Be sure to ask the staff for their suggestions. Percy was so helpful and his faves were excellent choices. When trying someone's fried catfish, I always try a hushpuppy first. If the hushpuppies are good, so is the fish. No disappointment here. The fried catfish has the perfect batter, cooked crisp, served hot. I'm sure this will ruin me for all others but the house tarter sauce was the best I've tasted. We also tried the etoufe topped sauteed catfish and it was absolutely delicious. Everything we tasted was hot, enjoyable, and each bite had us quickly sampling from everything on our table. This restaurant is a unique piece of history. Just ask. I'll take extra time to be sure to include return trips any time we are in Shreveport/Bossier City. From two Crowes to the Flying Crow, thank you for the most enjoyable lunch!

Google
Something you have to experience while in Shreveport. Friendly staff, Shrimp Buster was excellent. Be sure to add the slaw and sauce to it. Bread pudding was probably the best I’ve ever had. I’ll be back if I am ever in the area again.

Google
Service was slightly slack. The gumbo was not as good as I remembered, but i should have ordered something different. The fried pickles were salty but good. The onion rings were good but I have had better. Great beer selection!

Google
I had a good friend bring me here for the first time last night. Great food, great atmosphere, lots of history. “Shrimp Buster” was amazing. I would definitely recommend it! I also tried a cup of the “Seafood Gumbo”, it was also excellent. Thanks guys!

Connie W.

Google
Food was excellent! Good sized portions, you definitely get your money's worth. Service was the best; friendly staff, who regularly check in. Small place, but I love it. Overall great atmosphere, good music, and the place is kept very clean. 5 star all the way.

Google
My family and I ate here based on all of the amazing reviews and let me just say, Everyone was right! This place is so amazing! The service was astounding. We felt like we were well taken care of in a homey southern feeling way. Absolutely comfort food and the best etouffee and bread pudding oh my goodness! If you like fried pickles and tartar sauce you are in for a treat! This will be the best you have ever had!

Google
Had the Gumbo and a glass of wine. We had pleasant/immediate service as we arrived & had our choice of seating. The place wasn't crowded at all which was a plus. Soon after that we ordered our food. Restaurant was clean although the menus needed a wipe. The gumbo was delicious BUT I noted breaded okra (my fav) in it which a no no in my book. It tasted good & all in all I'd visit again as I wanted to eat different items but was headed to a late dinner & needed a snack prior to dinner (in a couple hrs).

Kenneth W.

Google
Stopped in based off friends recommendations. Based off all the hype I had to try the Shrimp Buster and onion rings. Onion rings were great, fresh and just the right amount of batter, not too much. Shrimp Buster was good, just didn't wow me the way I thought it would. The bread pudding was awesome! Would like to stop back in and try a few other things that caught my eye on menu. Staff was great!

Yelp
Fantastic fried seafood and po'boys!! Great service and atmosphere. Must sit in the small bar area and look over the history. We always stop in while traveling through Shreveport!

Yelp
This place was a cute little lunch spot. Very packed & cramped but good. Food was mid... I was definitely expecting more but it was alright. Parking was difficult but I also went during lunch on a weekday. Everyone was very friendly. I recommend sitting in the back outside. Would love to watch it rain there!

Mike L.

Yelp
Their shrimp buster plate is way overpriced, and the shrimp is terrible. After all the hype, I am so so so disappointed.. The shrimp has actually no taste whatsoever. Even the french fries are just average. Service also poor. I have no idea what people see in this place.

Yelp
What an authentic step back in time! It's a little like you just stepped into a time capsule! If you can tolerate an old building smell, this place is worth the stop!!! I'm a catfish snob, I have to say this place batter was spot on! Fresh fish, that did not even need a lemon ta'boot! That TARTER, well, let's just say, I dunked my fish, fries & the fluffy breaded onion ring in it!! Well seasoned with fresh onions & herbs!! Mmm mmm... Now I'm not gonna hold back, when some place has bread pudding, it's a guaranteed order for this girl. Whew it was beyond sweet, with that toasty white chocolate icing that had been carefully caramelized by the oven, I could not even finish it!!! The staff was quick, my order accurate and on point!
google avatar

Morgan D.

