The 8 Best Peruvian Restaurants In Houston

"Every dish at Sabor Y Sazón, a tiny Peruvian restaurant in Spring Branch, tastes like it should be their best seller. They dish out classics like giant plates of tender lomo saltado glazed in a slightly sweet sauce and served with the softest roasted tomatoes. And their bowls of stew with spicy shrimp floating in the creamy broth are so delicious that we don’t mind peeling the ends off of each piece. You’ll see the occasional staff member emerge from the kitchen to shoot the breeze with regulars. Sabor Y Sazón usually closes before 5pm, so pop in early and crown this place as your new favorite lunch spot. " - gianni greene, chelsea thomas, julie takahashi

I went to Sabor y Sazón Peruvian Restaurant, and I was not very happy with my visit. The place was empty at lunchtime, which felt a little strange. Since I was new to the place, I asked the server for some suggestions and she was completely clueless. So, I ordered ceviche, but honestly, I have had better at other places. The portion was very small, but the price was very high. The lemon taste was too strong, and I could not taste the fish at all. I was expecting some chifles to be included with the price but none were offered. I also got a drink, chicha morada, but same problem, it was too small for the price. However, the chicha morada tasted good. The tables were clean, the music was not too loud, and the server was nice. Overall, I expected more for the price. I don’t think I will come back.

I want to start by saying the food was absolutely delicious. However, the prices were OUTRAGEOUS. Don’t be deceived by the modest, hole-in-the-wall location—we spent $75, including tip, for just two plates, oh, and there are no refills on their drinks. We ordered the Lomo Saltado, which tasted great, but it only had about seven pieces of steak and cost $27. Initially, we thought these prices were standard for Peruvian cuisine, but after checking out other Peruvian restaurants nearby, we found much lower prices. For example, Peru Cafe Express is highly rated, and their Lomo Saltado is only $17.50 with much more generous portions. I’ve been to Peru Cafe and def recommend that place over this one. We also got a shrimp soup that was tasty but also priced at $27. While the food was good, the prices and location were insane. If there prices were reasonable at the least I would have given 4 stars.

Google
An intimate and enjoyable dining experience...best ceviche I have ever had, period ! I accidentally ordered the dinner size portion, which was twice the price as the appetizer portion, but holy Mary, mother-of GOD, it was AMAZING... succulent, buttery, melt-in-your-mouth delicious! Thin slabs of cold cooked fish that were just spicy enough to dent the palate without wrecking it. The side dish was some kind of brined corn or hominy that was also amazing...I wish I had another term in my vocabulary to describe it other than "amazing", but what can I say? I was amazed! I was not expecting a little establishment like Sabor y Sazon to impress me like so heavily...I had time to kill and figured I would just pop in for a snack and it blew me away...worth every penny ! Take a friend, take a date or go by yourself. I've never been to a Peruvian restaurant before, but I will absolutely go again. It reminds me of the first time I tried sushi, which also changed my palate considerably! My compliments to the staff!

Google
My fiancee and I really enjoyed this place. I've been wanting him to try great Peruvian food just like my Tia's cooking. Just after one bite of the empanada and he was loving it. The staff are super sweet and the atmosphere is very calming. Definitely coming back to try other dishes.

Google
Nice place, we were looking for Peruvian food, and this is a good one. The only thing I would say is the amount of meat. I lived some years in Chile, and Peruvian food was famous for the huge amount of food. Here, the lomo saltado had only 6 pieces of small beef and disappointed. I hoped a lot of meat, as I remember from years ago. The flavor was really good. The Chilean waitress was very nice. Recommended, but they should check about the quantity of meat.

Tim Long

Google
We used to like it a lot, but have now found that it has become increasingly very expensive for the product you receive. A small ceviche is now $25 (at the price point of more upscale places that have higher quality). Lo siento pero ya no es lo mismo y hay mejores ofertas en la ciudad…

Google
We always come back to our regular places if the service is on top of the food no matter what but we are not coming back to this place bc server there sucks, it’s funny because it has been the same one 3 or 4 times New visit 3-21-25 Better service and food was ok and pricey

