"This fifth-generation Italian deli owned by Lou, Sal, and Marie Di Palo (one of them is likely to wait on you) opened in 1910 on Mott Street selling freshly made mozzarella and ricotta. Now it specializes in all manner of imported Italian products, especially cheeses and cold cuts. Brace yourself for a wait, though there’s great people watching, and generous samples as you finally transact. Mozzarella and ricotta are still made on the premises." - Robert Sietsema, Eater Staff

"Mozzarella "I will find any excuse I can to go to Di Palo. Their food is wonderful. Their prices are ridiculous. They own the building and if you're buying mozzarella anyplace else, you're an idiot. I lived on Rivington Street in the Bowery in '70s and it was my go-to place. That was when all the old Italian moms still lived in the neighborhood. You'd go in there and people would be trading recipes. The thing about their mozzarella is that mozzarella should never be put in the refrigerator. It changes. Di Palo is the one place I know where you can get mozzarella that was made that day and has never been refrigerated. To just go in there, and especially if you get it when it's still warm, it is the most delicious thing. And I know it's not made with water buffalo milk—it's made with cow's milk—but it's still really delicious. And then you end up buying all the other things there. You go for the food, but you also just go to be there." - brennan carley

My Brooklyn-born wife and I visited Di Palo's in Little Italy. It's a timeless gem that feels like stepping back in time. The atmosphere is warm and inviting, with shelves of authentic Italian cheeses, meats, and specialty goods. The staff treated us like family, offering samples and sharing their knowledge. It's more than a store—it's a sensory experience that celebrates tradition and quality. Di Palo's is a must-visit for food lovers when in the City.

Google
A treasure trove of Italian goodies! I’ve been looking for imported Italian mortadella studded with pistachio and I found it here! The mortadella is sliced to order and I got to sample a slice at the end. It was a really nice touch and the mortadella tasted really good! I also got their homemade mozzarella and it was so good on my homemade pizza. Service was great and they take their time with each customer. There could be a long wait but you feel like the only person when they’re helping you. Will be back for sure!

Di Palo’s Fine Foods is a true gem in the heart of Little Italy, offering an authentic Italian experience that feels like stepping into a piece of old New York. For over 100 years, this family-owned shop has been serving some of the finest Italian products in the city. The selection of cured meats and cheeses is outstanding. I highly recommend the Porchetta—thinly sliced roasted pork, seasoned with just the right amount of rosemary. The Di Palo family and staff take their time with each customer, not only providing recommendations but also offering samples of their products. While the shop can get crowded, especially on weekends, the wait is always worth it.

My partner had introduced me to the grocery store. I bought authentic Italian orecchiette and cooked it with a sausage. The grocery store has a clean environment and a heartwarming atmosphere. I love the authenticity and natural ingredients of the orecchiette. I’ll be there again for more orecchiette in order to cook more recipes.

Di Palo’s has become one of my favorite parts about living in Nolita. As a fake Italian, I love coming here for the perfect sandwich ingredients. If you don’t have the patience to wait for the great service and food, good riddance.

Google
True Italy inside the NY A shop where you can buy everything Italian: fresh cheese (maaaany varieties), salami and other meat, hand made pasta and ravioli, different sauces and oil. Of course, there are variety of appetizers like olives, dried tomatoes, peppers, artichokes etc. Nice staff. Be aware: this shop closes at 6pm.

As authentic as it gets! Wide selection of attractively displayed foodstuffs in well-organized aisles. Old-worldly feel. Friendly staff and convenient location.

Di Palo's is the best, most comprehensive Italian “salumeria” in the United States— not in New York, but in the country, quite probably in North America. The range of highest quality imported Italian meats and cheeses are unmatched along with a large selection of housemade salads, fresh pastas and sauces and then, of course,, there are all the olive oils, vinegars and things in jars. Yes, the line can be long because people know that this is the place and they are happy to wait knowing that once they reach the front they will be served with the greatest attention and care.

Yelp
I got 0.25lb of prosciutto. It was the best I've ever had. The flavor was incredible and it was quite literally melting from the heat of my skin as I pulled it off the plastic wrapping it comes in. It's also dirt cheap for the quality. I believe I only paid $6-7 for the meat. Which is about what you'd pay for a fraction of that quantity at Walmart. Expect to wait in line for a while, the service is slow but it's because the siblings who run the shop *love* to talk to their customers. Expect to hear some corny jokes while they take your order. There is plenty of Italian foodstuff to look at while you wait. I was pleasantly surprised by the small-town feel of this big city store.

