What a pleasant surprise! They are not only open Sunday afternoon, it's a lively place. It's like being in the real world. The beer is 3.2, but there is beer. There is no doubt that there is a lot of support from the local Latino culture, and it shows. It is Mexican and Salvadorian food. I don't know jack about Salvadorian food. I do know the cheese pupussa was really good. As good as the various pupussas were, there's several Mexican dishes I really want to try. The chips are good, but the salsa is fantastic. The flavors are complex, and there's enough spice to know this place isn't dumbed down for the local masses. I read some raving about the rice and beans. The rice is that slightly red instant rice. The refried beans pretty standard. That said, the flavor is better than the local casual chains.
The prices on the food are incredibly inexpensive. It tastes really good, and the servers we saw were all very nice. When a restaurant exceeds all expectations for what they advertise, it's a five star review.
There's nothing sketchy about this part of town, unless you believe a little Spanish advertising for the businesses is sketchy. This place just became out go to Mexican restaurant for anything but a quick lunch.
