Sabor Gaucho - Review - Russian Hill - San Francisco - The Infatuation

"This Brazilian steakhouse has 18 different cuts of meat, with an all-you-can-eat option for $79. On top of tableside-carved pork, beef, and lamb, the Russian Hill restaurant also has beer, wine, and caipirinhas on deck. We haven’t been here yet, but want you to know this spot exists. I came expecting proper Brazilian churrasco — fresh meat grilled over charcoal with coarse salt — but what I got felt nothing like that. Every cut was over-marinated, oversalted, and tasted reheated. The picanha came in some spicy marinade (it should never be), the ribeye tasted like bouillon cubes, and the lamb was so salty I couldn’t finish one bite. It wasn’t grilled at all — it felt boiled, with zero char or smoke. Most meats were dry and unevenly cooked, like they’d been sitting under heat lamps. Cuts were thick and heavy instead of thinly sliced from the skewer like real churrasco. Even the salt felt wrong — more like table salt or seasoning mix than proper sal grosso. For $90 per person, this was a huge letdown. I left after 30 minutes, after tasting each type of meat, because I didn’t want to ruin the memory of what real churrasco is supposed to be — simple, smoky, and flavorful from the fire, not from spice and salt. If you’ve ever had true churrasco in Brazil, this place will shock you. No charcoal aroma, no proper slicing, no care in preparation. Polite staff, but that’s the only positive thing I can say. Way overpriced and absolutely not worth it.

We had been excitedly waiting for this restaurant to open since we love Brazilian food. Until now, we have only tried Espetus in San Mateo and Fogo de Chao, so we were looking forward to having another option nearby. The buffet here is not quite at the same level as the others. They do have sushi, which is a fun touch, but I found it strange that there were no small plates or dishes for soy sauce and wasabi. The cheese selection, while limited, had some good choices, but there was no bread or crackers to pair with them. Plain cheese on its own is fine, but a little accompaniment would have been nice. Moving on to the meats, which is really what we came for. The chicken wings were well seasoned, and the filet mignon and picanha were both delicious. The bacon wrapped filet mignon, however, was disappointing as the bacon was undercooked. The rack of lamb did not have much flavor for me, but the beef and pork ribs were excellent. The brisket, which came toward the end, was incredibly smoky and flavorful. I only wish I had more room to enjoy it. The one cut I did not see come out the entire evening was the pork belly. Throughout dinner, the grilled pineapple made several rounds and I happily accepted every time. I love grilled pineapple, but at eighty dollars per person, I was not sure it was wise to fill up on it. Midway through the meal, my husband asked for a glass of house wine. He enjoyed it, but we later discovered it cost thirty three dollars a glass. That was a surprise, as we assumed a “house wine” would be more modestly priced. To be fair, we should have asked to see the menu first, but it was unexpected that they would not clarify what house wine meant. Service overall was very good. The staff was attentive and made sure to stop by whenever our card was turned to green. At times they felt a little aggressive. For example, the minute we sat down the waitress approached with bottles of sparkling and still water already in her hands while asking if we preferred sparkling, still, or tap. If I had not caught the word tap, I could have easily ended up with bottled water added to the bill. . I hope that was not an intentional upsell, as it gave me pause. All in all, it was a solid first visit. While there are still some rough edges, the meats and attentive service stood out. With a bit more fine tuning, I can see this restaurant becoming a great option for Brazilian dining in the area.

Sabor Gaúcho is a new hidden gem in San Francisco! The food is absolutely delicious 😋 everything is fresh, flavorful, and authentically Brazilian (I am Brazilian and can assure myself). The meats are perfectly seasoned and juicy, and the sides are just like home-cooked comfort food. The atmosphere is warm and welcoming, and the staff is incredibly friendly and attentive, making you feel like part of the family. If you’re craving Brazilian cuisine or want to try something new, this spot is a must!

We went early as a walk-in group with a party of 5. Delicious food. Vegan and meat option. The noodles were the best I've ever had. Meat was perfect. Cheesebread Delicious. Everyone that works there is from Brazil. Highly recommend!

