The 28 Best Brunch Restaurants In Los Angeles - Los Angeles - The Infatuation

"Saffy’s in East Hollywood can be a tricky reservation on the weekends, but you can always opt for brunch next door. The East Hollywood kebab house has a casual café that, starting at 9am, offers a $24 Arabic breakfast set. The spread comes with a skillet of shakshuka and toasted challah with clotted cream, or you can keep things simpler with housemade yogurt sweetened with honey and a few feta-stuffed bourekas with coffee. Show up after 11am, and Saffy’s Coffee & Tea does heartier stuff, too, like warm hummus and lamb brisket pitas." - brant cox, sylvio martins, cathy park

Saffy's Coffee & Tea - Review - East Hollywood - Los Angeles - The Infatuation

"A sexy dinner with the skewer-slingers at Saffy's is fun, but you should also make your way to their casual bakery and cafe next door for breakfast. On weekends, Saffy’s Coffee and Tea serves a full Arabic breakfast spread and it’s more than worth getting out of bed at a reasonable time to go eat. You’ll get spicy shakshuka, brioche challah, clotted cream with honey, marinated olives, and a chopped salad for $24. They’ve also got buttermilk biscuits with housemade jam, potato curry bourekas, and other flaky pastries you can add on to your feast. Just keep in mind that brunch ends at 3pm and all of the seating is outside on their sidewalk patio, so the likelihood of a cute dog spotting is quite high." - Nikko Duren

I was craving for shakshuka for a while so I did some research to find one of the best shakshukas in LA. I finally chose Saffy’s Coffee & Tea and it didn’t disappoint! OMFG Arabic breakfast was to die for. Each dish was flavorful and spectacular. Salad was extremely refreshing. Poached eggs on shakshuka were perfectly cooked and well seasoned. Clotted cream with honey was scrumptious and went very well with challah bread. Finished my meal with potato curry bourekas and portuguese custard tart was perfect ending for my brunch. Only downside was parking since I had to drive around the place for 15-20 minutes to find a parking spot 😅 Forgot to mention about cappuccino and matcha tea here! Both were great as well 😆

everything i’ve tried here i love but i would especially recommend the arabic breakfast, the french toast and the beef+lamb brisket pita

Google
One of my favorite spots in LA! For lunch, I highly recommend the beef pita – it’s absolutely delicious and hits the spot every time.

Google
Good food, I recommend. I went for brunch, and you ordered at the counter and self seat at either outdoor or indoor areas. Food was delicious, limited brunch options, though; I would have preferred more menu items. Bakery items were great. They were sold out of some. The Biscuit was easily one of the best biscuits I've ever had, but it was on the smaller side. Buon Appetito, Piatto Pulito 😋

Nice little additional space to the larger Saffy’s restaurant next door. The latte I had was delicious and I like that they make their own pastries (the blueberry danish was very tasty) in house as well as their own loaves of bread as you can see in the pictures. Curious to see what else they make since around closing time most of it was gone. Which is always a good sign, but bad for me! The latte I had was good. I wish they had a few more original signature options given the pedigree of the company, but their espresso pulls are good enough to keep coming back for your usual lattes. Minimal counter seating inside but a wide sidewalk patio outside with plenty of shade makes it a good spot to hang out. It’s in good company too with a few other restaurants in the area.

Google
Food: Solid but don’t expect a Saffy’s dinner food. If Saffy’s dinner is a ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ the brunch is 3.7/5. I’m not saying it’s bad, it’s very good but nothing compared to OG Saffy’s Service: No complaints, baristas is supa chill Atmosphere: bring your date here, it’s a vide. Cute and kinda feels like europe ☀️🏖️ Unfortunately, I don’t have a girl or a girlfriend so brought an old friend of mine 🥲

Google
Great spot to sit out and have a morning pastry. It’s outdoor seating only but the area is covered with an awning and lots of plants, to help you feel a bit more secluded from the street. We went at 10am on a Tuesday and we’re able to find paid parking, but you might have to circle a bit later in the day or on the weekend. The coffee is great but the pastries are the real star of the show. They heat up everything for you and you can tell it was made fresh in-house that day. I highly recommend the cardamom bun. It was fluffy and lightly sweet on the inside and had a crunchy sugar outside. The lime bar was very good as well. Overall a great place to come hang out or catch up with a friend. If you’re looking to get work done, I would just caution that you have to be prepared to sit outside next to a decently busy street, so it might be a little distracting. But if you’re still up for it, they do have Wi-Fi. Definitely a somewhere to stop in the next time you’re in the neighborhood!

