"This strip mall Thai restaurant is a neighborhood favorite for the classics: takeout dinners of saucy pad kee mao, extra-large salad rolls, bright papaya salad, and a handful of curries. For those seeking something a little different from the standards, the restaurant’s red duck curry, pairing smoked duck with pineapple, is a worthy diversion." - Krista Garcia

First night traveling, looked for something close to the hotel and since we do not have much good Asian food near where we live, we decided to try this place. Just in a strip mall, nothing fancy. BUT Great, authentic Thai food. We were in Thailand a few years ago and this was every bit as good. I would stop here again!! Fast service and friendly staff!

Presentation was spot on! The prettiest salad rolls I think I’ve ever seen! Not to mention some of the best! Very shizo forward. I loved the Chinese bbq pork option, with excellent quality bbq. Things here are so well thought out! I loved the iced tea served in quart jars, I really loved the Tom Kah served in the white tin bowls. The Tom Kah was perfect in all respects! Piping hot, spicy, the perfect amount of all the goodies. Really, some of the best I’ve had. After a long day of treasure hunting at yard sales and meeting extraordinary people it was such a pleasure to be served extraordinary food! It completes a perfect day.

Ordered takeout here on a friday at dinner time and they didnt dissappoint! Our food was ready in 15 minutes despite them also having a pacled dining room, portions were generous, and the food was delicious and perfectly spiced! They didnt skimp on the veggies and are easily accessible to the hotels in the pdx area. Highly recommend!

Probably the best Thai food I’ve had in my life. It’s such a hidden gem of a restaurant. Service was great, portions and food was fantastic!

Ken was our server, he did a great job. I started off with Thai Iced Tea. The Spicy Chicken Salad came next and it was delicious. Mussaman chicken curry hit the spot. BBQ Pork Fried Rice was excellent. It's a very light rice dish with thinly cut bbq pork. I didn't have room for the fried bananas. Next time! Recommended

Google
That was the best Thai we have had in a long time. All the veggies in the dishes were fresh and the flavors/spices were delicious! Highly recommend.

Google
Excellent place for Thai food. Really liked their mussaman curry and pad kee mow. Value for money place. Service and hospitality was great. If you are staying next to Portland airport definitely a must try place.

The Friendly Village is an unassuming strip mall on Sandy Blvd with one of the best little Thai restaurants in Portland. We ordered chicken potstickers, larb with chicken, barbecue pork fried rice, and Lao style papaya salad with sticky rice. The vegetables were fresh. The seasoning for every dish was perfect. Service was fast even with a steady stream of folks stopping in for takeout orders. Lots of vegetarian and gluten free options on the menu.

Yelp
My all time favorite thai restaurant, tucked away in a small neighborhood so its a very if you know you know spot. Friendly staff and they recognize me whenever I dine in lol. Food never take too long to come out and the server always check up on you. Ive tried many of their dishes but my favorite are: Stir fry egg plant with tofu, I will always order this whenever I come, this dish is saucy and come with lots of veggies goes so well with hot white rice thats provided. Highly recommend getting this dish if you want to try something different! Papaya Salad- so fresh and crunchy not overly fishy I always get medium spice and that's considered spicy but i think it's a perfect spice level. Pad see ew- stir fry soy sauce noodle and is perfectly chewy I'd take this over pad thai any day. Panang curry is not your typical curry the kaffir lime leaves really oomph up the flavor, its savory limey slightly sweet with a hint of coconut very well balanced soooo good on a cold day with hot rice. Salt & pepper Calamari - There was more breading than the squid itself, it was crunchy but very greasy like oil dripping greasy so this is a pass for me. Crab Puffs- can be a hit or miss sometimes I don't really mind it. They also have chef special menu and it changes occasionally I think. I highly recommend checking Sabai Thai out whenever you're in the area they have reasonable price and good comfort food!

Yelp
In town for a minute and yelped our way to this Thai restaurant by reading the reviews. It was around 6pm on a weekend, cooks matter. We had spicy 4 Shrimp Pad Thai, spicy 3 Yellow Curry, and Shrimp Salad Rolls w/peanut sauce. The best Thai in OR thus far. We used DD and cannot speak to ambiance. I can say they did a superior job filling the order as ordered because we've all experienced issues with the little things with delivery services, yes? Spice levels were perfect as post-COVID spice is about all I can taste and it was tasty, and no Gastro issues later which impressed me! It was more tasty, when reheated by pan, the following day. Things were packaged well, stacked well in the sack not sliding or tipping over, semi-climate friendly packaging (it's recyclable, still fossil fuel though), and the presentation on arrival by delivery was attractive. Customer service and attention to detail is superior. I would recommend this vendor and would like to eat-in sometime in the future.

