Phoenix’s 12 Best Indian Restaurants - Eater Phoenix

"The mantra at Saffron is food made the old fashioned way. The kebabs are handmade and the meats are fresh and not frozen. The menu also boasts Indo-Chinese dishes such as Hakka noodles and gobi Manchurian. Guests shouldn’t leave without trying the saffron biryani with subtle hints of fragrance flavoring a choice of protein — lamb, shrimp, or chicken." - Rudri Patel

Google
The food was decent, but it lacked authentic Indian spices. While all the other ingredients were present, the essence of Indian flavor was missing. This place might appeal more to those who prefer milder tastes. Also, the restroom doodle—what exactly are they trying to convey about India? It felt a bit off.

Google
I honestly don’t even know where to begin. My friends and I decided to check out this Indian restaurant based on a recommendation, but it turned out to be a complete disaster from start to finish. First off, the service was absolutely terrible. The young Asian guy serving us was completely uninterested and rude. It took forever to get anyone’s attention, and when we did, it was like we were a burden to him. On top of that, there was some private party going on in the back, and the owners seemed more focused on their own get-together than on actually running the restaurant. The group was loud, obnoxious, and, to be honest, they didn’t seem to care at all about the other diners. There was this one large Indian woman , possibly related to the owner, going in and out of the kitchen, who was the worst of the bunch. She was practically throwing her weight around annd not least bothered about others. Yelling across the restaurant, and when they all stood up to say goodbye to their friend, they hovered over our table, cackling loudly, making us feel extremely uncomfortable. Now, let’s talk about the food. Honestly, it was one of the worst meals I’ve had in a long time. We drove all the way from Page, excited to try some authentic Indian food, but it was just awful. The papdi chaat was a joke—basically plain, unseasoned boiled potatoes smashed on top of some papad with a dollop of yogurt. That’s it. No flavor, no spice, nothing. The naan basket kept tipping over because the naans were so big and the basket was so small (and the naan itself wasn’t even good). The chicken tikka was disgusting—cheap quality ingredients, bland, and poorly cooked. I really don’t understand how anyone could actually enjoy this food, especially when it’s supposed to be Indian cuisine. It’s honestly shocking that this place is still open, with how bad everything was. The empty chairs and tables speak for themselves—no one in their right mind would keep coming back after a visit like this. We won’t be returning, and I wouldn’t recommend it to anyone. Save yourself the disappointment and find somewhere else.

STOP!! Do not eat here! I’m not one to leave a knee-jerk bad review. But this was a terrible food experience. We ordered through Uber Eats, so I won’t comment on anything about the service or atmosphere. But the food was really not good. The samosas were the only average, palatable part of our order. They weren’t extraordinary, but they weren’t terrible. And if everything else had been delicious, I would have been happy with them. Everything else, however, was not delicious. It was very disappointing. The naan was completely unremarkable. Had the look and consistency of a pancake, and the garlic tasted bad from (a) not being toasted long enough on the naan, and (b) being from a jar (which would be fine, if it were toasted long enough). The “korma” tasted like Chef Boyardee - which is crazy, because korma shouldn’t even contain tomato. Ever. And it even had canned green beans in it. Like, what?? (See photos) The butter chicken was slightly better, but still mostly terrible. Both sauces were EXTREMELY thin, to the point of being watery. And the chicken in both was very obviously precooked, pre-grill-marked, and from-frozen. (See photo) We barely ate either dish. Both entree photos are what was left AFTER we had eaten what we could stomach. I sincerely hope this place stops serving food.

Google
We were on the search for vegan dishes and stumbled upon this little spot. Ordered the Saffron Biryani with lamb ($20). The bowl was HUGE! Probably good for 4 people. Needless to say I didn't finish it and had lots of leftovers. Everything is Ala carte. We ordered the coconut curry and rice as it came with no rice. It was very tasty. The Naan was perfectly cooked. Not burnt Ordered hot chai and a lemonade with ginger. Everything was amazing but the best part was our server, Shea. She took very good care of us and was checking on us often to make sure we had everything we needed. Will definitely be back!