Google
Absolutely obsessed with their Earl Grey iced latte! Can’t say enough good things about how delicious this is on a hot summer day! Must try if you like black tea.

Yelp
i'm a huge fan of bavel so i knew saffy's wasn't going to disappoint and it didn't, we licked our plates clean! love the casual vibe of the breakfast/brunch/lunch for ordering sit down. saffy's coffee & tea is limited to outdoor seating and a few indoor high top counter seating but the outdoor patio is lovely and there are plenty of tables for your choosing. their indoor dining is limited to dinner service only. we got the arabic breakfast, chicken pita, salmon tartine and 2 drinks to share for 2. the iced latte was probably the weakest link, a little too milky and not as strong as we'd like but the saffron lemonade was a hit. my husband wouldn't stop talking about the toasted challah with clotted cream and honey. neighborhood street parking available so get those parallel parking skills ready!

Yelp
Saffy's is the sister restaurant to Arts District stalwarts Bavel and Bestia. Like Bavel, it serves Middle Eastern cuisine and has a wood-burning oven. Coffee and Tea is their adjacent coffee spot which opens daily at 8 am and serves breakfast/brunch from 9 am Wed-Sun. Finding parking was relatively easy on a weekday morning, but surely would be much more difficult in the evenings and all-day on weekends. This is a residential area filled with apartment buildings. Saffy's building is beautiful and retro. Saffy's offers 5 breakfast items and 4 lunch items, plus a few pastries (sweet and savory) and breads. It's a fast-casual place where you order and pay at the counter and your food is brought to your table. All seating is in their outdoor patio, with a few high-top chairs inside. I went with their most substantial breakfast item, the Arabic Breakfast, which includes their shakshuka, chopped salad, marinated olives, clotted cream with honey, and challah bread. I also ordered a herb lemonade and a boysenberry cheese danish. Everything was delish. The hot dishes are prepared in the restaurant's kitchen, and you are allowed to use the restrooms in the restaurant.

Yelp
One item that has continually remained on my mind since my visit to Saffy's is their challah bread. The bread thought even triumphs over my personal trauma and that says a lot as an adult with innate emo tendencies. The perfect conduit to the challah is their delicious and flavorful shashukha in a great breakfast portion size as well as their honey butter that is part of their equally tasty and wide variety of their Arabic breakfast. Suffice to say, go brave the East Hollywood parking situation (I found a lovely spot right behind the infamous blue Scientology building) and do anything to try their fluffy challah. The Spritz was also light and a good way to start your breakfast per my personal recommendation.

Yelp
First timer. Food was absolutely delicious! We order lamb & beef brisket pita and was sad when it was over. Service was quick and friendly and plenty of seating. Patio was cozy. My only negative is parking can be tricky and having to deal with people who don't like the LAnd.

Yelp
Sasto Foccacia Sandwich ($18) - sopressata, mortadella, coppa, house made ricotta, fermented chilis, lettuce, tomato, onion, oregano vinaigrette Beef Lamb Pita ($19) - tahini, zhoug, omba I stumbled across this place when I was looking for a restroom to use at Nam Coffee & was surprised by how cute the interior was, so I'm happy I got to try this place out! Parking was a little difficult especially since I went on a day that there was street sweeping. The service was extremely fast & they bring out your food to your table. The Sasto is their signature sando!! Although I found it to be slightly oversaturated in the vinaigrette, the flavors made up for it!! There was just enough veggies to make up for how heavy the rest of the sando was, but I wish they wrapped it in parchment paper to make it easier to eat :/ I'd def go back again to try the restaurant next door!

Yelp
Saffy's Coffee & Tea is a cute lil hip corner coffee and pastry shop in East Hollywood. Its next door neighbor is Saffy's restaurant/bar which owned the coffee shop. It's indoor and outdoor seats were very spacious and relaxing. I arrived on a sunny warm Wednesday to grab a drink and checkout this coffee shop. I perused their menu albeit not an extensive list. They have all the basic coffee and tea drink as well as some pastries. Given it's my first time at Saffy's C&T, I decided to get a hot Latte ($7) and a Swedish Cardamom ($6) roll. Both were very satisfying. Latte was good and the SC roll was something out of this world. It's soft, warm and vanilla flavored. Staff were warm, assiduous and professional. Service was outstanding. Prices were highly expensive (excluding the additional 4.0 % health fee). Atmosphere and vibe imbued by positive energy. Collectively, these variables make an good coffee shop. Overall, I had a pleasant order experience and enjoyed my hot drink and pastry. I shall return. And I recommend you try this new coffee shop. Ciao!

