The Best Restaurants in Portland’s Beaumont-Wilshire Neighborhood | Eater Portland

"Sour-spicy-sweet Thai food — loaded with carbs and protein — is hard to beat as a drinking companion, a prospect at the core of Bang Bang’s Thai-ish enterprise. Pair appetizers like the cauliflower and pineapple crunchy salad with an Italian sauvignon blanc, or match a pork belly fried rice bowl with one of the smoky mezcal cocktails. Groups will enjoy splitting plates of skewers, including short rib, prawn, and tofu, and sober folks can sip on tasty shrubs, Thai iced tea, or bottle soft drinks. The interior décor is a tad utilitarian, so opt for the spacious patio seating if the weather allows." - Nathan Williams

Portland’s Legit Late-Night Happy Hours | Eater Portland

"A chic, modernist little spot with vibrant paintings set against stark whites and blacks, Bang Bang runs a happy hour from 9:30 p.m. each night until midnight. Then, visitors can find drink specials like $7 house wines, $6 G&Ts and a solid $8 old fashioned, as well as a Miller High Life and Fernet combo for $8. The happy hour doesn’t slack on food specials, either: Fremont regulars find a variety of Thai skewers for $2 to $3, a heaping plate of curry fries with fried chicken bits and a silky egg for $14, and some of the city’s best sweet soy wings for $7." - Alex Frane

Google
Wonderful meal! Shared fresh rolls, pad kee mao, massaman curry, and pad phed eggplant (with extra eggplant) with my family. We forgot to take any pictures, but I promise you’ll love these dishes. Prices are great and service was very friendly. We also got mango sticky rice to top it off!

Google
This place was such an unexpected treat! The food, service, atmosphere were all wonderful. Everyone is so kind and you can taste the love in the food. We had to go back the next day 💕✨️ Kop Khun Ka! 🙏

Google
Friendly service & great prices. Everything including the red duck curry was delicious!

Google
Super charming neighborhood spot with sweet family business vibes. Good papaya salad, okay pad see ew, godawful pad Thai. Not sure if they forgot all of the ingredients except the sugary ones in the pad thai sauce, but it just tasted like rice noodles in simple syrup with a few little tofu cubes and some egg fragments fried in too-hot grease. Papaya salad had plenty of delicious whole peanuts, so I’m not sure what the disconnect was there between dishes. And the salad rolls did have a decent peanut sauce for dipping! Disappointed in the pad thai and honestly confused by it.

Google
just left here and the beef & broccoli 🥦 was wonderful 😊 The welcome is very much felt and the food is flavorful but could be spicier and please don't skimp on chicken when the meal is sold as the main protein. because that is all the chicken in the picture.

Google
We stopped for mango sticky rice and banana delight. The dessert was very tasty but the service was even better!

Google
Very good authentic Thai food, I had chicken cashew nut. And very nice owner, 100% recommend!

Google
I went there after work after a stressful day and I am so glad I did! The service was super friendly and fast! The food was amazing! We had the peanut lover, pad Thai, the fresh rolls and some Thai donuts for dessert!! The donuts were out of this world! Definitely don’t pass up dessert here! We will be going back to try the orange tofu and the curry next!

Yelp
We stayed in town for couple days and we came here for light dinner recently. We ordered papaya salad & Tom yum goong and Thai ice tea, wow it was super delicious ! I would say that this was one of the best Thai food in Portland! Service was excellent, nice soft music in the backyard, family friendly and we loved it! We will definitely comeback for more in the future ! Thank you Sabiang Thai!

Yelp
I love this lil local place. The people who own the place are so kind and nice it makes me want to frequent them more often. Not like I need an excuse to eat Thai food. I like to get the mixed veggie stir fry with chicken, hubs gets the Pad Thai and my daughter always orders the Basil friend rice with tofu. Sometimes when I order they add these lil extras of the mango sticky rice for dessert! This lil touch makes me love them because I think it is a special lil extra. I had never even tried it before. Also worth noting, their prices are really reasonable, there was another Thai place locally I used to frequent but their prices have recently gone up and a lot and this is defintely more budget friendly.

