"Saffron Street is another delivery-only Indian restaurant, operating out of a ghost kitchen in Humboldt Park. The menu is pretty short, focusing mainly on fun sandwiches (like pulled makhani chicken, dal on toast, and spinach grilled cheese on shokupan) and small plates like chaat and okra fries." - adrian kane

As a person who is of South Asian background, this place is both authentic yet modern. Highly recommend! Green chili rice bowl was so good.

Okay this is the best Indian food I had in Chicago. Very limited in variety, but sooo sooo authentic, aromatic, tasty and fresh. The ghee rice combined with their makhani sauce is something I only had this good in India. More people need to try this. So far I have ordered 4 times from this place already. The rice is very well done just like home, very fresh. I think their goal is quality over quantity. You will never get this fresh rice anywhere else. Whoever is cooking and packing is doing it with lots of love and care. You can tell by what your food looks. Cilantro looks fresh, rice has such nice aroma. I think comparing this with any other Indian place would be an insult to the chef. This is some high quality stuff.

Good indian place. Loved their food, their rice bowls are amazing, have tried the keralan chicken bowl which spicy and love it. Also tried their makhni bowl which is delicious and also their parathas. Everything is delicios, this is my go to lunch place. 👍🏻

Tremendously unique and conveniently quick, Saffron Street is a must-try for anyone looking for an exciting lunch option in the loop. I've had several of their 'sandwich' items, and the list keeps growing thanks to their inspired, rotating menu. The only downside is the food comes out so quickly, you only get a few moments with their kind and courteous crew!

Small curated menu with vegetarian options aplenty. The problem for us was we were there at the end of the day when a few of the items we wanted to try were sold out 😕. But the server helped us get something we could eat by mixing and matching what was available. Plus we were informed that the menu changes frequently, so I will be visiting again. What we had was tasty. The sauce is made fresh in house everyday and it was delicious. Masala Fries were good. But they should consider giving more dipping sauce when ordering a full size. Paneer is freshly fried for order. Hazelnut was a nice addition to the sauce, better than the usual peanut.

This place is SO GOOD! Utterly delicious Indian flavors and super unique menu items. Every time I head into the city I eat here and I’ve never been disappointed!

Food here is incredible. Pulled chicken sandwich was amazing. Okra was great. The chaat was good as well however I've never had that before so I have nothing to compare it to; it was incredibly flavorful though. Highly recommend the french toast too. It wasn't aggressively sweet which was nice. Definitely adding this to the growing list of Humboldt go-to lunch spots.

Tried this place for the first time and was pleased with flavor and dishes. Okra fries were a huge hit and the spicy chutney was amazing. Pulled chicken was also delightful. Glad there’s a new option for some tasty Indian food in the Humboldt Park area. Picking up food was a bit different but easy enough: you have to go into a large building/food hall entry(?), check in with a person, then wait for a text. This setup could be limited to only during COVID but might be helpful to know. The building itself is pretty nondescript and the signage may be a bit easy to miss if picking up at night. All in all: delicious food, great spice, will be ordering again soon.

Yelp
Don't listen to the first review. This place is awesome. Highly recommend the kebab meatloaf sandwich. Ambiance is beautiful with it being in the Old Post Office with an outdoor eating area facing the river and an beautiful interior. Service is great as well. One time, they made a custom order for me when they ran out of certain ingredients. Recommend!

Yelp
The first time I tried their chickpea toast it was delicious! The memory of that just lingered for days. So much so that I wanted to try it again the second time. I went later in the afternoon. Unfortunately, my sandwich was doused in oil it was so greasy and the chickpeas were kind of stale and cold, which makes me think that going for lunch there later in the afternoon is not a good idea. I think overall they have an innovative menu, but they have to watch out for how the food is served. Definitely not a sandwich in a puddle of oil. And oh yeah, they make you guilt tip, a crazy practice these days for a fast food place with no table service.
