"A patisserie known for refined cakes and pastries—the reviewer selected a raspberry and dark chocolate cake as a birthday dessert, pairing it successfully with an Alsatian sparkling rosé." - Henna Bakshi
"With nearly 20 flavors, St. Germain makes some of the city’s best macarons and has one of the largest selections. We like visiting their spacious venue in the Interlock, so we can stare at their colorful assortment of the French sandwich cookies until we fall into a daydream about our last trip to Paris. The beautiful French cafe is also a nice place to work—and to work your way through the menu. Start with coffee and breakfast quiches then move on to lunch sandwiches. And know you can retreat back to the counter whenever you need a macaron to rinse away the distaste of that all-company email." - nina reeder, juli horsford
"Named for the Parisian neighborhood where you’re most likely to find a sweets shop on every corner, this Old Fourth Ward favorite fuses the best of French patisserie with Southern hospitality courtesy of husband-and-wife team Heather and Mathieu Jourdan-Gassin. In addition to jewel box-worthy tarts and impeccable patisserie, the bakery serves perfectly flaky croissants that are sure to please the pickiest French mother-in-law. Be sure to try the macarons in flavors like raspberry violette and mango mimosa. You can also order a full cake in advance that serves six to eight people." - Sarah Bisacca
"This French bakery chain has multiple locations, but the one in the Interlock is our favorite since it's roomy, never crowded, and you can spend the whole day working on one of their Parisian cafe tables. St. Germain’s display cases are full of frilly pastries like the lemon bubble-cube cake or the multi-layered chocolate opera cake. They’re so pretty, in fact, that we almost feel bad plunging our fork into it for our first bite. Almost. But the real draw here is the macarons, with more than 20 flavors ranging from lavender to pistachio—you won’t find a bigger selection anywhere else in the city." - juli horsford
"You can find this fun wine bar inside a small house on St. Claude in the Bywater. They have a great selection of natural wines and a reservations-only, 10-course tasting menu that’s full of surprising dishes in a dining room reminiscent of a friend’s cozy apartment. The menu is always rotating, but think fermenting, braising, smoking, poaching—anything that can be done to get the most out of seasonal, local produce (a recent favorite featured prawns served with fermented tomato). If you can’t make reservations and the weather’s nice, stop by for some wine on the first-come, first-served garden patio." - Chelsea Brasted