Alana K.

Yelp
I came here to pick up some cold cuts, cheese, and bread. The quality of everything was good, and items are priced accordingly. The staff were so helpful and friendly. I'd definitely come back!

Yelp
Great ty Italian cheese t meats, good service and courteous. Prices are ok We have been shopping there over 30 years Prosciutto bread is on the money!

Yelp
An incredible family-owned and operated cheese shop! I was showing visiting family around Chinatown and Little Italy when we came upon this cute local business that has been around forever. My mom loves places like this, so I recommended we head inside to check it out. First of all, cheese EVERYWHERE. All Italian. There are also meats, salads, cookies, crackers, olives, and other charcuterie/cheeseboard accoutrements. We opted for one cow's milk cheese and one goat's milk cheese. Both were really fragrant and delicious. We also bought some salami, which was absolute perfection. The lady who helped my mom was one of the owners, and she was so kind and patient with all my mom's questions. She gave us all samples of everything as well, which is always a welcome treat. Highly recommend this shop for your Italian cheese, meat, and grocery needs!

Brad B.

Yelp
A family run business for generations and 10 decades. It started out very slowly, but the best prosciutto I've ever had in my life great wines by the glass and incredibly reasonable they have a supermarket next-door that has been around also for 100 years.. The prosciutto was so good. We ordered it again with some more cheese, and the Burrata was delicious with the roasted peppers. Sam, the son, Luigi and Sal the brothers really know their food will definitely come back.

Yelp
This review of DiPalo's is looking overdue. I have been to DiPalo's several times over the past ten years or so and one should not pass this gem up. DiPalo's will transport you back to another era, another time, another place when and where people shop frequently for their needs with freshness and quality at a premium. If you are looking for your charcuterie or wish to entertain folks, stop by and let your palate realize an explosion of flavor. The last time I was at DiPalo's a few weeks ago, I fortunately stopped in before the crowd and line formed behind me. When you come in, pull a number to get your place in line. This is cheese, salami and ham heaven in here. The aroma greets you. The selection is incredible and they will let you try a slice if you're not sure. This is old school and old world at its best to the extent one can find it here in the US. Taste that sharp cheese and salami and ham of choice explode on your palate with a beautiful focaccia underneath; heirloom tomato, olive oil and Italian seasonings on top. A simple pleasure readily available for your delight here. Pair it with your red of choice and repeat, each time your palate is rewarded anew. Old world and old school service await you here too. They aim to please, but not to a fault. Respect the folks here and the respect comes back. This is one of those places in NYC that is irreplaceable. It's special and a well deserved four and a half stars.

Yelp
I Family has been coming to this location since it opened nearly 100 years ago. My mom tells stories about waking up early with my grandmother to go down and get cheeses for the holidays. Despite getting there early, there would already be a line outside the door, that's how popular this place has been, and remains to this day. The market itself isn't anything mind blowing - you have very good specialty foods, but it's not a huge shopping space. However, you simply cannot find better artisanal cheeses in the city. When you hear families talk about the difference, they can taste and smell with the highest quality cheeses they're referring to the type of offerings you will find here in addition, you're plenty of choices with smoked meats, a selection of pastas, and other ingredients. After market hours, a wine bar upstairs offers an excellent opportunity to pair drink selections with some of their finest cheeses and meats. It's unpretentious, approachable, and dang good. This is the type of place you take friends to when they're visiting the city for the first time and you want to avoid the tourist trappings. The ambience of the market and the wine bar are modern, with an old world feel. It's worth noting these aren't the cheapest offerings you'll find, but in my opinion, they represent some of the best.

