The Best Sushi in Nashville | Eater Nashville

"A self-proclaimed “American Izakaya,” Punk Wok’s quickly become a Sylvan Park favorite with its laid-back, come-as-you-are vibe and irreverent maki menu (case in point: the Nate Gifford Is Punk as F**k roll with tempura shrimp, Gifford’s bacon, pineapple, and seared jalapeño slivers). The cocktails here, along with the tightly curated Japanese whisky list, play nicely with the inventive rolls. Space is limited at this Sylvan Supply spot (meaning reservations are probably a good idea), but walk-ins are welcome at the bar." - Kellie Walton

Asian Eatery Punk Wok Joins Sylvan Supply’s Growing Roster This Summer | Eater Nashville

"Opening at 4101 Charlotte Avenue within West Nashville’s Sylvan Supply development, Punk Wok is a casual Asian small-plates spot from longtime Sylvan Park resident and owner/operator Clay Greenberg, who ran Germantown’s now-closed Silo and formerly led the kitchens at Virago and Lime. Executive chef Grant Smith (formerly of Silo and Green Pheasant) plans to focus on Japanese and Chinese dishes; early menu ideas include jia li jiao (curry chicken and potato puffs), char siu pork belly with white kimchi, biang biang noodles with hot chili oil and fried peanuts, and yaki-style tsukune (Japanese chicken meatballs), and raw fish will likely be in the mix—Greenberg says, "I want to be the first chef to bring sushi to my neighborhood." Front-of-house manager Emilee Frazier is part of the project, the bar plans to pour Yamato and other Japanese whisky selections, Craftlogic Construction’s Seth Yazdian is handling the buildout, and renderings preview sleek wood seating with pops of red and black." - Tierney Plumb

Punk Wok Opens in Sylvan Park With Pimento Cheese-Filled Crab Rangoon and Comforting Noodle Bowls | Eater Nashville

Opening Tuesday, December 14 at Sylvan Supply in Sylvan Park (4101 Charlotte Ave suite G-20), Punk Wok is Clay Greenberg’s exciting next project and a much-needed silver lining after his last restaurant, Silo, was destroyed in the March 2020 tornado that barreled through Germantown. Izakaya-influenced and offering plenty of meat-filled skewers and Japanese whisky, the casual menu blends Japanese and Chinese dishes: cold starters include Japanese potato salad, a poke bowl, and cucumber and seaweed salads; hot items feature a katsu sando, a spicy Thai lobster shot, karaage, and crab rangoon filled with pimento cheese; wok-fired, carnivore-pleasing dishes include Bangkok chicken, beef chow mein, and char siu pork fried rice; vegetarians are served with ginger and scallion tofu and kimchi fried rice, and the owner says they’ll offer sushi. - Delia Jo Ramsey

Do yourself a favor and enjoy a meal at this delightful restaurant! We ordered the house dumplings for an appetizer along with 3 sushi rolls (the Californication, Blink 182, and the Chef's Special roll) as well as some Salmon Belly and Yellowtail nigiri ... Every single bite we had was a magical masterpiece... We also enjoyed a MaiTai and the White Riot mixed drinks and they were delicious... Everything was spectacular! 10/10 we recommend!

We were in the mood for a laid-back Thursday night dinner—no plans, no reservations—so after wrapping up our grocery run, we decided sushi sounded just right and headed over here. We arrived around 7 pm, and the place was buzzing. Luckily, there were a couple of seats open at the bar, so we grabbed them right away. We’ve been here before and already knew the sushi and sashimi were solid, but this visit somehow managed to top the last. Drinks & Food Highlights: Kirin Ichiban Draft A classic Japanese lager—light, smooth, and easy to drink. It didn’t quite hit the crisp note I was hoping for, but still a pretty solid pour that paired well with our food. Hot Tandoori Wings These came out piping hot with an aroma that hit you before the plate hit the table. Super flavorful, nicely spiced with just the right amount of heat, and incredibly juicy inside. But the real surprise was the dipping sauce—light, herby, and refreshing. It added a bright contrast to the bold wings. Absolute genius pairing. Special Sushi Combo A gorgeous roll featuring 8 pieces of salmon and tuna wrapped with avocado, seaweed, carrots, scallions, and cucumber, all lightly finished with soy sauce. The flavors were balanced and vibrant—so good, we didn’t even think about reaching for extra soy sauce or wasabi. Every bite was a win. All in all, this visit blew our last one out of the water. Everything we ordered was on point, and if you’re into sushi or wings (or both!), this place is a no-brainer. The menu has tons more we’re excited to come back and try—this definitely won’t be our last visit.