Google
Nice, clean place with friendly staff. However the food was mediocre. Butter Chicken was good, but weirdly on the sweet side. The Samosa Chaat was the best dish we ordered. Unfortunately, the Saag Paneer was flavorless; there were very few chunks of cheese or chicken in either; and the naan was so sad (soggy & barely flavored). I was super disappointed since the appetizer, 2 entrees, 3 naan, and small side of rice was over $60 with tip.

Google
Look people I’m telling you to run to this place don’t walk. If you’ve never had Indian food go here if you’ve had Indian food 1000 times go here!!! If you love good good go here. We tried a little of everything on the menu and nothing disappointed. My picky 11yr old LOVED everything from the samosa right down to the saag paneer and tikka masala… I could eat their Tandoori chicken everyday of my life in fact if had a last menu I’d pick that with a side of the chili naan… just go and try a little of everything… and if I could give it 100 stars I would 5 stars doesn’t do it justice … BTW, the servers and the owners are some of the nicest people on earth they truly make the place as warm and comforting as the food. Please go you will not be disappointed I promise

Google
I have to say I was pleasantly surprised with the bursting of flavors that was prepared for us. I had the spicy vindaloo with lamb. I asked for medium hot and it was still kind of light so I asked for some extra chili powder and it just turned out right. The owner's wife came and visit our table she was very pleasant and she described the dishes to us and took our order. She happen to remember my sister and brother-in-law from 3 years ago. Very pleasant how she was up selling some of the food it wasn't annoying it was very family oriented approach. If I serve food that good id be up selling it as well. The only thing I think they can improve on is when they charge you for a vegetables the only give you a very little. As far as the reviews concerned that shouldn't stop anyone from tasting these delicious offerings.

Bustling Saturday night around 7…. Uber drivers, diners, phone ringing constantly. We ordered samosas, tandoori chicken, naan, rice, and Chana. Imho, the naan was more like a deep fried tortilla or a very thin, crispy fried bread. Different than what we expected. The staff was very nice and helpful. Our food arrived in stages, I’m assuming due to the many last minute orders being placed. Our tandoori chicken came out first….Btw the mint chutney was delicious. 10 minutes later the Chana, 5-10 mins later the rice. Our chicken was already cold by the time the rest of our food arrived. The kitchen closed down at 7:30. Other diners kept arriving to be turned away due to the early closing time. They lost a few dine ins and phone orders orders that night. The food was good… just wished it would have arrived together as a meal. Not sure we will return.

Yelp
Food was excellent! The chicken could have been cooked a little better Service was great! The person taking the order was kind Ambiance was quiet and cozy like the fresh air

Yelp
The food here is amazing but you know what isn't? When the owner sits at a table with her kids gossiping on the phone about an employee. About writing them up and whatever else she had said to the other on the line. There's a time and place for private conversations and in your own business where customers sit to eat, is not it. The dinning area is an atmosphere that is supposed to be enjoyable, pleasant experience. As the owner, your gossiping should be done at your own home, in your own eating area. This is referring to the lady that ALWAYS sits at the table with her computer. My husband and I have ate there several times but we are at the point where it's uncomfortable. I'll need to strongly consider doing take out from this business for now on.

Yelp
I can not believe that I have not left a review yet. My wife and I have been here a few times and each time is a great experience. This is a hidden gem in the back of a shopping center. When you first come in you are greeted by welcoming staff. Our first time in we were met by one of the owners and she was so helpful. Walked us through the menu, we ended up letting her order for us (highly recommended). The food is all fresh made daily by Sachin the chef. The ambiance is very good with the small family owned restaurant feel. If you have not tried it before you are missing out.

Yelp
Delicious! Our family loves good Indian food-so much so that we have a running list of the Indian restaurants we have tried in each town we visit so we can go back to our favorites whenever we passing through. This one is definitely going on the list. Everything we tried was delicious! We have the Tandori appetizer (moist and well seasoned), the Tikka Masala and the Butter Masala. Spice and flavor were amazing in all of our dishes. We can't wait to go back and try the Indian/Asian fusion dishes.
google avatar

Yelp
We ordered the Shrimp Korma. We are very particular about this dish because we have been to amazing places serving this dish in the past (for example, the famous Flagstaffs Delhi Palace). Here, it had some veggies such as corns, beans etc, which I believe are not typical from what I've known. Although the overall taste was not too bad, but it is also different and not as flavorful from the typical Indian Korma we have had.