Yelp
I love love love Saffy's all the time. Parking a serious drag (esp on street cleaning oy!) but oh well. I am overjoyed with this Wed-Sun brunch they got going on at Saffy's coffee. Lots of outdoor seating on the chill AF patio. NICE. I saw someone post on the internutttz about the new beef lamb pita sandwich and it did not disappoint. Amazing flavor in that perfect pita bread tons of delicious sauces and savory meats filling. We tried the new chicken too but I prefer the beef. Also had a great salad, some pricey bevs and a superb cinnamon muffin thing. They can do no wrong for me with their food offerings!

Yelp
The Sasto sandwich, 10/10 The french toast, 10/10 + all the pastries we tried.. sososo good. Definitely recommend trying! We're looking forward to coming back for dinner.

Yelp
I love Saffys for breakfast. I am never disappointed when I'm here. I love that they're added new menu items such as the French Toast and Foccacia. I have yet to try some other new items but coming here for a solid Arabic breakfast is what keeps me coming back. I love their earl grey latte too! This is one of those fast casual places but it's worth skipping a mimosa brunch. You order first, then get a number and choose a table. Staff is friendly. You sit on the outside of Saffys resto. It's nice to enjoy when the weather is nice. I've come here so many times, and I usually like to try new places all over LA, but this is a go to weekend breakfast spot that I'm happy to be a somewhat regular at!

Yelp
If I had the patience and kindness to bake, I'd like to be the kind of baker who makes thumbprint cookies. Wholesome, with pastel aprons & teacloths. I am not a baker because I hate measuring and have no patience, so I'm glad Saffy's does it for me! These were delicious, and peach is the flavor of the season for me for sure. This received rave reviews from everyone, and I also snuck in a chocolate cookie with walnuts that was perfectly chewy (just the way I love it!). Will be back for more!

Yelp
My second time coming here and I can't resist their savory offerings. I had the ham & cheese biscuit, and it's the best biscuit I've ever had. It wasn't dense or dry, very buttery with a soft crumble. The quality of ham & cheese were top notch as well as the addicting mustard grain sauce. Their spinach & feta boureka was also amazing. Something as simple as black sesame seeds on top have really added complexity in texture & toasted notes with the buttery & flakiness of the dough. The staff is super laid back and it's a nice, quaint spot to unwind or do some work.

Yelp
Let me tell you something about Arabic Breakfast. This is my hands down favorite breakfast in all of Los Angeles. Ooof that's a bold statement but if you have similar taste buds like mine (which I will detail below) then you have to try Saffy's Arabic Breakfast. I love how simple this place is. Amazing quality of food full of fantastic culinary flavors without the frills of something more fancy? It's nested right next to Saffy's but they utilize their outdoor dining area for patrons. The tables are super cute and makes a perfect vessel to carry all of the delicious morsels. This place is more catered to lighter bites so perfect if you want to have a pastry and coffee to chat with a friend. But. But. You can NOT leave here without sharing their Arabic Breakfast. And their French toast is ridiculous. The breakfast is a spread with shakshuka as the main and ornamented with a punchy salad, olives, and damn good sesame challah with clotted cream/honey. I inhaled the clotted cream on the challah. And yes I scraped it clean hahaha. It's a great spread for 2 and will leave you feeling light and satisfied. It's also great if you're vegetarian (who eats eggs). The shakshuka is more on the curry side but it is cooked very well. Their pastries change out pretty often and if you do see something just get it. I keep on wanting more and can't wait for the next sunny morning for brunch at Saffy's.

Yelp
TLDR = park and walk over, super hard to find parking. Great tea and coffee, pricey but worth. Exterior = 4/5 Located along a street, you can't miss it if you drive by. It's attached to the larger restaurant, which opens up later in the day after the coffee shop closes. There is seating outside which is nice for sipping your drink while enjoying some air. Parking is difficult, even locating some in the neighborhoods near by can be challenging. I normally walk over to avoid any parking issues. Interior = 4/5 High ceiling and warm atmosphere greet you as you walk in. There are some counter seating but only for like individuals, wouldn't recommend seating inside if you are a bigger party. There is just enough room to walk in, order and stand to the side. They have breads decorating the side wall next to the cashier which you are able to buy if they haven't already run out. Also pastries and snacks are available to purchase and enjoy with your coffee/tea. Service = 5/5 I am a regular now and my order is basically memorized which I appreciate. Everyone that has helped me is super friendly and approachable. Order = 5/5 I usually get one of two things because I feel they hit my moods perfectly. If I want coffee I get the iced vanilla latte, but if I'm in the mood for tea I get the iced earl grey latte (which has been like 99% of the time). The vanilla latte is good and hits the spot, but let me talk about the early grey. They mix a combo of vanilla, winter melon sugar, and oat milk with the early grey tea. It's pre made so they just pour it into your cup. So satisfying. I have been trying to find some winter melon sugar to mimic this at home (Saffys makes it in house) and to no avail. Which I don't mind so I get to come back here and drink more though it can add up in price (still worth). Overall = 4/5 Nice spot for a caffeine pick me up any time of the day. Better to walk than try to find parking. Definitely get the early grey if you want to get hooked. Hint = walk.