Yelp
Great Thai food! I had Salad Rolls (with BBQ pork) and Pad Kee Mao with seafood combo (Thai Hot)! The drunken noodle was spicy and it packed with lots of protein! The service was a little bit slow since it was a full house.

Yelp
All of the five star reviews are correct about this restaurant. My wife and I think this is some of the best Thai we have eaten. It is a small restaurant in a strip shopping center. We arrived at 6:30 on a Friday night and had a table. Five minutes later people were waiting. We started with the egg rolls. Perfectly fried and hot. I ordered Thai basil fried rice medium spice with chicken and my wife Thai basil stir fry with pork. My dish was perfectly spiced a little hot loaded with chicken and veggies. My wife got her dish mild loaded with vegetables and juicy pork. Both of us savored our meal. Waiter was extremely nice. Excellent dining experience.

Yelp
Terrible, calous and rude staff. We went to this place as a party of nine for lunch after noticing the higher than average rating on Yelp. Upon arrival we were informed we would have to spilt up since they didn't have seating for 9 at the time. We were fine with it. After getting seated at two separate tables, the main server came to our table and started off with 'just so you know our cooks are busy, there will be 15 to 20 minutes wait for everything on the menu'. It seemed odd that he wouldn't say that upon seating us. Moreover, he just stood there with a blank stare on his face after making that statement. In hindsight, perhaps he just wanted us to leave or was upset about something else and just did not care about customer service. We were fine with that strange getting statement as well and started ordering. He kept on interrupting us, rushing us, being curt and impatient. We got thru putting in most of the order for our table in expect my wife's who asked him about the Salmon, he asked her to just read the menu in a condescending manner. And, while she was doing that, he just rudely announced - take your time, I will pause your order and left to go stand behind his counter. I am very patient and easy going at restaurants, and don't expect much for service, but this person acted like he was burdened by us being there and made it known from the beginning. After this unprofessional behavior, we did not want to stay any longer. As we stood up to leave, not a single staff member made an attempt to even ask us what happened. This shows their level of customer service and professionalism. I am sure you can find good, maybe even better food at other places with certainly much more decent human beings serving them- just like we did after walking out from there.

Yelp
Had dinner a Sa Bai Thai Cuisine yesterday evening. So delicious! We had several people in our party. We ordered Tom Ka soup, one with tofu and one with chicken. Both excellent but they tasted quite different from one another. We loved that! The chicken had large wedged of tomato and the tofu had more cabbage. We also ordered Pad Thai, Green Curry, Stir Fried Garlic (basically a very garlicky stir fry of various veggies and the evening special, Khao Soi. All were excellent! This little restaurant on a strip mall gave us delicious food and excellent service. They were even accommodating with our 2 year old. We will be back!

Vivian D.

Yelp
We ordered take-out salad rolls, green papaya salad, egg rolls and drunken noodles with chicken. The ingredients are fresh and cooked perfectly. I live in Los Angeles and have tasted different styles of Thai food from very spicy to very sweet. My seasoning preference is generally mild. The dishes we ordered from Sa Bai Thai were all well-prepared and perfectly seasoned. The salad rolls and green papaya salad being refreshing for a hot summer day. The drunken noodles made with rice noodle sheets and not too sweet, salty or spicy; and the vegetables cooked and still crisp. The egg rolls were fresh and deliciously crisp. We look forward to trying their curry and glass noodle dishes next time.

Linda B.

Yelp
Visiting from California. The best egg rolls I've had in a very long time. Not greasy at all. The pad Thai was excellent too. I liked how the waiter explained the heat level- he said "mild is like medium" so we ordered mild and it was just enough heat.

Rudy D.

Yelp
Ordered the appetizer combo and Pad Thai Noodles with chicken (medium). Food was really good. Though it was just me and my daughter, thought we might need more food. It was plenty. Service was good and food brought out quickly.

Jackie G.

