The 13 Best Spots for Meat on a Stick in San Francisco | Eater SF

"Sabor Gaucho brings Brazilian churrasco to San Francisco, with skewered meats carved tableside in the traditional rodízio (rotational) style. Picanha, bacon-wrapped chicken, linguiça sausage, and a variety of other heavenly skewered meats sail through the dining room. As expected, there’s a full salad bar and a range of sides that are also all-you-can-eat, but the endless parade of meats is the real reason to come." - Antony Fangary

"This Brazilian steakhouse has 18 different cuts of meat, with an all-you-can-eat option for $79. On top of tableside-carved pork, beef, and lamb, the Russian Hill restaurant also has beer, wine, and caipirinhas on deck. We haven’t been here yet, but want you to know this spot exists. Wow the service couldn’t have been any better. Silva & Marcio were so good & welcoming best service I had in long time. The inside looks so nice compared to nicks tacos they did a really good job. The drinks were top notch and the salad bar was as well. I could just go there to eat at the salad bar which I will do next time. We all had the all you can eat and was an experience. I haven’t been into meat too much lately bc I’m an animal lover so that didn’t mix considering it’s a steak house. Their combinations were great. Cheese with honey and then grilled pineapple. I cook my meat different I do it on a grill and do it med rare and I’m picky bc I think I can outdo all restaurants so I won’t go there. Lamb chops were really good. Even the bread was good. A must try nice place even just for a drink you should check it out.

I came expecting proper Brazilian churrasco — fresh meat grilled over charcoal with coarse salt — but what I got felt nothing like that. Every cut was over-marinated, oversalted, and tasted reheated. The picanha came in some spicy marinade (it should never be), the ribeye tasted like bouillon cubes, and the lamb was so salty I couldn’t finish one bite. It wasn’t grilled at all — it felt boiled, with zero char or smoke. Most meats were dry and unevenly cooked, like they’d been sitting under heat lamps. Cuts were thick and heavy instead of thinly sliced from the skewer like real churrasco. Even the salt felt wrong — more like table salt or seasoning mix than proper sal grosso. For $90 per person, this was a huge letdown. I left after 30 minutes, after tasting each type of meat, because I didn’t want to ruin the memory of what real churrasco is supposed to be — simple, smoky, and flavorful from the fire, not from spice and salt. If you’ve ever had true churrasco in Brazil, this place will shock you. No charcoal aroma, no proper slicing, no care in preparation. Polite staff, but that’s the only positive thing I can say. Way overpriced and absolutely not worth it.

We had been excitedly waiting for this restaurant to open since we love Brazilian food. Until now, we have only tried Espetus in San Mateo and Fogo de Chao, so we were looking forward to having another option nearby. The buffet here is not quite at the same level as the others. They do have sushi, which is a fun touch, but I found it strange that there were no small plates or dishes for soy sauce and wasabi. The cheese selection, while limited, had some good choices, but there was no bread or crackers to pair with them. Plain cheese on its own is fine, but a little accompaniment would have been nice. Moving on to the meats, which is really what we came for. The chicken wings were well seasoned, and the filet mignon and picanha were both delicious. The bacon wrapped filet mignon, however, was disappointing as the bacon was undercooked. The rack of lamb did not have much flavor for me, but the beef and pork ribs were excellent. The brisket, which came toward the end, was incredibly smoky and flavorful. I only wish I had more room to enjoy it. The one cut I did not see come out the entire evening was the pork belly. Throughout dinner, the grilled pineapple made several rounds and I happily accepted every time. I love grilled pineapple, but at eighty dollars per person, I was not sure it was wise to fill up on it. Midway through the meal, my husband asked for a glass of house wine. He enjoyed it, but we later discovered it cost thirty three dollars a glass. That was a surprise, as we assumed a “house wine” would be more modestly priced. To be fair, we should have asked to see the menu first, but it was unexpected that they would not clarify what house wine meant. Service overall was very good. The staff was attentive and made sure to stop by whenever our card was turned to green. At times they felt a little aggressive. For example, the minute we sat down the waitress approached with bottles of sparkling and still water already in her hands while asking if we preferred sparkling, still, or tap. If I had not caught the word tap, I could have easily ended up with bottled water added to the bill. . I hope that was not an intentional upsell, as it gave me pause. All in all, it was a solid first visit. While there are still some rough edges, the meats and attentive service stood out. With a bit more fine tuning, I can see this restaurant becoming a great option for Brazilian dining in the area.

Google
It was my first time at Sabor Gaúcho and I was extremely impressed by the variety of meats and high quality service. Marcio took great care of our party! I really felt like every need was taken care of. The cuts of meat were varied and plentiful and everything was cooked to perfection. They even came around and asked how you like your meats cooked. We all left very satisfied and would go back again!

