Orlando’s 38 Best Restaurants - Eater Miami

"The expansion of this now-legendary German restaurant in Sanford includes a beautiful bar fashioned from centuries’ old wood from Bavaria and a second-story biergarten – Sanford’s first rooftop bar. But it’s the food, beer, and unmatched gemütlichkeit that’s been drawing folks to Theo Hollerbach’s restaurant since 2001. The menu highlights traditional dishes from Munich and fare from southern Germany (wursts, pretzels, and the like), though schnitzels are the specialty here. And beer." - Faiyaz Kara

I’d been wanting to try this place for a while, and I can’t believe it took me so long! The restaurant is spacious with plenty of seating. The long communal tables mean that smaller parties may share space with others when it’s busy, which adds to the lively atmosphere. There was a German band playing when we went, and it really set the tone for a fun, authentic experience. Many of the staff were dressed in traditional German attire, which added an extra touch of charm and made it feel like a true Bavarian celebration. It does get a little loud—especially if you’re seated toward the back—but it’s all part of the experience. They also offer both indoor and covered outdoor seating options. Our server, Coral, was outstanding—friendly, attentive, and very knowledgeable. The menus look like German newspapers, which is a fun touch, though the prices can be a bit tricky to find at first. Once we ordered, everything came out fresh, hot, and much quicker than expected given how busy they were. Portions were generous, and every dish we tried was excellent. Overall, great food, great service, and a wonderful atmosphere—I’ll definitely be back!

The German food was pretty good, the drinks were very good. The atmosphere was fun and they had a live band. They had plenty of German beers and specialty cocktails. Portions for large, each split a meal. There were four of us and we only bought four meals. With drinks and food. The price was less $125. Would recommend going.

My moms German and she LOVES this place. We drive 2 hours just to go here once in a while, the food is so authentic and wonderful and the people are super sweet. Our waitress the last 2 times was Harley who is SO NICE!!!! One of the best waitresses ever! My mom always loves talking to Doris (her fellow German lady) too. Great place, wonderful wonderful wonderful :)

I see why people go. It is a good time. They interact with the guest and keep you singing and drinking. But just not a fan of the food. Could just be me. The charcuterie board that they had with a pretzel and cheese that was good and my dinner was a flatbread which wasn't bad but I tried the chicken cutlet that they call a schnitzel I didn't find any taste to it. And the platter with a variety of sausage was cool. So I guess appetizers are good 👍 but people stay going and the line to get in be out the door. So they liking something in there. Im glad I tried it. The waitress was really cool and very attentive. We did have a party of 10 and she did very good.

Google
Our experience at the restaurant was quite a rollercoaster. The food ranged from excellent to very disappointing. The schnitzel was fantastic, and the fries were great, but the vegetarian dishes were almost inedible, and the vegetables were more “alive” than enjoyable. We understand that maintaining the inventory and running a restaurant is a lot of work, but the outdoor tables seemed to have seen their best days, which added to the overall negative impression. The service was charming to watch, but the staff’s knowledge about the dishes was very limited. When we asked for authentic German dishes, the recommendations we received had little to do with the originals in Germany. At some point, we noticed the wall full of awards and accolades, which raised our expectations—but unfortunately, the reality of the food and service did not match. It was disappointing, and we left feeling that the experience didn’t live up to what the restaurant promises.

Google
The restaurant was really cool 3 stories high. As far as authenticity after living in Germany for many years I'm not sure if they meet that taste point. The goulash wasn't at all Bayern type, it was more mushy stew. In Garmish it's much different as well! The cucumber salat missed the mark for tang and i simply didn't like the warm potato salat as it was too much tang. Sadly, not a German experience but i will add that Radler 1 pint is highly recommended

Google
1st time here. Great covered outside eating area. Make sure u try the Eisbein with fresh veggies, you won't regret it. The seasonal pumpkin bread pudding was good but definitely recommend ordering it to share.

