Stopped in just to fill my belly before a concert and had the BEST dumplings and scallion pancake I've ever eaten! And the fried sweet buns were to die for! Not to mention the incredibly friendly folks that helped us. I will make sure to stop in every chance I get!

Khaili L.

Google
ordered uber eats - a chicken roll and what they sent me is like some kind of really disgusting prank. it's wilted like it's been sitting for days and it's freezing cold tried to call someone. they dont answer the phone also they put like....an enter chicken in here... which normally would be great except it's ice cold, no carrot, no cilantro, really nasty

If you're a dumpling lover, Hal Bao Dumpling on K Street in Sacramento might just hit the spot, though it's a mixed experience overall. Let’s start with the food. We kicked things off with the spring rolls, and wow—crispy, flavorful, and perfectly satisfying. The House Chow Mein was equally impressive, a nice balance of savory goodness. But the dumplings? Well, they were a bit underwhelming. They lacked the depth of flavor you'd hope for, more like a meatball wrapped in wet dough than the juicy, flavorful dumpling experience I was hoping for. Thankfully, the house and sesame sauces helped elevate the flavor, adding some much-needed zest to each bite. Now, for the ambiance—let’s just say it's a no-frills setup. The restaurant could definitely use some visual upgrades, and food arrives on a cafeteria tray with paper plates. Not exactly a five-star dining experience, but if you’re in the mood for dumplings and happen to be in the area, this spot can certainly scratch that itch. Hal Bao Dumpling is a good, casual choice for when you're craving dumplings—just don’t expect much more than that!

Stumbled upon it this weekend. The price point was great for the quality and quantity they give you. I shared their dumpling soup and the bao tacos and were full by the end of our meal. We liked it so much we tried to go back after our night out but sadly didnt make it on time. Highly recommend!

Google
Came here looking for cheap food in the area and while the price met our wishes, the flavor blew us out the water. My only regret is not getting more food to take home. The house sauce for the dumplings is a delicious spicy sweet masterpiece. The hot buns with the condensed milk was something I never knew I needed in my life. On top of great quality, service was good too. Man working in front was nice and held a conversation with us and even scared the daylight out of us when he made a joke about how we can't get out food because we didn't save the tag. All in all this was a fantastic experience and I'll definitely be coming back

Daniel

Google
These dumplings are delicious and incredibly priced. I showed up shortly before closing and they were happy to make me dumplings. Great customer service and great food.

Google
Highly recommend this spot! Affordable pricing for tasty dumplings, it’s a win-win! I hade the pork-chive dumplings, 12 come in a order so they are enough to fill you up. The employee who helped my friends and I was kind, the restaurant is spacious enough to sit down and enjoy your food :)

Google
I love the crispy, flavorful pan-fried pork & chive dumplings with house sauce. The folks that own/run this location are always very cheerful and pleasant to interact with. The store has always been clean and inviting with enough seating for the lunch crowd. Highly recommend giving them a try if you're in the area and looking for a tasty dumpling.

Yelp
Came here for lunch in downtown Sacramento. I ordered the spicy dumpling pork soup with 10 dumplings. This was so delicious!!! The spicy level was 6/10. Definitely not for the timid; I can handle spicy level 7 comfortably. The broth was similar to pork tonkatsu. This really hit the spot and made me really happy. Food was made fresh at peak lunch hour and took about 15 minutes. I'll be back when I'm in town.

Yelp
Glad to see dumplings are alive and well in Sacramento. I've had the pleasure of eating at this location as well as the South Sacramento location over the years, and I've never been let down. I won't lie, dumpling places aren't always on my radar when I want to eat out, but Hao Bao is probably one of the only dumpling spots I actually crave. Today I shared a modest order of 12 pan-fried veggie dumplings with house sauce and a scallion pancake. It was perfect: fast, filling, affordable, and one of the reasons this place has thrived on K Street all these years. It can be a little warm in there, but they had a fan blowing at least. Normally I'd go for pork dumplings, but the vegetable dumpling blew me away. The filling was shiitake and cabbage, surprisingly juicy and packed with flavor, and paired perfectly with the soy-vinegar-garlicky house sauce. Scallion pancakes are a personal favorite of mine, though I've been let down by them at other spots across the city. This was my first time trying them at Hao Bao, and honestly, it's probably the best one I've ever had. They nailed it: thin, crispy, yet still doughy and chewy, with perfectly flaky layers and scallions rolled right in. Man, what a treat. I could eat multiple orders. This place just ticks a lot of boxes for me and is the ideal place for a quick bite. The food comes out fast, it's very filling, the customer service is always great, and the prices are totally reasonable. I love this place and have for years. So glad to see they're still wrapping the best dumplings in Sacramento. One day, I'm getting that 120 piece dumpling tray for my birthday.