We went early as a walk-in group with a party of 5. Delicious food. Vegan and meat option. The noodles were the best I've ever had. Meat was perfect. Cheesebread Delicious. Everyone that works there is from Brazil. Highly recommend!

Visited for the first time to celebrate my birthday and everything was honestly perfect. The food was incredible, and Elias and Ronaldo took amazing care of us, seriously 100/100. Can’t wait to come back!

If Gluttony is truly a sin, then Sabor Gaúcho Prime is probably why I didn't get raptured today. We showed up to our reservation a little before 6 pm. The place was empty. We were promptly seated and adjourned to the cold buffett. This is a nice spread of food. Salads, great cheese, sushi, salmon, and a nice array of finger foods. Once back at the table we flip the marker over and the mayhem began. Meat was flying at us so fast I thought I was Joey Chestnut. Filet mignon, rib eye, all very well cooked in your favorite temperature. My favorite was the Filet wrapped bacon and just about every other red meat. My colon paid the price for Sabor's excellence. Real standouts included the spicy shrimp, the cheese with honey and the pineapple coated in cinnamon. The meal is unrushed but we flipped our cards from red to green several times to keep up with the onslaught of glorious meat. Not complaining. Just a warning. The food will come at you faster than a bear that smells ... uh food. We finished up with a very good creme brulee and NY Cheesecake. This place ain't cheap. That said, you get what you pay for. I was very pleased with the food and buffett. It's a nice place for date night or special occasions and certainly worth its value.

I came for the happy hour menu to see if I would like it and it was excellent! The wings had great seasoning and flavor. The drink was strong and flavorful. The service was well above the standard. I will definitely be back to try the full experience!

Yelp
Wow, what an amazing experience at this Brazilian Steakhouse! All the meats were so flavorful & perfectly cooked. A special shoutout to Marcio for providing such outstanding service, he was attentive, friendly, and made the whole experience even better. I left completely full and happy. Can't wait to come back! (Especially for the chocolate lava cake!)

Jayla K.

Yelp
I usually never write reviews about restaurants but the service at this restaurant was over the top amazing. All the workers were so attentive and friendly (especially Marcio). The inside was very clean, aesthetic, and the live music was the cherry on the top. I wouldn't have expected to like the sushi at the buffet area but it was fresh and amazing. As well the meats were cooked to perfection. And the grilled pineapple... no notes.

Yelp
My first time trying Brazilian steakhouse. It was great!! Will be back again! Staff were very friendly and attentive to us. Would highly recommend.

Yelp
The overall experience start to finish was superb. We went at lunchtime and were seated promptly. The food was amazing, the salad bar area alone was top shelf, great options and sides including a great fresh sushi section. The meats were brought around as quickly as you wanted, my favorite was the ribeye and the lamb hops. I had a coffee drink afterwards to sit and enjoy the beautiful setting, white table cloth elegance. It was well worth the price!!

Yelp
Great Brazilian steakhouse. There was a large variety of meats being served and every cut I tried was super tender, well-seasoned, and clearly high quality. The staff kept things moving, and everything came out hot and fresh. I also really loved the cheese bread they served at the start; warm, chewy, and full of flavor. The salad bar had a surprisingly good variety too, with plenty of fresh vegetables, salads, and sides to balance out all the meat.

Yelp
I was looking forward in trying this restaurant because it's walking distance from home. I don't know if I like this restaurant better than Fogo de Chao or Espetus. Meats at this restaurant are more favorable, juicier and cooked to perfection - not overly cooked nor tough. However, their selection of meats are limited unlike the other two restaurants. If you are into meat and only want meat, this is the restaurant you want to go. Meats are served temperature hot and waiters are constantly coming. The best part, they are the only restaurant that serves huge beef ribs with the bone. Their hot buffet (more like entrees) is not as good as Espetus; it's not appealing, temperature hot nor tasteful. It's overwhelmed with salt and looks like it was sitting there for awhile. The cold buffet looks appealing. Somehow seeing the sushi section turned me off. It did not seem appropriate so I did not try anything from the cold buffet section. Service does not seem "polished." The meat servers seem awkward and hurried. They don't look well groomed as the other two restaurants. The downturn for me is when I specifically asked for ice in my glass of ice water. Instead, I was served cold water with no ice. I had to ask at least four times for "ice". By then, my birthday mood was gone. I would think my wine flight would be served earlier rather than later; it was served while I was halfway eating my meats. Also, the table was crowded so when the meat was sliced, the meat person tipped my glass onto the table - so I actually did not have my full flight of wine. No excuse nor apology. The birthday cake surprise was delicious. I would just go for their desserts. Their dessert menu tops all the other two restaurants. Not only that, it was super delicious. I will give Sabor Gaucho another try since my family thinks it's okay and walking distance to home.