Google
It was my first time there. It was a Sunday, and there was a live performance on stage, so the atmosphere was great. The Sauerbraten was a bit too sour and salty for my taste. The beef was very tender and easy to eat. My husband ordered the Jager Schnitzel. I also had a bite, and it was very tender, with a not too heavy pork flavor and not too oily. Next time I visit, I'll definitely try the Schnitzel. We ordered the Applewood and classic sausages, and both were delicious.

Yelp
Wonderful food. Wonderful service. The only way to have a better experience would be to fly to Germany! We drove an hour to get here, and it was sooooo worth it. Great schnitzel. Delicious Rueben sandwich. Super cold Kolsch to wash it down. Looking for an excuse to make the trip back to Sanford.

Yelp
Dinner on a beautiful Sunday evening in downtown Sanford was ok. Not exceptional. Not amazing. Nothing special or noteworthy - frankly, a little disappointing. Reading all the glowing reviews had us eagerly anticipating a wonderful meal. Reviews that unfortunately didn't come close to matching our dinner. We had wurst and schnitzel. The sausage was much better than the dry, thin, tasteless piece of veal we were served. Perhaps the schnitzel had been pounded too thin and then cooked a little too well done. Where was the juiciness? The tenderness? The umami mouthfeel? The delicious flavor? The service was attentive. The music was enjoyable. Our meal wasn't cheap. Overall, our evening was just ok. Certainly nowhere near the high standard previous reviews led us to believe we should expect.

Yelp
After almost five years living in Sanford, I finally checked Sanford's staple restaurant. What a great place! Great food, live music and atmosphere. I have not had German food besides the German pavilion at EPCOT, so I was excited to try a local spot. When we got the menu, it was a little confusing. It is in the form of a newspaper. There's lots of information and it could be overwhelming. So if you have questions about the menu don't be afraid to ask. We sat indoors where we could enjoy the music up close. The tables are set up picnic-style (long tables), so you might end up sharing with other parties and it makes it feel like a true German beer hall experience. This was a great spot, and the food was delicious. I can see why people love it so much!

Yelp
I am still confused about a few things (and one of them is how to pronounce any of the meals here), but overall I still give it five stars. Long tables, entertainment, loud, pretty much what you expect by the description. The Riesenbreze - a Gigantic Bavarian pretzel served with sweet mustard and Obazda, a savory spread made with cream cheese, onions, sweet paprika, beer and Gemütlichkeit - was amazing. One of the better pretzels I have had anywhere. The beer comes in various sizes -- from normal to, to be shared sizes. For me the best part of the experience was the Eisbein - This skinless, bone-in pork shank is one of the most flavorful and tender cuts of meat you'll ever taste! Our delicious pan-seared Eisbein is served with Sauerkraut and Heaven & Earth potatoes. Yes, the meat is really that good. However, I was never a fan of sauerkraut, and the Heaven and Earth potatoes -- yes, I managed to not like those either. Just give me the meat next time! Service was there whenever needed. They helped match a first-timer's questions in the right direction for an outstanding meal. Now, another question: what is that quiet place off the restrooms and also accessible from the outside? Maybe you can come here and skip the entertainment? They do have places for very large groups, too which could be something to consider if you are in search for one.

Yelp
The food was fantastic! It was Oktoberfest so we got Das Boot. The atmosphere and people were amazing and we had a great time!
google avatar

Jensine C.

Yelp
Always delicious and always super friendly staff here. Came for a birthday and had to try Das Boot (minimum of 5 people) and enjoyed some traditional German cuisine. I usually order the Jaeger schnitzel since I love mushroom and onion gravy . My husband loves the nurnberger sausage as his go to order. Saturday they do not take reservations so arrive early, otherwise definitely make reservations.