Evelio Gonzalez

Google
My neighbor told me about this place and I was expecting quality, but my experience was no bueno, first I ordered a rice with some beef, and a flan for dessert, so for a Peruvian restaurant you expect quality food and good portions, so my 3 year old girl loves flan so I get one for her and this is the pictures of my order, not even half of the box on the rice ($17) and the flan ($4) was really small piece, sadly I live close by and I was expecting better service because I wanted it to keep coming back, but the service was poor they probably expect that only white people and Peruvian people show up, I definitely not coming back, don't take me wrong food was good, the flan not good, so I prefer to drive 10 to 15 minutes and spend a little bit more money but better service and normal portions for what you pay for, and better customer service, that was my experience. I hope that you have better service than I have, and I'm not complaining about the money.... I'm like many people, we just want to enjoy a good meal and be happy 😁🤪🇲🇽🇺🇸

Yelp
This restaurant was alright, the food was good but the prices are absurd! 23 dollars for a Lomo Saltado? And keep in mind, it was a pretty small portion. I think that if you want an affordable, and good restaurant, this is not it. Let me emphasize this again, prices are ridiculous and the food is in small portions. The food overall is good, but not worth the 23 dollars, especially if you're trying to have your stomach full after the meal. The place is good, it has a nice vibe to it and the service as well is good. Our server had just started working but he did a pretty good job. Overall just keep in mind, the food, service, and place is good but the price, and portions are unacceptable.

Yelp
The food was actually very delicious, and the presentation was so pretty. I don't think I've ever been served a rice pyramid lol. The meat was very flavorful and my plantains were perfect! I prefer my plantains on the sweeter side and these did not disappoint! I had never had Peruvian beans and while different they were quite delicious! I do recommend them but just keep in mind this place is a little on the pricey side for a small restaurant. Worth it, but pricey. I didn't mind paying I just wasn't expecting the $100 price tag. (Expensive is not a bad thing, but i think you should get a heads up!) Oh I also tried the Inca cola lol and it reminded me of a thumbs up but with a slight after taste worth trying something new!

Yelp
Why are the reviews from 7 years ago? I already have the answer, it is because at present the food they prepare has no taste, a year ago we came to eat and the food was very expensive but they served you a lot and it was delicious, now it is not like that and we do not plan to return, very expensive for so Small portion and on top of that tasteless, the only good thing about going to this restaurant is the friendly service.

Yelp
Food was delicious, hot, and fresh. The staff were very friendly and the place was very clean. I did not think it was overpriced - the portions were more than generous. Overall, a great experience. Charming place - my only disappointment is that I did not try it months ago.

Yelp
Excelente el sabor, la atención y una vez más el sabor a Perú Gracias Sabor y Sazón!

Yelp
Great service and loved the criollo music and ambiance! Portions were generous and big plates however the food was not so great. This was our second time here and we were disappointed both times. Huancaina sauce was old and no flavor. Chautauqua was greasy and wet from all the grease. Tamal was old. Literally a pound of masa that was dry and even the egg was going bad. Maybe had a small piece of chicken the size of my thumb's fingernails and everything else was masa. We will not be back which makes me sad because the other Peruvian restaurant is 20 more minutes away but it is way better taste wise.

Yelp
Came here for early brunch. Ordered ahead since we know food takes a while to come out. We were the only customers when we arrived. 1st dish came out within 15 mins. I was expecting the rest to come out soon after since we ordered 5 of the same dishes. However after another 10 mins went by with only 1 plate out I was confused. 3 more tables came in. Later on she came out with the rest of the plates however it wasn't what we ordered. It was a big mess. So again waiting for our food we watched the other tables got their food and they ordered the same dish as us. I thought our order would be rushed since there was a mix up. So by now all the other tables got their food and we're still waiting for ours although we ordered in advance and the first table. We waited another 15 mins..it was only the owner working the floor. Our food finally start trickling in. The food itself is not bad, however the service is very poor. I'm sorry to say this because she's an older lady but she's slow and clearly not capable of running the floor by herself. As soon as we finished our food we noticed a female waitress clocked in. A little late when the restaurant is busy on a weekend. The owner came by and asked how was everything (everyone was already done eating) and she want to the cashier counter. I assumed she was grabbing the bill. I was wrong, I have no idea what's going on in her mind but we waited about 15 mins. It came to the point that we had to fetch her and grab the bill. Tldr; service is very slow. Although the food was ok, I will not be returning.

