The 10 Best Burritos In LA - Los Angeles - The Infatuation

"Want to experience surf and turf at its most sexy? Order the Mar y Tierra burrito at Saby’s, a family-run Mexican restaurant that flies under the radar in Mar Vista. The thin flour tortilla they use is just stretchy enough to contain layers of tomato-stained rice, grilled onions and peppers, crispy breaded shrimp, and asada that’s expertly seared on all sides, plus a squirt of chipotle crema that glues it all together. Getting it all in one bite is key—so plan a precise angle of attack and prepare for a little jaw-stretching." - sylvio martins, cathy park, garrett snyder

At Saby's, Mexican comfort foods are made with care - Review - Los Angeles - The Infatuation

"The moment you walk into Saby’s and smell cafe de olla and chorizo mingling in the air you'll realize you're in for a comforting meal. This family-owned daytime spot in Mar Vista makes delicious Mexican breakfast and lunch staples from scratch, like the blue corn tortillas used in their football-sized quesadillas and the pulpy salsas spooned over the huevos divorciados. If you pull up to Saby’s counter for lunch, order the mar y tierra burrito, which is one of LA’s best burritos. It’s tightly packed with breaded shrimp and charred asada, so you get double the crispiness, all doused in a tangy chipotle crema. photo credit: Sylvio Martins Food Rundown Quesadilla You can choose what grilled protein you want in this enormous quesadilla, but we prefer grilled mushrooms to keep it light. This thing is hefty: Saby’s fills this behemoth with tons of milky quesillo that stretches like taffy when you cut into it. The crema, cotija sprinkle, and shredded lettuce add all the brightness and crunch you want in a balanced quesadilla, too. photo credit: Sylvio Martins Mar Y Tierra Burrito It’s rare for a burrito to stop us in our tracks. This one does. The flour tortilla is thin but chewy, the tomato-y rice is fluffy, you get tons of crunch from the breaded shrimp and charred asada, plus delicious smoke from the grilled onions and peppers. Saby’s is also generous with its tangy, runny chipotle crema that glues it all together. photo credit: Sylvio Martins" - Sylvio Martins

Google
Loved this place! The food was fresh, flavorful, and served hot. The chilaquiles were delicious, the eggs were perfect, and the coffee hit the spot. Friendly service and cozy vibes make it an ideal way to start the day. Definitely coming back!

Google
Delicious chips and blue corn tortilla. Flavor is nice. Quality is great. I just can’t justify paying 80$ for two people for Mexican food. 5 tacos rice beans guacamole.

Linda S.

Google
Fast and delicious. Exactly what I wanted, no frills huevos rancheros with just the right amount of spice. The tomato sauce was light and did not overbear flavors of the dish.

Jordan J.

Google
This one was a clear step up. Solid, flavorful, and put together with care. The breakfast burrito and the chipotle one both had good texture and balance. You could tell the ingredients were meant to be together. There was a sauce inside that helped pull everything together, which made it way more cohesive than other burritos I’ve had lately. The tortilla held up well, and the overall portion was fair. The only thing that threw the flavor off a bit for me was the soy chorizo, but that’s probably just personal taste. I’d give it a solid four out of five. Nothing mind-blowing, but it was genuinely enjoyable. It felt like someone actually thought through the build instead of just tossing ingredients in. I’d order again.

Google
Look, if I got my actual food, I would probably give this place a 5 star rating. The coffees are delicious; a notable favorite being the hoechata (it was yummy). The food took a while to arrive since it was Sunday lunch (that's not the issue). The issue was that the food runner brought my food out (the receipt on the chips with my name on it) and then took it away, saying that he gave me the wrong order and switched it with another customer's burrito. I had ordered a sweet & sabys breakfast burrito and ended up with the most generic bottom of the barrel steak burrito I have ever had. I took a bite before I processed that this wasn't my order, so I just stuck with it. I'm overall disappointed since I did bring it up to the food runner. Also, the table my friend and I were at had a big umbrella that got toppled over due to the wind AND unstable concrete planter that was its base. It nearly hit both my friend and the people next to us throughout the meal.

Google
Finally got to swing by here and boy was it worth it. the café is small but has outdoor seating, you walk in to order and there's smell of chorizo and eggs in the air. And they have a bunch of fun burrito options and everyone we've had has been dope. Maybe my favorite breakfast burrito now.