Yelp
I hate to say this, but we were a bit disappointed with Hollerbach recently. My husband was so looking forward to rouladen night. They only have it four times a year right now. The meat was so overcooked. My chicken was pretty dry also. The potato pancakes were really good, but I think those would be hard to mess up. We will definitely be back for Oktoberfest, but probably not for dinner again. The apple strudel was really good.
google avatar

Yelp
The food is always phenomenal. I recommend one of the schnitzels - you can choose your meat type and a variety of toppings. The alpiner schnitzel is my favorite. The meals come with recommended sides but they will let you swap them out very easily. The gurkensalat and sauerkraut are the best! The desserts are good portions and delicious - I prefer the Black Forest cake. There is a wide selection of authentic beer, including lemon and grapefruit radlers made in-house. The ambience is overwhelming when it is busy - it gets very loud and the seating is terrible because you can get stuck where you are with communal tables back-to-back. Service is good but it does get excessively slow when the restaurant is busy, like they are just slightly understaffed at that point. I still recommend it, especially if you can get in and out before 5pm.

Yelp
Good service, food, and location. Glad we tried the pretzel and Jagersnitzel. Will return again.

Yelp
Had dinner here on a recent trip to Orlando. This German restaurant is about 40 min northeast in Sanford Fl. It has been in business over 20 years. Very large with communal seating. Also small outside dining area. The food and service were excellent. They serve authentic German food. Plenty of good German beer to go with it. The large soft pretzel and German potato pancakes were the best apps. They serve all the favorites such as several types of Snitzel, Saurbraten, sausages, Goulash, and pork shank. Each entree comes with 2 sides such as red cabbage, spatzel, fries, salad and sauerkraut. There are several desserts such as apple strudel and German chocolate cake. This place is located in the town and parking is on the street. They do offer call ahead seating.

Yelp
We went on a Thursday afternoon at 3pm the restaurant was almost empty. The perfect timing for us. Had a Greek salad and Flammkuchen vom Garten a German flatbread which we had in Strasburg. It was very good.

Yelp
Hollerbach's has been on my to visit list for a long time. I had heard great things about the restaurant from the phenomenal German food to the large on draft German beer options. My wife and I happened to be in the area so we decided to check it out. OMG! Hollerbach's lived up to the hype. I ordered a Kolsh on draft and it was nicely crisp and refreshing. For food we split a Riesenbreze, Potato Pancakes, and Jager Schnitzel. The Riesenbreze came out first. This giant pretzel was warm, salty, soft on the inside and lightly crisp on the outside. It paired perfectly with a flavorful cream cheese topped with paprika for dipping. The Potato Pancakes were soft and savory with a crisp outside and paired with creamy sour cream and sweet apple sauce. Finally, the Jager Schnitzel was phenomenal! Tender pork was topped with a crisp breading and a rich earthy mushroom and onion sauce. The side of cabbage was nicely juicy and tangy and the spatzel was soft and savory. Overall, Hollerbach's is a must visit and I hope to be back soon.

Yelp
It's been so long since we've been to downtown Sanford. It won't be so long the next time. It was a lovely day for lunch with some longtime friends at Hollerbach's. Our server was very sweet and efficient, even though she was covering a large area. To be honest, the hostess was rather rude, but we didn't let that bother us. It's a fun atmosphere with inside and outdoor seating. Our friends wanted gluten-free, which is why we picked this place and they were very accommodating. One of our friends has a Pennsylvania Dutch family background and he said it was just like grandma made!

Yelp
Wunderbar ! Being that I'm half German, I'm so picky about my German restaurant choices and Hollerbachs is the 5 stars! I love the food, the bier and when they have live entertainment. Service is always wonderful here and the servers engage with the table and share their stories and insights which we love. Ambiance is perfection and it reminds me so much of the restaurants back home in Germany, especially the roof top ! They have 2 stores as well where you can find clothing and groceries and baked goods. It's perfection and we've been coming here for over 10 years .
google avatar

Yelp
The atmosphere in this restaurant is so lively and fun! The staff is amazing and friendly and explained all the rules of the drinking games clearly. I really liked the flavor for the Schnitzel Champignon Art and it was so delicious! I would definitely opt for the veal upcharge. The Spätzle mit Soße (egg noodles) had a bit of a grainy texture that I didn't personally enjoy. The Heaven and Earth mashed potatoes had an interesting flavor from the apples and bacon! The Riesenbreze (giant Bavarian pretzel) was also so soft and beautiful, especially paired with the side dipping sauces. There's just a little bit too much course salt on the top for my liking, but nothing a little brushing off couldn't fix. The German Chocolate cake was incredible! I love how thick the coconut layers are and that it encases the whole slice. It was moist, sweet, and the perfect end to a fantastic dinner!