Yelp
Came here for happy hour on a weekday and they have a great deal. Sat at the bar and the bartender was very friendly and made the classic Brazilian cocktail lime capirinha for us that was delicious. We got the chicken wings off the happy hour menu and then the spicy picanha which was cooked so well. Just opened so seems to be getting more business each day but definitely will go back for happy hour and need to try their full menu!

Yelp
Great selection of premium delicious cuts of beef, pork, lamb, and shrimp. The staff is super friendly and kids are welcome!

Yelp
Clari is an amazing bartender! She brings to much fun to happy hour, and the sushi chef there is incredible! The happy hour menu is my favorite, offering a variety of quality options under $20. Live music on weekends too!

Yelp
great and attentive service, liked the starters like the sushi and ceviche, the Brazilian bread was my fave but meat was lackluster. liked the sirloin the best cause had most flavorful but the rest had to add some seasoning. bday dessert was nice

Yelp
Shout out to sushi chef Patrick who made these beautiful sushi rolls. I absolutely loved the Brazilian steak nigiri and forgot to take a photo before I devoured them all. Highly recommend to try their sushi menu!

Yelp
My husband and I had so much fun at Sabor Gaúcho! The staff is so friendly and helpful, and the food is delicious (make sure to try the pineapple). We both did the full experience; I wasn't hungry at first but ended up dining for 2 hours. It is so well organized which makes it hard to believe the restaurant has only opened for 6 days! So great to have them in the neighborhood and we will definitely be going back!

Yelp
I was absolutely BLOWN away at the quality of the service my now fiancé and I received while having (what I didn't know) was my proposal dinner! From the lovely hostess to every single server who tended to us. The food was outstanding ! We even got brought a shot of tequila in a pretty glass. lol! My eyes were a lot bigger than my stomach but I think it was due to the nerves of just being proposed to. Marcio, one of the servers was awesome! He packed us a piece of their signature cheesecake to go. They really did help us capture this moment. They even offered to take photos of us! My night was truly made so special and I'm so glad we chose to come here and have dinner! Next time we are in San Francisco we will definitely be back! Thank you everyone for being so outstanding during our dinner !

Yelp
Went with a group of 4. We mainly focused on the meats vs the side dishes. The cheese bread starters were great! The meat quality, seasoning, and taste were all amazing. I've only been to one other Brazilian steakhouse, which was fogo de chao and I thought this one was better. Service was super fast and we barely had time to rest between dishes haha.

Yelp
I gave this restaurant three stars. Quality of meats- tender and juicy Services- fantastic Most of the meats are salty. My favorite is chicken hearts! I won't dine there again because it's quite expensive. $79 per person for AYCE meats but desserts are not included.

Yelp
I feel like the dessert is good for eating after the heavy meal. We ordered the lava cake and the crème brûlée for the kids. They approved it tasted great. My favorite meat is the ribeye. Has enough seasoning I think for my taste. The staff are all nice and friendly. Will be back next time.

Yelp
5 stars across the board. Service was impeccable, with very quick turnaround. Everyone was highly attentive. The restaurant itself is very pretty, clean and so exciting to have it on Polk St! The rodizio was pretty tasty, with a wide selection. My favorite was of course the grilled pineapple and the grilled cheese with honey. Highly recommend this place and they just gained a new customer!

Yelp
New spot on Polk, big portions and delish! The space is large and great for special occasions

Yelp
If you're looking for an authentic Brazilian steakhouse experience, Sabor Gaúcho delivers! From the moment we walked in, the staff made us feel welcome and taken care of. The service was attentive without being overbearing, and they kept the meats coming at the perfect pace. The quality of the food was excellent--tender cuts of steak, juicy chicken, flavorful sausages, and perfectly seasoned lamb. The pão de queijo (cheese bread) was addictive, and the sides kept the meal feeling complete. What really stood out was the atmosphere. It felt warm and inviting, perfect for both a special occasion and a casual night out. The team here clearly cares about giving their guests a memorable dining experience. Whether you're a first-timer to Brazilian churrasco or a seasoned fan, Sabor Gaúcho is a must-visit. Come hungry...you'll leave full and happy!