Yelp
Came from PA for this place and worth it! Beyond incredible food and service! Highly recommend the onion rings and popcorn shrimp! Got the catfish dinner, shrimp poboy and cheeseburger! Go with friends and family so you can sample everyone's meal! All of it is cooked to perfection and portions are excellent! You want authentic Cajun food this is the place! Certainly a time capsule on the inside which makes it extra special and kept the authenticity! Staff went above and beyond, so polite! Checked on us a lot especially for refills of the sweet tea which you'll wanna get! Loved everything about this place! Will certainly come back on my next trip!

Yelp
The shrimp and fries were more than enough. I felt the slaw was not good first of all, and was in a tiny condiment cup. There were like two tiny bites. The sauce for the shrimp was in a tiny condiment cup which you couldn't dip the shrimp in at all. If looking online at prices, know that your bill will be more than expected. We got two shrimp busters to go. No drinks. The bill was over $40. We had not eat there in years. I never remember it being that expensive. Just giving a heads up. We always liked going there. It was a kind of iconic place in Shreveport. I don't think it's worth the money we paid. Was sad about it. We always loved it before.
google avatar

Yelp
I ordered the etouffe for lunch. Being that this is Shreveport and this place had good reviews I was expecting better etouffe! My etouffe was super watery, had no flavor, was pretty much just straight crawfish, water and rice. Weak and will never be back

D'Lynn C.

Yelp
Got the house special that they are known for the Shrimp Buster. The shrimp was tasteless & the onion rings were cold & tough. Waitress however was attentive & nice. Won't be back.
google avatar

Yelp
First off we go here a good bit especially if in Shreveport. Love this place and how long it's been there. Food years ago was AWESOME but it has gone downhill the last few years. It's hit or miss. Last night the food was the worst I have had there and I've been going for 20 years. Gumbo and Shrimp Buster was tasteless. Went with friends who go a lot and it was unanimous. BAD. I'm not sure who is running it now but hope they get a handle on it. Service was good but food just not up to standard. Will we go back. Yes, as we love the place. Just hope it's better.

Yelp
There is really nothing spectacular here - except history and service. Service is outta this world friendly and helpful. The food is good, and the history is rich and beautiful. This is a place that would drive the restaurant make-over crowd crazy - old, a bit dark, lots of old knick-knacks and nostalgia. And a really small dining room (they also have an outdoor seating area). The kind of place they'd say was dirty and depressing. But is not dirty and it is not depressing!! Regardless of what you think about the space, the service cannot be beat. The food is good - mostly. Our fries were a bit cold, onion rings a bit greasy, but the oyster and shrimp po-boy and shrimp buster were perfect! You owe it to yourself to taste and experience this piece of history!

Angela B.

Yelp
I just moved back to Shreveport. I was looking forward to Herby K's for a great meal. I was so disappointed in the Shrimp Buster. Shrimp flattened out to nothing, and no flavor. Service was great! Atmosphere was the same nostalgic feel and clean. Hopefully, they can get their food back up to what it used to be.

Yelp
This is a long-time favorite for some Shreveporters. I've visited twice, maybe thrice. Decades ago, the high-school crowd loved it as a source of beer. (I was not among them.) It's VERY old, which is (I suppose) part of the charm. As "Unkie Moe" might say, it has "a lot of crazy crap on the walls," at least in the enclosed patio. The patio floor was sticky. Service was good and the servers pleasant, especially considering that our sizable group overwhelmed them at lunchtime (they were, of course, warned). Food: meh. The famous Shrimp Buster sandwich doesn't deserve its fame--four large shrimp, butterflied, flattened significantly and with with great violence, battered without notable seasoning, then deep fried and placed on an opened, grilled bun--served with some almost-flavored sauce, one forkful of flavorless Cole slaw, and a hearty serving of decent French Fries. A "Baby Buster" version is available--two shrimp instead of four, for a few dollars less. Crawfish etoufee: more of a thin gravy, no tomatoes. Not unpleasant, but not enticing. The burgers looked good. A very large chef's salad looked good as well. Various fried shrimp items looked good. In all: Herby K's food is more about the memories than the food. The beer is plentiful. But if it's your thing, bon appetit!