Yelp
Updating my review from six years ago. I loved it then. I still love it now. We came here one evening for a nice dinner with family. We've always loved the location, as it is right smack dab in the middle of the very stroll-able downtown Sanford. I always check out the local art co-op and the used book store when I'm within one mile of downtown Sanford. I love it. Nestled right in the middle of the little empire that Hollerbach's is building, is the flagship restaurant. You can't miss it. The patio is huge and stunning and fun-looking. The inside feel like you're in some sort of German wood cabin. Very warm and inviting, with various German knickknacks all over the walls. Giant windows outlooking onto the street, rows and rows of communal bench-style seating that forces you to sit next to strangers, and the big stage at the front of the restaurant for live music really set off the aesthetic for this place. One of the best in Orlando. Not kidding. As for service, I'm sure they have to staff as minimally as possible. Budget cuts and the state of the economy and all. But our poor server was run absolutely ragged with the amount of tables he was serving that night. It was a Saturday night, probably the busiest night of the week for them, but still, I hope someone called out and this wasn't their standard staffing model. In the end, though, we never went without refills for long, and the food still came out, and while it wasn't right, our server made it right the moment we asked him. Bravo to this guy. He earned his tip that night, that's for sure. As for the food. I cannot say enough how good it was. It's not Michelin star butter poached snapper or anything, but what they attempt to do, they achieve at a six star level of execution. The finest German food I've ever had. We started off with the Riesenbreze (Gigantic Bavarian pretzel served with sweet mustard and Obazda, a savory spread made with cream cheese, onions, sweet paprika, beer and Gemütlichkeit!). Just amazing. This giant thing had it all. The crispy exterior of a pretzel, the chewy inside, just the right amount of large salt sprinkled on top. And then the dips. The classic mustard that everyone looks to, and a very interesting spread that was very creamy and papriky, beery spread that I ate all up and licked the plate. Very good. My main course was the Jäger Schnitzel (A rich Hunter's pan sauce of brown gravy, wine, sautéed mushrooms and onions - with Spätzle mit Jäger gravy and Sweet Red Cabbage). This thing was massive, pounded flat, and fried to a crisp perfection. So perfect that even the thin meat inside wasn't even dry. Lovely. Even if it was dry, the deep, umami brown sauce would have taken care of that. Very nice pairing, and a very good pairing with the spätzle, those yummy little egg noodles. I loved this dish. It's in the running for what might be my last meal on earth if I got to choose. I also got to sample the Alpiner Schnitzel (Topped with Emmenthaler Swiss cheese and smoked ham with Heaven & Earth Potatoes and Gasthaus Salat). This was very nice as well. Same, lovely meat cutlet, but covered with a very potent smoked ham and a very Swissy Swiss cheese. No sauce, but none necessary. Served along with the best mashed potatoes I've ever had in my life. Looking back, I've said a lot of nice things about Hollerbach's, and I meant every single one of them. This five star review kind of makes me want to look back and make other five star reviews of mine down to four stars. This place really shined, and I can't wait to come back.

Yelp
We dined at Hollerbach's for my friend's birthday, and he had two things on his mind: Das Boot and schnitzel. We went on a Sunday evening -- it wasn't crowded, but I'd definitely recommend making a reservation because this place usually gets packed. It's the perfect spot for both big groups and small gatherings. The live music added so much energy to the atmosphere, and the food was absolutely delicious! Huge shout out to our server, Jennifer, for taking care of us all evening and for making us feel like family while we dined there. For appetizers, I highly recommend the Riesenbreze Aufschnitt -- it's the perfect shareable starter. For your main course, you can't go wrong with the schnitzel, and don't even think about skipping dessert -- the Bee Sting Cake is heavenly. I ordered the Sauerbraten and added mushrooms to the gravy (pro tip!). The beef was a little on the dry side, but the rich gravy and mushrooms made up for it. Next time (and the time after that), I'll be going straight for the schnitzel. All in all, I love this lively gem in Sanford -- Hollerbach's never disappoints!

