NYC’s New Restaurant Openings - New York - The Infatuation

"This Middle Eastern grocer has been in New York for over 100 years, starting out in Manhattan before moving to Atlantic Avenue in the 1940s. After opening an outpost in Industry City, the grocer is back on the island with a stall in Chelsea’s Market 57, where you can purchase all sorts of dips and prepared takeaway classics, like shawarma and moussaka." - Will Hartman, Willa Moore

Historic Middle Eastern Grocer Sahadi’s Opens in Manhattan This Month - Eater NY

"The historic Middle Eastern market is opening a restaurant and bar, not another grocery store, on November 27, inside Market 57, the food hall run by the James Beard Foundation that opened earlier this year. The restaurant will have dine-in seating and bar service with shawarma saj wraps and toshka, a Lebanese flatbread filled with cheese." - Luke Fortney

Historic Sahadi’s Is Returning to Manhattan — At Pier57 | Eater NY

"I've followed Sahadi’s long history: it first opened in Manhattan in 1895 before relocating to its Brooklyn Heights headquarters and has become an iconic grocer specializing in Middle Eastern ingredients. Now, nearly 130 years later, the team is returning to Manhattan with a new location inside Market57, the James Beard food hall at Pier 57, which is reportedly going to include a sit-down spot; Sahadi’s also operates a sibling outpost in Industry City that opened in 2019." - Emma Orlow

I was the only customer at the counter and got handed a meat quesadilla despite being vegetarian. I came back to ask about it, and the “be back in 15 minutes” sign was up. That’s no big deal (I used to do that at work so I understand), but when I came back, a woman was wondering where her order was. The employee said the one I had was the other woman’s meal. How did this employee hand the wrong meal to the person she just took an order from? Why did the employees put up a be right back sign if there was still a ticket open? There were at least two employees so there wasn’t any communication about who was watching the counter. My food was okay once they made it. I reached out by email and received two chatgpt replies (I asked it to write an apology for this and it gave me an almost word-for-word copy). I would choose anywhere else in this food court.

I really love the original Sahadi’s in Brooklyn, but this was super disappointing. I wouldn’t get the shrimp wrap again — it’s really wet, not very flavorful and pretty small for $18. My friend got the chicken wrap and said it’s better, but you’re probably better off going somewhere else.

Had the opportunity to attend an event Sahadis cohosted with a Lebanese Wine Company, Chateau Ksara. Excellent & courteous service - kudos to the staff Ashley, Evan, Michael, etc! They have a happy hour on their wines and beers from 4-6PM, the perfect accompaniment to all of their delicious snacks. Enjoy summer and autumn on the outdoor seating at Pier 57!

Long waits. (Although not a lot of customers)15 minutes to make a wrap? No beef left? Ok. Chicken? Sorry no chicken. (Then there was beef afterall). Unappealing and not fresh food. Friendly but completely clueless staff.

Anne Hathaway did not spit in my food.

I liked the lightly tart nature of this "Back Home" Gose. I might have to take a trip out to the original Sahadi's to get regular grocery prices on a pack! Or I can look up if other stores sell it.

I got the shrimp wrap and thought it was just ok. I had a few other snacks at other places in this food hall (tacos, dosa, etc) that were very flavorful with lots spices, so it this wrap tasted very bland in comparison. Even the harissa sauce I did not find it very flavorful.
