At first I had sympathy for the store closing. But today I understood that with the nasty attitudes of some of those workers only god knows why it lasted this long. The meat in the meat section is screaming E. coli and pure foodborne illness. I literally was staring at the meat sitting in Stillwater showcasing and it was very unbelievable …where is the health department. Not to mention the two long lines, and when the cashier finally open up one line, I rush to get my purchase out, and he was just tossing my food down to the girl bagging my items into which I had to tell him I hope he has that attitude at the unemployment office because that behavior was nasty. If you don’t wanna come to work call out sick if you can’t be in customer service go stock the shelves in the back respectfully. It is eight in the morning.

This place is 200% trash bathroom doesn't work you literally don't feel safe outside only two doors open in the entire store due to people stealing so much they have to keep doors closed at all times the area is super sketchy you want to take all your stuff with you or if you're probably get broken into although they do have their hot and ready meals and their Deli pretty good which is surprising but no excuse for all the other discrepancies including no bathroom! I am a driver and come here for lunch and extremely rely on the bathroom everyday of course there's so mini bums and poverty all around that they can't even have the bathroom open they lock it tight and shut and it also looks like a back alley back there where the bathrooms at disgusting. Do better Safeway I absolutely love coming to your stores.

I’ve been coming to this store for over four years, and spending my hard-earned money regularly. I almost always have bags with me to carry my purchases out and avoid the bag fee. Today, upon entering the store, I was ordered by security to leave my bags by the door and that I could return with my purchases to the door to then place them in the bags I brought, or I could purchase new ones. Congratulations. I will never return to this store and you will never again get any of my money. If alienating customers was your goal, you achieved it in spades.

I have been purchasing groceries from this location for at least 5 years. It is close to a Popeyes chicken restaurant. As I understand, it is scheduled to close in February 2025 which will mean traveling farther to grocery shop.

Good I wish they would close every store that is incapable of preventing thefts even with security it's rediculous I use to work at luckys and had to watch people steal all day and couldn't do nothing about it,it was so irritating and rediculous to see and sfpd came 1 time every 4 months to do a sting operation with the thefts like I said rediculous and annoying asf

The Safeway in the Fillmore District has served the community for decades, and while it's unfortunate that it will be closing, this property presents an incredible opportunity for redevelopment that could greatly benefit the area. The first of which is transforming the current Safeway building into a 99 Ranch Market, because it would meet the grocery needs of nearby residents, especially Japantown, while bringing an exciting selection of Asian goods to the area. The second would be turning the parking lot space into a mixed-use development that features residential condos and ground-floor retail. The retail spaces could host vibrant Japanese restaurants like an Izakaya, Ramen shop, and Kissaten, along with a Chinese restaurant, creating a cultural and culinary hub for locals and visitors. This redevelopment would maximize the use of the property while enhancing the Fillmore District’s vibrancy and connection to Japantown. A project like this could offer housing, community spaces, and dining options, making it a valuable asset for the neighborhood. I hope the developers consider ideas like these to create a space that serves both the Fillmore District and Japantown while respecting their unique history and culture.

Good luck finding any produce without mold already growing on it. The conditions here are 🤢. I rather shop ANYWHERE besides this location, and I live next door.

Decent selection, plenty of parking, but long lines and no self checkout. Even though I'm not a fan of this Safeway, it's clearly an important resource for the community and should stay open.