If Gluttony is truly a sin, then Sabor Gaúcho Prime is probably why I didn't get raptured today. We showed up to our reservation a little before 6 pm. The place was empty. We were promptly seated and adjourned to the cold buffett. This is a nice spread of food. Salads, great cheese, sushi, salmon, and a nice array of finger foods. Once back at the table we flip the marker over and the mayhem began. Meat was flying at us so fast I thought I was Joey Chestnut. Filet mignon, rib eye, all very well cooked in your favorite temperature. My favorite was the Filet wrapped bacon and just about every other red meat. My colon paid the price for Sabor's excellence. Real standouts included the spicy shrimp, the cheese with honey and the pineapple coated in cinnamon. The meal is unrushed but we flipped our cards from red to green several times to keep up with the onslaught of glorious meat. Not complaining. Just a warning. The food will come at you faster than a bear that smells ... uh food. We finished up with a very good creme brulee and NY Cheesecake. This place ain't cheap. That said, you get what you pay for. I was very pleased with the food and buffett. It's a nice place for date night or special occasions and certainly worth its value.

The experience at Sabor Gaúcho is absolutely extraordinary. The meats are of exceptional quality, always cooked to perfection and full of flavor. The service is excellent, fast, and attentive — both from the servers and the gaucho chefs. The restaurant has a beautiful, modern atmosphere with a stylish and welcoming vibe. The salad bar is also amazing, packed with fresh and well-prepared options. A special thanks to manager Cláudio, who was extremely attentive and kind, and to owner Sidinaldo, who is very welcoming and genuinely cares about the guests’ experience. Truly a wonderful visit — I highly recommend it to anyone looking for the best Brazilian steakhouse experience in the U.S.

I came for the happy hour menu to see if I would like it and it was excellent! The wings had great seasoning and flavor. The drink was strong and flavorful. The service was well above the standard. I will definitely be back to try the full experience!

Yelp
If you're looking for an authentic Brazilian steakhouse experience, Sabor Gaúcho delivers! From the moment we walked in, the staff made us feel welcome and taken care of. The service was attentive without being overbearing, and they kept the meats coming at the perfect pace. The quality of the food was excellent--tender cuts of steak, juicy chicken, flavorful sausages, and perfectly seasoned lamb. The pão de queijo (cheese bread) was addictive, and the sides kept the meal feeling complete. What really stood out was the atmosphere. It felt warm and inviting, perfect for both a special occasion and a casual night out. The team here clearly cares about giving their guests a memorable dining experience. Whether you're a first-timer to Brazilian churrasco or a seasoned fan, Sabor Gaúcho is a must-visit. Come hungry...you'll leave full and happy!

Yelp
My husband and I had so much fun at Sabor Gaúcho! The staff is so friendly and helpful, and the food is delicious (make sure to try the pineapple). We both did the full experience; I wasn't hungry at first but ended up dining for 2 hours. It is so well organized which makes it hard to believe the restaurant has only opened for 6 days! So great to have them in the neighborhood and we will definitely be going back!

Yelp
Just opened Sabor Gaúcho is the same level as other Brazilian steak houses, such as Fogo de Chão & Espetus. Highlights were the bacon-wrapped filet mignon, spiced picanha, rib-eye, honey-covered grilled cheese, and brown-sugared cinnamon pineapple. The service was immaculate. Fully recommended - the best of luck to the owners & staff!

Yelp
5 stars across the board. Service was impeccable, with very quick turnaround. Everyone was highly attentive. The restaurant itself is very pretty, clean and so exciting to have it on Polk St! The rodizio was pretty tasty, with a wide selection. My favorite was of course the grilled pineapple and the grilled cheese with honey. Highly recommend this place and they just gained a new customer!

Yelp
My Brazilian boyfriend and I came here after looking for Brazilian food to eat in SF. We opted to order individual items off the menu rather than doing the buffet because we weren't *starving*. Everything was excellent!! The staff are very attentive and kind. The staff were all native Brazilians which made my boyfriend happy. My favorites were the picanha, the pão de quejo, mashed potatoes, and Caesar salad! My boyfriend enjoyed the salmon, the picanha, and the potato salad. We also got the caipirinhas which were delicious and are made with Brazilian cachaça. Restaurant is clean and beautiful inside. Hope to come back and wish the best of luck to the staff!