Yelp
Clean restaurant, great service, the best chicken anywhere!!! Perfectly cooked, juicy, and flavor for dayyyyys. Everything is fresh and just so good. You should go right now!!!

Yelp
Great quality food and authentic Peruvian taste. Loved the menu variety and consistent flavors. Service is very friendly and prompt.

Yelp
Best food ever!!!! Would recommend 10/10 It has a different flavor then a regular Hispanic restaurant.

Karla M.

Yelp
It's the most delicious ceviche and Peruvian food ever! Their music is awesome excelente service and the food is very quickly ready

Bianca L.

Yelp
I would give this place 5 because the food is so good But they are way to strick with food alternations . I can't eat rice due to alergies and they sub anything so you end up paying $20 bucks For just fish instead of a fish and side They also don't tell you that you have to pay for water (bottle that's a crappy brand ) when you ask for water
google avatar

Yelp
Tried this for the first time last week because the hubby asked for a Torta. There are currently no good torta places around us.....until now. This place is legit. The food is delicious! Service is great! I highly recommend. Came back this Friday for dinner. The owner mentioned that he was a butcher and cares about the quality of meat he serves. You can definitely tell. Will definitely be a regular

Yelp
Second time coming this week, I'm visiting from NY and I've try Peruvian food before, but this one is my top top!! I had the fish croquets and chicken chaufa and the flavor goes beyond amazing. They serve lunch with a small soup. A delicious soup. Definitely coming back

Laura C.

Yelp
This place is a complete hidden gem!! If you love flavorful Latin flavors, you have to come try this delicious Peruvian restaurant. It's truly a hidden gem.
google avatar

Yelp
SO YUMMY!! The sauce is juicy and full of flavor and the seafood is cooked into perfection!!
google avatar

Yelp
So usually I review the foods in Spring Branch since I was born and raised here. This Peruvian Restaurant is absolutely delicious and stellar beans came with the seco de carne. It's cozy, they had a large fan blowing inside but it kept you cool/comfortable in this Houston weather. It's simple and prices vary from 6-18 dollars but the taste of it is one of a kind. Service was quick and friendly. Just raise your hand and they come to attend you. I would gladly come back here anytime.

Yelp
After a recent trip to Miami, I've become a fan of Peruvian food. Service is friendly. The prices were average. I got the classic lomo saltado, which tasted like Vietnamese shaken beef. The dessert tasted like a coffee flavored mousse with a nutty taste and drizzle of chocolate on top. Overall, I thought the food was good and look forward to visiting again.

Wren K.

Yelp
The ceviche was absolutely disgusting. It tasted like they marinated in plain sea water with an extra bucket of salt. There was no lime flavor. It was seriously disappointing. And the chef said that's the way they make it. Don't get ceviche here, this is not how its supposed to taste. There are much better restaurants that serve much better ceviche. Also the serving for it was so small for 22$. It came in the same size box as a burger from mcdonalds but it was 75% onions. NOT WORTH IT
google avatar

Monica Q.

Yelp
This was our first time trying this place and we were not disappointed. The food was excellent, we had Papa a la Huancaina, liked the presentation and taste, the Lomo Saltado was amazing, the meat was tender and fresh, and the Jalea came with a very tasty sarsa of onions, tomatoes and canchita, yumm!! We've gone to several Peruvian restaurants around the Houston area and I am from Lima, this is one of the few places that offers food with a very similar taste to what Peruvian food should taste like, so we're definitely going back!!! While we were there, we also noticed that every table was complementing the staff for the amazing food! Looking forward to trying the estofado, which I haven't had in a long time!!! Congrats and keep up the good work!

Yelp
Came in while in town for a quick business trip. I wanted something fresh, flavorful, and healthy. There were so many good options on the menu but with the waitress' help, I settled on two appetizers: the mussels with pico de gallo and carpaccio style fish with two different pepper sauces. Wow! I hit the jackpot! I look forward to returning to Houston and trying some of the other dishes soon!

Yelp
Absolutely outstanding!!!! First time visiting Sabor y Sazón, we came for lunch. We were greeted by a lovely waitress and got seated right away. Good size menu, good selection, and good prices. My husband asked for a traditional Peruvian dish called tallarines verdes, that wasn't on the menu. They obliged, with no problem! I ordered a ceviche for me and some rice and beans for my toddler. The food came out in good time and was FANTASTIC!! We all enjoyed it, including our daughter, who especially loved the beans and the sweet potato that came as a side on my ceviche. Everything tasted amazing, very authentic and super reasonably priced. There are very few good Peruvian restaurants here in Houston, so this restaurant is much welcomed. We will definitely be retuning to this place, for sure.
google avatar

Yvette B.

