"When you think of quintessential New York desserts, you think black and white cookies. A sweet confection my family and I would pick up from the Jewish deli for a treat while growing up, upon moving to New York, I realized that there really is no city that makes black and whites better. This one at Zabar’s is worth the trek to the Upper West Side, and if I ever find myself in the general area, you can bet that I’m making a stop on my way home. Buttery, cakey, and fluffy, Zabar’s gets all the important things right: a good base cookie, sweet (but not too sweet) icing, and a pretty good price, too. "Zabar's is definitely a neighborhood if not NYC institution. It's a foodie destination housing some of the best smoked fish, prepared foods, coffee's and more. On any given day, rub shoulders with UWS locals buying gourmet breads, bagels, cheeses and prepared foods. Some of my favorite things to get there are the Ethiopian Yirgacheffe coffee by the pound and their delicious homemade soups. For an added bonus, check out the upstairs area for a massive selection of kitchen goods at great prices! This is definitely worth a trip to the UWS on it's own." - Ken Pao