Yelp
I miss Di Palo's very much! I once lived just two blocks away from Di Paulo's and even so, I always bought too much with each visit. It was such a treat to have this gem nearby. I mean, how could you not buy too much?! Everything was so great! The Porchetta right out of the oven on weekends was amazing, the panini sandwiches, the-made-a-second-ago-in-front-of-you mozzarella, fried chicken cutlets, meatballs, any fresh pasta on the counter, just sautéed broccoli rabe; you couldn't possibly walk in without smelling and seeing what just came out of the kitchen on the counter and not grab a little of everything that was ready made to eat. Everything was always on point and delicious. That porchetta though, was the best! The grocery cold section was just as great. The ready made sauces could amp up any of your personal creations at home and make you a star! The ready to be reheated pasta entrees, like the better the second day, eggplant lasagnas were so filling and perfect for a quick meal. If you needed more time between servings, the raviolis in the frozen section contained plenty of varieties to satisfy your tastes at a much later date of your choosing. It doesn't get any easier than a box of frozen pasta and a container of homemade gravy/sauce. Once you get to the counter, you'll see refrigerators with some of the best aged Proscuitto and Speck ready to be sliced with care, whole salami's, mortadella & culatello cold cuts and finally the cheeses including the ricotta. A few drops of honey with this ricotta is a delicious snack. Lastly the pantry section is stocked with only the best best varieties of olive oil, balsamic, dried pastas, dried herbs, cookies straight from Italy,.... If you had any questions about any of the products, just know that the owners would be none to happy to engage with you, and provide you any details because they've personally tried everything they sell, and know best how it is to be used. Finally, I remember when it was just one long narrow aisle with a counter, they have renovated for a few years now, and the store looks great, but how they operate is still the same, whoever was at the counter was the king/queen of the moment and had all the attention of the server. One customer at a time is how it used to be done which is still how it is done today even it if takes just a bit longer to get your order. Even though the pandemic has eliminated tastings and samples for the time being, hopefully we get back to the way things were and I get another slice of that porchetta someday soon.

Yelp
What a find ! This place is a true gem - so glad I am staying near this deli it has all the goodies for the perfect charcuterie at half the price you would pay at a restaurant.

Jen M.

Yelp
I was taken aback by the "joke of the day" shared with me. Obviously, I am no longer used to not being in a rush to get here and there. The man at the counter was very warm, congenial, and was very willing to take his time with the customer. Gave me something to think about on my way home. It's not my first time shopping here. They have some of the best Italian cheeses and meats.

Donata D.

Yelp
What could be better?! A wonderful late lunch picnic! I'll be back next trip to the city!

Kathryn L.

Yelp
My first time here. I saw products I have never seen in regular supermarkets. I purchased some salami and cheese and they were both out of this world delicious. I found the staff friendly and helpful. Look forward to trying my Italian tuna, too!

Gab G.

Yelp
COVID report: You can shop inside Di Palo's again (they were doing order-ahead only for a while during the pandemic)! Di Palo's is definitely an institution. They have a great selection of meats and cheeses, as well as a small variety of pantry items. I picked up some pork sausage, parmesan, pasta and prosciutto in early February. The parm was way better than whatever you get at Whole Foods, which is to be expected. Prosciutto was also a standout, though nothing compares to the stuff you get in Italy (import restrictions and all that). Employees were friendly and the line moved pretty fast!

Judy C.

Yelp
I love this place. The cold cuts and cheese are the best in the city. Sal, Louie, and Marie are the nicest people.

Rachel B.

Yelp
Came here for some cheese to bring back to Miami as my bf and I love different goods from great delis here . This is an old school spot , cash only still used old school cash registers but that is the charm of this little deli. Ask for any cheese and you can get a sample and the sweet older lady that helped was very knowledgeable probably because she has been a long time worker and it shows ! Tasted some amazing aged Parmesan , pepper corn cheese (amazing bite) , truffle infused cheese which is so rich and some Asiago ended up probably walking out with 2 pounds of cheese super cool and we will be back to pack a ton back to Miami again! Overall fun market and if you want fresh olives , peppers and sweets gather those up then get some fresh bread and wine and you got a good night !

John M.

Yelp
Di Palo's is a wonderful stop if you are looking for some wonderful Italian delicacies. The lines can get a bit long, but there is a reason for this, the place is wonderful.

Michael Y.

Yelp
Prosciutto and cheese here are great, but I wish the management was better at crowd/line control. You often have to wait a very long time, even if there are only 5-6 people in front of you. But authenticity and quality of food is amazing here, so if you can avoid the rush while getting stuff here, you're in good hands.

Susan B.

Yelp
There are few places as informative, delicious. and welcoming as Di Palo's. The first time I went there, almost 30 years ago, Lois was doing a tasting is winter and summer parmesans.. I learned the difference in taste between cows fed from grain and then grass fed in summer. I fell in love with this magical place that transports you to Italy. Over the years I've been turned on to amazing cheeses, meats, olive oils, vinegars- and so much more. And in the last few years, I can pick up great wines next door at their wine shop. And now they're opening up the perfect place to stop for appertivos and wine I

Maria P.