Google
Just moved from NYC and was nervous we wouldn’t find good sushi here. Then came Punk Wok! We went for happy hour and all of our food was delicious. We can’t wait to go back and try more!

Google
Such a keeper!! The food was wonderful. Everything was fresh and delicious. The atmosphere was fun with throwback 90’s music playing the night I went. Service was friendly and attentive. Did I mention how tasty the food was…

Google
The food is really good. This menu has so much food from sushi, poke, etc. You'll definitely find something you like. It's not the biggest resturant so get there early or reserve a seat.

Google
Hey so!!! Do yourself an ABSOLUTE favor and NEVER come here. They refused my group of 11+ with a reservation 21+ NO ALCOHOL because our ids “looked” fake. Not because they scanned them and they were fake, but because they looked fake. THEN on top of that not being enough they charged a $275 cancellation fee for a dinner we never even cancelled. Our reservation was for 8:30pm and they purposefully did not serve us because they closed with in the hour and a half and didn’t feel like it. Enjoy your food at some other place this isn’t the one.

Google
We had a taste for sushi, decided on Punk Wok, and it was a very pleasant surprise! We called to see how busy they were (very), and they saved us a seat at the sushi bar. Service was great - they took food allergies (wheat) very seriously, which was very much appreciated. They have a gluten free eel sauce on some of the rolls and it was fantastic. We got 4 rolls, some nigiri, and a couple of cocktails and everything was excellent.

Google
Had a grand time visiting. Had this place on the to-do list for months, finally had a chance to visit. Reserved a table via the app and that process was flawless. We chose inside seating but there was tables outside available as well. The table was a bit close to the wall and I hit my chopsticks on it a few times before moving it out slightly. Lighting was also a little awkward for photos but otherwise pleasant. Came in during happy hour and got a bunch of food for a lot less than expected. We did ordering a little at a time and our server Dani was very patient with us. Overall, great experience. Appetizers: Mushu Egg Rolls - on point. Captured the mushu pork essence perfectly but way less messy to eat. Was not sure if the garnish was for anything, did not add to the plate. Crab Rangoon - tasty take with pimento cheese. Sauce was excellent. Kimchi - good and fresh Maki: good flavor combinations only downside was nori was consistently chewy, like it's sat out and absorbed too much moisture. Most were true to what you'd expect on flavor from description. Californication - 👍 Nate Gifford is punk af - 👍👍 no sauce needed. The bacon and scorched jalapeno were fantastic elements. We got the hamachi and spicy tuna at the same time and that was a happy accident. They go really well together. Good texture and fish to rice ratio. I tend to judge sushi places on their Unagi and Salmon so I had to try them here. Unagi Nigiri - over roasted. The piece I had was burnt and tougher than expected 👎🏼 Sashimi: Salmon - good, not the cut style I like but was tasty. Salmon Belly - same on the cut but was more enjoyable because of the expectation of its buttery nature. Dessert: Ginger Crème brûlée - very tasty, once you get past the overly burnt bits. The caramelization on the edges were a good addition to flavor and texture. The custard was creamy and had a wonderful flavor. I contemplated licking the bowl but was really too full to make that effort. Definitively recommend. It was a great experience with good food and great service.

Yelp
Cute little spot. Nice courtyard if you need to wait. Tried to make a reservation for 10, but they needed a credit card, which I totally understand, but I didn't feel like leaving my cc info, so I chanced it on a Friday night and we got lucky as it's a small place. Food was great. The Peruvian roll was amazing and unlike anything I've ever had before. My group wasn't too ambitious, sticking to the Mongolian beef and fried rice. All of which were good and generous portions. We all took leftovers home. Friendly service. Only negative was parking, which while being abundant you still have to register with a company to get two hours free, which entails giving a credit card. Why? there's a huge lot! Nonetheless this won't deter me from visiting again.

Yelp
I didn't get any sushi so I can't comment. I got the House Special Cumin Lamb and it was delicious. Seemed clean, music was just fine. I had a hard time finding it at first as I went to the front and had to go up the stairs and back down to the backside. Service was fine (I was the only one there early and they only stopped once for a drink refill...had to ask for the check as I was waiting). Seemed like cost was a little high on some items I know are cheaper elsewhere. I didn't get it but $12 for 4 dumplings? Even if they are handmade I didn't get it because of the cost. I am sure the rent there isn't cheap so its reflected in the food prices.