Yelp
Pros: Ambiance is incredible. It's right in the heart of the very walkable downtown Sanford. Striking patio outdoors. And an amazing communal seating arrangement indoors. Really inviting. Really great. Food was very high quality. Lots of fun, sharable appetizers. Great textures and sauces and flavors in the entrees, as well. Really the high point of the restaurant is the food. Cons: No real cons. The service was the only detriment. The guy was doing his best, but it was a Full house. Perhaps the staffing ratio is off, or maybe someone called out. Either way, no harm no foul. Tips: If you are unfamiliar with German food, you have to try a schnitzel. The different combinations of meats and sauces and sides means there is a schnitzel for everyone. No matter what you get, you HAVE to get a side of the Heaven & Earth Potatoes. They are the best mashed potatoes I have ever eaten. Trust me.

Yelp
Fun, loud, crowded place with good food. We loved the menu on the newspaper and the authentic eats. It's a crazy beer hall atmosphere with good service given how many people they serve. Seating is family style and very tight. Hard for conversations with friends, but very celebratory. I liked the traditional bratwurst best. Portions are good. Beer was okay. Prices are interesting as the sides are on the cheaper side cost wise but are $6 each for any extras. $100 plus tip for 3.

Yelp
Family owned, authentic German restaurant situated in downtown Sanford. Our waitress was wonderful, made food selection suggestions and even told us the history of restaurant. The food arrived timely and tasted fresh. We were a party of 8 people total, as suggestion if you are coming with a small group, be prepared to sit with other parties. Most tables are extremely large (town hall styled). Place does get loud and there is live entertainment (check the schedule). Nonetheless would definitely return!

Yelp
This reminded me of the Amana colonies in Iowa. Authentic German food. The staff was great and provided great service. The food hit home and was all so good. We went on a Tuesday and I ended up playing Bingo for a $5 donation to the charity that night. I will be back!

Yelp
After visiting Germany this summer, I was intrigued if the food at Hollerbach would compare. To my tourist ass, it's pretty authentic compared to what I remember :P Really appreciate the concerted effort to maintain traditional German flavors and decor. Despite the restaurant being full, my partner and I walked in on a weekday and were seated at the bar with no wait. We seemed to be surrounded by regulars who chatted up the staff with familiarity. The atmosphere feels casual and inviting, from their humor-infused newspaper menu to the highlights reel rolling on their TV. SCHNITZEL SANDWICH (chicken): Comes with either salad or fries. Ever-so-lightly breaded with just enough seasoning to complement the chicken. Veg were fresh & the pretzel bun was perfectly sweet and salty. NOTE: At the time of visiting (Jan 2025), they were woefully understaffed and took almost an hour to get out our orders. We overheard the staff mentioning they haven't taken breaks or had coworkers call out... Felt really bad for them and wouldn't knock the restaurant for having this issue! But just a heads up that your order might take a while as they're dealing with all that.

Yelp
If you're looking for a culinary trip to Germany without leaving Sanford, Hollerbach's is das best! We visited at open on a Saturday and quickly realized just how popular this place is. It was packed by the time we left! The star of the show: the potato pancakes. This is a do not miss. They are so good that they don't even need sour cream or applesauce. The pork schnitzel was everything it should be--perfectly golden and delicious with lemon juice. Everything screamed "CLASSIC" in the best way. I could not stop thinking about how my late grandmother would have loved this restaurant. The vibe here is gemütlic; cozy and fun with a dash of lederhosen flair. My only regret is not bringing a bigger appetite or smuggling out an extra potato pancake in my bag. 5/5, Hollerbach's. Worth a drive from Orlando!