Yelp
Was craving something to eat at night and didn't want to cook so me and a friend decided to try Hao Bao Dumplings! Located in Downtown Sacramento we were surprised this place was still opened when we got there. Looking through the menu we decided to get the 12pc Chicken & Pork&Chive dumplings. For an extra cost you can get them panfried which is an automatic must in my opinion! We ended up picking the Sesame and Teriyaki sauce and I think those 2 sauces complimented the dumplings really well. The portion size seemed pretty generous for the amount you're paying and I honestly had no complaints when visiting here. Everything was nice and delicious and came out fairly quick. To be fair we were the ONLY ones in the restaurant at the time aside from the DoorDashers coming in and out to pick up their orders. Definitely a place I'll be revisiting if I wanted a cheap and quick eat!! 5/5 s

Yelp
Customer service from Marcus &Jose was amazing! The food is ALWAYS top tier ,and the environment so welcoming! Special shout out again to Jose & Marcus !

Yelp
Nothing special. Very greasy. I had one of the noodle bowls. The noodles were very dense. Think: I took the outside of a potsticker, cut it into a noodle shape, then threw some dry meat on top. Not much to say about service, this is very much a takeout spot.
google avatar

Allison R.

Yelp
i really liked my dumplings and will order again. they are great reheated in an air fryer.
google avatar

Jaane F.

Yelp
We dined in and ordered the house chow mein and Beijing noodles. The chow mein had an overly strong wok hei flavor, and many of the chicken pieces were burnt, which made it disappointing. The Beijing noodles were still fine--flavorful and well-balanced. The staff was friendly, which we appreciated, but overall the experience was just so-so due to the inconsistency in food quality.
google avatar

Susan B.

Yelp
Craved for some dumplings after a show in the area. Self service kiosk to place your order and then seat yourself. Food will be brought out by the staff. Food came out within 10 mins. I ordered Hao Bao Tacos, Pork Dumpling combo and added a side of teriyaki sauce. Tacos and dumplings were good but were lukewarm. I prefer them to be hotter. Teriyaki sauce was nothing special. House special sauce is the way to go. All the staff are in the kitchen so it will take a while to get assistance if you need any. They forgot my drink so I had to wait until someone came out to ask about it.

Yelp
This is a pleasant surprise for downtown Sacramento. It's quality authentic Chinese food available at very late hours. The dumplings are made to order and can take some time to be prepared. The restaurant is small, but they package food well to-go if you want to walk it back to your hotel. The restaurant is air conditioned but can't handle large groups. The steamed pork dumplings are good and large enough to share between 2-3 people. I really liked their house dipping sauce, nice mix of sweet, savory and little bit of heat and spice.
google avatar

Shannon W.

Yelp
Bite sized steamed dumplings are accompanied by a flavorful house dipping sauce. Pan fried dumplings are crispy and the spicy dipping sauce compliments the saltiness of the dumpling. For a street food feel, order the tso yo bing- onion pancake. It is crispy and very tasty. The service is excellent and very friendly. We came in with a large group (11) and they were more than accommodating. Highly recommend.
google avatar

Janus C.

Yelp
Came here because it was one of very few late-night eats. The dumplings were mediocre, would've just gone to In-n-Out instead.
google avatar

Brian C.

Yelp
Enjoyed a bowl of a 10piece beef dumpling soup. I opted for self service ordering since the gent at the register was taking a call in order. Service was quick and I was already sipping on soup and snapping these photos in a couple of minutes. Even on a warm day, I enjoyed having the soup. Requested chopsticks but soup spoon, fork, and napkins come when the tray is served. Would have loved to have tried some garlic chili oil but could not tell if any were any available, as there were no condiments on the tables. Fair pricing, the wrapper was a little thicker than I'm used to, and the meats were all uniform in taste, size, and texture. The soup was flavorful and beautifully garnished with tasty green and white onions. Very good soup, I almost finished it all. If you like noodles, you can order some on the side, but to me, the dumpling wrapper was all the extra noodle I would want. Was able to finish the bowl, but could have easily saved half for later. Looks like they would have lids and baggies readily available for to go. Satisfying, good taste, fast, would definitely go again. Not many places still open in this part of downtown, so the good ratings here are well deserved.