Yelp
Great food and even better service! My boyfriend is a big fan of Brazilian steakhouses, and I think we've now gone to every single one in San Francisco including this one, which has now become his favorite! We had a reservation for 7:15 and came a few minutes early. Parking is available on the street, but the neighborhood is busy on the weekends, so be sure to factor that time in. The ambiance of the restaurant was very nice. It looked clean and modern. I personally thought the salad bar was eh but I don't gravitate towards the salad bars anyways. They have sushi which my boyfriend was a big fan of. Im definitely the kind of person who tries to save their appetite for the meat so I didn't try anything. Service was amazing. The staff were all really friendly and nice. They took our drink orders promptly. They also brought us mashed potatoes, french fries, and bread which I didn't know was included in our dinner. Plenty of waiters walking around and checking in on us, and I felt very well attended to. Food itself was really good -- I think the best quality of all the Brazilian steakhouses we've been to. Would definitely come back again!

Yelp
We have been waiting for quite a while to see this iconic location get a Brazilian steakhouse. If I could give this place 10 stars, I would. The food was superb, with juicy and delicious beef, chicken, sausages, grilled pineapple, etc and a fresh and tasty salad bar. There's a beautiful bar with amazing cocktails, and the most refreshing Caipirinha. The service was top notch and the ambiance, uplifting-- you can truly feel the positive energy. Already planning a big dinner outing here with our friends and family and so happy to see this world-class Brazilian steakhouse in our neighborhood!

Yelp
I've lived in this neighborhood 20 years and this place is such a welcome addition! The owners (hi Silva & Denny!) are super friendly, and I got to know them as they were building out the place. I recently went with a friend to celebrate a special occasion and it was such a great decision. The food was delicious, I love how it's truly all you can eat. There were so many cuts of meat to sample: the Filet Mignon and Ribeye were my favorites. But the lamb chops were also excellent. And the breaded shrimp was wonderful too. And so was the buffet. Oh well, I can't choose - it was all great! I look forward to going back soon!

Yelp
We went on their second day of being open, and while we noticed a bit of chaos amongst the staff (they had issues with our bill and couldn't find the drink order to pair with the meal so had to confirm with us what we had ordered drink wise), overall everything went smoothly. They immediately brought over cheese bread when we sat, which was so tasty and chewy. We ordered their classic Brazilian cocktail and it was very refreshing. As for the salad bar, we didn't eat too much off of it, but they had charcuterie, some hot food (beans, rice, pasta) various already mixed salads and a few items of sushi. Everything we did try was tasty, but (this is a personal thing) I would have loved just a bowl of lettuce. They had many pickles and toppings, and I think even dressing, but no just plain lettuce or mixed greens. As for the meat that came out, it was a nice variety! They even had shrimp and pineapple (which had a mixture of cinnamon and sugar glazed on the outside). The meats itself were mainly tasty, but I think they had some temperature issues. One skewer was presented and they asked for medium, med well and well, we both said medium, and they both were very well done. The flavor was good, but it made us laugh. There was another that looked very rare, and while my partner said medium, it was definitely medium rare. Granted, this was the second day open so to be expected. During our meal we were probably asked 10+ times if we needed anything, how it was, any special requests. It was very attentive service but maybe a little overkill. We finally took them up and asked for a specific skewer which took 5+ minutes to make it to our table anyway, so wasn't sure what the point of asking was. Now for the bill, we didn't see anywhere how much this all was. You see the drinks prices of course but for the actual meal itself. Not on the menu, not online, etc so I was bracing myself. I don't remember exactly, as I only briefly looked at my bill, but for the one drink ($18), 2 all you can eat, and 20% tip ($35), our bill was $226. I dont remember if they had the healthy sf fees or anything. This is not a cheap meal but one you go for a birthday or something. We definitely didn't feel like we ate our money worth (that was our fault, we got full), but glad we tried it! It's a welcome addition to the neighborhood and I look forward to watching it grow.

Yelp
Wonderful lunch with friends. Beautiful restaurant. Incredible cocktails and appetizers. Great variety. The best meat, but they also offered many other options. The best service from all of their wait staff. We highly recommend!
