Compton's - Review - East Village - New York - The Infatuation

"Compton’s, a sandwich shop that was born in Astoria, has a third location in the East Village. They do a good chopped cheese, and also have pinball machines in their stores for a little doom scrolling-free entertainment while you wait for your sandwich. We haven’t been here yet, but want you to know this spot exists." - Will Hartman

((4.25 stars)) Compton's is a sandwich shop whether you're a cold sand guy, hot sandwich dude, or just a vegetarian. this place has you covered. the interior feels new and modern with touches of the old school nostalgia. clean and well-maintained. there's limited seating and a couple of benches out front...and there's a couple of stand-up-style video games to occupy your time while waiting for your food. the menu is fairly large for a sandwich shop made up of all-day breakfast sandwiches, wraps, signatures, "f your diet (big calorie sands)" hot sandwiches, cold sandwiches, and some sides. ordered a "New Yorker" -- essentially a high quality bacon-egg-and-cheese made up of two eggs over medium, bacon (or sausage or ham), American cheese, & red pepper aioli on a Kaiser roll. the bread speaks for itself...it's a freshly baked Kaiser roll and you taste that in each and every bite...it really lifts this sandwich up. the bacon is cooked expertly crispy with some give, and melty American cheese...couldn't really taste the red pepper aioli, but it was there. the "New Yorker" from first bite to last is a satisfying breakfast sandwich. definitely, it is a worthwhile order. other sandwiches that i eyed were the "fish and chips hero' as well as the "deviled egg club." also ordered the macaroni salad, separately as a side. it was fine. nothing to write home about. wouldn't order it again, tbh. you will wait a little extra time to get the sandwiches here, but it shows in the end product bc they are not rushing things and are cooking things from scratch as this isn't fast food. my order was packed up neatly to go. the service here is kinda unmemorable. not much energy, etc. expected this place to be upbeat and jovial. but nothing to complain about or anything like that. if sandwiches are your thing, stop here. if they are not, the problem might be you! lol

We had lunch at Compton's after an intense day. We were welcomed by a young professional, Julian Flores, who immediately made us feel at ease and recommended some excellent sandwiches; his courtesy, professionalism, and kindness really impressed us. The food was excellent, the portions generous, and the service impeccable. In particular, we tried the house must-haves: the Vodka Chicken Parm and the Chicken Burrata Club, with tater tots as sides. Definitely worth a second visit. Great value for money. Greetings from Italy 🇮🇹

Staff is great - very helpful and attentive. Unfortunately, my sandwich was lacking flavor. Flavors were all muted and bland, expected more! Couldn’t taste pesto at all in the Turkey Pesto.

Was very impressed with the quality of the sandwich and fair prices. Bread was perfect and all of the ingredients were fresh and solid amount too. I had The Tuscany, which was perfect. Looking forward to coming back to try many other sandwiches!!

I live in the neighborhood and decided to come into Compton's for a early dinner and got the turkey crunch. The sandwich was amazing but what really is going to have me coming back is the service I received from Mike!! He was super helpful and sweet! Being a lower east native it's people like him that keep our neighborhood what it's supposed to be!

When I first saw Compton going up, I didn’t expect much, but I finally checked it out, and it’s legit. Great vibes, free games, solid sandwich lineup, and the person at the front was super friendly and helpful. Definitely coming back, East Village people, this one’s worth a stop. They got me more than right!!

Yelp
Saw Compton's promoting their new location here online and decided to check it out. Placed an order for pickup and it was ready within 10mins. Normally not a chopped cheese person but there was a BOGO so decided to give it a try. Sandwich overall was pretty solid and good value, but the semolina bread it came on was really the highlight of it - super great texture, fresh, and tasted high quality. Excited to come back and try some of the other sandwiches!

Yelp
Food here is 5 stars, no question. Outstanding menu options are paired with unique flavors, especially with the Gold Rush sandwich. By the second half of the sandwich, I would take a look at the next bite, eager to find out which ingredient was causing the flavor explosion in my mouth. An unusual wait time for a non busy time of day threw a wrench into quick takeout plans. Be prepared for loud music as well, as in much louder than you would expect, although I could have been affected from being in there too long.

Yelp
Absolutely delicious sandwiches. The burrata BLT is my all-time favorite! Their sides are also worth mentioning - mozzarella sticks, onion rings, and corn nuggets are all heavenly. Staff is friendly and knowledgeable and the shop is always clean with good music playing (and fun games available if there's a wait). Highly recommend!

Yelp
I've always wanted to try this place when living in Astoria almost 5 years ago. Finally was able to now that they have a location in East Village via Uber Eats. Sandwiches are great, definitely recommend them any time of the day.

Yelp
Very little filling...tried the tuna it was all lettuce waste if $ and you can't add extra fillings (just like Joey Roses all bread)

Yelp
Average chicken parm hero. Better off at joe and pats right up the street. $17 bogus.

Yelp
The bread, the bread, the bread. Enjoyed an OUTSTANDING turkey sandwich from Compton's today. It's actually my second sandwich as it was a two-for-one deal and I had the other last night (and yes the second one held up). I know this is a growing chain but the sandwich did not feel chain-y. It was the kind of sandwich you'd find at a great family owned shop along the shore. The bread was real with a crisp exterior and a good chew...not the white bread stuff you get at those places I avoid. The turkey was plentiful (no need to ask for extra meat), plentiful and of high quality. The veggies and dressing were fresh and delicious. I'm grateful we now have a 'made with love' sandwich place in the EV and I look forward to trying their many offerings both cold and hot.

Yelp
The New Yorker sandwich was really good. They're quick to service with plenty of space to wait. I sat outside and was surprised how much flavor and texture was packed in.

Yelp
Ordered the Spencer Steak sandwich recommended by the cashier...very tasty, will definitely be coming back soon, the cashier was very knowledgeable and helpful with a great customer service experience...