Yelp
Sam and Lou are Amazing!!! I felt like family while being here. I couldn't recommend it more highly. Italian American at its best.

M B.

Yelp
Deeply grateful for every morsel of food, from meats and cheeses to olives and pastas, and for every drop of modena balsalmic and olive oil ive enjoyed since i first started visiting Di Palo's 40 years ago! Thank you for your impeccable service - that you are consistently kind and generous in the time and attention you provide to each customer. Your inspiring ambiance provides plenty of entertainment for the eye while waiting my turn in line. I'm always extra happy when you're busy and bustling, since this assures that hopefully, you'll be around for many more years. With a full heart i can say that nyc wouldnt be half as great as it is without you! Always look forward to my next visit!

Joyce C.

Yelp
My favorite italian deli! The have very high quality meats and cheeses that are hard to find elsewhere. Di Palo is one of the little gems of Little Italy. The staff are super nice and love to chat and answer any questions you have about how to eat each item or what to pair it with. This place does get super busy though, when there is a line, do expect to wait there for at least 30 minutes before getting in your order.

Caroline N.

Yelp
Full disclosure: 11 Little Italy stores participated in the Netflix promotion of the Irishman that happen this past Friday and Saturday, it became a treasure hunt/food tour for me. Haven't been in this store in ages since my parents used to come here to buy meat and cheeses to make daily sandwiches every day. With this promotion, this was definitely a walk down memory lane. If you are buying an item, you take a number from the ticket dispenser by the door. You wait for an employee to call your number and put in your order request. Since this is a promotional item, I didn't want to waste a ticket and stood patiently on the line. When one of the employees ask who are friends of Jimmy, I raised my hands along with a handful of people. The employee quipped that Jimmy has a lot of friends...yes, he does! He goes to the back and comes back with some containers to pass to each participant. It's fresh mozzarella balls. How cool. Love their cheeses! Thank you Di Palo and Netflix for the treat!

Marcella B.

Yelp
Not only does Di Palo's offer the very best in imported Italian cheeses and cured meats (our Italian family has been shopping here for over 40 years) but the customer service is beyond impeccable. Always an excellent experience.

Liz K.

Yelp
Thank goodness for DiPalo's. One of the only places in Little Italy to get great cheese, prosciutto, pasta, and the list goes on. The family that runs Dipalos is wonderful. They have a true love for the food they are selling and will talk to you about it for as long as you want. The wait can be long, but it's always fun to spy on what everyone else is buying. I always end up trying something new after someone else makes a purchase. The best Olive Oil in town. Their prepared foods are delicious.

Andrew S.

Yelp
The best food and service for italian food. The mozzarella is delicious and do is everything else. Waiting to be helped is an experience on its own, you get to taste different foods and decide if you want to buy or not. What a jewel of fine foods!!! Jessica who always helps me with my order is just a wonderful and knowledgeable sweet lady!

Mich M.

Yelp
Favorite prosciutto: 1) Prosciutto Specks; smoky, thin, fatty, a little chewy because of the fattiness, flavorful, mouth-wateringly delicious! $28.99/lb 2) Prosciutto di San Danielle; so thin it's see-through, pink, breath-taking aroma, melts in your mouth, sweet, moist! 3) Prosciutto di Parma; also very thin, rosy pink, breathe in the aroma before eating it, it will melt in your mouth. Also very sweet and moist, and absolutely delicious! 4) Truffle Prosciutto Cotto; dry, the smell of truffle is superb, salty, delicious. $20.99/lb 5) Rosemary herbs prosciutto cotto; dry, tastes like the American herbal turkey that they sell. $17.99/lb

Su L.

Yelp
This place is the Italian cheese store of my dreams. This is an old school Italian grocery store, stocking imported Italian goods ranging from cheeses and cured meats, housemade pastas and sauces, olive oils, and small Italian sweets. When you enter the store, you take a number and wait for one of the staff to call your number. I came in on a Friday afternoon around 5pm, and didn't have to wait very long. The staff were friendly, and they give you samples of the cheese that you want to buy. The prices are comparable to regular cheese in grocery stores, but the experience is much nicer, and more authentic here.

Donna L.