Yelp
The Burgers, were really delicious, thick juicy perfectly done. I guess it's the best way to sum it up.. Wife loved it but fell madly in love with the onion rings. I don't normally don't do onion rings, but customer had some and they look good and I tried them, good Lord I was not disappointed at all.. and I love my clear Texas sweet tea, but I have to hand it to them. They beat the heck out of Texas tea. I'll shut up. Y'all just gotta get to this place. It's worth the hunt. FYI. They do have awesome other food.

Karen B.

Yelp
Okay, so don't drive off when you see the building. It's part of the charm. Just go in and see their FULL menu. We had the catfish plate and it was outstanding. Service was top notch and the restaurant is full of memorabilia from years gone by. A great restaurant and one we will definitely eat at again!

blake l.

Yelp
I created a Yelp account just to leave the is review. I paid $20 for something called a Shrimp Buster. It will go down as the worst thing I have ever eaten. I went back to my hotel and had to puke. $10 for a cup of jumbo that was really all rice with a little broth on it. Waiter was really sweet so I'll give two stars for that.
google avatar

Sean K.

Yelp
I was told by two customers that Herb K's was the place to go and to get the Shrimp Buster and it did not disappoint . I sat at the bar, while quaint, you can just take in the history. Should your travels take you through the crossroads of Shreveport, find Herby K's and enjoy!
google avatar

Andrew H.

Yelp
Service was great! Food was lacklustre. Fries and onion rings were practically tasteless, breading was bland as could be. Meat on the burger was delicious. Onion was under ripe so it was detracting from the burger tastes. Once removed, the burger improved substantially. My buddy got a seafood dish and said his didn't fair that well. Breading was bland and overpowering the actual meat. The sauce tasted watered down. Disappointed as this place was highly recommended by so many locals. No hate, but disappointed.

Yelp
We were starving for a quick lunch after helping my cousin move and found this place after a quick Yelp search. First thing we noticed is that the area this place is in is not the most welcoming especially if you're from out of town. Lot's of run down buildings on our way here, but we know some of the best food can be found in unexpected places so I did not lose hope. As we pulled up we were greeted with ample amount of parking, and a cute divey exterior. We walked in to the main entrance and was told to go to the patio side - I have to assume it's because we had 8 people in our group. The patio area was nice and quiet as we were the only ones there. Our server was very nice and polite, but I couldn't help but notice his unclipped and dirty finger nails. I tried to just ignore it since I was ready for some food, had I not been that hungry I probably would have left. Our server recommended the Shrimp Buster as they supposedly are well known for it. My wife got a shrimp po boy. I am sad to report that I was not impressed by their signature dish. It was good, but definitely not something I'd come back for. I also had a bite of the shrimp po boy and still - good but nothing to be very excited about. The onion rings were nice and big, and the fries were decent, probably could've been fried a little longer. Overall, our experience here was not as I expected given the Yelp reviews. As an out of towner, I definitely won't recommend others to come here. It has a very nice divey charm that I'm sure the locals appreciate, just not for me.

Yelp
What a wonderful find off the beaten path. I tried the shrimp buster, which is what Herby-K is famous for and was not disappointed. Great atmosphere and a glimpse of Shreveport history. I highly recommend making the effort to enjoy the cuisine. You won't be disappointed.

Toby P.

Yelp
Shrimpbuster is now mostly all tasteless breading you have to peal off to get to the shrimp. They've changed them used to never be like this. Been going 30 years

Matthew R.

Yelp
I am going to give up going there at night. I brought 2 people with me for dinner and drove all the way across town and they closed over a HOUR early!!! Don't advertise you are open until 9pm if you aren't!
google avatar

Tommy A.

