didn't take our menus away. He didn't come back to take my friend's drink order. He messed up our checks. I glanced around the room, and the other servers were quick and did everything right with their table (as far as I could see). Other parties in his area were visibly upset because of how long it took to bring them a menu. We sat down probably around 7:30 and didn't get greeted until 8 or so; the food probably came out around 9. I felt bad leaving a less than 15% tip, but the service was terrible. I would've talked to a manager, but because of the private event, it was busy, and we just left. I honestly don't know if we'd feel up for another visit anytime soon.

Yelp
1. Horrible food, steak dry, no flavor. 2. Took three hours for food to arrive. 3. They should have a sign that says no kids allowed!!!! We were asked to leave with the kids, only had two and they were well behaved. We were baffled by the request. I have never been in an establishment where people with kids have been asked to leave. I could understand if the kids were yelling, running around and such but this was not the case. Not a kid friendly establishment!

Yelp
Traveled from Florida to visit family. Decided to take family to eat here. Steaks were not cooked per our request of med-rare (they came out tough and med-well). To top it off the steaks came out cold??? They also ran out of about 6-7 types of beers. I would definitely try another steakhouse in town (Outback cooks them better) and would not recommend this one at all. Spend your money elsewhere. Oh did I mention they charge an additional 3% service charge on top of the tip!!!

Yelp
We used to live in Las Cruces and loved the Double Eagle. We returned to Las Cruces for the first time in 5 years to explore retirement options. The first place we went to was the Double Eagle. I ordered my usual Grey Goose martini. My husband ordered a drink and 3 appetizers. When we got the bill, the bartender had added a fourth appetizer that we did not order. She did remove it from our bill after I returned to the restaurant and pointed it out to her. What I can't get over is that they charged $22 for my martini! I've ordered the same cocktail in our current city of Phoenix, and in San Diego and other major cities, and I've NEVER paid so much for a martini. The bartenders were very snotty about this. We had left a good tip when we paid the first time but not after I had to return. We will not be back or recommend the restaurant to visitors.

Yelp
TERRIFIC ambiance, amazing bar. Historic venue on plaza, great selection of cocktails. Friendly vibe, bartender was on it. Highly recommend a visit.

Yelp
Amazing ambience, the food is great, they have the absolute best chile rellenos i've ever had! The house margaritas are the best margaritas, and Nicole is our favorite bartender.

Yelp
Just had dinner and it was amazing. The restaurant was very calm and not a lot of people but it was Saturday around 6 and most of the stores in Mesilla were closed. The wait staff was great! Essence was super friendly and helpful but also kept us entertained with a few ghost stories. We ordered the duck, the salmon and the chicken mesilla (there were 3 of us) and they were all delicious and we ended with the lemon cheesecake which was incredible! We asked if we could visit other areas and the gentlemen serving our water (Christian I believe) was kind enough to give us a tour and tell us the history of the restaurant, we didn't expect our evening would turn out to be an unforgettable and memorable experience. We definitely will be back!

Yelp
Hit this place up with the in-laws. Now, normally I can handle the in-laws all day long but this place.... No beuno! I was greeted and offered a seat in their "lounging area" which is where all of your grandparents furniture ends up. This wasn't your up kept vintage furniture, this was furniture that had been nursed along past the point of death. You sit in the numerous bar stools, wing back and Victorian style couches and are immediately reminded of their age. Getting to the food and service. Our server was nice and polite yet wasn't very attentive after taking our orders. We ordered as variety off the menu- a party of 5. The food was marginal at best. I would put your best buddy that can actually cook against these guys and wager large amount of money on your buddy. Even if he has been drinking all day. Fish was atrocious. Absolutely should not smell like fish when served. Medium rare steaks haven't been sitting for 20 minutes and, well, well done. Potatoes, no matter how they were prepared were over cooked. Cold scallops. I may run out of space to list all of they wonderful deficiencies. The positives? The margaritas are pretty good. If you are fine with " hey, what's the happy hour all day? A dollar off!!" And still being charged full tilt, this is your place. If you are okay with dropping $700 on a party of 5 ( fair warning: booze included) and being charged 10% for using your credit card, look. I further! They want your business all day and happily serve you garbage. 1/10 won't be back unless I am drunk and want to have a margarita. Even in a college age drunken stupor, my tiny little brain would blink in faint neon glow of "REMEMBER THE FLEECING!" And I would find another place.

Yelp
Brought in an out of towner & was embarrassed at how awful the food was...Plato Mexicano...she was not impressed. Chile Arellano was thick "tempura" crusted, deep fried corn dog style. Enchilada was a little cheese wrap...the place is lovely but you can't eat the decor...friend order a nonalcoholic Marguerite which was just sugary lemonade...never going back..better place on the next block

Yelp
The best restaurant ever in the middle of New Mexico. I stop here every time I travel through. How can a restaurant this good not be in New York or California. My Hands off

Yelp
Stopped in while visiting El Paso for the holidays. This restaurant and especially the bar are absolutely beautiful. Enjoyed a couple margaritas, stuffed jalapeños and a cheese board and was very pleased. Highly recommend stopping in, the interior is beautiful and has a historic vibe!

Yelp
Had the same dinner as last time. My steak was either fatty or tough and chewy, couldn't eat it, didn't eat it. My mashed potatoes had no flavor whatsoever, a little salt and butter would've been nice. My salad was so underdressed, I think the chopped tomatoes had dressing but the rest of it was plain greens. The green beans and chocolate cake saved the meal. How does a restaurant totally mess up a meal that was excellent the first time? So disappointing.

Yelp
One of the most incredible restaurants I've ever been to in my life. An incredible experience in every way

Yelp
Food is average. Service is okay. Ambiance is super nice. Problems are over charges even when menu prices are listed (was told the prices changed and they hadn't updated menu), charged full price on Happy Hour All Day (no discount reflected on bill) and without any notice there is an up charge for using a credit card (rude and why?). Food again is just okay. We were there for lunch and I orders the Green Chile Chicken Alfredo (sauce was very thin and watery). My husband ordered the Stuffed Pablano which he said was okay but not filling. He is dairy and gluten free so this was literally the only thing the waiter recommended. He could not get the sides that normally come with the meal because they were not safe for him. We had margaritas and they were okay (not great). We like a traditional margarita with out added sugar and they do not have that as an option.