Yelp
10000000/10. I will ALWAYS recommend Sa Bai Thai if asked about Thai food in the area. This truly has to be some of the best Thai food I have ever had. We found Sa Bai Thai while I was scrolling Yelp, the reviews were fantastic so we gave it a shot. Now, this is our regular Thai spot. We have eaten inside and taken it to go and every single time it is easily a 10/10. Every single dish I have gotten here has been outstanding. The prices are fantastic (imo) for the portion, quality, and taste and frankly, I'd probably pay more. Today we went in around 2 o'clock. It was a seat yourself day, and there were a handful of tables already spoken for. The service was fantastic as usual throughout our entire meal. We tried the combo appetizer because we couldn't decide on a specific starter and I am SO glad we did. It comes with a salad roll cut in half (10/10), two egg rolls (10/10), two crab puffs (12/10), two chicken satay (8/10), and two shrimp in the blanket (10/10) all served with thai peanut sauce (10/10), cucumber sauce (10/10) and sweet and sour sauce (10/10) all for $15.50. Everything was absolutely delicious but my favorite were the crab puffs. They are sooooooo flavorful & the crab to cream cheese ratio is sheer perfection. We split the Tom Kah soup and it is a home run every time. The aromatics from the lemongrass and ginger come through with every spoonful without being overpowering. We get it with tofu and it soaks up the broth just perfectly while still maintaining its texture. It's filled with veggies too, which we love. Now, to the show stopper... The pad see ew. We always get chicken and we always get extra noods. This dish is actual perfection. The noodles are super sauced up in the most flavorful, delicious, dark sauce and this dish is filled with veggies. The egg is always cooked well too, which I love. The portions are massive so we leave with a nice little goodie bag of leftovers. Not only is the food great left over but so is the Thai tea! It's $5 for the largest glass of Thai ice tea you will ever see. I drink about half and when filling up my to go cup with the rest, it fills to the top. It's delicious, not too sweet & the perfect addition to any entree. We frequently just stop by for Thai teas after our Costco trips. The parking lot is large so parking has never been an issue for us. All in all. This is a true hidden gem that should be on everyone's must try list!

A G.

Yelp
Great place for authentic Thai food. All of the currys are excellent. I can't stop eating the salt and pepper calamari! Hidden in a strip mall just off Sandy Blvd.

Cheryl L.

Yelp
BAI the way, this place is a hidden gem! A family-run restaurant with lots of great Thai food! We were shopping at Costco and got hungry. This was the first place that popped up on Yelp and everyone had glowing 5-star reviews. Now I know why... We ordered two specials on the board: Tom Yum Noodle- 5/5 - bright and warm on a cold day. Khao Soi- 5/5 - I'm a Khao soi addict and it was really, really good! It is not always on the Thai menus so I was so glad it was there. Location is a bit sketchy in a desolate strip mall. But don't let that stop you. It is all about the food. Service was good but I had to remind the server about our Thai Ice tea. Most of the orders were takeout and were very plentiful during dinner time so plan accordingly.

Ken W.

Yelp
Best Thai food I have ever had!!! We were shopping at Costco and I searched nearby restaurants and saw this highly rated restaurant and gave it a try.......seriously amazing food We had Salad rolls - amazing Salt and pepper calamari - super duper amazing Thai eggplant with chicken - crazy dope Asparagus with chicken - giga fresh For reealzzzzzzzz this place is the BOMB!!!

Gayle W.

Yelp
The Best Thai! Loved the Larb, loved it all. You would not expect this placw to be so good, but it is the best!

James W.

Yelp
Best Thai food!!! Have NEVER had a bad meal. So incredible!!! She is an absolute incredible cook!!! We will always come here first!!

Nicole M.

Yelp
The food here is fresh, bursting with flavor. Tom Kha soup was filled with fresh herbs, roots and vegetables. Pad Thai was the perfect blend of spicy and sweet. We live in Tualatin (30 min away) and love this place!

Diane B.

Yelp
The pad Thai was absolutely delicious! It was so flavorful and had lots of chicken and was the best I've had in a very long time! Will be back every time we are in this area. Highly recommend! The service was also very good. Not great on atmosphere- but who cares with food this good!

Mehdi A.

Yelp
We were in the area and decided to stop by at Sa Bai Thai due to its good reviews, and I'm glad we tried it! The location is an unassuming strip mall on the outside but inside it had a comfortable and welcoming atmosphere. The service staff was very friendly and accommodating, and we didn't have to wait long for our food. The salad rolls were delicious, made with fresh veggies and tasty tofu and served with a savory peanut sauce which had just a little bit of spiciness to it. The Thai Red Curry was flavorful, with plenty of chicken, Thai and Chinese eggplants, Bamboo shoots and red and green pepper slices. The sauce was savory and not too "liquidy", with just the right consistency and flavor. The portion sizes were good and the price was very reasonable. This won't be our last time here... there are too many items on the menu we want to I'm definitely going back again, as there are lots of dishes on the menu that I will want to try!