Yelp
My Brazilian boyfriend and I came here after looking for Brazilian food to eat in SF. We opted to order individual items off the menu rather than doing the buffet because we weren't *starving*. Everything was excellent!! The staff are very attentive and kind. The staff were all native Brazilians which made my boyfriend happy. My favorites were the picanha, the pão de quejo, mashed potatoes, and Caesar salad! My boyfriend enjoyed the salmon, the picanha, and the potato salad. We also got the caipirinhas which were delicious and are made with Brazilian cachaça. Restaurant is clean and beautiful inside. Hope to come back and wish the best of luck to the staff!

Yelp
Just opened Sabor Gaúcho is the same level as other Brazilian steak houses, such as Fogo de Chão & Espetus. Highlights were the bacon-wrapped filet mignon, spiced picanha, rib-eye, honey-covered grilled cheese, and brown-sugared cinnamon pineapple. The service was immaculate. Fully recommended - the best of luck to the owners & staff!

Yelp
So happy that Sabor Gaucho is taking over the Broadway and polk location! And it is delicious and the service is incredible. The owners and staff are warm and welcoming. Congratulations on the new opening. Go eat there and say hello to Silva the owner. Cheers to a bright future!

Yelp
I absolutely recommend this place it is just amazing, all the staff and the manager are just so kind and efficient. Specially our waiter Louis Simonato He's the best

Azaria Z.

Yelp
The quality of meat and seasoning was well above the quality of other similar places, like fogo de chao. The market table had an excellent selection as well! The service was phenomenal, with cuts coming quickly. Everything was very fresh, and if we requested more of a specific cut, they would make it within a few minutes. Staff were all friendly too. The lighting and temperature in the restaurant were also well managed.

M C.

Yelp
2 stars is obviously a bit harsh so I will preface my review by saying that the quality of the meat was fine (3+ stars) and I can't fault the service. That said, everything else here is a total miss. Starting with the decor, the carpeting, chairs, and overall interior design looks cheap and out of place for a brand new restaurant in the middle of SF. Almost like an upscale Olive Garden. There is an absurd amount of tables. Even though the restaurant was maybe 1/3 full it felt uncomfortably cramped and it was difficult just to walk around to the buffet. I can't even imagine what it would be like if it was close to full. The buffet is extremely underwhelming. In fact, as soon as I saw it I was tempted to just leave. I'm not a Brazilian steakhouse connoisseur but have been to 5-6 and this was by far the smallest and worst selection I've seen. If you wanted a salad you could take the entire tray that they provide and barely fill your plate. The presentation and quality was very mediocre. So, although the meat itself was fine, I rate the restaurant as 2 stars given the buffet (which is a major part of the experience), the unpleasant design and layout of the interior, and the price. The service was very good and everyone we interacted with was genuinely friendly, so kudos to the staff. Unfortunately not enough to overcome the other negatives.

Yelp
We have been waiting for quite a while to see this iconic location get a Brazilian steakhouse. If I could give this place 10 stars, I would. The food was superb, with juicy and delicious beef, chicken, sausages, grilled pineapple, etc and a fresh and tasty salad bar. There's a beautiful bar with amazing cocktails, and the most refreshing Caipirinha. The service was top notch and the ambiance, uplifting-- you can truly feel the positive energy. Already planning a big dinner outing here with our friends and family and so happy to see this world-class Brazilian steakhouse in our neighborhood!

Maria Paula J.

Yelp
The food was delicious and the service was amazing, especially from Sidinaldo, who made our experience even better. This place is highly recommended. We will definitely be back for our Christmas dinner. Thank you for everything!

Yelp
Sabor Gaúcho Brazilian Steakhouse I can truly recommend! the Steak House it is very elegant and the service is fantastic. The food was delicious, and the meats were cooked absolutely perfect. The Salad Bar is amazing had to find a better one. The service is great the food is top of the line. This is one very impressive place to dine in the Polk St area.

Yelp
Great food and even better service! My boyfriend is a big fan of Brazilian steakhouses, and I think we've now gone to every single one in San Francisco including this one, which has now become his favorite! We had a reservation for 7:15 and came a few minutes early. Parking is available on the street, but the neighborhood is busy on the weekends, so be sure to factor that time in. The ambiance of the restaurant was very nice. It looked clean and modern. I personally thought the salad bar was eh but I don't gravitate towards the salad bars anyways. They have sushi which my boyfriend was a big fan of. Im definitely the kind of person who tries to save their appetite for the meat so I didn't try anything. Service was amazing. The staff were all really friendly and nice. They took our drink orders promptly. They also brought us mashed potatoes, french fries, and bread which I didn't know was included in our dinner. Plenty of waiters walking around and checking in on us, and I felt very well attended to. Food itself was really good -- I think the best quality of all the Brazilian steakhouses we've been to. Would definitely come back again!

Florence C.