Yelp
This place is seriously amazing. They have everything to fulfill your Italian dreams. From seriously the best cured meats to an array of fresh and aged cheese. Look no further. Everything you need is right here. As of right now (covid times) they're only doing pick up, you have to call to place the order. Once you get there you have to go to the table outside of the shop and call them to let them know you're there. And voila! They were also fairly quick with preparing my items. Thank you graciously

Chrysanthia K.

Yelp
This is a wonderful Italian market filled with all sorts of delightful morsels of yumminess. It smelled divine inside & the selections was impressive.

Diane S.

Yelp
I have been shopping at Di Palo's for years and it is the best deli for authentic Italian products. Bought their book and read it cover to cover. I am now a more informed consumer on authentic Italian products! I shop here every time I am in NYC and stock up with products to take home!

Bill Q.

Yelp
I was incredibly excited to try Di Palo's after hearing so much about it for so long - Father's Day seemed to be the ideal opportunity, I could not have been more wrong. It started well enough, we got there at 7 PM for our 7:30 reservation, found seats at the bar, and were served fantastic drinks by a friendly staff. We were then sat promptly at 7:30, and this is where it all went wrong. While our server did her absolute best to keep the night rolling with our appetizers and salad, we still waited until after 9:30 PM (more than 2 full hours) for our entrees to show. If that wasn't bad enough, when it hit the table, the food was luke warm at best. We immediately asked for boxes and left. Clearly something went horribly wrong in the kitchen and it was handled poorly. Hopefully the food taste good tonight when we reheat it.

Claire L.

Yelp
The best cheese ever! Every time I come here the service is impeccable! They are great at recommending cheeses and other items. Since covid they haven't been able to give out samples but prior to they would let you sample all types of cheeses so you could figure out what you like. This store is definitely an awesome experience and the homemade mozzarella is so fresh and creamy, you've got to try it! And they have a great wine store next door where they will help you pair your cheese to the perfect bottle of wine.

Deirdre L.

Yelp
Beautiful store with beautiful products. I love that this is a small business that has stuck around. I came for prosciutto because I am on the Whole30 and the prosciutto has no preservatives - just pork and salt! The people behind the counter are very nice and give you a piece of the prosciutto to try when you place an order. There could be a wait. Make sure you take a number as soon as you walk in. I would love to come back and try the other products once I start to reintroduce myself to foods. Everything looks so fresh and delicious!

Adriana B.

Yelp
Great family owned business. Went there for a drink before our reservation for dinner elsewhere. Me and my boyfriend had never been, and were pleasantly surprised. We were given complimentary crostini and nuts with our wine, which was recommended to us. The music was upbeat but not too much, and the environment was very chill. The menu had a wide variety of meats and cheeses for charcuterie from their store, and different paninis. We will definitely be back!

Laura Y.

Yelp
Grab a number as soon as you walk in. Prepare to wait. Enjoy what you see around and listen for the numbers because you may get missed if you only listen for yours specifically. ie. they jump to 24,26,27,28 and you're still number 18... better be ready to holler! There are a couple of seats but most people stand. A couple of the guys who work here that have a good sense of humor that adds personality to the place. People have really dinged this place for wait time and it's pretty accurate how it goes down here. Timing is everything and buffering for time would be in your best interest too. But it's similar to a place that's popular on a Friday night or weekend or grand opening where a longer wait is inevitable.. expect it and plan for it so you ain't mad about it when it happens. The customer service is nice, has that welcoming/we'll take care of you no problem vibe to it. If you don't know what you want/it's your first time in a place like this/ not sure what to expect, they'll help you figure it out and they won't rush you. They do get busy and you probably will feel like being speedier but these employees also take their time so goodluck rushin them on your clock. I come here for the prosciutto and salami. The prosciutto da parm is so velvety in texture you will really enjoy just for that alone. I found their speck and cotta to have more flavor and a dryer texture that wasn't as silky but very thinly sliced. They'll ask you how much and you can get different amount like a 1/4 lb or 1/3 lb, 1/2 lb etc. and they'll slice it there. The dry spicy salami was my favorite because it had a jerky like texture and delivered in flavor at the end with a peppery flavor to it that I really enjoyed. They'll slice it for you or leave it as a stick.

Jennifer S.

Yelp
Sal is wonderful! He ordered an item for me that I had a hard time finding. Thanks, Sal!

Neil B.