John R.

Yelp
The food was very good and we all enjoyed it a lot. Service was OK but not great. The ambiance was nice. I recommend it and even if they are a little slow sometimes it's worth it.

Yelp
Prices went up like everywhere but still great food and service. We love the tandoori, bird, sag, paneer, eggplant, dish, and I especially am enamored with the bhatura fry bread! Play session changed over the years small intimate, dining, family, run business watched the owners daughter grow over the years.
google avatar

Yelp
Its much better now and customer service is good and pleasant dining experience is what I felt this time

Yelp
I was in the area and I love Indian food, so I decided to give this place a shot. I ordered my usual which is chicken tandoori, some garlic naan and one samosa. The chicken tandoori was probably the best I have ever had. The flavor was amazing!!! The garlic naan was delicious. It tasted like it was cooked on an open fire. The samosa was also good. I just wished they had Coke Zero. The server got me the menu and took my order right away and let me know the status of my order frequently. The place is very simple inside and has some big numbers painted on the wall which I didn't understand it's meaning or purpose. I will definitely comeback when I am on the west side again.

Yelp
I live in Mesa but Saffron is worth the 45 min drive! There's nothing like this restaurant in the East valley. Service is fast, friendly, and the restaurant is clean, modern, and comfortable. The naan and paneer wrap are to die for. You won't regret grabbing a bite to eat here. Once you do, you'll be hooked!

Kirsten P.

Yelp
Had dinner at Saffron last night. I've been there many times before, but this time I brought 4 Indian food newbies for a birthday dinner. The restaurant was packed, but we got a table immediately. We were told that there was only one waitress working and that it could be a little wait for our food. We appreciated the information up front, sat down and enjoyed some drinks. We didn't end up waiting too long. The food was INCREDIBLE! We tried a wide variety of dishes (for the newbies) and each of them delivered. My friends loved it! We had a visit from the owner - who is incredibly lovely. She sat and talked with us for a while and even gave the birthday girl a sweet treat on the house! Overall, it was a delightful evening!

Adriana T.

Yelp
I called and made a reservation for 17 people for my daughter's birthday. They accommodated us all and the service was great. The food was amazing! The owners were very kind and attentive. Did I mention the food? Chef's kiss! We will definitely be going back. Best Indian Food I have had since leaving the UK.

Yelp
When we're craving Indian food, Saffron is our go to place. We haven't dined in so this review is for the take out. They are always very polite and have good service when ordering over the phone and when we pick up. The food is so good. We love their samosas, malai kofta, chicken masala and their Naan. So yummy! The place always looks packed for dinner so we order take out instead.
google avatar

Saroj S.

Yelp
Excellent food and service. Sachin is one of the finest cooks for Indian cuisine. Try Lamb Chop and Chicken Biryani here..
google avatar

Kate H.

Yelp
I met a friend here for lunch one day and we were both craving Indian food. This place did the trick for us and satisfied our craving. The staff were friendly, the positions were large, and the food was overall delicious. I got a the spicy vindaloo with lamb plus garlic naan. My friend got the butter marsala with chicken. The spicy vindaloo was a blend of many flavors and spices. I love how when you get the lamb as your meat option there are no bones. If you ever got lamb at an Indian restaurant you know you have to watch out for those bones. Here you don't! I do recommend getting two naans. They are large, but they give so much curry you'd need another for leftovers. The only reason why I deducted one star is because the curry was a lot more liquidy than I'm used to. Other than that the food was phenomenal and the staff was extremely helpful and nice. If you were like me and needed an Indian food fix, look no further and go here. Enjoy!
google avatar

Brenda B.

Yelp
Great service! Amazing home made everything! Even the spices and Paneer! We will go back time and time again even though it's a 45 minute drive from our home. The owner even came to our table to check on us!
google avatar

Kay C.

Yelp
Delicious food as always. The mattar paneer, chicken tikka masala, so amazing. Samosas and Naan also delicious. I'm sure everything else is equally wonderful but we always have to order our favorites. Haven't dined in but definitely will.
google avatar

Mansi S.