Yelp
Live music on a Sunday. We drive by it often, but this particular weekend Downtown Sanford also had food trucks and vendors out. We decided to walk around and part take in some of the shenanigans. A party of 3 for us, there was absolutely no wait. It was a little colder that day, we were asked if we would like indoor seating or outdoor. We said indoor, my uncle probably wouldn't have enjoyed outdoor seating. LOL! Seated right away, the waiter came over and got our drink orders. It's our first time in the restaurant. Sat near the stage, so it was a little hard to have a conversation and hear each other. But that's okay, we were going for the experience and German food! The waiter suggested a few items and we ordered. Food didn't come out hot, it came out warm, which was fine. All 3 of us enjoyed our food and definitely can cross this off our list. May be back again if we're in the mood for German. Parking is tight. It is downtown. Be careful where you park to not get cited or towed.

Yelp
We came here for my wife's birthday along with some other family. The place was not too busy on a Thursday afternoon so it was a good time to go. My kids loved that the kids meal came with gummies and goldfish. They also danced to the live music playing. The restaurant has several screens around the dining area so no matter where you are seated you can see the musicians. The schnitzel was good but the fried Bologna was excellent i really enjoyed the german potato salad as well. We split a order of the peach bread pudding it was excellent honestly the best bread pudding I've ever had. Than had a very nice cider to was it all down. A great place for my wife's birthday.

Yelp
It is always a pleasure dining at Hollerbach's. Their main dining room was full with a waiting list, so the host recommended that we dine in their adjacent room, "The Lodge" with no waiting. Service was fantastic and prompt. Our food was delicious, as always. Their Schnitzel is amazing, as well as their Eisbein and Wurst Platters. Their selection of beers and wines is vast. Everything is always fantastic, which is why my family and I love making the drive to dine here and visit Downtown Sanford.

Yelp
Hollerbach's had been on our "must-try" list for a while now. Every time we walked by for years, it was packed! After a recent trip to Germany where I loved the food, we decided to give it a try. We made a reservation for 6pm for 4 people, arrived early, and were seated right away. To our surprise (probably on the website somewhere and we missed it) we were seated at a table with other people. Luckily, both parties were smaller so we had a chair in between on both sides. Just beware of is if you're planning to visit and do not like sitting arm and arm with strangers. Everything had great charm. The menus were like newspapers and at 7pm live music started. Some of the workers were dressed in German attire but not as much as I expected. Now let's talk food. For an appetizer, we ordered the potato cakes. They were served cold and I've never had them like that. Paired nicely with the applesauce but wish they had been warm. For our meals, we had a variety which you can see pictured below. Everyone enjoyed their meals but agreed that my pork was the tastiest. When it came time for dessert, we ordered 2 slides of the Black Forest cake. Our mistake, but we had no idea it had cherries and it was disgusting! Overall, the food was about a 6.5/10. It's definitely better in Germany but nice to have a local restaurant like this here in Sanford.

Yelp
This restaurant has been on my husband's list of restaurants to try for some time now!We finally decided to make the drive while staying in Orlando. It was our first time to this delicious German restaurant and it did not disappoint! If you are looking for authentic German food, look no further! This restaurant is located in downtown Sanford. You have to park on the street. When we arrived we found a spot very easily, but I could see it being a hassle to park. They have outside dining as well as inside. When you arrive you will notice that some of the staff are dressed in German attire which is interesting. I've never been to Germany but the inside looks like what I'd expect to be authentic German decor. For appetizers we had German potato pancakes and a large soft pretzel. Both were delicious. For dinner I had Sauerbraten which was served with spatzle and sweet red cabbage. I also had a pint of Pilsner to go with my delicious German food. The service was EXCELLENT! While we were there we saw a birthday celebration who shared a Das Boot which looked fun. DAS BOOT HAUS RULES There must be at least four guests for the 2-liter Boot and five for the 3-liter Boot. Everyone must remain standing until Das Boot has been emptied! Das Boot should not touch the table until it's empty - it's bad luck! Do not clink other containers with Das Boot - the glass is very fragile! Keep the toe of Das Boot pointed towards Heaven when drinking. Remember, Das Boot is for celebrating and having fun. We will definitely return to this restaurant and I recommend if you are looking for authentic German food to give them a try!