Yelp
I went a first time a few week ago and it was good. I went again today for a drip coffee and it was cold. A coffee shop that serves cold coffee is a bad coffee shop.

Yelp
The food here wasn't as mind blowing as the dinner food next door, but overall, still a good experience. Ambiance is casual. You order at the counter and sit wherever you want on Saffy's patio. Service was excellent, when a waiter overheard us saying we needed a knife and that there were none in the coffee shop, he promptly came over to hand us one. The chai latte was possibly the best chai latte I've ever had, but the coffee was too acidic in my opinion. We shared an Arabic breakfast, toffee/coconut cookie (excellent!), and potato curry boreka. They do run out of menu items, and options are limited, so if you come later, know that it might be slim pickings. Also, know that they stop serving the Arabic breakfast at 1 if that's what you are looking to order. In my opinion, the Arabic breakfast was pretty good, and came at a fair price point, but the olives on the side had a bit of a funky taste to them.
google avatar

Yelp
On yelp, Saffy has two different locations -- one for coffee and tea and one for dinner. They share the same patio (and probably kitchen). The coffee and tea location sells incredible pastries and on weekends they have brunch. Drinks - the earl grey latte is made with this incredible syrup. Highly recommend the earl grey latte if you're looking to treat yourself. We also got some dirty chai lattes and it was good balance of spice, sweet and milk. Would definitely order both of these drinks again. Food - We split two orders of the Arabic breakfasts with a few add on including biscuit w/jam & butter and a cardamom twist. The pastries were delightful - they were eaten so fast that I didn't have a chance to take a photo. Everything in the breakfast was enjoyable: eggs and potatoes in the Shakshuka were perfectly cooked, the salad paired well with the whole meal, and last but not least...there was an avocado honey and clotted cream spread that we lathered all over the bread (with sesame crust). Overall I would definitely return for coffee and / or food. We're very curious what Saffy's dinner tastes like now...to be continued...

Yelp
This is the coffee shop next door to Saffy's, a Michelin recognized Middle Eastern restaurant, brought to you by the folks behind Bestia and Bavel. The space is small, but has a good amount of indoor/outdoor seating. Decor is minimal; it has a super clean, modern vibe. My husband and I stopped in for coffee and a pastry. Unfortunately, the bakery case was completely empty at 1pm on a Sunday. They normally have house made breads and various cakes/cookies/pastries, so definitely get here earlier if you want to try them. My Oat Milk Latte was good, albeit on the watery side. My husband got a tea, which he enjoyed. Definitely worth a stop if you are in the area (or waiting in line for Found Oyster across the street, like we were).

Yelp
This place need to calm down a bit. Shakshuka is mid at best. Oh and don't bother asking for your egg to not be practically raw - it's apparently the way the chef likes it. So the place is not about you but you having the honor to eat a sh&$ty shakshuka. And the service matches the culinary arrogance. Oh and good luck with parking.

Yelp
Good pastries, good coffee, and just a good hang. Street parking in the neighborhood so pay attention to the signs. The thumb print cookie was moist, short bread, with a small dollop or a nice fruit jam. Get it!

Yelp
Very close to my location!!! I love this place. The ambiance was cozy and inviting, making it a perfect spot to relax. The staff was friendly and sweet, providing excellent service. It's definitely become one of my favorite go-to spots for enjoying my morning and a Highly recommend their arabic breakfast!!! This has been added to my fav breakfast list the minute i got to try their eggs!!! Love it!!!

Yelp
Used to live around the corner, now I make the 30 min drive to come back because no other café measures up imo. The food is superb for a cafe, they have an outdoor patio, they play good music, and the people that work there are so friendly, I miss seeing their faces every day! The drinks are comparable to other places, plus there are some specialty ones like the arnold palmer that I enjoy.
google avatar

Benjamin S.

