As a first-time guest, I am unsure where to start. One star is for the quality decor, which beautifully maintains the integrity of history--very cool. However, the fake plants hanging from the ceiling need to be replaced with real ones, as they appear tacky.
The other star is for the chicken meal, which was roasted to perfection and very tasty. Unfortunately, I cannot award any additional stars due to the terrible customer service and the wine selection process. Apparently, there is a sommelier, but the manager explained that they have been undergoing some wine changes for the past three months, rendering the menu largely irrelevant. We chose ten different bottles of wine, and none were available.
While our server was kind, he stated that his hands were tied and he had no control over the menu. When we asked to see the manager, we waited about 20 minutes for him to arrive. He mentioned he hoped our server would resolve the issue, but the server was unaware of the specifics. All we wanted to convey was that the manager should cross off all unavailable wines to avoid wasting our time.
Ultimately, we did not want to spend almost $90 on a bottle of wine we didn't even love. At the end of our meal, the manager returned and stated that, politically speaking, he had no authority to improve the situation due to red tape with the restaurant's owners. He expressed his difficulty in making improvements.
Instead of bringing out a dessert--which we did not need--he should have provided us with a couple of available wine choices and offered a discount off our bill. While the food was spectacular, I would not return, as it seems the owners of Saint Anne's do not truly understand the essence of food and beverage service.