Yelp
If you like sushi or don't, this place is for you. They have a wide variety of options. Great shares and awesome fulfilling meals. Service was quick and friendly. Food is served immediately as it's prepared, so it's hot and fresh. Happy hour is from 3-6 daily, currently, and they have a lot of options available for happy hour. Music is very modern, goes with the "punk" vibe. It's perfect for the space. Not too loud or too quiet. Highly recommend!

Yelp
To be honest, this is a very average Asian fusion with an incredibly high price point for ambiance. My friend and I were a walk in for dinner, got seated right away. Service was nice and attentive. But the food... the bulgogi fries were probably the best thing we got, but even then, this is not bulgogi. This is like ground beef seasoned with bulgogi sauce and poured over fries. The Thai fried rice has okay flavor but wish it had the Thai kick to it. The cumin lamb noodles were sad. Almost no sauce and no spice, the noodles were dry and limp. Ended up taking it home and adding a bunch of sauce and chili oil to it to revive it. Not a place I'll come back to but I guess and experience nonetheless. At least the kirin was good with the fries!

Yelp
A frozen Lean Cuisine meal would have tasted better than the Mongolian Beef served here. Would rather of consumed empty calories than eating the Potstickers. Crab Rangoon tasted like last year's Super Bowl buff chic dip crammed in a wonton wrapper. The dipping sauce was delicious though!

Yelp
Great place for large groups. Try the russian roulette game with friends. Wont disappoint and someone would get the lucky roll with wasabi!

Yelp
I got in here for a late lunch and ordered one of the specials of the day. Wish I had known about sushi happy hour, as I would have definitely taken advantage. I put it on my notepad for a revisit during sushi happy hour. I have both in this review. Nice little spot in Sylvan Supply. Medium sized bar with quite a few tables around the side and in the back. I ordered to go to take into Bearded Iris (Black Dynasty was not serving yet). While waiting, the sushi chef pulled out a big slab of fresh tuna to prep. After we talked sushi for a bit, the chef handed me some of the fresh tuna to try. Top knotch. The food did not disappoint that day and I would have given a 4 star rating. Yay! Fast forward a few weeks and sushi happy hour. This is no sushi train or supermarket, but the fish did not bowl me over. I would say more in the 2-3 star rating. I will give the pricing during sushi happy hour a bump (half price on all but three items) and the service was still very good, but the sushi was more on the marginal side that day. I would still say you should try it out and see, as I might just have hit a happy hour faux pas, but I was looking at my plate (picture) saying "did I really order that much?" rather than "so happy I came back". So I am stuck in average territory. Overal, not bad for a landlocked city. If I could repeat the first experience, even more power. I will redo the review if I find I just hit a bad day. Not that average is bad, but people often regard a 3-star review as bad. It's not. Just more OK than great or my favorite. So, the big question is "will I return?" As one who always likes to give a fair shake to restaurants, I will definitely consider a return visit. I really love the atmosphere, presentation of the food, et al, but I will order less up front and add on rather than pile in.

Yelp
Was joined by my Yelper friend for a happy hour at Punk Wok and it lived up to my high expectations. During happy hour, sushi is half off, so we indulged in 2 rolls. My favorite was the Peruvian roll, topped with a shrimp ceviche and garlic drizzle. It was a tantalizing mix of textures and flavors and unlike other sushi rolls I've tried before. The garlic drizzle stirred up a craving in me for Peruvian chicken... perhaps more to come on that note. Of course, as a fermented vegetable fan girl, I suggested we try the pickled vegetables. The cucumber pickles were the best, but the kimchi could stand on its own. Happy hour gets crowded from 6-7, but when we were seated at 5 there was ample bar seating. The atmosphere was lively without being too loud or crowded and the staff was friendly. I'm definitely adding Punk Wok to my list of favorite happy hour specials!

Yelp
Love this place for lunch, we go nearly every other week. Some favorites- Korean waffle fries (sounds odd but completely addictive) Lemongrass chicken lunch special Pineapple chicken Chicken fried rice This is a small place that definitely feels like a basement but that's the vibe. Some servers are kinder than others but mostly everyone is really nice. Recommend for sure!

Matthew J.

Yelp
The ambiance was nice. The host made a rude comment, but the waitress was polite and attentive. The food was average and expensive (not worth the price at all). I would eat here again if someone else is paying; otherwise, I'll just go to my normal sushi spot and get slightly better food at half the price. 36 hours later and I'm blowing up my toilet... not sure if it's related, but I think it is, because I have a consistent diet and it normally doesn't sound like someone is shooting up my bathroom.