Yelp
Outstanding! The "Chupe de Camarones" was delicious!! The "Jalea" wow!! And the dessert was the cherry on top! Great food and great service! Best Peruvian food in Houston

Rodolfo B.

Yelp
Entirely pleasant dining experience. You better be hungry when you go cause not only is the food great, they serve very generous portions. The lady's were a pleasure to talk to and order from. The deserts weee fabulous
google avatar

Anthony G.

Yelp
They make very delicious food, and they're very friendly people, I recommend the pescado a lo macho. My favorite plate on the menu
google avatar

Jeff W.

Yelp
Yelp is my companion on business trips, so while in Houston I checked for restaurants near the hotel. I love Peruvian food and was happy to see a place was about 5 minutes away. Sabor is small located in a tiny strip mall, but don't be fooled, the food is superb. I had the shrimp ceviche and lomo saltado, both were excellent. The ceviche was some of the best I've ever have had. So good. I definitely recommend it. Everything far exceeded my expectations. So much so, I got and extra order of pollo to go for later in the evening. If you are in the area, don't pass this place up. Drop in and prepare for some seriously good food.
google avatar

Luis C.

Yelp
The food is amazing and very authentic! The service is excellent as well. The jalea tastes like you're in Lima with homemade tartara and salsa criolla. The papa rellena was delicious and the ceviche well prepared and delicious. Good music and environment

Yelp
My boyfriend and I went to eat here again for the second time because they have delicious platters but today we were disappointed in the customer service unfortunately and we won't be going there for at least a good while because we definitely left feeling that the service was unfair, closed minded. There is a platter called Jalea and if you read the description as of 9/18, it says that it is a seafood platter with Peruvian sauce poured over (which it's not... it's on the side served like a fast food dish) and then it fails to very clear about what exactly is fried. The description only states that the yucca is fried. It doesn't say the whole platter is entirely fried. When we were served the dish, we read over the description again to see if we had failed to read it carefully but we didn't. No where did it say everything on it is fried and that the sauce is actually just on the side like tartar sauce not at all presented the way it was described. So the manager who I guess, was also our waiter ? Not sure there, but anyway... says I'm sorry and responds with "well most people know Jalea is all fried" ... okay so we're not Peruvian nor familiar with Jalea. We've never heard of it we just went off the description so how is that our fault? It was a response that really just rubbed us the wrong way. It was a little bit rude and he then says I'm sorry and offers a discount and takes our plate back? We get the bill and literally ate one stick of yucca and two pieces of fried shrimp and get only a 10% discount and we were not even asked if we wanted to keep the basically full plate of food that we're paying for ? It just was a very unpleasant experience. We were really bummed because the food is so tasty but the customer service today was just really disappointing. Left a very bad taste in our mouth. I hope they realize they definitely could've handled that better and don't do that to someone else.

Yelp
Best Peruvian Restaurant in Town. Service is excellent, the quality of the food is amazing. We can't wait to go back and order Pollo a la Brasa (Rotisserie Chicken) again.
google avatar

Johandy U.

Yelp
Tried this place for the first time with the wife and we both loved it. Great service, the place is super clean and the food is amazing. The presentation of each dish was top notch. The restaurant itself is not the fanciest but it is clean and the food is great. I'll definitely come back. Strongly recommended.
google avatar

Teresa C.

Yelp
Great place!!! The service and food were great and delicious. I had the Lomo Saltado and papa a la Huancaina. I really liked that the potatoe was small, for some reason I feel it has more flavor to it. The place is very homey like, you feel like you are eating at grandma's lol. Cant wait to go back and try the other peruvian dishes that I love . Definitely, recommend this place.
google avatar

Ruth M.

Yelp
The food is delicious and beautifully presented. What looks and feels like a family restaurant serves traditional Peruvian food with an haute cuisine touch. The seafood is the big feature, but don't miss the outstanding first course options.
google avatar

Jenny D.