Yelp
As a former Rhode Islander who grew up eating food from the Italian family run markets and bakeries on "The Hill" in Providence, I am always impressed by this oasis of the original Little Italy among the tourist trap Italian restaurants and encroaching Asian and Millennial businesses. Di Palo's is not the only Italian specialty shop but it is one of, if not the best of them all! They are not inexpensive but they sell top of the line Italian meats, cheeses and other foods. As others have suggested, don't be staring in awe at all the wonderful products so traditionally displayed and after 10 minutes realize that until you take a number and it is called, you aren't going to be served!

Frank A.

Yelp
As an Italian-American with deep Brooklyn and Manhattan roots, it doesn't get much better than Di Palo's for me. Since the Di Palo family has been in business for almost 110 years (at the current location since 1925), it would not be a surprise to learn that they might have sold cheese and other produce to some of my recently arrived ancestors 100 years ago. But we don't go to Di Palo's for nostalgia, we go for the amazing quality and great tastes of their products. They have great prepared foods too. Growing up Italian you learn that family comes first and at Di Palo's everyone is family.

Andrew S.

Yelp
Incredible is the only way to describe their mastery of their craft. You would have to spend a lifetime to find a shop in the US that' can beat this place.

Tian Q.

Yelp
-1 star because I always wait 20-30 minutes just to have my number be called... but anyway! Their prosciutto is the best I've had in the city! Super thinly sliced, large slices, and the right amount of saltiness on each of them. I usually get 1 point, which is about $26. I also get their mozzarella sometimes when I eat it with bread. Their small roll bread is only $0.99, why not grab one? They also have Italian produce such as pasta, sauces, jams, other meats, cheeses, and etc. *secret (not anymore) on not have to wait so long is to call them and order through phone, and go pick it up within 30 mins - 1 hour.

Nicola M.

Yelp
We found this gem in Little Italy yesterday morning. If you are looking for meat, cheese, and traditional Italian condiments (amazing olive oil, balsamic, olives etx) this is THE PLACE! It is a 5 generation family operation that owns a wine store, the deli and little sit down eatery on the same corner. Luke happened to be the gentlemen in the family helping us, and was super knowledgeable. They let you try everything - the olives, meats, cheese including the olive oil. We tried the spicy sopressata, salami, Asiago and a very special olive oil; and we literally bought everything we tried. To be fair, we were feeding a family of 7. If I could give this place 6 stars I would. Our lunch was amazing!! We will definitely return the next time we are in the city!!

Michelle L.

Yelp
I was walking by Di Palo's in the middle of the afternoon while shopping Soho, Chinatown, and Little Italy. I couldn't not walk in so I did and ended up getting a bit of the salami and green olive cold antipasto salad. It was delicious. Salty from the salami and acidic just like you expect. Fun store to walk around. I wish I could have bought more but since I'm a tourist I really couldn't. Of course I'll be back.

Daniel M.

Yelp
Walked in to get sweet sopressata, prociuto, tomato garlic bread, fresh parpadelle and spicy sopresatta. After having a very interesting conversation with a gentlemen behind the counter (possibly the owner) we cane to the conclusion that we needed 1lb of prociuto toscano. We even got a free sample of the delicate slices of prociuto tuscano. Perhaps $26.99 a pound sounds steep but who can argue with quality and taste when thia stuff tastes so delicious that my mouth waters.. I will come back, not just because of the service and the quality of the food but because this place opens on sundays and they carry a large variety of sausages and hams imported from Italy. Hands down thir bread was so fresh that when i picked up at the store the bread was warm to the touch. Remind you that i travel all the way from Bayside Queens, just to come and pick up Italian groceries here.