Lizzie T.

Yelp
We've been here a few times and tried different dishes every time - all are amazing! Our favorites have been the potstickers, the fried rice (ask to add chili crunch), and the edamame. Service is always reliable and the vibes are great indoor or outdoor for dining.

Yelp
Happy hour of all happy hours! Will be back here time and time again for the happy hour from 3-6pm every single day. I made reservations in advance for a table of 4 on a Friday and glad I did because we wouldn't have made it in otherwise. We started with 3 rolls- Blink 182,Matt's tats, and californiction all at 1/2 off. Blink 182na was the favorite. Then moved to small plates: Edamame - incredible. Potstickers- served with 4 and tasty but not a must have Beef short rib and pork shumai- the taste is wonderful but for what we thought we were getting it was sort of a let down. Very very small. Still left a little hungry so I would definitely recommend getting some of the larger plates for more volume. Overall great experience and will be back for happy hour. Good ambiance and located right inside of sylvan supply.
google avatar

Yelp
Very good and friendly, quick service. It is a small place that fills up quickly, so reservations are recommended (a good sign). The only reason a 4 and not a 5 is it's a bit pricey, but it's definitely worth a visit, especially for the sushi.

Yelp
A delightful & fun Asian-influenced menu with a really chill & laid back vibe. I've come here a couple of times for a late & leisurely lunch on afternoons I've had off and had a super relaxed and tasty meal both times. Lots of seating at the bar, which is ideal if you are flying solo for your meal like I was and still want quick & efficient service. For lunch, there's a small standard menu of items (all reasonably priced from $13-19) and a chef's bento special which rotates a new chef's choice item every day with a few staple sides. My favorite thing both visits has been any wok-fried chicken stir fry the chef does. The marinades have been perfection and I love having something that is actually made to size for a lunch portion. The sichuan cold noodles (featuring their house made egg noodles with just a kick of spice) are another must order for me. Punk wok really nails interesting textures in their dishes, whether it be the chewy cold of the sichuan noodles or the crunch in the crispy Thai rice on the lemongrass chicken. Sushi is a bit pricier than your standard joint, but everything uses really high quality ingredients here (no imitation crab in sight) and happy hour (3-6 pm) features half priced sushi! Delightful service both times by two hipster ladies tending the bar; this will easily be a new lunch / happy hour favorite in a complex I already love.

Yelp
Punk Wok is a cute spot in Sylvan Supply right across from Bearded Iris. They have indoor and outdoor seating in the cute little courtyard. The food here is amazing. The Sichuan street noodles is a must though! Everything was good but this was hands down my favorite thing on the menu that we tried. Also had the pork belly, fried cauliflower, and the blink182na sushi roll. Full bar serving cocktails, wine, and beer. I just went easy and tried the house red which was very nice. Make a reservation as it's busy and a small spot but lots of parking.

Yelp
Great food with a great ambiance. I visited this restaurant with a friend of mine this past weekend. We did not have a reservation but they were able to accommodate us, however I would highly recommend making one before going. The food was delicious as well as drinks! We went during happy hour so the price was good as well. Our server was attentive and nice. I would highly recommend this spot to anyone looking for sushi in the Nashville area.

Yelp
First time here and I enjoyed every second of happy hour after a long work day. They were accommodating of my shellfish allergy and I really appreciated having options here. The spicy tuna was fresh and delicious and one of the best rolls I've had. The General Tso's cauli was incredibly flavorful and had a great texture. The sauce was out of this world. - General Tso's cauliflower - Spicy tuna roll - Californication (crab, avo, jalapeno | top: salmon, spicy mayo, eel sauce, sesame seeds) - Blink 182na (spicy tuna, cuke | top: yellowtail, avo, negi, togarashi, ponzu)