Yelp
I'm not an expert on Thai food, but I know what tastes good and is fresh. We've been a few times and have never been disappointed. Two days ago we had PAD KA PRAOW and PAD KHING, both with chicken. The pad ka praow was amazing. The chili sauce was delicious. The veggies were cooked perfectly, too. Chicken tender. The black mushrooms and garlic were transcendent in the pad khing. The woman at the front who waited on us was so sweet, funny, and charming. The place has a beautiful family vibe. The "artwork" and notes on the tabletops adds to the homey experience. Excellent place to go in the neighborhood.

Yelp
The service was amazing along with the food! We had Pad Thai with amazing flavor, along side the potstickers that was so fresh! For dessert we ordered the mango sticky rice and couldn't have been happier, a must go!

Yelp
The pad that was ok, the yelliw curry was great - medium spicing was perfect for me. However I find the spring rolls to be very overcooked. I threw them away. They were gross. Not sure if you've ever had overcooked cabbage, but yuck!!
google avatar

Sofia R.

Yelp
I would only come back for the spring rolls, other than that the food is way to salty! Did not taste right. The mangoes tasted bad, and the rice was undercooked. There was ants on the table but I paid for it all, because it is a family business. Customer was good, very nice, the food has been lacking quality that I've seen from other Thai places. They need to clean the restaurant ir remodel.

B M.

Yelp
Sooooooooooooooooo gooooooooooood!!!!! Tai noodle soup was good, I eat here all the time. Cute cat is front.
google avatar

Jason D.

Yelp
It was so tasty. Had the pad see ew chicken spicy. Best I've had in Portland so far thumbs up. Also they were really nice here. Two thumbs up!

Penny W.

Yelp
Most certainly the best Thai food in NE Portland. Food is wonderfully flavored. And staff are friendly and accommodating. Very warm atmosphere as well.

Zac G.

Yelp
probably the worst pad Thai I've ever had, and by far the worst fresh rolls, the rolls were tiny, and mostly iceberg lettuce. I ordered the hottest pad Thai they had and it was bland and mushy. So be lost my appetite and am super bummed to have spent so much money on bad food. I was really hoping I'd have a favorite Thai place since I live close. at least the people there were friendly. Would not recommend, most likely throwing my food away. Ordered a beer and it wasn't even cold :(
google avatar

Deborah M.

Yelp
Some of the best Thai food I've had since Pok Pok! The owners and workers are so gracious, charming, kind and intuitively helpful! I highly recommend Sabiang both for dining in and takeout...oh and definitely get an order of 'Mango Sticky Rice' for desert...it's delicious!! This is a small, family owned business, so let's support them and their wonderful restaurant!
google avatar

Yelp
I rarely give negative reviews but I was unfortunately really disappointed in my dinner from this restaurant. I ordered the Chicken pad Thai and shrimp salad rolls. The salad rolls were both small and had 2 tiny pieces of flavorless shrimp. The peanut sauce was weirdly over sweet and not in a good way. I've never disliked peanut sauce from a Thai place. Unfortunately the pad Thai was not great either. It wasn't very flavorful and tasted as good as the time I tried to home make pad Thai. This was honestly the worst pad Thai I have ever had from a restaurant. Not to mention the portion was small (Photo Attached) and it was 13.95 which is on the higher price range for pad Thai. I'm really disappointed in this place as I live nearby and was hoping it would become my new go to Thai spot.

Yelp
*** NEW RESTAURANT, Any reviews before March 28, 2020 are for Tuk Tuk. I feel bad for the nice owners as they opened a new business during a frickin' pandemic. Sabiang Thai is a welcomed addition to the neighborhood and definitely a refreshing upgrade from the former Thai restaurant that occupied the space for years. Their price points are fair, there's some real value on the extensive menu. I'm usually not a huge curry fan, but the puffs are a winner. They don't taste like their Indian or Malaysian counterpart, they're pillow-soft and bursting with flavor. The Thai Ice Coffee is a deal and tastes much better than what you get elswehere. I look forward to when the Stay at Home restriction is lifted so we can experience dining in their asthetically pleasing interior. I'll update as I work the menu.