Yelp
It's is a delicious dumpling spot! The dumplings and tacos were flavorful. The dessert was delectable. Inside is small with a bit of seating. The service was fast. Highly recommend!
google avatar

Sheila B.

Yelp
Friendly staff and food is quite good here. Open till late. But I don't enjoy being inside to be honest - would rather order to go.

Akshay K.

Yelp
Dumplings weren't fried throughly but also a bonus super long hair in it. The tiny overpriced Hao bao tacos had very little meat and lots of oil. Ordered and waited +30min because they forgot my order and skipped it, had to tell them and still waited. Eating inside is pretty cramped, both ordering to dine in as well as just picking up order. Trash was full and tables had trash on them fro previous customers. Wouldn't recommend, there are far better options close by that are both tastier, cleaner, far less wait, and better staffed.
google avatar

Yelp
UMAMI!! Quaint dumpling spot. Plump, packed full of flavor and oh so yummy! One bite of these dumplings and you will be hooked. Food ordered 1.) pork dumplings- flavorful, soft, light and the right ration of meat and dumpling wrap. 2.) Beijing noodles with pork belly- noodles taste like the hand pulled noodles!! Yum yum yum Other: -$$$ -when you order you use the kiosk and then pick a table -bathrooms in the way way back to the left -50/50 on the parking -normal service
google avatar

Joshua S.

Yelp
It's quick eat places; not many other Asian foods so maybe it's good to visit when you get tired from western cuisines
google avatar

TK N.

Yelp
The establishment is small, I would suggest a to go order if you can but the food is delicious. It is right in Downtown Sacramento within walking distance of the Capitol.
google avatar

Al B.

Yelp
They are pretty all right, but you need to be there in the a.m. as it gets later. It will be more soggy. Also, the consistency isn't the same, but I've been getting lucky. They needs to bring back the deep fried option

John A.

Yelp
Flew to Sacramento to enjoy seeing my CLE Guardians play in a minor league park; very enjoyable, btw. After the game, was looking for late nite Asian fare. Yelp found this for us only a few blocks from our hotel. Kind of a pan- Asian vibe, compared to the regional places found in Vegas. And was worried about the non- Asian staff on duty. Ordered way too much. But the food was good; dumplings, dumpling soup, etc. Deduction for some lack of cleanliness in the dining area, as well as the interrogation level overead lighting. A solid place when downtown.
google avatar

DEBB D.

Yelp
Enjoyed the Beijing noodles! It was a good portion, very filling. The pork had good flavor and it was pretty meaty (lil fat). The noodles were slightly thick but I didn't mind. The dumplings were good size too! I tried it with their house sauce which was a combo of slight chile with mild sweetness. I ordered the 12 piece. It's $1 extra for grilled & they charge extra for extra sauce too (just FYI). The total for both of these was about $27. A little steep but it was good. Service was good as he was patient with me and gave me a taste of their house sauce, which I really appreciated!! If I lived here, I would gladly return.
google avatar

Courtney M.

Yelp
I would not recommend this place to anyone. The menu was very limited and overpriced; everything had a weird frozen taste. The service was very basic level. You order at a kiosk and they call your name. That's it, even for dine in. They played Kanye West which was lowkey off-putting. Do not go here, so many other better places in Sac.
google avatar

Chrissyy ..

Yelp
Hao bao dumplings? Hao bao you close down your business. Dumplings were absolutely terrible, nice service though

Nancy N.

Yelp
Went here for lunch. Nothing fancy about this place but, delicious dumplings and good service.

Casey D.

Yelp
Great service and atmosphere. Marcus was so helpful and kind! Would definitely recommend.
google avatar

Monica L.

Yelp
This place is situated on K st and a good spot to have lunch if you want something quick . They have chicken, pork, and beef dumplings, which is pretty awesome for those who do not eat pork. The dumplings are very meaty, and I prefer them to be pan fried because the boiled ones can be gummy at times. One thing I did not like was the Beijing noodle. It is way too salty . I couldn't even finish a quarter of the dish. I wanted to like it so bad because the pulled noodles are delicious . The staff is nice. The location is prime. Go here for dumplings or even try the soup because it's decent
google avatar

Deb G.

Yelp
Dumpling have thick covering..i have high standards when it comes to dumpling..maybe try to have a thinner covering for dumpling
google avatar

Tram B.