Yelp
I might be the biggest Clay Greenberg fan in Nashville. The Punk Wok owner was previously the head chef at Silo, a popular Germantown restaurant that became an unfortunate victim of the 2020 tornado. For those fortunate enough to have dined at Silo, you'll know that Greenberg made perhaps the best mac 'n' cheese in the city and one of the most perfect Nashville Hot Chicken dishes you'll ever eat. Thank goodness he's back in the restaurant business with three-month-old Punk Wok, another fabulous addition to the burgeoning restaurant scene in Sylvan Park. You'll find this informal eatery and bar on the lowest level of the Sylvan Supply development that opened in 2020, a converted steel mill that follows a local trend to convert Nashville's unused factories into gleaming office space, retail, and food. Reminiscent of the basement sushi joints I've visited in Japan, Punk Wok is a cozy space offering various Asian delights with Chinese, Korean, and Japanese inspiration. From lobster wontons and waffle fries with bulgogi to pork belly and the ever-popular Tonkatsu, there is a lot to explore on this menu! My personal exploration would include chicken and sushi. Karaage is a Japanese technique that produces a bit of an oxymoron, deep-fried foods that are simultaneously light, not heavy. The result as manifested at Punk Wok yields small, tender chicken pieces in a beautifully thin batter fried in a lighter oil, the antithesis of southern fried chicken. Spritz some lemon on it and dip the chicken in the accompanying lemon kewpie, a Japanese lemon garlic mayo, and your taste buds will be elated! I finished the meal with six pieces of unagi nigiri, fresh eel served atop sushi rice. This is definitely among the better nigiri experiences I've had in Nashville. The one thing Punk Wok needs to improve is customer service. When you enter a restaurant (we've operated a few in our family), you want to be greeted and welcomed immediately. That didn't happen. I was not greeted by anyone and had to ask a sushi chef where to sit. Eight employees standing around made direct eye contact with me, with only one other patron in the restaurant, but I still had to wait 20 minutes before being addressed and finally coaxing a menu out of a server. That simply shouldn't ever happen, especially when they aren't busy. My water wasn't refilled either. After adding the nigiri to my tab, it took another 20 minutes to make those six pieces in super slow motion. Service should be a lot faster with an employee-to-customer ratio of 9-to-1 by the time I ordered the sushi. I didn't feel welcomed here at all and quite frankly felt ignored. If you feel that customers are an imposition between 2:00 and 5:00 p.m., just shut the restaurant down and reopen for dinner. But the food sure was darn good. Hopefully service will improve.

Yelp
Wow. I didn't have any expectations coming in but left satisfied. The restaurant is super cozy with very limited seating. Make a reservation online well in advance! The food is excellent. Let's run through them: Sichuan street noodles - this is the star of the night. These cold noodles are amazing. They have a little sesame flavor while having a little spicy kick on the back end. The dumpling sauce it is in is delicious and you will want to literally drink that sauce! Japanese style potato salad - this is just regular potato salad. Literally normal potato salad. I personally would pass on this next time. General tso's cauliflower - yum. These small florets are breaded and fried really well. The sauce they give to dip it in is delicious. So tasty and refreshing. Jai li jiao- this was just a puff pastry with potato and chicken in it. The inside tastes exactly like normal chicken noodle soup. Another item I'd personally pass on next time. Korean waffle fries - the only thing Korean about this is the little kimchi on top. There is also ground beef on top which is just regular beef. The fries themselves are super fresh and crunchy. Personally, I would get it again just because it's a good volume for the price. Karaage - fried chicken in bite size pieces is served with an excellent aioli. The chicken itself doesn't look too appetizing, but it tastes a lot better than it looks. Pork belly - I enjoyed the quantity of pork belly given (about 7 pieces). It was super flavorful and was pretty tender. Definitely would get again. The whole meal was not bad - about $80 total!

Yelp
Stopped by punk wok and loved it! We referred by our hotel attendant. Very good food, very good drinks and very chill atmosphere. Our server Dani was great! Brussel sprouts really good! My fave drink was the sabai. The dumplings really good as well as the Peruvian roll! Will return to punk wok.

Yelp
Their happy hour is the greatest thing since sliced bread. My husband and I shared four rolls - all phenomenal and truly special. From the quality of the ingredients to the unique twists for each roll, we loved it all. The staff was friendly and quick. Plus, as an added bonus, Punk Wok is by a ton of other stores you can checkout when you leave!

Yelp
Our reservation was for 6pm and the sushi entrees weren't delivered to our table until 7:20. 3 of our party of 5 had their food delivered by 6:40 which then got cold while we waited for our whole party to be served. Our checks had been paid before the sushi arrived, which then had to be wolfed down by that point. We were already on a tight timetable as had tickets to a show at the Ryman and missed the first 20 minutes of set due to the restaurant's many delays. We could see our server pleading with the sushi chef to get the orders out and he kept arguing back & wildly gesturing with his hands. I don't know what situation could have possibly required an hour to make 10 sushi rolls. It set a rushed and bad tone for the remainder of the evening. What a disappointment.