Yelp
Always great, fresh tasting, Thai food. It's become our go- to for nights we don't feel like cooking.

R K.

Yelp
This place is amazing. Amazing fried wontons, basil fried rice, pad see ew, and curry. Can't go wrong with this place!

Johnaishia L.

Yelp
You pay 20 dollars darn near for shrimp n get 5. The rice was mushy n tasted old. The lady at the desk was nice but kinda was stand-off ish. Idc about that my issues was I paid extra and key got five shrimp and mushy rice.

Yelp
Very good Thai food with a wide and impressive range of menu offerings. Now beginning to take orders at 4:00 p.m., Sabiang Thai is a strong addition to the NE Fremont restaurant scene. On our most recent visit we sampled several items, with the curry puffs (mildly spiced curried chicken and potato in deep fried pastry) leading the pack as everyone's favorite. The puffs are a true go-to item and something we'll order every time we carry out. We also tried the pad pet eggplant, the cashew nut stir-fry, the excellent pad woon sen (clear noodles with yellow and green onions, cabbage, broccoli, carrots, tomatoes, and egg), and the duck noodle soup. All quite good and affordable given that Sabiang Thai has a happy-hour special -- order three entrees and get a fourth free. Our carry-out was ready right on time, with super-polite service and ideal packaging. We look forward to diving more deeply into their menu, sampling more of the curries and salads and Sabiang specials, and likely doubling our order of the delicous curry puffs.

Yelp
LOVE THIS PLACE!!! Came in for a to go order of pad see ew and was not disappointed. It was so saucy, great portion size, and fully loaded with all of its ingredients. Our server was so kind and the food was ready very fast. I definitely recommend this place and can't wait to go back!!!

Yelp
Delicious Thai food and the owners are super sweet! We got their carry out and it was delicious and filling. We tried the pad Thai, pad see ew, fried shrimp with tamarind sauce and green curry. All of it was delicious. The slight sweet and tangy dishes were a hit. I asked for medium and it was spicy enough for this spicy girl. I do think pad Thai might have gotten a little stuck together in the container but heated deliciously next day. My children never had Thai food probably because I got burnt out on Thai in Chicago. The green curry had delicious veggies (got to love that eggplant) and so yummy! That might have been my favorite. I definitely will be back and hopefully get to try it in their newly decorated dining room. You guys rock and keep up the good food!!

Yelp
My partner and I have ordered from Sabiang Thai twice in the past month and we've thoroughly enjoyed our meals. I have to admit I was a little confused who I was ordering from until I realized this place is relatively new in the old TukTuk location. I LOVE the Sukothai soup and the Curry Puffs. The puffs are flaky and buttery with a not-too-overpowering chicken and curry filling. Totes YUM! Do I feel guilty after eating them as an appetizer? Hell, no!! The soup was very tasty with ground pork, rice noodles and a light broth I tried my partner's Pad Thai; he loved it and I thought it was a little dry. I guess that's one of the dangers of ordering a noodle dish as take-out or delivery. Also, Pad Thai from this place most assuredly results In leftovers. We weighed ours... 3.6 pounds of noodles and chicken! That's enough to feed an entire family of 4!

Zachary B.

Yelp
This was among the weakest thai I've ever tasted. They clearly overcrowd their pans/woks leading to meat which has a tough, boiled consistency. There is no caramelization or color to any of the vegetables. The sauces are so week they're practically just salty sweet water. Maybe if they were 20% cheaper it might be worth the low quality but in a city that's bursting at the seams with amazing thai places, i can think of no reason to eat here. My advice to sabiang thai: pre roast your vegetables to increase flavor and reduce water content, turn up your stoves to reduce overcrowding and pooling. Use more fish sauce and pre simmer your sauces to reduce them. Finally velvet your meat or dredge in a deep fryer to increase flavor and cut down on loss of moisture in the meat.