Jay H.

Yelp
Smallish place tucked away in a grungy looking strip mall. Not at all pretentious. That was an evening when we felt like take out instead of in-person. The place was mostly full and our take out was ready in the time they indicated. The staff was friendly and helpful. Even though I waited for barely a few minutes, at least three people asked if I was helped. Very delicious and typical Thai food. Will be back again and in person.

Diane K.

Yelp
Friendly attentive service, good food, clean little cozy spot. Reaclimate after Costco

Alesya G.

Yelp
Everything was very good! Decor was bland and service could be friendlier but food tasted good!

Baron B.

Yelp
Great food. Very nice staff, awesome service. Try the pad prik king! Absolutely fantastic.

Yasmin S.

Yelp
Love this place. I discovered it a few years ago since It is so close to my house. My go to is the pad see ew with chicken, and a lemonade thai tea. Be wary that their spiciness levels are actually spicy so I recommended going for a lower number than you typically do at Thai restaurants. The food is always super fresh as well, and the service is fast. Will be back!

Andrew N.

Yelp
I was excited to try Sa Bai Thai give all the positive reviews and love Thai cuisine. We had an inattentive waiter for a not so busy lunch hour. Food was just ok nothing to write home about and had an upset stomach for the rest of the day. Wish it was better.

Rachel J.

Yelp
just go here it's genuinely so good I could eat it for the rest of my life every meal

Eric H.

Yelp
Place is unassuming from the outside and is not really fancy on the inside but most dishes were very good. The Thai beef salad was our group's favorite. I would definitely come back when back in town.

Andrew S.

Yelp
Little hole in the wall Thai restaurant. Ambience was OK - no art or decor on the wall. Food was excellent, had a delicious green curry & pad prik king. They don't serve alcohol, so that might be a plus or minus for you. Worth going, but not for a special occasion.

Anallyn K.

Yelp
This restaurant serves good Thai food at a reasonable price, with good portions and friendly staff. The pad see ew was particularly good, with far more vegetables. A great family-run place that we love to support!

Sonam S.

Yelp
It was a long day at work and My partner and I wanted to eat Thai food. I found this Thai restaurant and I was very excited to enjoy my food. I got basil fried rice and Pad Thai. I ate the food the price of the food was pricy for the amount of food. The food was not really good. But I only enjoyed their mango rice dessert from this place.

Rachael B.

Yelp
So good! Attentive. Yummy. Cozy but not crowded. Tom Kah and basil stir Fry. Only complaint, now mind you this is common everywhere except my hometown, I do not share rice. If I'm going to be spending $40 I want two orders of rice. That's one per order it comes with. Thank youv

Vanessa A. M.

Yelp
Pad Thai here is absolutely amazing. I've tried others but nothing compares to Sa Bai Thai quality. This is always my go to restaurant. It's a hidden little treasure that's cozy to dine in with family and friends. The service is wonderful.

Jon G.

Yelp
We we'e looking for a warm meal tonight that was near our hotel. This place came highly recommended by the front desk staff. Restaurant is located in a strip mall. Very clean in the dining area and also in the bathroom. No off odors. Steady stream of people picking up food or being seated. Many people near us we're overhead saying how much they enjoyed the food. We had veggie spring rolls, egg rolls and a very yummy yellow curry with chicken, green and red peppers with onions. Sauce was very tasty. We could not think of a better Thai meal we've eaten. This was enough to share for two of us with no leftovers. This is near enough to Portland International Airport that my wife and I plan to come early and eat here when we're picking up someone flying in.

Bruce C.

Yelp
The Pad Thai at Sa Bai was good but not necessarily the best I've had. The Pad See Ew that my wife had wasn't good. The flavor was absent and the noodles were sticky. The service was adequate. The good news is that Portland has many Thai restaurants to choose from, so you have options.

Kathy S.

Yelp
We really enjoyed the takeout order. Very fresh food & so tasty! Polite service. Restaurant appeared neat & tidy.

Daphne S.

Yelp
Sa bai Thai has the best Thai food I've ever had. Their owners and staff are so incredibly kind. The food always is extremely good and consistent. I wish they had Thai fish cakes but there's only so much a restaurant can have. I love their pad Thai, spicy seafood salad, massaman curry, calamari, sa bai Thai fried rice, Thai tea, and many more!! My family comes for every birthday and special event.