Google
Great little spot for some tasty Mexican food and great coffee and juice drinks. Place has a great patio and great vibe. Super cute and the food is authentic too. Def will come back when in area.

Morgan B.

Google
One of my favorite spots in the neighborhood. They truly have some of the best coffee around but the horchata matcha is to die for. You can’t go wrong with the food either. The patio fun to eat and hang and the staff is lovely. 10/10

Yelp
I dream about the Sweet & Saby's breakfast burrito. It is so dang good. The pineapple habanero sauce is amazing and adds a unique flair that no other restaurant has when it comes to breakfast burritos. Not to mention you get bacon AND sausage. They have very tasty coffee drinks too. The horchata latte is my favorite but all of their Spanish inspired coffee drinks are great. The vibes are great here too. They usually have good music playing in the background and seating options on prime Venice Blvd. Perfect for a nice sunny day. Make sure to listen for your name when you order at the restaurant.

Yelp
I went here with a friend after a hike around 1pm on a Friday afternoon and it was still really busy! Their menu is on a QR code and you order at the counter. They do many takeout orders as well. It took ~30 minutes for our food to come out after ordering. We shared the sweet and sabys breakfast burrito as well as the loaded fries. The burrito was very tasty and hit the spot after a hike. It comes with a pineapple habanero sauce which I unfortunately didn't really taste except for 1 or 2 bites. I would probably pass on the loaded fries next time, they were standard but not outstanding and this place is really known for their burritos. Their drinks are really delicious - we tried both the horchata latte and the Spanish latte and I liked the cinnamon flavor of the Spanish one more. Street parking only. Seating is mainly outdoors with a few chairs inside.

Yelp
I was told this place had the best breakfast burritos in LA! We stopped by here on a Saturday morning and waited about 25 min to order and then 10 min to get our food. I tried the chorizo chipotle breakfast burrito, and it's definitely worth the wait and the hype- it was soooo good! I grabbed an iced matcha too but had a feeling it wouldn't be good here, and sadly I was right. I had two sips of the matcha, and immediately spit out clumps of unwhisked matcha.... I ended up throwing the rest of the drink away and going elsewhere. Definitely worth visiting this place for the burritos, but pls do NOT get their matcha!!!

Yelp
Food: 3.5/5 Service: 4/5 Ambiance: 4/5 Stopped by to get breakfast here. Parking is just street parking and it could be challenging. Order Mexican burritos. They have nice seating areas outside. Taste is ok. Portion is on a smaller side for how much they charge. If I come back, I would try something else.
google avatar

Richie D.

Yelp
I tried their cappuccino, for less than $5, it's solid! I gotta come back and try their breakfast like their burritos! Friendly staff and chill ambiance with soft music playing. Support local Hispanic businesses!
google avatar

Angela A.

Yelp
my favorite things here are the fish tacos. i usually get two, one grilled and the other fried. they come in a house-made blue tortilla, topped with a cabbage slaw and their chipotle, mayo sauce. these two generously sized tacos fill me up and hit the spot just right. my son loves their breakfast burritos, with bacon, potato and cheese. i miss their pan dulces and wish they'd bring them back. what's been new here for quite some time now is their coffee menu, which i have yet to try!

Yelp
This was my first time ordering from Saby's and It was truly a disappointment. I ordered the O.G. breakfast burrito with no meat. First off the burrito was very small. Also it was kind of dry with not much flavor. Needless to say I will not be ordering from Saby's again. At least not a burrito.
google avatar

Valerie F.

Yelp
Breakfast burritos were soooo yummy the flavors were so good but the only downside is the wait time we did wait a while for our food to be ready if you don't have any other morning plans though I'd suggest this spot!
google avatar

Yelp
Best refried beans I have had in forever. Incredible flavor. Had the huevos rancheros (fantastic) and pancakes with fruit (very good). Darling neighborhood corner cafe, very dog friendly and dog inhabited. Dogs and more dogs. I have seriously been sleeping on this spot. Ordered inside, grabbed our number, no issue finding a table outside (limited indoor seating, so deal) for Sunday brunch. Really nice people. The food is excellent. It's very busy, small kitchen and they are working hard. Best to chill and relax, maybe order ahead if in a rush. I will be headed back soon for a breakfast burrito.