Yelp
You can either order on the kiosk or order in person at the counter to ask about the secret menu. We did the kiosk this time because we were too hungry to wait in the line. The dumplings came out in about 10-15 minutes. You can also add a sauce in, I recommend either the house sauce or the house spicy. We ordered the pork and chives dumplings, which were filled with much flavor. I usually opt for pan fried dumplings, but here I recommend their regular dumplings instead. Something about it just hits different. Also for the price for 12 dumplings? That's super cheap. Great way to get your dumpling cravings satisfied.
google avatar

Stephanie H.

Yelp
The dumplings here likely won't be the best ones you've ever tasted. What Hao Bao has going for it is that they have pretty good portions for the price, especially considering that it's located in Downtown Sac. You order at the kiosk. When the items were brought out, service was friendly. Seating is limited. You can only fit two people at a table, making it not feasible for a group to really eat together & hold a conversation. They have bar seating in addition to the two-seater tables. The dough of the dumplings were too thick for my preference. We had Veggie Dumpling Soup, a Chicken Roll, and Pork Dumplings. The Chicken Roll was the tastiest item, in my opinion, but this could be due to it being fried. You can choose to have the dumplings boiled or pan fried. We choose boiled, but I regretted not choosing pan fried since I didn't love the consistency of the dumplings. You get one choice of four sauces per dumpling order and any additional sauces would be an additional charge; sauces do not come with the soup. We tried the house sauce and sesame sauce; these definitely made the dumplings more flavorful. To summarize, don't come here expecting to have the best dumplings in terms of taste, but if you want an affordable lunch/dinner, it's a decent option when in the downtown area.
google avatar

Jared R.

Yelp
The dumplings were oily and greasy, lacking flavor. The service was great but the staff can only do some much to cover for the sub-par food. I would not recommend with the many other choices next door and nearby.
google avatar

Shu Ming L.

Yelp
We're big fans of the other Hao Bao location. Tried this downtown location for the first time. Horrible experience. Waited over 40 mins for a simple order of dumplings. Shop was filled with other customers waiting and waiting. Something's wrong with this location
google avatar

Juan T.

Yelp
5 years later and they're still going strong. Prices and quality still outstanding. Enjoyed my visit and have added a current menu.
google avatar

Michelle L.

Yelp
Had an event at the Crest Theater and stopped in for a quick bite for dinner, as at the screening, only typical concessions snacks would be available. A few others dining in, but only tables along the right wall, then some bar stools. Three screens with menu displays and a giant tablet for self-ordering. I didn't ever see a human cashier. I've seen their Stockton Blvd location near Asian Pearl/Duc Huong but didn't know about this one. Did it used to be Vampire Penguin or something before? #theKay Pretty simple and short menu. The A-Frame outside the front door was advertising a dozen dumplings for $8.50; it sounded like a good deal to me! I ordered the 12 piece Pork Dumplings (boiled/steamed?) with their house sauce at 6:09 PM, and they were ready in 5 minutes tops -- brought out to my table. Got my receipt via text. Super fast! Dumplings themselves were a tiny bit smaller in diameter than the sauce container, served in a dispoable cardboard food tray on a plastic cafeteria-style tray, with a fork by default. I didn't ask for chopsticks this time. These were steaming hot. The inner filling had good flavor but definitely was compacted in texture when you bit into it. 12 pieces were pretty filling all on their own. $8.50 was a very good price!
google avatar

Kristi G.

Yelp
I work in the area and love this place to pick up lunch. I recently discovered their dumpling soup and it's so delicious. I definitely recommend this place!
google avatar

Dre S.

Yelp
I wanted to love it but I've had better dumplings in midtown. The server was great and attentive and helpful. It's a quick spot to grab food on your way to any activities in DOCO.
google avatar

M. V.

Yelp
The dumplings were good and fresh tasting. It was the self ordering and boarded up view of the kitchen that really felt impersonal. This restaurant is perfect for a grab and go meal.
google avatar

Thomas M.

Yelp
What a great, authentic dumpling house in the middle of midtown. It takes a bit of time but that's because everything is cooked to order. We had the steamed pork dumplings, green onion pancake, cream cheese wontons, and the crowd favorite, a bao "taco". Everything was fantastic.

Khaili S.

Yelp
ordered uber eats - a chicken roll and what they sent me is like some kind of really disgusting prank. it's wilted like it's been sitting for days and it's freezing cold also they put like....an enter chicken in here... which normally would be great except it's ice cold, no carrot, no cilantro, really nasty

Bridgett F.