Yelp
The atmosphere is lively and features traditional German decor and music. The food served is hearty and authentic, with good portions. Their beer selection offers a variety of German brews. The staff are welcoming and efficient. Hollerbach's provides a solid German dining experience. I would recommend it.

For a guy who does not eat meat, this place had something right out of Germany, Spaetzle. This is a noodle dish with veggies and delicious. They also offer incredible Root Beer along with a bunch of beers from Germany. The service was awesome as was the food. My wife had a gluten free chicken dish, which she loved. This is a 'must stop' place. They have large tables and will add people randomly to fill them. I opted for a 4 top in the bar area, which was quieter and great for the 2 of us. The staff were amazing and as it was my wife's birthday, she was given a small Schnapps, which was delicious. They also have a nearby deli and bakery. They offer a GF carrot cake that was over the top wonderful. Go there!

Yelp
Having been here multiple times I'm ashamed I'm just now getting around to writing a review. The German food at Hollerbach is unmatched to anything else in Orlando! I look forward to coming here whenever I have a craving for German food. Staples are the curry wurst with fries and the pork schnitzel. You can't go wrong with any of the traditional sides. My favorites are the cucumber salad, spatzel and the German salad. I have yet to try the potato pancake but they look super good! I love that the patio is so dog friendly, we typically visit with our pup. They always bring out a bowl of water and sit us in a good location near the sidewalk, so our pup can enjoy people watching. They normally have live music and a good selection of German beers. Service is always pretty good and our food comes out quickly. Would love to check out the new cute bar but never got the chance since it isn't dog friendly.

Yelp
We stopped in the market to browse and ended up getting a couple of made to order sandwiches. This place is around the corner from the restaurant. It's a German market with a deli. The deli has the usual cuts you'd expect leaning more towards German fare and they offer sides and sandwiches. They have tables inside to sit down and eat. The market has a lot of hard to find German grocery items. I highly recommend at least a stop to browse. You will probably walk out with a few goodies. The service was friendly and fast. Our sandwiches made for the perfect lunch. Plenty of beer to buy Togo or have with your lunch.

Yelp
Good German food with authentic German ambience (folk music). Servers are friendly and often dressed in traditional German/Bavarian clothes. Good vegetarian options; we like the potato pancakes and the Kässpätzle.

Yelp
This place is a lot of fun. Love the beers in massive sizes and variety (can't remember the last time I saw a dunkel on the menu, and red cabbage!). Communal seating and generous portions take me back to my visits to Munich. I'll come whenever I'm in Sanford.

Yelp
We visited Hollerbach's in downtown Sanford to celebrate my dad's 82nd birthday. We had a reservation but it wasn't really needed as it was 4:30 on Sunday afternoon. Our server was Rebecca B who asked if we had been there before. None of us had so she took her time explaining the menu. My folks just had water but Johnny and I had a glass of wine and hubby a beer. We ordered 3 Jager Schnitzel's and my Mom the schnitzel chamignon. OMG, the serving size is ridiculously large and we could have easily shared a plate. I'm not sure why, but my Mom didn't enjoy the schnitzel champignon. All of us loved the red cabbage, and I thought the german potato salad was a B- as not much flavor. The restaurant is large but it wasn't too noisy and it was very clean. We want to return and try the lunch reuben. We took pictures and I will update my review after the hubby gets his phone back.

Yelp
Great Food, fun, music and Beer! Service was excellent and the food was spaced out perfectly. While waiting for our table, which was only 25 minutes on a Saturday, we ventured to the German market around the corner. Fully stocked with everything you could want!

Yelp
Hollerbachs is a stand out for a few reasons: one, it's a family owned and operated joint that's been hosting rad art shows while still maintaining live accordion music. I appreciate that fix of old style with new style, it's fun and cool and inviting. Next is the whole ambiance. From ordering off a newspaper printed menu, to said live music, to the staff are super chill and friendly. There's also a great bar off the main dining hall, which is where I ended up eating my dinner the other night. Finally there's the food: okay, I've only been here once and so I haven't done too much exploring but everything I ate was outstanding. The large pretzel is legit next level, totally fresh with no waxy taste. The chicken schnitzel was perfectly cooked and delicious, with two generous sides. And the Opa's Shrimp Spätzle was legit out of this world amazing -- I dunno how to describe it other than a perfect mix of strong and delicious spice without the heat. I would absolutely order this again and again if I lived anywhere near Sanford. Throw in a nice beer list and some nice cocktails and you got yourself a great little restaurant experience.