Yelp
Great food - especially picanha and spicy filet. Awesome service. Warm ambience. Please go!

Jason B.

Yelp
What a great churrascaria experience! The meat is delicious and the variety is tremendous! The salad bar and hot bar are the best I've had. Worth it!!

Kristin H.

Yelp
We went on their second day of being open, and while we noticed a bit of chaos amongst the staff (they had issues with our bill and couldn't find the drink order to pair with the meal so had to confirm with us what we had ordered drink wise), overall everything went smoothly. They immediately brought over cheese bread when we sat, which was so tasty and chewy. We ordered their classic Brazilian cocktail and it was very refreshing. As for the salad bar, we didn't eat too much off of it, but they had charcuterie, some hot food (beans, rice, pasta) various already mixed salads and a few items of sushi. Everything we did try was tasty, but (this is a personal thing) I would have loved just a bowl of lettuce. They had many pickles and toppings, and I think even dressing, but no just plain lettuce or mixed greens. As for the meat that came out, it was a nice variety! They even had shrimp and pineapple (which had a mixture of cinnamon and sugar glazed on the outside). The meats itself were mainly tasty, but I think they had some temperature issues. One skewer was presented and they asked for medium, med well and well, we both said medium, and they both were very well done. The flavor was good, but it made us laugh. There was another that looked very rare, and while my partner said medium, it was definitely medium rare. Granted, this was the second day open so to be expected. During our meal we were probably asked 10+ times if we needed anything, how it was, any special requests. It was very attentive service but maybe a little overkill. We finally took them up and asked for a specific skewer which took 5+ minutes to make it to our table anyway, so wasn't sure what the point of asking was. Now for the bill, we didn't see anywhere how much this all was. You see the drinks prices of course but for the actual meal itself. Not on the menu, not online, etc so I was bracing myself. I don't remember exactly, as I only briefly looked at my bill, but for the one drink ($18), 2 all you can eat, and 20% tip ($35), our bill was $226. I dont remember if they had the healthy sf fees or anything. This is not a cheap meal but one you go for a birthday or something. We definitely didn't feel like we ate our money worth (that was our fault, we got full), but glad we tried it! It's a welcome addition to the neighborhood and I look forward to watching it grow.

Pablitooo35 M.

Yelp
The best steakhouse in the bay! Everyone is so friendly and served us well! The place is beautiful! Every single detail! Their steak has the best seasoning. Salad bar has sushi . They always made sure we had food in our plate! Hands down the best on I have ever being to.

Yelp
Wonderful lunch with friends. Beautiful restaurant. Incredible cocktails and appetizers. Great variety. The best meat, but they also offered many other options. The best service from all of their wait staff. We highly recommend!

Yelp
This is a place I truly recommend! The atmosphere is very pleasant, and the service is simply amazing. I was there celebrating my husband's birthday and was delighted with all the attention we received. The food was delicious, and the meats were absolutely perfect!

Yelp
I've lived in this neighborhood 20 years and this place is such a welcome addition! The owners (hi Silva & Denny!) are super friendly, and I got to know them as they were building out the place. I recently went with a friend to celebrate a special occasion and it was such a great decision. The food was delicious, I love how it's truly all you can eat. There were so many cuts of meat to sample: the Filet Mignon and Ribeye were my favorites. But the lamb chops were also excellent. And the breaded shrimp was wonderful too. And so was the buffet. Oh well, I can't choose - it was all great! I look forward to going back soon!

Yelp
I am a very large fan of Brazilian steakhouses in general. I've been to many, and have a few favorite spots. With that said, I came to Sabor Gaúcho for the first time last night, and after that one visit, it is now my favorite Brazilian steakhouse of all time. The picanha, the ribeye, the bacon wrapped sirloin all some of the best I've ever tasted. Fresh and quality delicious cuts of meat. I cannot recall the name but they have a spicy cut of something which has a nice layer of buttery fat attached to it. Magnificent. The service was beyond amazing. From the hostess with a lot of swag and personality, to the servers being super attentive and treating us great, all of them, and to who I assume was the owners or managers who came to our table and personally took care of us with a delicious pork belly that was not on the menu! Yes you heard that right, and my friends and I are humbled and eternally grateful to be treated so damn well! Ambiance had us feeling super comfortable and relaxed and able to easily enjoy this one of a kind experience. I've never been so satisfied with a restaurant experience as I was last night. In the end the food is A1 top notch and that's the main point. I could go on forever but I suggest you try everything. The special pineapple they brought us also is unmatched. I could go on about the beef ribs etc but I've said enough already. Thanks so much to everyone at Sabor Gaúcho!! Cannot wait to return!