Yelp
Sabiang Thai has fantastic takeout timing; ordered and picked up in less than 30 min. The basil fried rice actually tasted like basil, and the portion size was a enough for two people easily. I did mild spice (they do none, mild, medium, high and Thai spicy), it was perfect. Spring rolls were good, sticky rice and mangos delicious. Try it out! During covid they're only doing take out or delivery....go support them!

Laney K.

Yelp
Portions are small, ordered yellow curry with chicken. It should have vegetables not barely any. The pad se ew was very salty and lacking in broccoli. Twice disappointed.

I Am P.

Yelp
Oh yes!!! Our first time here, we had P3 and P21, so delicious! Had the crab puffs as an appetizer too! Wonderfully fresh, tasty and hot! We will return!!!
google avatar

Allan G.

Yelp
Had the pork fried rice and panang curry with chicken. Both very solid dishes and wouldn't hesitate to order again.

Yelp
Best Thai food I've ever had in Portland (4 years of trying different places, I don't know everything but I say it's really flipping good.) curry puff pastry: 5/5 crab rangoons: 5/5 tofu phad Thai mild: 5/5 chicken phad Thai mild: 4/5 - chicken was pretty dry These are my GoTo orders, except the chicken, just because me and my man know it'll be good. If you have a different Thai place that knocked your socks off, hit me up. Also, this is based off of delivery, which gets to you pretty quickly after ordering. &thai food

Yelp
The green curry was exceptional. The flavor was nuanced and layered and delicious. I will be back for more!
google avatar

Christina L.

Yelp
Fabulous food, great service, calm and clean atmosphere. Found this by chance and we were so pleased.
google avatar

Leslie M.

Yelp
They've been getting orders wrong a lot lately. Nor ice with eggplant dishes. Dishes with missing complements like chicken. No side or a half-missing side in an open box. Unacceptable y'all. What are they doing? And Grubhub isn't a good app for refunds so I'm wasting TONS of money on delivery and tip but for what?! They've gotten really unreliable in the past few weeks. I'm not ordering from here anymore.
google avatar

Amber T.

Yelp
We ordered 4 items totaling around $59 for take away. Perhaps the chef confused sugar with salt on this order but three of our dishes were so sweet we ended up dumping it all in the trash in favor of top-ramen. The forth dish having no sugar had a nice consistency, but the sugar from the other dishes over powered it too resulting in a bland egg noodle platter. We had high hopes for this restaurant given its great reviews. Alas our first experience will not constitute a second attempt. 1. Yellow Curry chicken (pure sugar) 2. Pad Thai Chicken (super sugared) 3. Orange Chicken (No Orange, just sugar) 4. Egg Noodle Dinner (decent)

Yelp
I was excited to try this new place but disappointed at how terrible the food turned out. Fried rice is soggy and plain. I won't come back or recommend this place. Go to Cha ba Thai on Sandy or red onion on 23rd for authentic Thai food.
google avatar

Marlena R.

Yelp
Such fast service, flavors were tasty (not bland but not insane). I love Thai food and am always looking for new spots to try and this place did not let me down! Will for sure be coming back. Some of the best spring rolls I've had in the area!
google avatar

Melissa E.

Yelp
One of my fav Thai locations in town. Super friendly staff and excellent menu variety. From crisp appetizers to curries to pad Thai, their menu has you covered. Most recently I tried the soft shell crab fried rice. Pretty unique eating experience....it was good!

Maddie B.

Yelp
EDIT: I just opened into the satay and found out it was raw. WILL NOT BE EATING HERE AGAIN. If you order here make sure you ask them to make sure chicken extra done. So disgusted.
google avatar

Tamar B.

Yelp
The food is great. I liked that we were able to choose a spice level for some of the food options. The staff is great as well! Very timely and friendly.
google avatar

Ashley A.

Yelp
Love this place for takeout! One of my neighborhood go to on any night of the week. Easy pick up and the crab rangoons are delish.
google avatar

C. Y.

Yelp
There is a new owner and new decor I'm told. All I know is that I had great service and excellent food. It is my new Thai restaurant in Portland. At least give it a try and you can make your own assessment. I would highly recommend!
google avatar

Eli K.