Yelp
First time trying them after seeing the great reviews. Food was hit or miss. Garlic naan was not good 1/5. It was undercooked and didn't have fresh garlic. Honestly the frozen garlic naan from Trader Joe's is better than what they served. Paneer tikka was pretty good, 4/5. Generous serving size and pretty good flavor. Chaat was also pretty good. Flavor was good but had minimal toppings 3.5/5 Gobi Manchurian lacked flavor 2/5 Overall disappointing experience.
google avatar

Zach H.

Yelp
The lamb vindaloo was amazing. The lamb was so tender and tasty. All three types of naan we got were good. The butter chicken and chicken tiki masala were delicious too. Everything we had but one of the apps would be ordered again.

Beth O.

Yelp
I can't believe I've never given Saffron a review. The food is fresh! Always! The flavors are amazing! Service is great! Honestly, the only Indian food I will eat in the valley. Love!!
google avatar

Toby I.

Yelp
I ordered through Uber Eats. It came quickly, and was plenty warm enough. The butter chicken was delicious, as was the Naan, and the rice was perfect, and such a huge amount! I stuffed on delicious Naan and rice! For a medium, the chicken was a little too spicy for me. I called the restaurant, and they told me to come eat again, and the now mild butter chicken would be on them. As the Naan and rice were perfectly done and filling, that's all I'd need to pay for on my return visit. I thought that was nice! All in all, i highly recommend this place.
google avatar

Atul S.

Yelp
The very nice and welcoming staff here. Small area but has a good amount of seating. Service is super fast and staff checks on the customer regularly. Food is not the best of Indian options but there are a couple of things that taste very good like samosas. Prices are not very reasonable here and you may get cheaper options at other Indian restaurants. I would recommend trying it once at least as food is okay here.
google avatar

B H.

Yelp
My husband and I picked up Coconut Shrimp Curry, Lamb Biryani (2) and Garlic Naan. This is our first time here but love Indian Food, and are so happy with Saffron. The recommended 2 sauces that paired well with the Lamb Biryani. We highly recommend. We will be regulars! Excellent service and very clean.

Yelp
I've just recently discovered Indian food and so far this has been my favorite place! Super cute, family owned and operated, little hidden Gem. The food was fantastic, customer service was great, and we really enjoyed our selves all around. We started with the crispy on the outside, soft on the inside SAMOSA's. It came with tamarind and mint chutney they complimented them perfectly. My son got the children's orange chicken and it was very good and the portion was really big for a kids dish. My brother had the Butter Chicken and I had the Chicken Coconut Curry. Both were velvety smooth, full of flavor, chicken was tender and juicy. We paired everything with their Garlic Naan and rice. I could have eaten a bucket of the Garlic Naan by itself. We cant wait to come back and try more!
google avatar

Mary L.

Yelp
I have gone to this business for years, and don't have one complaint. It is by far my favorite Indian restaurant, and I enjoy the owner, Preeti. My favorite is paneer tikka masala. You could call me a regular.
google avatar

Rachel M.

Yelp
My three positives and a negative because the world needs more positivity: + the papri chaat was spectacular. Perfectly flaky crispy papadam. The pomegranates were a unique touch + hubby and I are huge fans of dal makhani and it did not disappoint. A nice flavor though it could have been a smidge spicier. We tried the hakka noodles. They reminded us of a lo mein and we're a welcome change up to our typical order + the service was prompt and friendly - the malai kofta was just ok. A little bitter
google avatar

Scott A.

Yelp
Got a craving for Indian food on a lazy day, so my wife and I ordered delivery from Saffron Indian Bistro. We ordered shrimp biryani, veggie and paneer pakoras and some chicken coconut curry. Overall the food was excellent and the portions were generous. The shrimp biryani had amazing depth of flavor and the shrimp were absolutely huge and well seasoned themselves. The coconut curry was also amazingly flavorful and the chicken thigh meat was juicy and flavorful. To my surprise, I preferred the vegetable pakoras to their paneer counterparts. I haven't had much experience with paneer outside of adding it to something like saag or a curry - so I'm not sure if my expectations were impacted by that - but I found the paneer pakoras to be dry and chalky vs what I hoped for which would have been crispy outside and slightly more chewy and moist on the inside. The menu on UberEats was pretty limited vs the full menu you can find on the website. Also, I think pricing was a bit aggressive on UberEats, and more reasonable, but still on the pricey side for dine in. That said, as I mentioned previously the portions are generous and the ingredients are good quality, so worth the premium in my book.
google avatar

Leslie A.