Yelp
Wanted some seafood, thought we found one of those magical hole in the wall places. This wasn't it. I understand this isn't south Louisiana but the places in Shreveport don't seem to season their food. We got the shrimp buster and it was awful. Take a frozen shrimp and flatten it out and fry it along with some unseasoned onion rings. Then get the bill and it's $90, ouch a kick in the nads to pay that much for awful food.
google avatar

Kerry H.

Yelp
We had an oyster po-boy and the fried catfish plate. Huge portions. Perfectly cooked. Prompt friendly service. Two seating areas, but a petite place...so time your visit accordingly. We arrived after 2 pm on a Saturday. Make sure to visit this spot on your next drive through Shreveport!
google avatar

Chris M.

Yelp
Food was great. Service was great. Environment was cool. It may be a while before I can make it back, but I intend to. If I lived in the area, I'd be a regular. 3 of us, who all had the same first thought: the catfish. Glad we did. Every part of the fish & fries, even the dips... Exactly what you hope for. The fried pickles might be the best I've had. I'm usually wary of bread puddings, I don't know why. But I'm glad we got to try the white chocolate bread pudding, it was soooo good. Running on almost 2 hours of sleep I left my card behind unfortunately and can't make it back any time soon. But it was worth it!

Bob S.

Yelp
Had dinner here last week. The place is still the same. More than I could say for the food. The seafood gumbo and étouffée had absolutely no flavor. The shrimp busters were flat and hard as a rock. The oysters were definitely not from our gulf. I have been going to H K's for over 50 years and it's really not where I'm going again.

Bonnie H.

Yelp
They have the Best red beans and rice. The staff make you feel at home. What a hidden gem
google avatar

Jonathan F.

Yelp
Food: 12/10 Service: is always great but, the food is so good that you'll forget anything else. Neat little hole in the wall kinda place. What more do you need to know. It's been open since 1937 and there's good reason.
google avatar

Laiza H.

Yelp
We stopped here during our road trip back to Atlanta from Texas. I found it on Yelp and decided to give it a try. The place looked a little sketchy at first but we trusted the reviews. We were seated right way in their outdoor area. My husband and I shared the Fried Catfish dinner that came with fries, coleslaw and hush puppies. One of our friends got gumbo and the other one got the hamburger steak that comes with sautéed onions, gravy, fries and a salad. Everything was pretty good. A great hearty meal when traveling. Would come back.

Yelp
While I was in town on business, Herby K's was recommended because I was in search local area Louisiana cuisine. First impressions was something I expected having been to New Orleans several times and knew the "Hole in the Wall" joints were the best. Today, I went against recommendations to order the "Shrimp Buster" and choose the Fried Catfish dinner. The fish were good, but I was expecting something with a little kick to it. The fish batter was bland to the tastebuds, lacking that true Louisiana pop. Fries weren't great but weren't awful either. In true southern fashion, I went with sweet ice tea which was a major mistake. I was told the local water has a bad taste which reflected the awful tasting tea. We'll add this dinning experience to lesson learned. The ambiance was what I expected from a Louisiana establishment that's been around as long as it has. The service stands out with genuine southern hospitality. Prices are above par for the quality of food, so you're paying for the service and ambiance.

Yelp
What an amazing local establishment. The food was absolutely amazing, I ordered the shrimp buster sandwich, which consisted of large portions of perfectly fried shrimp along with some homemade onion rings, (best I've ever had). The crust of the fish, and the onion rings was extremely light, but very crunchy and flavorful. There are a few tables and a bar for which you can eat at. Staff is extremely friendly and was willing to answer any questions I had. This is definitely a place you should work into your calendar. If you're ever in Shreveport Louisiana, you will not be disappointed.

Ryan ..

Yelp
100% recommend, wow...absolutely delicious. Did not even notice the sauce until half way done eating. Goodness that will make you wanna slap somebody. The okra was perfect, onion rings amazing, and hush puppies hit the spot(special spicy kick) Also dont forget to get a tshirt!!! Thanks for a great meal (:

Stephanie B.

Yelp
Wow. The service was fantastic! The food was delicious. Best Bloody Mary ever. Shrimp Buster was excellent. We definitely will be coming back.
google avatar

Gary T.