Yelp
my friend and i ordered food this morning from Sabys. It was my first time here and i was greatly impressed. I ordered the regular breakfast with eggs, bacon, toast, and house potatoes. The eggs cooked absolutely perfectly, the potatoes were to DIE for (i could eat a bowls worth), the toast was so yummy too. I also got an ice spanish latte and it was delicious!! i cant wait to come back.

Yelp
Only place I know that can continually mess up three orders in a row via uber eats. Long wait times, food is cold by the time it gets to you. I've waiting over an hour and a half twice to receive my food 2.1 miles away and they managed to incorrectly package my order and leave items out three times. At this point it has to be their restaurant, as a frequent user of UBER EATS I've never had more issues from a place. Do yourself a favor and either starve or treat yourself to anything else to avoid the frustration. If this place was a human being, I'd approach it like Will Smith to Chris Rock.

Catherine C.

Yelp
Food was fine, but two bites in and we found a long black hair completely embedded in the chipotle breakfast burrito we got to go. So disappointing and a complete appetite killer. Gross.
google avatar

Hailey C.

Yelp
Yummy yum yum yummerz - my friend gets the chipotle burrito all the time. I got the vegan tacos(delicious! A little expensive for what they are but homemade tortillas are so good). Your order inside then seat yourself. Ours came out so fast at 12:30 pm on a saturday. Cute seating :)
google avatar

Yelp
Hits every time. Get the breakfast burrito you will not regret it Thank you for being a staple of the neighborhood we love you !
google avatar

Yelp
Since there are no reviews for my gluten free people I figured I'd leave one! They recently added gluten free tortillas to their menu and it's really really good. Didn't fall apart or anything. Got the chipotle chicken burrito and I could only finish half-great portion. Def try this out if you're missing a solid gluten free burrito in your take out needs in LA

Yelp
I was in the area for a wellness event and the smell from this cafe was incredible so we stopped by afterward. The place itself is on the corner and small. The majority of the seating is outdoors and there's a good variety of coffee. I was in the mood for a breakfast burrito so I got the Azteca and my bf got the Mexican breakfast burrito. We didn't get any coffee as we got coffee from Saba surf. The breakfast burritos come out with a side of tortilla chips and red or green salsa. We both got green salsa, which was yummy. The breakfast burritos tasted OK. It didn't seem to have much seasoning. I would've preferred more salt or more salsa. I'll be back to try the coffee and something else on the menu.

Yelp
First time during ciclavia. Will be coming back for more. I got the sweet & sabys bfast burritos and the little latte. So good. Fresh ingredients
google avatar

Carl R.

Yelp
This place is amazing and I'm torn to give it another great review because it's getting so crowded. But it's worth the wait in the staff and the food and there's outside seating! So many food items to eat from here
google avatar

Patricia S.

Yelp
Family business and feels so cozy coming into such a cute ambiance! Vibes are flowing with much culture. Delicious and fresh food. Creative drinks you cannot find elsewhere...even their matcha is excellent...nonetheless all their coffee drinks!

Yelp
Saby's is a cafe on Venice Blvd with a nice outdoor space. My friend and I came here for breakfast on a weekend morning. There was plenty of street parking when we arrived and we found a spot easily. We were greeted upon walking in and staff were friendly throughout our time there. The inside of the cafe is small with a few bar seats against one of the walls and there are lots of plants everywhere which add a nice touch. We ordered at the front. My friend got the Channel Orange Latte and Breakfast Tacos while I got the Blue Corn Latte and Rancheros Divorciados. After ordering, we found a table outside to sit at. Our coffees were served through a window on the side of the cafe while our entrees were brought to us by a server. Everything came out quickly and looked delicious. The sauces in the Rancheros Divorciados were flavorful and the eggs were runny. We both enjoyed our lattes and could taste the blue corn and orange in each respectively. Overall, giving Saby's Coffee and Kitchen a 4/5. There are a lot of options for food on the menu and there are unique flavors for drinks. Food is solid and service is good. Wouldn't go out of my way to come here but would visit again if in the area. Would recommend to anyone looking for a breakfast or brunch spot.
google avatar

Ana M.

Yelp
I arrived at Saby's around 12:50 and ordered two tacos. I got them at 1:42. I couldn't even go to the bathroom to wash my hands. They don't have Horchata. Overall disappointed.
google avatar

Will X.