Yelp
Small place, delicious food. Menu is small and simple but offers good choices. Lomo saltado and arroz con mariscos were really good. Friendly service. Would highly recommend.
google avatar

Rasha A.

Yelp
Delicious Peruvian food! This little restaurant in an unassuming shopping center really surprised me. So grateful to Yelp for helping us find this place which will surely be added to our favorites. We ordered the shrimp ceviche, the creamy shrimp soup and the fried seafood platter. Portions were generous, the seafood was wonderfully fresh and the service was great. We will be back!
google avatar

Juan N.

Yelp
Wow this is a gem. The food was amazing. The service excellent. We enjoy every dish like the peruvian ceviche, pescado a lo macho (must try) and the flavorful picarones( peruvian donuts). Antichuchos and papa a la huancaina we're out of this world. Highly recommend this place. Authentic peruvian cuisine.
google avatar

Marion M.

Yelp
Excellent food. Very good service. I took the stewed beef with cilantro sauce. It tastes the same as Moroccan tajine! Delicious! And I took the passion fruit cheesecake. Very light, excellent again!

Consuelo T.

Yelp
Great Peruvian food original flavors excellent service and perfect service. The ambiance neat and extremely clean
google avatar

John P.

Yelp
Food was bland, but my biggest problem is that the restaurant wasn't even full and it took them 48 minutes to get us our food........not coming back here again
google avatar

Luiz Miguel M.

Yelp
My wife and I came for lunch here on a Sunday afternoon. Great service, the food was delicious and tasted homemade. Chicha Morada is really good. If you have a sweet tooth, make sure to order alfajores and a crema volteada.
google avatar

JD G.

Yelp
This is a hidden gem in the Westside of Houston! I didn't know what to expect and I was blown away by the food. I give it two thumbs up for South America cuisine.
google avatar

Stephanie G.

Yelp
Not good. Customer service was awful making it an uncomfortable environment. Food was also very bland. Needs more flavor.
google avatar

Kay B.

Yelp
Accidentally stumbled upon this hidden gem when I got lost in the city. Best thing I'd done that entire day. The service was great. The lady who assisted me was patient as I fumbled through the menu and helped me pick a dish. The food was great!! I cannot wait to go back!...if you're in the area, definitely do yourself a favor and stop by.
google avatar

Diana Z.

Yelp
This place is a little family owned gem! Ceviche was on point and the spicy potatoes were delicious. Super authentic too. Chupe de Camerones was a piece of heaven. Seriously. Prices are also fairly reasonable and the service is fantastic too. Really love this spot and love that it's owned by neighbors. They treat you like fam! Will be coming back on the regular!
google avatar

Marlyn C.

Yelp
Peruvians probably have some of the best food I've ever tasted. The fact that I've been in Peru for a week and on and off for a month their authentic flavor is hard to find here in the US. This spot is near my house and I had to try it. I cut some people off to bust a u-turn here. After this World Cup México loss I just had to come eat my feelings and what better way to do that than with one of my favorite foods. I came to the restaurant and had such a warm greeting. I looked at the menu and requested something that wasn't on there "mariscos saltado" the waitress kindly said let me talk to the chef and let me see what we can do. Then she came right back and said we can do that for you! The chef even consulted a couple of different ways he could do it for me! I am beyond happy with my food even got some salsas brought out to me. I can't wait to be back to try their ceviche which I bet is just as good. I saw them bring out their pollo a la brasa which also smelled and looked great. I am so happy this place is here! Give them a look! Great service and great food!
google avatar

Shankar N.

Yelp
Amazing Peruvian food experience! The beautiful flavors came out in their dishes and good portions! Will be back for sure!
google avatar

Valeska G.

Yelp
The polloa la brasa was really good and at a good price they were very fast in getting my order ready

Joseph A.

Yelp
Tried this place for the first time. Not sure how long they've been here. This is first rate comfort food. I'd definitely come back and mix it in my lunch rotation.

Sandra O.

Yelp
DELICIOUS!!! Had the anticuchos they were so tender and tasty. The Tacu Tacu con salsa de Mariscos is like eating soul food- so comforting! Husband had the Bistek a lo pobre and he loved it! Meat was tender, juicy and tasty. And last we had a good strong coffee, not made for watered down coffee lovers! With some Picarones, we had to order twice they were that good! Pictures do not do any justice. The price is worth good food.