Yelp
The food was delicious. Some of the best Indian we had. We got several dishes and they were on point in presentation, taste and texture. The wait staff was super friendly. It was a quiet and chill vibe. Highly recommend.

Brian O.

Yelp
Love this place, food is so flavorful, eat here all the time. I do miss the buffet they had pre Covid. Must Try!

Victoria C.

Yelp
First time , service was helpful and polite. The food was really good and the ingredients tasted real and authentic. Ambiance was clean and well put together ! Thank you, will be going back. Ate our food too quickly for a pic ! lol Tiki masala Tandoori chicken Garlic nan bread Rice

Jane M.

Yelp
This place has the best Indian food I've ever had and the service is very quick. I'm obsessed. Lentils 10/10 Garlic Naan 10/10 Rice 10/10

Yelp
A hidden gem literally nestled in the corner adjacent to Asiana Market. I'm glad I found this place, this is probably the best Indian restaurant in North Phoenix! Authentic Indian recipes curated from owners who are knowledgeable in their cooking techniques. I order the Tandoori Chicken every time, it is phenomenal! The chicken is juicy with a layer of charred skin which adds more flavor and the green chutney dipping sauce is so good! My other favorite is the Saffron Biryani with Chicken, it's extremely fragrant and the long grain rice with the Indian spices suits the dish very well. You can't go to an Indian restaurant and not order Tikka Masala or Garlic Naan - I always order double and dip it in the sauce. What I appreciate most is when my food is cooked fresh, whether it be dine-in or take-out. I ordered to-go on my last visit and was surprised to find my food still steaming hot after a 30 minute drive. That's what keeps me coming back! No pictures taken because I was hungry and I didn't hesitate digging into my food, but you have my word! :D
google avatar

Laurie G.

Yelp
We have been here a few times, and can't wait to return even though it's a 30 minute drive from home. What we love... The food is delicious. The owner/chef is an excellent cook. The hospitality is superior. The owners staff is extremely curtesy's and the owners wife checks in on you to have a friendly chat. Food prices are extremely reasonable. Considering that our economy has taken a hit and a meal at McD's is the same price we use to pay for a restaurant, and the food is delicious, these prices are a steal.
google avatar

Mahsa Y.

Yelp
I love getting the Matter paneer with garlic naan and potato kulcha. The portions are generous and they always package to go very well! Everyone is always super welcoming and nice here!
google avatar

Corey B.

Yelp
Yes this Restraunt is the best Indian restaurant I've been to since ever. Thank You Saffron!!!

I B.

Yelp
This is by far one of our families favorite restaurants. We frequent it because we all enjoy the food so much. Everything is absolutely amazing and the service is excellent. We have loved every dish we have tried and every time we go it's like visiting a friend for lunch. The best service and food. Our go-to are Tandori Chicken, samosas, and the lamb biriyani. If we could try everything we would because every dish is exquisitely crafted and absolutely delicious. A must try! We highly recommend it! Even our son, who is a picky eater, loves it. We look forward to our visit every time. 5 stars all the way! Y'all rock!
google avatar

Patricia B.

Yelp
We are not in this side of town often but found ourselves in the area around dinner time recently. Luckily we found Saffron through Yelp. Angelina was super friendly and the food was great. We went for our Indian restaurant usual, Tikka Masala chicken. Plus Samosas, and per recommendation from Angelina we ordered the Fire Cracker Chicken. All our dishes were great, along with the Garlic Naan. We already came back once, and we plan to visit again. Very good food with a welcoming neighborhood restaurant vibe

Mary D.

Yelp
What a gem! We were delighted with our amazing meal. Our whole group loved the fresh and flavorful foods that was masterfully prepared. Fantastic! Service was so professional and personal. Interior space was so fun and welcoming. This is our new "Go To" spot! Love you guys!!
google avatar

Obese T.