Yelp
Saby's Cafe enters the breakfast fray with a solid breakfast burrito of its own on the Westside. What helps set Saby's apart in the game is the micro cuts of fixins - little cubes of potatoes and square of bacon alongside egg, all well cooked and distributed. While the burrito isn't as gargantuan as some others, it is reasonable priced vs others on the Westside. The OG Burrito is a decent one, but I would recommend the California one or get salsa if you are going with the OG as halfway though, it'll taste a bit one-toned and salty since there's nothing sweet (avocado) or acidic (salasa) to cut through it.
google avatar

Yvonne D.

Yelp
If you like a breakfast burrito, then look no further! The chipotle, chorizo burrito sent me to the moon and in a good way! The salsa red one is spicy, hot and heavenly, chips perfect crunch. A horchata latte to wash it down and then call it a day! Soooooo good
google avatar

Gabe C.

Yelp
This small restaurant is doing it right! I haven't tried anything I didn't enjoy. So far this burrito is my favorite. Crispy shrimp and perfectly charred asada grilled with expertise. Show them love and try it out! You won't regret it! The lady behind the counter was extremely helpful and kind.

Imelda P.

Yelp
Their breakfast burritos are scrumptious! The freshly squeezed orange juice hits the spot! I've only ordered for delivery so I can't comment on the service or ambiance - although I do see they have a cute out door eating arrangement when I pass by it. One day I'll be sure to eat at their location. I highly recommend Saby's if you're looking for a really good breakfast burrito!!

Myley C.

Yelp
When I ordered my food, they said it would approximately be around 30 to 45 minutes. My food never came out till one hour and 20 minutes later they left my food waiting for me. They never handed it out. It was warmer when I got it. I ordered a chicken burrito with onions and mayonnaise. The burrito is waiting that long the chicken was hard and not good. I ate 1/2 of the burrito and the other half I couldn't eat because it was so bad. The quality of the chicken was very bad. The service was very bad. They didn't put mayonnaise on it. they kept telling me they didn't have mayonnaise so I asked one of the guys that couldn't really speak English, and he gave me some mayonnaise this place is not professional and the quality of the food is no good The restaurant itself inside was dirty. I wish I could give this zero stars but unfortunately you have to rate so I'm going to give it a one star
google avatar

Ryan C.

Yelp
I really wanted to like this place. But they gave me the wrong breakfast burrito and then tried to tell me it was my fault...until the receipt was shown and it was indeed the wrong order that was handed to me. I was then offered a new burrito with a small discount solely because I had a few bites of the first one before realizing it contained items I did not ask for. Unacceptable and insulting to be asked to pay to have the correct item when it was a kitchen error. I had to throw away the burrito and was only given a partial refund after waiting 30 minutes for the wrong order. I was thinking about going back another day to try this place but realized that I have never been somewhere that is so stingy and lacking in customer service. The least that one can do is take accountability for your own mistakes and remake the correct order free of charge...McDonalds does better in this regard. There are dozens of other places to get breakfast burritos in LA so maybe look elsewhere!

Peter B.

Yelp
Saby's is one of my new favorite breakfast spots. I love breakfast burritos so I had to get the Chipotle Breakfast Burrito, which didn't disappoint. My wife got the Buenos French Toast and that was also delicious. We both got the Hoechata Latte and loved it. Bonus points for it being dog-friendly. If you're on the west side definitely check out Saby's!
google avatar

Zach A.

Yelp
This place was straight up bad, I don't usually find a place with no redeeming qualities but this was one. Got there and there's no menu. They have a QR code at the register so you have to shimmy past everyone in line in a small space and get the QR code. I ordered a oaxocan breakfast burrito and an orange juice ($7!). My friend ordered a breakfast burrito and a latte. They told us they would bring our food out, but the lattes come out of a window. So we had to go stand awkwardly by that window right next to a bunch of patrons like weirdos and wait for the drink to come out before we could go sit down. Then we go sit and the food takes forever to come out. When it finally does, the burritos are tiny. The waitress says she will bring salsa for our chips, but never does. The breakfast burrito was so bland I could only eat half of it. The orange juice was incredibly pulpy which wasn't bad, but it was not cold. It was lukewarm. Frankly one of the worst dining experiences I've had. Go anywhere else.
google avatar

Erika A.