Yelp
Great food!! Friendly staff Had the Gumbo- Delicious. Small and quaint. Would go again for sure.

Daniel C.

Yelp
To say that this is the best cathfish I have ever tasted in my life would be an understatement! If your ever passing through Shreveport, make it an absolute must to stop by and try their cathfish! I promise you will not be dissapointed! You will drive up through an area second guessing if you will be safe in the area but trust me when I tell you the moment you walk in you will like the atmosphere feels like your at someone's house. We sat in the patio made me feel like I was near the swamp! Hands down the best catfish ever! See my my friend Jim!

Randy R.

Yelp
Love this place, I grew up eating there and I just moved back home from Washington State and went there for first time since my return and the food and service was amazing.. going there again soon.

Travis J.

Yelp
I've taken many chances on eating spots that are not so attractive on the outside. I was seriously questioning my decision as I parked my vehicle. Boy am I glad I saw it though. A small cozy little joint that oozes nostalgia. The service was friendly and promptly and the food was on point. Started off with the homemade onion rings made with a flour batty and the local beer 318. Followed it up with Red beans and rice, gumbo, and a shrimp and oyster po boy. Each authentic with great flavor. Last but certainly not least was the white chocolate bread pudding. OMG, straight up slap yo momma good. This joint is easily in my top 5 Cajun spots. Tip: make sure you check the hours of operation, or, better yet, call before you go to confirm hours. You won't be disappointed.

Donna D.

Yelp
Love this place. They have the best onion rings. I had a delicious shrimp salad. The service was wonderful. We enjoyed it very very much.

Kris H.

Yelp
LOVE this place! There's nothing like the Shrimp Buster! We eat here every time we visit Shreveport!

David W.

Yelp
They waited till 1 minute to pickup to inform that they cancelled order - no reason given - horrible experience in town!
google avatar

Butch S.

Yelp
Best damn food hands down. The staff are freaking awesome!! If you don't eat here that is a sin.
google avatar

Ruslan M.

Yelp
People are friendly and the service was great all the drinks tasted like a swamp water and was hard to drink. The place looks like Abandoned house and the food was not good at all. I wouldn't recommend.
google avatar

Theresa E.

Yelp
Indoor seating consists of about 4 booths and 4-5 stools at the bar. It's difficult to get seated inside. Outside has about 4 bench style picnic tables. So chances are you're going to sit next to strangers. Be prepared. These folks are laid back and casual, and not in a hurry. Be prepared to sit and enjoy the company of whoever you are with. We enjoyed the jalapeño app. $7 it was 80% FF, with just a pinch of jalapeño rings. The étouffée $7 tasted bland to me. Mom enjoyed her catfish- smothered and Un smothered with the étouffée cup she ordered. I had the Smokey burger. Add bacon and jalapeño $8 + $2 so good
google avatar

Shelia W.

Yelp
Double hamburger & fries: the burger was dry & overcooked but it came with lettuce, two tomatoes, onions, mustard,& mayo; however 1st & last meal there .
google avatar

Mary S.

Yelp
The food was awful, awful, awful! I love a dive, and it is. A great place to drink beer and listen to music, hopefully The Blues. The service was excellent, the server delightful. None of that made up for the bad food.

Angelus K.

Yelp
Don't make the mistake of skipping over this restaurant. My fiancée and I stopped by on a roadtrip and it was the best choice we made on the trip. We had the gumbo and the étouffée, both were delightful. The entire restaurant leaks with care and culture, something that can also be tasted in the food. Our server, Jim reminded us of how warm and welcoming southern hospitality is. A delicious meal and a soulful experience.
google avatar

Byron N.

Yelp
Definitely a must stop! The history of this establishment is enjoyable to read and the food is excellent. My go to is always the shrimp poboy. And don't forget the fried pickles!

Michelle H.

Yelp
The onion rings were great! Everyone enjoyed their food. Quaint with great service. Highly recommend if you like a different setting than the norm.

Pam M.

Yelp
It was definitely a great place to eat I had the special and omg yum the staff was so nice I'm so glad we got to eat there