Yelp
This is my first time having dumplings and let me say, they were so good. The service is really good, we got helped almost right away. The place is really small but it's quiet and it's pretty nice saying that it is considered a fast food restaurant. I would definitely come here again!

Nick H.

Yelp
If I could give this place zero stars I would. My friends and I came to this place yesterday hoping to fix our dumpling craving. The ambiance was a meh. For service we ordered on the kiosk and the server was nice enough to help us. However, it's the food that's the most important. We ordered 2 noodles and 2 dumplings. 1 boiled and 1 pan friend. As soon as we finished our food immediately we felt sick. The pan friend dumplings were soggy and felt like they didn't cook it properly. The noodles were too oily and it was flat. Each one of us felt sluggish and sick after finishing our food. If you're considering eating here, Hao Bao you get your dumpling fix elsewhere. Hao Bao you take your money somewhere else.

Yelp
Huge dumplings, Great prices! This is one of two Hao Bao Dumpling locations in Sacramento. The other one is on Stockton Street. After an event at the DoCo area we headed over to look for this place. I liked my first time experience at the Stockton location and enjoyed the food there so I was excited that this location was just walking distance from DoCo along K Street. After deciding on what to get we placed our order at the kiosk. We found the kiosk to be user friendly... some self-ordering kiosks can be technically challenging (at least for me) LoL ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ Our order came fast (within minutes) and was served to our table. We shared an order of the Combo Pork and Combo Chicken. 12-pcs each of pan-fried (or boiled) dumplings with a bottle of soda (or water). The dumplings were huge pieces and I got full fast with just eating 6 pieces. Comes with choice of sauce and we got the house sauce and the sesame sauce. Delicious and amazing portions at reasonable prices. The combo were $10/ea. The menu board included descriptions and ingredients of the items for those with allergy concerns. The menu also offered noodles, soup and chicken and spring rolls. Review #2867

Yelp
I have never heard of this place until door dash. The dumplings were DELICIOUS. I would like to personally thank you for the delicious food. I will be in soon to enjoy dumplings and noodles with the entire family. Cheers and happy new year -Dr.B
google avatar

Tiffany H.

Yelp
Been wanting to try this place. I was nearby so I finally got my chance. There's no parking lot and no parking directly in front of the restaurant so you have to try to find street parking then walk. I got the chicken dumplings and spicy chow mein. The chicken dumplings had good flavor but I did not like the corn in it. I have never had corn in my dumplings before which was a strange addition. I did like the hand pulled noodles though which had a good texture and chewy. Service was quick and the food is good but parking can be difficult.
google avatar

Amanda K.

Yelp
5-stars for the food, 4-stars for the vibe. Loved the dumpling soup and spring rolls. Counter service. Plastic silverware (even for dining in!). All tables are 2-seaters, 1 counter top. Thankfully, it wasn't too crowded when our group arrived (Friday dinner time), so we were able to squeeze 4 chairs around a table. Would definitely come again for a quick business day lunch and/or takeout, but not enough space for a group dinner.
google avatar

Jason L.

Yelp
This place was every bit as good as Din Tai Fung. The food was fast and excellent. We will go there every time we are in Sacramento.
google avatar

Lauren T.

Yelp
My date and I shared the pork dumplings and had them boiled. I liked the generous amount of filling, but some of the wrappers were a bit dry. For this reason, I would recommend getting them pan fried vs boiled. We got the chili oil for the sauce, it was good (not too spicy), but I wish they would have left out soy sauce so I could have mixed them together.
google avatar

Diana G.

Yelp
Have tried it twice and both times I was disappointed. The last time I had a dumpling soup and it was unbelievably salty... And I say this as someone who loves salt and savory foods. The employees are nice.
google avatar

Alejandra O.

Yelp
Delicious is all I can say, orders the beef dumplings and changed the chow mein from pork to chicken, it was a very delicious and satisfying meal!!
google avatar

Mikayla M.

Yelp
We walked here on my lunch break and split the 12 piece beef dumplings (pan fried) and got it with house sauce and the flavor and texture was good. The house sauce seems to be chili oil with other stuff mixed into it so it has good flavor and slight spice. The service was quick and they have a tablet you can order on if you don't want to order with the cashier. They have a few tables inside and outside. I would come back here to try other menu items. Good prices here.