Yelp
Are. You. Friggin. Kidding me!! We eat breakfast burritos all over town and it has been awhile since we have had one that has blown our mind but holy crap voila it has been discovered lol. We built our own with the bacon, onion, tomato, cilantro, mushroom, cilantro aioli and removed the potato. It was huge and heavy, split it with my husband and he stared me down to see if I was going to finish it because most times I leave some but not today! lol. Bravo. The pics of the other brekky dishes look insane also. My husband can't stop saying holy s*** over this. YUMMMMMM thanks Sabys you will be seeing us again very soon!

Soleil A.

Yelp
delicious food i got a burrito i do wish there was a tad more bacon but salsa unreal, good vibe and music! and sweet staff!
google avatar

Yelp
Really cool surf vibe, right off of Venice Blvd. Will for sure become one of the coffee shops on rotation. Staff was super friendly, and the coffee was incredible.
google avatar

Jilly B.

Yelp
I love trying local new places and this one did not disappoint we stopped by on a bike ride home from the beach j. Food was great my taco was delicious, service was friendly and helpful. Not pictured was my quesadilla that was soooooo good!! It's large , blue corn tortilla, lettuce, tomato's, sour cream, cheese. Has a very authentic vibe will definitely be coming back.

Yelp
Best horchata I've ever had! All the staff is so friendly! LOVE coming to Saby's first thing in the morning and sitting outside.
google avatar

Yelp
Some of the best fried fish with chipotle I've had! I got the tacos but asked them to hold the tortillas and put it on more cabbage to make it keto. Delicious!!!

Yelp
Saby's Kitchen & Coffee is the kind of spot that feels like a warm hug. The food is full of heart--homemade, comforting, and bursting with flavor. Their coffee is smooth and strong (just how I like it!), and pairs perfectly with anything on the menu. I tried the huveos rancheros and it was so satisfying. The staff is sweet, the vibes are relaxed, and you can tell everything is made with love. Whether you're stopping in for a quick coffee or a full meal, Saby's never disappoints.
google avatar

Denis K.

Yelp
This small yet powerful eatery has the ideal hybridized menu for those who love a high quality traditional Mexican menu met with the guilty pleasure of Los Angeles trendy coffee drinks. On Sunday, it's packed with a busy kitchen, full tables, and copious amounts of uber eats orders so do yourself a favor and place an order online 30mins or so before hand. If you're hungover or post surf sesh, this is the way. All of the coffee gets a thumbs up across the board. The horchata latte is A+, and I would advise the extra shot of espresso.
google avatar

Matt K.

Yelp
Sabys rules - best breakfast burritos in the area, guaranteed or your money back, 10/10 would recommend

Yelp
Cute little cafe on the corner of Venice. You can tell locals come here a lot, I went for the healthier route and tried the everything wrap which was a nice size for $13 (and it came with chips/salsa). I enjoyed the flavor and it was also filling.
google avatar

John C.

Yelp
I visited for my first time today. I'd give them a 4 1/2 if I could, so I rounded up. I ordered a latte but they said they only have espresso on Saturday and Sundays. So I ordered Chilaquilles with green sauce and walked across the street to get my latte. When I got back, my order was ready. I topped it with their hot sauce, and dug in. It was delicious. I plan to try the fish tacos next time I visit.

Lexi N.

Yelp
Bomb burritos. Super fat, enough for two servings in one burrito. Sauces were so good. I loved the chipotle one. The price is worth it. Must try!

Yelp
I can't say enough about this place. Not only is it walking distance from my house, but it has endured being across the street from two good restaurants, it made it through Covid, and it went through a renovation and came out on top. If you'd like Oaxacan food, this is the place for you. Always fresh and fast you'll find a homemade Pan Dulce and Café de la olla. The, the people behind the counter, and the chefs in the back are all very friendly and welcoming. A very special little girl works there, and is always so pleasant and greets you with a wonderful smile. I've tried many things here, but my standouts are; The green chiliquiles, just make sure if you get these to go to ask them to put the sauce on the side. Otherwise you get soggy chips by the time you get home. I usually just sit outside in their quaint little eating area and enjoy them. The breakfast burrito is solid and consistently good. Potatoes, eggs and sausage are my favorite. The chicken taquito is large enough that you just need one and perfectly crispy with onions, lettuce and sour cream on top. Yum. I love this place and I'm so happy that it made it through Covid! Go, check it out. Street parking, easy to go food or dine outside.

