"Saffy’s in East Hollywood can be a tricky reservation on the weekends, but you can always opt for brunch next door. The East Hollywood kebab house has a casual café that, starting at 9am, offers a $24 Arabic breakfast set. The spread comes with a skillet of shakshuka and toasted challah with clotted cream, or you can keep things simpler with housemade yogurt sweetened with honey and a few feta-stuffed bourekas with coffee. Show up after 11am, and Saffy’s Coffee & Tea does heartier stuff, too, like warm hummus and lamb brisket pitas." - brant cox, sylvio martins, cathy park
"Starting at 8am daily, Saffy’s Coffee and Tea serves a full Arabic breakfast spread. And even if you just spent all night at the studio, it’s the perfect place to nestle in for a sunny, mellow morning. You’ll get spicy shakshuka, brioche challah bread, clotted cream with honey, marinated olives, and a chopped salad for $24. And if you’re here with friends and looking to round out your spread, you can order some challah french toast or buttermilk biscuits with housemade jam. Just keep in mind that brunch ends at 3pm and all of the seating is outside on their sidewalk patio." - nikko duren
"A sexy dinner with the skewer-slingers at Saffy's is fun, but you should also make your way to their casual bakery and cafe next door for breakfast. On weekends, Saffy’s Coffee and Tea serves a full Arabic breakfast spread and it’s more than worth getting out of bed at a reasonable time to go eat. You’ll get spicy shakshuka, brioche challah, clotted cream with honey, marinated olives, and a chopped salad for $24. They’ve also got buttermilk biscuits with housemade jam, potato curry bourekas, and other flaky pastries you can add on to your feast. Just keep in mind that brunch ends at 3pm and all of the seating is outside on their sidewalk patio, so the likelihood of a cute dog spotting is quite high." - Nikko Duren
"On Saturdays and Sundays starting at 9 a.m., Saffy’s Coffee & Tea serves chefs Ori Menashe and Genevieve Gergis’s take on an Arabic breakfast priced at $24, a full spread that includes shakshuka (poached eggs, potatoes, spicy tomato, ginger, cumin, Fresno chile, cilantro), a chopped salad (cherry tomato, cucumber, pickled celery, dry mint, oregano, breadcrumbs), marinated olives, clotted cream with avocado honey, and grilled challah bread." - Cathy Chaplin
"I visited the coffee shop they opened next door on July 14 at 4845 Fountain Avenue; it offers a selection of whole loaves of bread, pastries, cookies, tea, and coffee brewed with beans from Silver Lake–based Cafecito Organico and served as cortados, lattes, and cold brew. A rotating selection of Menashe’s breads includes whole wheat challah and sourdough buckwheat sesame, while Gergis’s pastries rotate daily and might include blueberry coffee cake with streusel topping, boysenberry cheese danishes, and bourekas. Other options include yogurt with Lebanese pine nuts, Bill’s Bees honey, and nigella seeds, and buttermilk biscuits that can be topped with cultured salted butter and housemade jam or with ham, cheese, and mustard aioli. They also sell frozen five-packs of fluffy Bavel pitas to-go for $10; seating is limited to a handful of outdoor tables and eight counter seats inside, and the cafe is open Wednesday through Sunday from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m., with seven-day service planned." - Eater