Yelp
My niece wanted Indian, had never tried it and we were off. Before we get to the food, let's talk seating shall we? It's a cozy little place but the seats are wide and sturdy enough to hold wide and large bodies like mine. There is plenty of space to move between tables so no fear there. Now to the food! We started with disappointing news that they had run out of Samosas, one of the items we wanted to taste. Oh well, this was the only disappointment of the night. We ordered Butter Chicken, Hakka Noodles, Chicken Saffron Briyani and Chicken Tikka Masala. Everything was delicious and didn't disappoint. The sauces were so smooth and full of taste! While the Hakka Noodles were on the oily side, we pressed on and devoured them. Y'all should come try this place, it's fantastic.
google avatar

Nick d.

Yelp
Food is amazing. The most authentic, flavorful Indian cuisine. Service is kind and friendly. Really appreciate this gem.

Kim M.

Yelp
Interesting place! Good food. Good service. Brighter and less traditional vibe than usually found. Busy. Next door to the Asiana Market. The only two things that hit us by surprise was that there weren't combo plates which we prefer in order to try new things along w favorites... it was entree by entree...and I didn't love the chai. Would return!
google avatar

Ang B.

Yelp
Their SAMOSAS are heavenly! And you gotta call in the moment they open to claim yours or ya have to wait for the next batch! It's that popular! Their curry dishes hit the spot with their garlic Naans! I believe you'll become one of the returning customers!

Angelica P.

Yelp
What a delicious meal did we enjoyed this weekend. This place served a fantastic paneer butter curry, samosas and naan. We wished we had a big party with us, so we could've shared other dishes. So we are definitely going back to try more items. Also, both the service and the dinning area were great.

Melinda D.

Yelp
Amazing food and great customer service ! This is our favorite Indian cuisine Location.

Kal I.

Yelp
We are regulars at saffron. We love this place. This is probably one of the top 3 Indian restaurants in Phoenix for me. The food is always so fresh, clean. It never disappoints (fingers crossed). The chicken tikka masala and chicken biryani are finger licking good. The pakoras are so fresh and crispy, highly recommend. I love the naan as well. And lastly, the restaurant itself is nice and clean and the service is great. We will definitely continue our visits to saffron!

Rhea K.

Yelp
The most delicious food! I would not go anywhere else for Indian food. I get tandoori chicken, naan, and chicken biryani from here at least twice a month!

Nate L.

Yelp
I'm very selective when trying new restaurants, as food has been my life, career, and passion. Indian food has always been special to me, as I admire when it's done with heart and soul. Owner Sachin is a chef worth honoring. His attention to detail is outstanding and utter perfection. Very few can get on his level. Please stop reading and eat here now. I might give up trying to make Indian food for supper--From now on, I'll fly to Arizona to eat here. I'll never forget this meal. Thank you Sachin for your sacrifice and dedication to your craft.

Sara N.

Yelp
We went here based on a recommendation. It was delicious! The owners wife was helpful in helping me choose options to fit my dietary restrictions (no egg, peanut, wheat, or dairy). She was very knowledgeable with the menu and even had a my meal remade because I forgot to ask for it to be made vegan. Now that is service! We will definitely be going back.
google avatar

Yana T.

Yelp
Love both butter chicken and chicken tikka. Naan bread is also pretty bomb. We usually come here every month.
google avatar

Amber A.

Yelp
This place has really good food and great customer service. I saw who I believe was the owner sitting T a guests table throughly explaining the menu since they were not familiar with Indian food. She made reccs and they went with it. The host Sierra was very attentive although she was the only host/server and she made recommendations which sounds like what a restaurant should do, but you don't get that a lot these days. We had the samosa, the paneer (spinach and cheese) and the coconut curry with veggies and lamb added. We also had the garlic naan (a flat bread) and a mango lassie (Indian yogurt drink). Nothing disappointed and me being such a food/flavor critic this place hit the spot. I cook myself having. A middle eastern and west African background and this place didn't miss. We got all our food at a medium spice level and it wasn't hot at all. If you like spice do hot or very spicy even. We live in Ahwatukee and will commute back to Glendale for this place.