Yelp
Really enjoyed my to-go lunch from here today. Sabiang Thai's food has some good heat to it; if you find most Thai food around Portland insufficiently spicy unless you order Hot (at least), then you'll be happy at Sabiang Thai with a Medium and might be pushing yourself at Hot. Really friendly staff and good flavors. Highly recommend.
google avatar

Laura W.

Yelp
Ordered delivery. I got the pad woon sen, which is my go-to thai dish for a new place. The noodles are not so flavorful here, tofu is very lightly cooked, almost raw, but includes broccoli, which is great. Portions are perfect for the price. Overall not astounding but I would definitely order from here again because it felt fresh and it felt good. And I'm very happy that they have pad woon sen because not every Thai place has it! Thank you, Sabiang Thai! SPICE LEVEL I ordered a spice level of HOT upon reading reviews, but I clearly should have gone with the THAI HOT because hot was a solid "medium" for me, and I feel like I am an average high-hot-spice loving person. So, if you have what you feel is a higher than average spice tolerance, then go for the Thai hot if you're feeling spicy.
google avatar

Sai P.

Yelp
Our waiter was very attentive and great. We had the dumplings and their dumplings. Both of them were delicious
google avatar

Tim S.

Yelp
Ordered through Yelp and it was quick and easy. I ordered Pad See Ew w/ Vegetable Spring Rolls and I ordered during their evening dinner rush so the wait was 30-45 mins before I could pick up. The food was ready when I arrived 30mins later. Staff was quick and very polite. Will definitely be ordering from them again!

C W.

Yelp
Sorry to say, this was a poor meal. Service was fine but the crab fried rice was overcooked and nearly tasteless. The three taste fish had a decent piece of cod, but just two different dipping sauces and a plate of nearly raw veggies. The phad Thai was way too sweet and unlike any phad Thai I've tasted. Hey, the Thai ice tea was great!

P N.

Yelp
Great addition to the neighborhood. They opened up in late March during the quarantine. Reviews before are for the old Thai restaurant Tuk Tuk which had gone down hill Sabiang remodeled the restaurant and the service and food are great. We tried the curry puff and tulip appetizers. Both were delicious. We also enjoyed fried shrimp. Our chicken Pad Thai was ok. It didn't have a lot of flavor so perhaps order medium or spicy. We will be back
google avatar

Sarah A.

Yelp
This is our new go-to Thai. I've been looking for a a good pad Thai in this town for years and this place delivers. Easy ordering and pickup, good portions, and delicious food.
google avatar

David D.

Yelp
This place is a welcome addition to the neighborhood. The staff are very sweet and accommodating, and the food has been consistently excellent. They even give a free small sweet rice with fruit dessert that is complementary. My friend ordered the deep-fried soft shelled crab specialty and it was off the charts amazing. I tried the Sukhothai pork noodle soup and it was absolutely delicious.
google avatar

K D.

Yelp
Fantastic food! I was surprised at how fresh the vegetables were. Most restaurants overcook the vegetables, but these were cooked to a perfect balance of fresh/crisp and cooked deliciousness. And the service was unbelievable: so genuinely kind and thoughtful. The wonderful woman who helped us made us try the genuine Thai recipe for mango sticky rice after our meal: it was AMAZING. Oh, and the atmosphere inside the place was very relaxing as well. We love this place and will be back!

Sarah N.

Yelp
The best service and the yummiest food! Every time I have eaten here has been incredible and I'm always wanting more!

Sarah F.

Yelp
So so good! Austen was super nice and helpful. The food was quick and delicious. Inside had a great vibe. I'm obsessed with the mango and sweet rice! Couldn't recommend enough!

A R.

Yelp
Take out order, my first experience with this restaurant. Fresh rolls and spring rolls were ok, papaya salad was seriously lacking in acid and heat (requested)... kind of lackluster spicy eggplant and the sticky rice had a hair embedded in it that would have killed the whole meal if I hadn't eaten it last. Kind of feel like people have given up.