Yelp
i'm actually obsessed with saby's breakfast burritos. please try the chipotle breakfast burrito if you haven't! it's soooo good. comes with chicken, avocados, potatoes, cheese, and it's just as amazing as the first time each time i come back. definitely pair with the red salsa for some spice. also tried the machaca burrito, which has steak. i like the bell peppers inside, but would still choose the chipotle breakfast burrito over any other option on the menu. service is always quick and friendly. my boyfriend and i are indecisive sometimes with what to order as our second entree, but the workers are so patient and helpful in answering our questions. the decor inside is artsy and tasteful. love the neon sign and the trinkets on the wall. seating inside is limited but there are tons of patio tables outside the building.
google avatar

Krystal H.

Yelp
I had no idea this place existed until a friend who grew up in the area told me about them. Last weekend I decided to give them a try. I ordered their breakfast wrap to go Man from the description of the wrap I did not expect it to be as big a it was lol A tortilla filled with eggs, brown beans, and lettuce. It was super filling and had great light and refreshing flavors. They give you a red and green salsa and tortilla chips. The red salsa was spicy and smokey. The green had great flavor (im partial to green salsa over red) Lots of street parking available as it's on venice blvd but next to a residential neighborhood Service was quick and the counter guys were nice and friendly The restaurant itself is a little small but overall a good little spot to get some tasty mexican food
google avatar

Yelp
We stopped based on Yelp reviews as we are not from the area. I didn't like that it was a QR code menu, especially when it's such an active spot. I can't scroll and find what I want fast enough. I ordered at the register and was interrupted about 4 times from UberEats people. That was incredibly frustrating as I was clearly there first. The lady taking the order kept stopping to help them. I finally placed my order and walked outside. I waited a while and my drink never came out. I looked at my receipt and she never typed it in even thought I repeated it twice due to the interruptions. So I had to get back in line to order the drink. The wait was also long for food but she did warn me it would be about 35 mins. The food was a miss along with the prices and forced tip.

Karen H.

Yelp
My Fav mexican, whenever we eat anywhere else ew also say how does this compare to Sabys! THE BEST breakfast burrito....in fact all their food is great, doesn't feel oily, is authentic and tastes awesome. It's got a cute very small inside area with mostly seating outside. I generally do take out.

Yelp
Amazing breakfast burritos! Good value for what you get. Ordered ahead and easy to pick up.

Yelp
How did we miss this place? They opened 4 years ago during the pandemic and we've always noticed it, but had never stopped by. This is just across the street from the very popular and overcrowded Blueys. We had been the prior restaurant here which was just "ok" and just assumed this place was more of the same. I'm so glad we decided to try again! Well, I have to say it's better than Blueys and I think this will be our new breakfast spot for awhile. Everything is fresh, homestyle, but also made with quality ingredients and preparation. I'd say this is a bit more boutique modern vs classic mexican breakfast. The staff was super friendly and helpful with suggestions. We ended up ordering: - Horchata coffee: Excellent! Well balanced rich horchata flavor with a fresh lime zest on top - Huevos rancheros: My wife ordered this, I'm normally not a fan, but this dish was amazing. Probably the best huevos rancheros I've had. Two perfect eggs on top of two crispy tortillas and drenched in sauce. We'll come back for this alone! - Chipotle breakfast burrito: Good but not amazing. Everything was good to the point that I will still come back and try all of their other burritos. - French toast: Surprisingly good dish! not fluffy or overly buttery like traditional french toast, but on concha bread smashed thin and smothered in bananas, berries, and light coating of dulce de leche. - Juices are fresh as home squeezed juice. Hot sauces and salsas were tasty too! We couldn't stop looking at what everyone else was ordering as it came out. This is definitely the type of spot where you'd want to come back and keep trying all of the items on the menu. Looking forward to coming again.

The deco is very nice. A coffee drink blue corn was not available and the menu wasnt updated. The lady who took the order looked annoyed & bothered when I asked about the coffee menu. She was not approachable. No friendliness. Not even a smile. However she made the drink good.