Yelp
DiPalo's, or DP for short, is f***ing amazing. Literally. Other Italian sandwiches in NYC really do Palo in comparison to this one. Easily one of the best sandwiches I've ever had... although it's different (but amazing) every time because it's made right in front of your eyes, with "whatever bread they have on the day", and it's made to your specifications. What to get: A sandwich, on whatever bread they recommend, with prosciutto, fresh mozzarella, and other goodies. Porchetta and chicken cutlet are excellent too. Why: Because it's one of the best sandwiches you'll ever eat. I tried to eat here several times when I didn't really have time, plus they run out of Porchetta early. Since then I've figured it out, and have become a regular. I wouldn't say the owner is a Palo mine, but we're on decent terms. Not only do I wonder how people can go to Subway with this sort of sandwich in existence, but how they can go to any regular deli, really. The Italian delis of Hoboken and Jersey City, NJ (Andrea, Fran's, and others) are the all time best anywhere, but Di Palo's is right up there with them. The difference is, there's a very long line, a number system, and you can wait anywhere from 5 min to 1 hour and 5 min. More likely over 30 minutes. Marco Palo actually came here all the way from Italy for an Italian sandwich. That tells you all you need to know. But the sandwich is infinitely worth it, and you can get your number and then come back a bit later if you have other things in the area to do (and there is plenty to do). It's in the worst part of Manhattan for traffic (but it's Manhattan so) and the main guy and some of the employees are a little sarcy (but it's New York so it works), whereas a couple of the girls that have served me have been absolute angels that really set a new standard for Manhattan customer service. So gather up a Palo or two and come and get some sandwiches. Trust me. Get yourself Prosciutto on bread with oil and fresh mozz and whatever else they recommend. It's incredible, it's not even expensive. Fresh made, home made. Try the Chicken Cutlets, the Porchetta, and anything else you fancy. Watch them ring you up on their ancient cash register, and then go out and eat it and be in heaven. Did you know they also started the record label, "Palophone." One of the biggest names in music... and now Italian Delis. I'm confused by the concept of Italian Delis though because I thought Deli was Indian, not Italian. In fact I thought it was the capital. Oh wait, no, the capital of India is "i". Seriously one of the best Italian sandwiches you'll ever eat, and will ruin all other sandwiches for you, except for Fran's and Andrea and the like, in Jersey, which are right up there with DP. Speaking of DP, are you free tonight.

Yelp
I imagine myself living in New York City often. And if I did, I imagine being a regular at Di Palo's. Hopping off the subway at least once a week to pick up fresh charcuterie and cheese to go with my daily glass(es) of wine. Pick a number, wait to be called, and be ready to order. I originally planned to order mozzarella and one salumi, but ended up ordering 4 different cheeses and 4 different salumis. Why? Because while you're standing around, they let you sample whatever the other patrons are purchasing. And literally everything I tried was so amazing. The roasted red peppers are THE BEST. I highly recommend ordering a side. Favorite cheese: parmigiano reggiano is SOOOO good, fresh mozz rolled with proscuitto, truffle burrata. Favorite salumi: sorry I can't remember the names, mainly because I piggy backed orders from the other patrons lol but if it helps, they were ALL amazing. They also have chicken cutlets -- perfect for Chicken Parmesan!! Marinara sauce, and fresh pasta. Can't wait to come back.

Yelp
My family has been long time customers/friends for as long as I can remember. I remember when they were a smaller store which now has grown larger with a wine section too. Di Palo's is a family run business who takes great pride in the quality of their products. I recently went to get the neck of a San Daniele for my mom for her chicken broth. I haven't been to Di Palo's for several years but somehow Louie recognized me and inquired about my mom and family. Louie and his family always gives great recommendations for new items to try from Italy. In fact, they had us trying nutella before it was a regular item in the grocery markets. When I was last a resident here, I would trek down from Harlem to get my weekly serving of fresh ricotta. Sometimes I'd share with friends during a dinner party. Other times, I just ate it over a few breakfast with fruit and honey. Other items I'd get besides prosciutto and cheese, are their various pastas and breaks. One of my favorite treats from them is the chocolate covered figs that they import from Italy each year during the holiday season. Truly a gem of a neighborhood store that has keep up its quality and service to its community.

Yelp
This place is amazing!!!! Definitely come with patience as it can be a lengthy wait. But the wait is totally worth it. Their meats are fantastic, sliced to perfection. We got the prosciutto san daniele and mortadella - so thinly sliced, it just melted in your mouth. We chose several different cheeses. Lou will give you advice on which ones are better than others, even offering a taste. Actually ended up selling us an awesome, funky Piedmontese cheese that was just heavenly. head next door to their wine shop - talk about knowledgable - she knew every single wine in there. Got a bottle of a grape I didn't even know from the Emilia Romagna region that just went perfect with the meats and cheese. Keeping this place on my list for future NYC trips!

Yelp
The best cheese and meats in Lower Manhattan. Di Palo's has been supplying Manhattan with delicacies forever! Family owned shop with helpful and passionate workers. I love their burrata cheese as well as the prosciutto or even prosciutto cotto! You will love this place! Tons of tasty Italian treats available inside. All imported. Be sure to grab a number upon entering, wait for your number to be called. If possible get some samples (if available), you won't regret it! 5 star service and 5 star food quality! Wishing this business all the best!!! Enjoy your visit!