Yelp
Food and drinks were yummy and ambiance was nice. I called ahead about having celiac and asked for gluten free sushi, our server brought out rolls w gluten sauce anyway and did not comp when I asked again for a gluten free roll. This put me in a pretty uncomfortable position as I was not paying for the dinner. He did offer to take away the rolls (we were sharing) and replace them but everyone was ready to eat and I didn't want to put the dinner on hold on my behalf. After this experience, I would not recommend to ppl with allergies as it was kinda disrespectful and unnecessarily uncomfortable. As a server myself, I definitely would've just taken the L and comped for my mistake but the vibe was right and the music was good so I'd like to give them another shot. Maybe it was just an off night! We'll be back to try again sometime.

Yelp
Everything was delicious! The pork belly, crab Rangoon, and the chicken fried rice (not picture) were my favorites. We have been back here multiple times with out of town guests who all seem to love it here, too!

Yelp
I have nothing but great things to say about this restaurant. I've been coming here consistently since they opened and I've never tasted anything I didn't love. They have some of the best and freshest sushi I've had in Nashville. All of their rolls are incredibly flavorful and full of fish and their appetizers and cooked food are all outstanding. Their happy hour is daily and simply can't be beat. If you're looking for good quality sushi, delicious craft drinks, and amazing Asian dishes, look no further!! Would recommend this restaurant to everyone and it's one of my favorites in Nashville!!

Yelp
We stumbled into Punk Wok on a Sunday afternoon. And it was such a delightful experience. We quickly found that they were running great happy hour specials, including 1/2 off rolls. We initially came for a light bite but were so happy with the food and service. We ended up ordering about 6-7 rolls and paying only around $50. We had also ordered a pair of nigiri and a couple of beers. Everything was amazing. The atmosphere was great, and the names of the sushi was very fitting for the punk theme. I highly recommend this place, especially if you can get here and take advantage of their happy hour deals.

Yelp
Not only phenomenal sushi rolls and melt in your mouth sashimi, but such a good vibe inside. So glad they are open for lunch and it looks like they have an amazing happy hour I can't wait to check out sooner rather than later! Our table shared a blue plate bento box, the chefs choice of entree that day was curried short ribs and was delicious. We also shared the Szechuan street noodles, a solid dish that I should have added a little more spice, the blink182na roll and some sashimi. Of course we couldn't resist adding the Russian roulette option for the roll and it made sharing plates even more fun watching people brace themselves each bite and then to see who ended up "winning"! My "bite of the night" that I will definitely try again would be the fatty salmon sashimi for sure. Adding a saketini and the welcoming attentive service makes this a destination I will be returning to soon!

Just delicious food. Plates come out quickly and whenever ready. The service is very helpful and kind. Loved the nigiri, potstickers, chazu pork, and chicken. So many great things.

Yelp
This is a great little place to call in for lunch, for brunch, or to go a little further, dinner. First, it's scrupulously clean and the service is good. We were a little put off by the grubby appearance on one of the sushi chefs...but then again, it is called Punk Wok...so, enough said. It is not Japanese and it is a perception of mine and bugger all to do with the owner...even though I prefer miso soup as a side, it is not something they sell. It is a good place to eat. It's a little expensive, but worth every cent. Go there, you won't be disappointed.

Yelp
Fresh and tasty! I've had fantastic sushi in the past so can't give it 5 stars but close! Favorite so far in Nashville.

Yelp
Not worth the high price. It's unfortunate. Service was great, but I do think they should have not charged for a roll that was not good.

Yelp
I want to keep the magic of this place to myself so bad so there is never a need for a reservation, but I cannot gatekeep and must allow other to also enjoy this special sushi gem! We have tried like 6+ sushi places now in Nashville and this place has the best quality fresh fish and great combinations in their rolls. The rolls and the nigri were all amazing! Wonderful service with incredible food. We have not tried the apps or other dishes yet, but the sushi is the best in the city...you know it's good when you don't even need a sauce! Happy hour from 3-6pm which was 50% of their rolls, plus the nigri and sashimi choices. They also had a couple dollars off their wine and beer for happy hour. Free parking in the lot and clean bathrooms. We will be back, probably weekly. Great prices and high quality sushi. Oh not to mention they have a secret fun thing called "the Russian roulette" so you'll need to ask your server about that one!

Yelp
This place is a gem and I am so happy we found it. Ambience is perfect. Food is outstanding. Service was impeccable. The sushi chef was fun to watch. It's nice to be in a place where everyone seemed to enjoy their job. Our bartender Erin took fabulous care of us and made me the most delicious custom martini. We will be back time and time again.