Kellen C.

Yelp
We just happened to stumble onto this place and in so glad. We had the Tom kah gai and their drunken noodles. The soup was so delightful and the noodles were cooked to perfection!

Katarina R.

Yelp
My husband and I traveled from Los Angeles to spend some time in Portland and we were craving some good Asian food that we missed from home. We found this place close by and we were so impressed with the food! My husband ordered chicken Pad Thai (and demolished the plate. He practically licked it clean) "it was full of flavor and piping hot. Perfect food to eat after our long hike. Honestly, it was so fiyaaahh" I ordered the Tom Yum and it was spicy, sour and delicious. Completely answered the cravings and we feel refreshed!

John S.

Yelp
Sa Ba Thai never disappoints! Tried the Thai Ginger Chicken this time; what a treat! Tastebuds stimulated!

Ernie L.

Yelp
My coworkers are obsessed with this place so I've been here 3 times in the least 3 weeks. I've had the drunken noodle twice and the panang curry once as well as spring rolls and various other apps. The drunken noodle is very good and everything I've had here is fresh and absolutely delicious. I'm going to say something extreme and I'm not joking, the panang curry was one of the best curries I've had in my life. I promise you... I've had a lot of panang curry. 10/10, order that shit.

Bea B.

Yelp
One of the very best Thai places I have had. The veggie spring rolls are a must have. Everything else was fresh, and so delicious that we're back for round two on our 4 day trip.

Jordi H.

Yelp
Yummy!!! Food is great!! Service is super friendly!! Super convenient for me, walking distance home

Jessica N.

Yelp
Spice level was legit. I will return. Fast service, large portions and heat!!! Number of daily specials as well as extensive menu.

Youa M.

Yelp
I've been here twice and the food is authentic and sooo good. I found a new Thai place I love for sure. I'm looking forward to going back and trying other dishes.

Shelley G.

Yelp
Looking for good, authentic Thai food? Then visit Sa Bai! The restaurant is small, but our meals were delicious! (Looks like they do a good take out business). I had the Basil Stir fry with chicken. Since I have a shellfish allergy I have to be cautious of fish or oyster sauces. They were able to leave it out and the dish was still very flavorful. Veggies were perfect...on the crunchy side. I ate every green bean in the dish because they were so tasty. We also had ground chicken Larb and Pad Thai. I wasn't able to eat the Pad Thai, but others really enjoyed it.

Sal M.

Yelp
I will warn you now, just order the mild, the hot is extremely hot and I thought I enjoyed spicy food, I was wrong, my whole mouth was spiced up, made me have sweat and a runny nose, but the food was delicious. They offer mild, hot and Thai hot, so watch yourself on what level you order your food. Had pad see ew and it was pretty good, pineapple rice and that was so good, cashews were big and the pineapple was a nice touch. Also tried their combination appetizer which arrived with a Salad Roll, Egg Rolls , Crab Puffs, Chicken Satays, and Shrimp in the Blankets. All tasted great.

Eric M.

Yelp
Great noodles and curry. Served order quickly. Friendly folk. We stopped here on the road.

Wendi W.

Yelp
Unassuming little place in an older strip mall but don't let that fool you, the food is delicious! People working there are really nice as well. We had the Pad Thai and garlic both with tofu and they made them for us without fish sauce. Yup...yum. It's been awhile since we've been and we definitely won't let that much time pass until we go again.

Kalo G.

Yelp
Best Thai place in Multnomah County. The service is friendly, and accommodating. The actual area it's in isn't great that being said though the actual inside of the restaurant is really nice and comfortable. The food is amazing so flavorful. Just keep in mind that the spice levels are pretty intense.

Nicole Z.

Yelp
Grabbed to-go while I spent the night at an airport hotel. Ordered a smorgasbord- the VEGETABLE TEMPURA (named something else but this is what it is) was super good! You get a huge portion and wide variety of vegetables- great value. DRUNKEN NOODLES, ordered mild were still slightly spicy so beware if spice is an issue for you. The chicken was cooked perfect, as were the noodles, not too mushy which is always a peeve. This is also came with a good amount of vegetables, would have liked a few more noodles. Lastly, had the MANGO STICKY RICE dessert, overall good but the rice was a tad too salty. Very happy- would recommend this to folks in the area!