Yelp
Was excited to try Saffy's Coffee and Tea this morning...and was not disappointed. Coffee drinks were good (not burnt), and Borekas (not pictured) were very tasty. Yogurt - which could be monotonous by itself - was elevated by the amazing honey and pine nuts. I really liked the challah french toast - in fact I think it is exceptional - but was put off by the price and the portion. It was $15 for one measly slice (when an entire delicious challah bread to go is literally the same price.). Either keep it $15 for two slices or reduce price for one IMHO. Looking forward to them adding new items to the menu. The aforementioned challah bread is amazing btw. Ruined me for all other challah breads!

Yelp
The lamb and beef brisket wrap is magical - came here for lunch to get something better than the hospital cafeteria nearby. This sandwich has made my day.

Yelp
Have been going to this spot for a while now and love it! The area is coming up and Saffy's is killing it. Love seeing Karla & Lydia in the morning (they always remember what we want) and suggest new pastries when they rotate. (Pastries are DELISH, some of the best I've had in LA). Try the earl grey tea latte if ya want something sweet & different! Super yummy. There's also a nice dog friendly patio!

Yelp
It's such a cute little coffe shop adjacent to the wonderful Saffys restaurant. Parking can be alittle hard but on the weekdays should be easy finding one on the streets. I wish they had a bigger food menu during the weekdays. They only serve their real menu breakfast items on the weekend. They do have a few bakery good that can be purchased, we tried the biscuit breakfast sandwhich was alittle too crumbly for my taste and I ordered challah bread to go. We were able to purchase a half a loaf which is a lot already. It was my first time trying challah bread and it's really soft and alittle sweet. It was so good.

Tsolmon B.

Yelp
Saffy's is the new cool kid on the block. So I decided to check out the coffee shop and let's just say I was speechless when I saw how they handled bakery items and customer's concerns! It was a Saturday morning and was little busy and I'm soooo glad that I had the opportunity to observe while waited in line. I don't believe in having your hair down in any service industry, especially in food service. The girl had her hair down and it passed her shoulders. In my opinion, if the hair is long enough to be in a ponytail then it should be up. But that's not the offensive part. She wiped countertops with a damp dishrag and afterwards grabbed cookies with her bare hands to plate. Yes...you read it right. She didn't wash her hands, didn't use food grade gloves, didn't use parchment papers or tongs. Nope, she grabbed these bakery items with bare hands to plate after touching multiple surfaces and items and it happened with several different times. Like I said it was a busy Saturday morning but it's not an excuse to disregard safe food handling. And when I brought it up to the attention of the cashier, she gave me an attitude and said "Miss, we wash our hands." Uuummmmm....oh ok....just because she washed her hands at the beginning of shift that doesn't mean it stays clean! Not coming back and def wouldn't recommend.
google avatar

Marshall S.

Yelp
Great small space, some of the best coffee in the area, and extremely quick and friendly! Love stoping by here for a quick caffeine jolt.

Benjamin H.

Yelp
The coffee is good but the pastries cannot be beat. They rotate seasonally, so I make sure to get my favorite every single time it's in the case: the boysenberry cheese danish. Baristas are the best-- super down to talk about coffee, the offerings on the menu, or literally anything. Plenty of shaded, outdoor seating gives it a casual, European cafe energy. This is a place where I love to bring people on networking coffees because they will, without fail, say "this place is great! I can't believe I haven't heard about it." Might be hard to get a reservation at the actual buzzy restaurant, but grab a coffee and a pastry at this spot and you'll still feel like part of the "it" crowd.
google avatar

Richelle N.

Yelp
I ordered their buttermilk biscuit with butter and jam and wow! The biscuit was so flakey and delicious. The jam was the perfect sweet but tart to go with the savory biscuit. I also got a hot chocolate and it was also delicious. The server was super friendly. It is a cute little coffee shop with indoor and our door seating. I overheard the server say they serve breakfast and I'm sure it would be delicious!
google avatar

Ritchie S.

Yelp
Simple but oh so delicious. Try their decaf latte and yogurt dish so so good! Service is fast and friendly, and the ambiance is bright and airy :)

L T.

Yelp
Racist server, wears a bandana. She makes comments under her breath and rolls her eyes at certain people and spends extra time helping others. Wow, I asked for a dirty table to be wiped down. What an inconvenience. Food isn't that great for this kind of treatment. Go elsewhere. WTH.

Crystal H.

Yelp
I love the potato curry bourekas in the morning for breakfast. They also have a delicious yogurt with granola and honey.