Yelp
Punk wok has been on my radar since it's opening and I was so excited to try it as I was home for thanksgiving break - it did not disappoint! The bulgogi fries were an absolute hit and we wiped that off pretty quickly. Four appetizers were plenty for our table of 4 so we only order the dan dan noodles and pork fried rice to finish up our meal (special shout-out to the dan dan noodles, my dad loved them!). Service was super friendly and fast and there is plenty of parking around sylvan supply making this an easy choice for dinner.

Yelp
I have been wanting to try this place and placed a pick up order on the phone. I had a hard time finding the menu online and called for help. The hostess wasn't super friendly and kept telling me it was on IG. The menu was a post and not saved so I needed to scroll down further which wasn't clear. I ordered three rolls and asked her if she thought that would be enough. She replied to me, "How should I know?" I brushed it off and headed over to pick up my order. They were finishing up my order and I checked out fairly quickly. I went home and was pretty disappointed. The sushi rice is not done right so it's hard to come back from that. Spicy tuna- fresh tuna, cucumber, chili oil- not spicy and the rice wasn't right. Real Deal California- fresh jumbo lump crab, avocado- It's more like a dip consistency so I couldn't taste the crab. Then I got the chef's special which was underwhelming. There are better sushi options in town such as Sonobana. I haven't tried the other items on the menu so only reviewing the sushi and customer service experience I had which were both sub par.

Yelp
Stopped in to see if anyone in the south can do decent sushi this far inland. Was craving it so thought I would give it a chance. Food was terrible, fish was not fresh, save your money and go elsewhere. The owner/manager was also yelling at the staff, and that's never a good sign. I would rather buy grocery store rolls than support these rich kids trying to run a restaurant while they move through the world treating people unkindly. I saw they have burgers, too? Burgers and sushi? Sounds like they just want to make quick money, not provide a great dining experience to me. P.S. The decor was straight out of the bad early 90s, rustic, but trying to be Nashville, but sushi? These guys are stuck in their high school dreams and don't know what they are doing.

Yelp
Great new little spot in West Nashville. Cocktails were great... try the Saketini if you like cold sake. We split the Chef's Special Maki, which was one of the best rolls I've ever had, the pickle plate (great), the Korean kimchi fries (good), the tiger tear salad (fine but probably would not order again), the pork belly plate (one of the best simple preparations of pork belly I've ever had), and the fantastic mango rice pudding for desert. Really interesting menu and a wide variety of strong delicious flavors and textures. We will be back! Great service as well.

Yelp
If Punk Wok is any indication of what's to come on the Nashville food scene, I'm excited for the future! Located in Sylvan Park, Punk Wok shares an outdoor patio space with other Sylvan Supply businesses. There's also a large, free parking lot for patrons. Inside, seating is fairly limited and the decor is minimal. The vibe is cool, with a drinks bar, sushi bar, and dining tables. The lighting over the tables was a little harsh for an intimate dining experience, but great for taking photos if that's your thing! We had a reservation for 4 and were a little late, but the restaurant was very accommodating and we were seated immediately even though we were waiting for the rest of our party. Our waitress greeted us and explained the concept -- tapas / small plates meant to be shared -- but didn't offer too much guidance in terms of number of dishes to order and recommendations (we needed help...we wanted to order everything!) We ended up with drinks and about 9 dishes between 4 people, which felt like about the right amount. Overall, if we were to come back, we would highly recommend all of the sushi options (MAKI/NIGIRI/SASHIMI). The other items are fun, but the star here is really the fresh fish and expert sushi chef. What we ordered: - Saketini ($12): A cold sake, with notes of honeydew and pumpkin which *really* shine through. Delicious! - Holiday in the sun ($12): Even if you're not a gin fan, this is amazing! Tastes like a punch! - Thai butterfly ($12): Get a vid of this drink! The butterfly tea changes colors as you add the lemon juice (plus, it's super tasty -- not too sweet!) - Spicy tuna roll ($12): Super fresh, one of the best I've ever had. They don't use spicy mayo, but instead top the roll with chili oil. Absolutely delicious! We made this a russian roulette (+$9), meaning the chef slipped habanero paste to one of the rolls, and the person who gets that roll gets to take a kamikaze shot! Fun little way to ~spice things up~ - #2 ($15): Another spicy tuna roll, but topped with yellowtail and avocado! Maybe our favorite dish of the night. - Sichuan street noodles ($7): A divisive item among our group -- these are cold noodles served with a little sauce and chili oil. I personally didn't love them and thought they lacked flavor, but others really enjoyed! - Tiger tear salad ($15): The steak was cooked to perfection, but the greens didn't have much chili/lime vinaigrette. We poured sauce from another dish on top to give a makeshift dressing. - General tao's cauli ($7): So crisp! Not healthy at all! Amazing! - Chinese greens ($7): Really, really good. The garlic sauce was slightly sweet and absolutely scrumptious! - Red curry mussels ($13): Another table favorite! The red curry was drinkable-level good. - Korean waffle fries ($14): The ultimate drunk food - fries with queso, bulgogi, and kimchi! I probably wouldn't order again -- kind of just chili cheese fries with some kimchi -- but can see how others would love! - Cod and kumquat sashimi (MP): 5 pieces of absolute heaven from the chef! Unfortunately, we were too late to dessert (which sounded amazing!) Pro-tip: Ask for the dessert options first and the waitress can hold items for you. This ensures they don't sell out before you get to the end of your meal!