Yelp
Man.... This place is so good! I got the pork Jäger Schnitzel. It's so tender and the portion size is just right. I'm absolutely in love with the Schnitzel :) The red cabbage is a little sweet, so I blended gravy with it. The gravy was excellent. Everything was wonderful. It was a bit of a wait but the wait was worth it. I also ordered a Weisswurst and Bratwurst, had it with the mustard provided because I guess ketchup would be disrespectful lol. Great beer as well. Decided on the Köstritzer. 5 stars! Thank you

Yelp
Me and my band were in Sanford to put on a show at the local theater. Three of us decided to have lunch at Hollerbach's. When you walk in, it's like walking into a restaurant in Germany ! We were instantly greeted by the hostess, who got us seated right away. Our waitress, Brittany, promptly came over and greeted us, took our drink order and explained some things on the menu about the food choices and the beer choices. She was very pleasant, always smiling, competent and very attentive throughout the entire meal - possibly the best waitress anywhere !! The food was excellent - looked like real properly prepared German dishes as far as I can tell. They had a 2 piece band that started to perform and they got the entire place in a festive mood. Overall, great experience, great food and great people working there. If we ever have a gig in Sanford again, we'll definitely stop in again.

Yelp
We had reservations for a Monday evening so, sadly, we missed the popular entertainment. I would highly suggest making reservations because even on a Monday they were very busy. We were a party of 2 but after were we seated and received our drinks our server was given 2 tables of 12+ people. Sadly, it was a very long time before she came back to us or we were able to place our orders. We ordered the Flammkuchen and the bone in Pork Shank. The pork and sides were very good. Loved the sauerkraut. The Flammkuchen was good and would have been really great if it was hot or warm. We will definitely go back and try to get a reservation when they feature entertainment. All the different dishes we saw being served looked delicious and the portions were very generous.

Yelp
Yes! Yes and yes. Was in Daytona and a couple of locals recommended taking the drive to Sanford. It was well worth the trip. Server was very helpful food was beyond good, check out their deli, art gallery and German garb stores. Ambience was casual but fun. A whole day event. A must visit!

Yelp
How have we not tried this place sooner? We just got back from a family trip to Germany and we're missing it, so we decided to give this a try. My wife and I went for dinner and we had the Haus Spaetzel and a giant pretzel and they were amazing. Also, the entertainers that they had with the live music was a lot of fun. What a great atmosphere and delicious food. It's also located in a really cool part of downtown Sanford. Our server was also very friendly and attentive. I definitely recommend this place!

Yelp
Such a fun place! Great live music and full of energy. Service was absolutely incredible. Great spot with really good food. I did think it was pricey for my dinner (2 sausages with 2 sides) and while my sons both had wienerschnitzel that was a good size, the pork itself was not as flavorful as they expected. Wasn't dry though so we're happy about that. Will definitely be back though as we loved the vibe.

Yelp
We had an amazing meal today at Hollerbach's! Dawn was incredibly helpful and knowledgeable about the menu. The live music also created a fun atmosphere. The Jäger Schnitzel was a personal favorite. The potato pancakes were also a fantastic appetizer. If you like a light beer I would suggest the Kyllburger Kölsch or the Stieglitz Grapefruit Radler.

Yelp
Cheryl was our server today, and she was an absolute rockstar. Ordered some potato pancakes American style as an app. Super yummy! I ordered the two sausage deal, I ordered Mettwurst and Cajunwurst. Super delicious, the potato salad was served hot, kinda surprised me. I ATE EVERY BITE. I learned I love sauerkraut! At least the way y'all prep it! My partner got the shrimp spätzle. And we're gonna go back to get that again soon!