Yelp
We enjoyed the sushi happy hour. We loved the fresh crab that was used in the sushi. Crab Rangoon with pimento cheese was also very good. I wish I had room to try a fried rice since it seemed like there were many different versions to try.

Yelp
I've been so excited for this spot to open and I'm so glad it's finally here! The space is super cool and welcoming. The staff was incredibly kind and accommodating as well. They did everything they could to make sure we had a table. We tried the chef's sushi special of the day (amazing), the karaage, and the Korean waffle fries (don't skip these). Huge note to self: go way hungrier. I wanted to try so many things but only had room for a few. Can't wait to go back!

Yelp
Californication and blink-182 rolls pineapple chicken All of these were really good. Will come back here to eat for sure. Soy sauce is made in house.

Yelp
Food was ordinary.. Sushi had inconsistent sizes. Ordered two sets of maki: crab meat and avocado; spicy tuna. Crab one was pretty bland. Spicy tuna was ok but tiny. Also ordered kimchi waffle fries which were ok. Fries were a bit soft. Salmon belly sashimi was the best thing for the night. Also noticed that wasabi was runny like it was watered down. Definitely disappointed.

Yelp
This was a highly anticipated opening--and it did not disappoint. Located in the sylvan park neighborhood Punk Wok is a definite welcome addition to the ever changing and evolving Nashville food scene. The decor is minimal and mirrored (sounds conflicting but it works!). We had reservations and were seated quickly. The menu is divided in to Maki, cold and hot temperature dishes. They recommended about 4 dishes for 2 ppl. These are small plates and I can easily see two ppl splitting 5-6 dishes if you are very hungry. We ordered the salmon maki, Sichuan cold noodles, the lamb skewers and the Korean waffle fries. The salmon was fresh and tasty. The cold noodles and skewers are on the spicer side but delicious. the Korean waffle fries were a great and a nice touch of fusion. Service was quick. After we had paid for our meal, I saw that there was dessert on other tables....but we were not made aware of this option. It would've been nice to at least take a look at the sweet options.

Yelp
Understaffed - food was decent but just as good at MARU OR I LOVE SUSHI cool little place but people weren't appreciative of my large group - there was a $20 cake cutting charge - it took all but 5 minutes to cut cake at table - just ok - not that I wouldn't go back but wouldn't rush

Yelp
Disappointed that I won't be returning to Punk Wok. I have come several times during their happy hour for half of sushi. I order the same thing today and suddenly that roll is no longer a part of the special. I was not told before ordering. When I asked about the bill they lied and said it has never been half off when I have gotten it half off 3x. I was told "We'll since I've worked here it's always been this way" They also would not make any adjustments for their mistake of not informing us of changes. This mistake added $27 to my bill and I had to pay it. Also during my visit a family with a young child came in. The family left before ordering. After they left we could hear the staff make rude remarks about the family. Such as "that's what we don't have high chairs and it's not because we're cheap." Staff was unreasonably rude to only have 5 people dining.

Yelp
The hot food was really good, however we had to wait 45 minutes for any of our Sushi orders which was after we'd eaten everything else! I ordered California Roll which was mediocre at best. Asked for some small plates so we could serve a little Birthday cake I brought in, was told there was a $25 cake fee! They don't even offer desserts so this was very offensive after the long wait. Just another new snooty restaurant in my town with no manners. Then to make matters worse, had to pay for parking due to the long wait to get our food! Overpriced for what you get!
